Deathloop Devs Says Level of Ambition Not Possible if Not for Next-Gen, PS5 a “Breath of Fresh Air”

It seems that moving on to next-gen is proving to be very beneficial for Deathloop developers, Arkane Studio as they discuss PS5 development, along with revealing new details around their upcoming game.

Glad they love the PS5. A shame it will probably be the last time they get to work on it.

seanpitt231462d ago

There is no probably it will be the last time they work on a PlayStation console.. it’s sad but Microsoft had to do something and they bought Bethesda to keep the competition strong…

Magog1462d ago

Not if the devs making the statement leave for another studio or there is DLC.

1461d ago
Eonjay1461d ago

They aren't being competitive. They are just removing games off of one platform to give the appearance that they have more games when the games were always coming to Xbox in the first place.

Seraphim1461d ago

@Krog there's a difference between a 3rd party wanting to put work on multiple platforms, a single platform or being paid for an exclusivity deal or even a publishing deal for a specific title compared to simply buying up 3rd party devs. And tbh we simply don't know what games Sony is paying for, do we. Let's not forget MS started that trend with the 360 because they lacked the development houses to create new IPs and games.

You mention Street Fighter V. yeah, so what? Look at all the games throughout history that have been on X console and switched from one platform to another. Should SFV have been multi-plat? Yeah, probably but that's not a choice us gamers get to make. That's on the developer/publisher. There have been an abundance of moves over the decades but the separating factor is that these publishers/developers chose to make the move for whatever reason/s. MS basically took that away from every developer under the Zenimax label. It's been evident ever since xboxs inception that MS doesn't want to invest in building their own infrastructure to support xbox. Instead they work like the US Government, just throw endless money at the problem. The Zenimax deal wouldn't have even been something the XB division needed to even think about if they would have groomed talent and formed new studios in their earlier years. Sony didn't build these juggernaut studios overnight. Some were in house studios they created while others like 99.9% of their recent acquisitions over the past decade or two have come from studios who have exclusively, or almost exclusively with Sony and PS games. Sony aren't going out trying to buy EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Capcom, Square-Enix, Bandai Namco, NIS, Atlus/Sega, or even Zenimax. Sony would receive the same backlash had they bought any of these major players. 2 cents

TriniOutsider1461d ago

I would rather MS got Zenimax than Amazon or Tencent. As those two were rumored into purchasing Zenimax.

CrimsonIdol1461d ago (Edited 1461d ago )

"doesn't want to invest"
but also:
"throw endless money at the problem."
...what do you call throwing money at a problem to solve it? Is that not investing? Or do you think they're doing it for fun like with a stripper or something?

KillBill1461d ago

@Eonjay - obviously the fact Sony was interested in making Starfield an exclusive and were supposedly in line to also acquisition Bethesda the idea the game were going to be on "Xbox" anyways was never a guarantee.

DJStotty1461d ago

@Eonjay

"They are just removing games off of one platform to give the appearance that they have more games when the games were always coming to Xbox in the first place."

How do you know this? no-one knows this yet. Did they pull Minecraft support when they bought Mojang?

As of today, the only game we know about is Starfield, you can bet your bottom dollar Elder scrolls and Fallout will still be on Playstation.

Exclusives are a love/hate relationship for sure.

excaliburps1461d ago

Yep. This probably the last time they'll mention something good for the competition too.

Ninver1461d ago

They're just trying to win over ps owners. They know there's a strong chance the game won't sell due to ps owners being unhappy with the acquisition.

darthv721461d ago

you do realize that working on the PS5 is akin to working on the Series... right? So whatever they learn from this game they carry with them and improve on with the power of X.

1461d ago
waverider1461d ago

Yes and no. it depends if they are using the combo I/o-SSD of the PS5 or not. The consoles are similar, but not the same.

ABizzel11461d ago

That's not exactly true, the core configurations are very similar since both are AMD based consoles with 16GB of RAM, and SSDs. But the APIs, dev tools, and intricacies of the two are very different.

