Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Review - It's Flarking Good | MP1st

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Review - It's Flarking Good: Eidos-Montreal's single-player driven Marvel game just might be the surprise hit of the year.

Luc20929d ago

My copy arrived a few days early and I agree it's a good game. The quality mode needs to be improved as the frame rate isn't good but the performance mode is fine.

LordoftheCritics929d ago (Edited 929d ago )

Buying it.

If Skill Up says its good, its GOOD.

But honestly I knew it was gonna be good since the last few trailers. Im glad its getting good reviews eveywhere,

victorMaje929d ago

I wasn’t planning on getting it, but I trust Skill Up & he strongly recommends it so I’m giving it a chance, let’s hope it’s good.

Flewid638929d ago

Looks smooth as butter on PC & next gen consoles with that 60fps.

XbladeTeddy929d ago

Looks good, glad they included DLSS with ray tracing, means my 3060Ti should be enough to run ray tracing in all its glory. Will wait on benchmarks though.

XbladeTeddy929d ago

What's with the downvotes? It's the truth my card with need DLSS to run ray tracing, it's not as powerful as a 3070 or 3080 like the official specs recommend for quality RT.

Nitrowolf2929d ago

I’m not even sure I own the same card just because it was available

Andrew336929d ago

Probably jealous people who don't have a 30 series card.

XbladeTeddy929d ago (Edited 929d ago )

lol, they shouldn't be jealous as I had to pay £600 for it from an online store, a 100% markup on the RRP almost. And for £600 it's not a good deal for this but it's the times we live in for now.

929d ago
XbladeTeddy928d ago

@Darth Marvin: I don't play at 4k I play at 1440p, this is a 1440p card. Anyway, the point is ray tracing without DLSS is hard work for any card so i was happy they included DLSS. I could improve performance by turning off RT and other settings but I was showing I was happy I could possibly play it with every setting maxed out thanks to DLSS being included.

Kurt Russell928d ago

3060ti for me as well. And you're correct, I haven't played a game with RTX that hasn't required DLSS.

XbladeTeddy928d ago

@Kurt: Far Cry had ray tracing without DLSS and it showed. They limited it to low quality and minor implementation. Must have been a concession they had to make because the game was sponsored by AMD.

BLAKHOODe929d ago

You can only play as Star-Lord, tho.. that would lower the score big-time for me. And no co-op. The rest of the Guardians are just there for support.

porkChop929d ago

They've already explained why you only play as Star-Lord.

LordoftheCritics928d ago (Edited 928d ago )

So Uncharted, God Of War, and many other games need their score lowered as well.

The game is built around this, one lead and companions. Mass Effect style.
Same reason why we play as Master Chief and not Cortana.

Nothing to hate here.

FernDiggidy929d ago

hmm...I dunno. I'm not sold on the combat

badz149928d ago

aside from the jetboots, Starlord movements are like Lara Croft

bangoskank929d ago

Love when the underdog does well. Pre-ordered on PC because it looked promising. Looking forward to playing.

badz149928d ago

Eidos and Square Enix are hardly what you can call as "the underdog"

ShadowWolf712928d ago (Edited 928d ago )

Man this game was releasing with the deck stacked against it, and the public projecting their dislike for the Avengers game onto it. It IS a bit of an underdog.

bangoskank928d ago (Edited 928d ago )

Exactly what shadowwolf said. That game is still getting hate because people cannot accept when they're wrong.

It amazes me how epic can give out free games like that. While Sony tied theres to a subscription

raWfodog128d ago

Don't forget that it was on Game Pass as well. Xbox didn't give it away for free either.

blackblades128d ago

I didnt forget about them, at least at one point Xbox gold gave out games that you keep even if you wasnt sub. I don't even own a will ever own one im just saying. I'm guessing the disagrees came from the losers that got mad I didn't mention MS Xbox.

Inverno128d ago

Part of the reason why they blowing through cash right now. I have over 300 games I believe, incredibly stupid on their part but who am I to stop them, it's their money after all. It's all incentive to spend money on their store but why spend money when you can wait for them to give the game you most likely want for free?

Eonjay128d ago (Edited 128d ago )

Epic is competing with Valve (who is selling this game for $59.99 on its platform). So don't you mean it amazing you how Epic can give it out for free (spoilers: they can't 'give it away for free'... Epic has to pay Eidos) while Valve is charging full price on its platform? This has nothing to do with Sony...

mastershredder128d ago

The game is totally a rush-to-market with some discount bling topping. It is quite worthy of a pass at free.

Fishy Fingers128d ago

Ok grumpy, I actually thought it was pretty fun.

INMATEofARKHAM127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

Completely agree! I'll freely admit it wasn't a game the year contender but it was solid, had a good story with a good amount if humor. It's an easy pick up at free. Hell, it was an easy pickup at the 15 or do dollars a pair last year at this time for it.

phoenixwing127d ago

Agreed. It's a good deal and the game was good at full price imo. Shredder if you don't like epics launcher just say so but don't deride a fun game over it. I don't like epics launcher so I haven't added any of their free games no matter how much they want to bribe me.

raWfodog127d ago

I waited to buy this when it was $20 but it was a very good game IMO. I don't ever pay full prices for any game but I believe that the quality and gameplay of this game was worthy of a full price purchase for many.

il-JumperMT127d ago

its one of the best marvel games. too bad avengers killed it

Psychonaut85127d ago

This game really didn’t get the sales it deserved.

The best PS5 single player games have incredible cinematic storytelling, impressive combat, or in Astro's case, charming platforming.

Some pretty dope indies could've made this list to.

gold_drake367d ago

the messenger is rly good ha.

repsahj368d ago

Awesome list! I agree 100%.

rippermcrip367d ago

Returnal honorable mention reason is dumb. It is a single player game with optional coop. Just like Elden Ring which is in the list.

VersusDMC367d ago

Coop wasn't even available till after a year after launch...by that reasoning ghost of tsushima(legends) wouldn't count?

jznrpg367d ago

Returnal is so fun solo I won’t ever try the co-op. It would be too easy imo

Abear21367d ago (Edited 367d ago )

Ratchet and Clank and Horizon are my picks. Miles and GoW are gathering virtual dust on the SSD. Good games just not as addicting as those imo. Returnal is best if you’re into that challenge.

DivineHand125367d ago

No uncharted :( I had a blast playing the legacy of thieves collection at 120 fps.

The Guardians Of The Galaxy Game Deserved Better

In a world where superhero team-up games are clearly harder to do than some studios think they are, Guardians of the Galaxy nailed it.

Totally

This game was more respectful the comic books than the James Gunn films, it's kind of what I wanted from them but didn't get. It's packed full of lore and references, creating their own thing while still being respectful the source material.

Mantis alone was fantastic and they even gave her the mantis like blades

porkChop368d ago

I loved it. The whole mission with Mantis on Lamentis was hilarious because of all her lines. They really nailed the characters in that game. Drax had me dying with all his Dog Report Item stuff.

VersusDMC368d ago

The gameplay was the issue for me. So mid. Halfway through i just wanted it to play like a telltale game so i could get to the rest of the story faster.

porkChop368d ago

Yeah that was my only gripe. The combat could have had more depth and generally been more interesting.

Sgt_Slaughter368d ago

The game most likely suffered due to Avengers because Eidos-Montréal did additional work on the game in addition to Crystal Dynamics

senorfartcushion368d ago

Most of the time being respectful of comic books is worse for the adaptation.

The Zack Snyder films were more respectful to the comic Books - both in terms of characterisation and tone - but the world went with the Marvel movies, which basically took the superhero element out of their stories in favour of reflecting the lives of soldiers.

CrimsonWing69368d ago

It was my pick for GotY that year.

Such a fantastic game and well written. I feel it did more Justice to the Adam Warlock character than this new movie.

It’s annoying it didn’t sell well… errr well enough by Square Enix’s standards.

Leeroyw368d ago

It was a great single player game filled with wonderful lore and nice touches. Journalists didn't cover it much either so I don't know what this person is on about.

0hMyGandhi368d ago

the article is great, but the headline is super misleading. The author is just saying that the game deserved far more recognition and praise than it actually did.

Moegooner368d ago

It suffered from various issues, including crashes and glitches. So there's that

chrisx368d ago (Edited 368d ago )

True that. I remember seeing mantis in the beginning of the game in my ship just standing in a corner like a statue. Long before you get to meet her in game. It was fun but damn it was a glitch fest haha

Daeloki368d ago

Not sure Midnight Suns deserves that shoutout, I barely made it past the first act before it grew too stale and repetitive to continue and there was nothing more to explore/discover in the base... Might pick it back up again after a break but overall pretty disappointed.

Guardians of the Galaxy tho, that one was a masterpiece. Admittedly I was super sceptical when it was revealed, fortunately a friend then bought it and convinced me it was worth it.

gold_drake368d ago

i liked it alot actually, made me laugh alot too haha.