Neonridr1461d ago

@creating - the controller no, the I/O you can adjust. I'm still waiting to be blown away with the "3D Audio"

FPS_D3TH1461d ago

Until you factor in that dog shit series S

Just like how Insomniac made a great exclusive for Xbox One and now Sony owns them and will get any follow up on that sequel. I think exclusives are anti consumer honestly. I get how capitalism works and how ppl have to get the edge on each other but ultimately the consumer loses by having less choice, less freedom etc. If a company grows its studios, sure, they get the fruits of those labors but at some point it becomes bad for most gamers.

In MS' defense, they were lacking in 1st party so I get the need to fill that void and keep the xbox brand relevant/competitive but to me I feel rather than fixating on exclusives, they should fixate on better products and services... have a range of consoles with different power levels vs cost, things like gamepass/XCloud services are far more important imo. then you work out deals with studios and leverage advantages that way. 1st party will always be first party, but all these timed exclusives for money, proprietary DLC etc...its just lame at this point.

KillBill1461d ago

Nothing in the article stated they love the PS5. It all talks about preferring next gen because it allows them to do more than the limitations of last gen presented.

Anything ps5 is a breathe of pure air. Let’s be honest, Microsoft games have a feel to them and that feel is square, like brutalist architecture. I’m not a fanboy, but everything Microsoft influences or touches feels robotic. “Be like Sony, be like air” - “bloodymeatballz” tm

CosmicTurtle1461d ago

What do you have against brutalist architecture and robots?

Zeref1461d ago

Wtf are you on about lol

UncertainCategory1461d ago

"I'm not a fanboy"

"Anything PS5 is a breathe of pure air"

Hmm...

bloodymeatballz1461d ago

Lol I have an Xbox and play it just as much as PlayStation. It’s straight up facts even in gears of war. Their prized 3rd person shooter is like slamming bologna into a brick wall propelled by a reversed vacuum cleaner. It’s camera only emphasized this blockiness. Slam by onyx rings in my head every time I play it. But it’s a weird al yankovich rendition ~ ham… duh du-duh- let the beefy patties uh-erm ham”. Look mayb that was a bad example but you understand my point… I hope

brewin1461d ago

Itll be interesting to see how PS fans feel about this one upon release. You have a brand new PS5 Exclusive IP, but it happens to be the first Microsoft-owned Bethesda title released. By buying the game, you are directly supporting Microsoft. I dont see how anyone who owns a PS5 can pass up this title though, regardless of whose pockets your lining by purchasing it. Ill be buying it day 1 on my PS5 then playing it again with my GP sub next year on my Series X.

JEECE1461d ago

It looks really good, but Dishonored 2 didn't exactly set the world on fire. My guess is that a lot of Playstation 5 owners aren't even aware of this game yet.

CosmicTurtle1461d ago

It’s a shame, Dishonored Is stunning.

JEECE1461d ago

@CosmicTurtle

The first one was one of my favorite new IP from the PS3 generation.

ocelot071461d ago

If it's a good game I'll buy it it's as simple as that tbh not to fussed who owns it.

CosmicTurtle1461d ago

Grow up. You’re buying a game. Enjoy the game. You are rewarding a good developer. People pay for the product. If MS make money off this it can street the direction of the kinds of games released in future. MS was rightly criticised for not having enough high quality titles last Gen. They seem to want to address that. I have some issues with buying a large publisher, but it is solid business sense from MS’s perspective as stated elsewhere.

looks pretty cool. eager to get my hands on this one. lots of good stuff coming out soon all around.

Highrevz1461d ago

Working on next gen compared to last gen is a breath of fresh air. There’s no mention of anything interesting about the PS5 or it’s controller.

brewin1461d ago

Yeah, I think both consoles are so close it shouldnt matter anymore. The PS5 has a couple of features that the Xbox doesnt have, like the gamer card system, the touch pad, and mic built into the controller, etc. Cool little touches but wont be enough to differentiate the consoles from each other. Im sure Deathloop will look just as good, if not better, once it releases on Gamepass next year.

buffig1461d ago

The haptics and audio ARE enough to differentiate the platform. Many reviews for several games have called out the fact that games have very similar performance but if you're going to choose, choose PlayStation. RE Village makes excellent use of Sony's 3D audio tech and numerous outlets stressed that it added enough to the experience to warrant recommending it for PS over Xbox
