The xbox one sold 2 mllions in 18 days in only 13 markets at 499 in 2013. Microsoft sold 3 millions consoles in 39 days at 499 until the end of december. There many ways to spin numbers. But the launch of both Series S and X wasnt better in any point. They reach a couple of weeks ago the 4 million mark, we are in what month? Beside the fact that the Xbox One got Forza, Killer Instinct, Dead rising and Ryse as exclusives at launch. What about the Xbox S/X Zero. By this time they got also Titanfall. They are better because you can rent games. Coool.

Thundercat771533d ago

Exactly. Xbox changed from reporting and bragging about sales to hiding sales. From saying that exclusive matters to having no exclusives and putting them day 1 on PC. From being last place in the market to still be last place.

Is that really turning things around? 🤔

russo1211533d ago (Edited 1533d ago )

Inside Ms and die hard fans yes. Outside world no.

Mr Pumblechook1533d ago

If you’re going to write an article evaluating a business executive’s level of success you can do this based on hard statistics, eg net profit & loss, number and quality of game output etc, or you can base your evaluations simply on perception, meaning reaction to press releases and hype - Gamespot chose the latter approach.

bouzebbal1533d ago

Lol the guy did the best job at making the brand obsolete.. xbox has never been this ridiculous.
Where are the games? Where is vr? Why u turns everytime? They do nothing but talk

frostypants1532d ago (Edited 1532d ago )

@Mr Pumblechook that's modern Gamespot in a nutshell. Same for some of their peers like Polygon. This is what happens when you let brainless hacks larp as "journalists".

Except from the fact that the Console has pretty much been sold out everywhere since launch...

boing11533d ago

In U.S., right? It's standing on the shelves in my country. Not everywhere, but you can get it without any no problem.

Yi-Long1533d ago

@Boing; Not sure about other countries, but here in Holland the XBO Series X (and probably S) has been consistently sold out and thus unavailable since launch.

BehindTheRows1533d ago

Not saying much when EVERYTHING new is sold out everywhere.

We’ll see what happens when things begin to stabilize.

Rockstar1533d ago

Here in Canada where I am at least, I've seen Xbox series s sitting on shelves at Walmart. I'm not saying that's any kind of indicator and I'm not sure how long they sit there before they're gone but I've never seen a series x or ps5 on shelves anywhere.

YourMommySpoils1533d ago

Still on the shelves no matter where.

RosweeSon1533d ago

Tell me a console that hasn’t in the last 10 years 🤣 Wii was sold out for about 2 years after launch. Scalpers gonna scalp. Stock issues persist for all, just don’t think they making enough myself 🤷🏻‍♂️✌🏻 ;

The Wood1533d ago (Edited 1533d ago )

People need to understand that Sony and Microsoft didn't manufacture or ship the same amount of units. It's easy to sell out if you have 5 instead of 10. . If ms have hard factual numbers this debate about being sold out would make sense. The global numbers are very heavily skewed in Sony's favour. They're not afraid to release numbers.

Jericho13371533d ago

So basically what you’re saying is Xbox One performed better because it had exclusive at launch? I mean that kind of goes without saying, so the fact that they’ve still sold that many consoles is actually quite impressive.

Remember, Halo should’ve been a launch title. I’m not sure how much of that was Phils fault, but the fact that he was willing to delay the game a whole year as opposed to rushing it out shows progress at the top.

Regardless, 23 first party studios compared to 5 when he took over speaks volumes.

ApocalypseShadow1533d ago

Phil is the head guy. It's his fault. If some of these gamers are going to blame Jim on some things, then Phil needs to own it.

23 studios and not one first party game for a new console 5 months later. Riding on subscriptions and old games to prop up their failure even when spending 500 million on Halo. Only needing another 500 million to fix it.

They have way more money but spend it terribly making new content. But spend quite well when it comes to subscriptions. Which is what they care about anyway.

Z5011533d ago

Halo was supposed to be a One X title, remember?

Atom6661533d ago

That is far too objective and reasonable for some to see.

Everything bad is his fault.

Everything good is someone else's doing.

This is the fanboy way.

anast1532d ago

Mr. Phil gets all the accolades and all the blame. It's a part of the job.

7 years and Phil saved Xbox and now that he had the network and the hardware fixed, it´s time for GAMES!

People talking nonsense about lack of AAA first party games due the pandemic and shortage of XS consoles are in for some major SHOCK! XD

In Phil We Trust

sinspirit1533d ago

Phil has been in charge of the games since Kinect released, surprise, he was a big reason for Kinect being pushed and was promoted to Director of Games during its release. Way to blame the pandemic in the last year for something spanning a decade. The dude has no idea what he's doing. MS just keeps him around because fans think he's alright. He's really just doing what MS tells him. Investment into the cloud is all Microsofts decision. Just as entering the gaming division at all was Microsofts decision in the first place.

DOMination-1533d ago

@sinspirit: That is just simply not true. Phil Spencer had been head of Microsoft Game Studios since around the beginning of the 360 launch.

Six months after the Xbox One was revealed, the entire division was in chaos. Microsoft had a dud of a console that they spent too much on r&d to just cancel. It was already weaker than PS4 and then the addition of Kinect took even more resources away. Everybody at that disastrous launch event had either walked or told to resign. The ONLY two people remaining were Bonnie Ross and Phil Spencer.

Microsoft were on the verge of culling the entire Xbox department and Phil had to convince Satya Nadella that gaming could still have a big future for the company. One of the first things Phil did when he got the job was to get rid of the reliance on Kinect.

I don't think you can judge him on the Xbox One - the console sucked from the start and all they could do was ride that one out. But the apparent lack of planning for XSX launch games is surprising but that should really fall on Matt Booty.

sinspirit1533d ago

@DOMination-

Where did you get your info?

He was a general manager for their European studios. AKA, Lionhead and Rare. In 2008, he became General Manager of MS Studios as a whole. Shortly after, 2010 Kinect released. Guess who pushed Kinect hard on these studios,.. making those prior european studios solely focused on Kinect titles? Phil. It's no coincidence that he swayed them towards abandoning core gamers and MS agreed to hand him the reigns on his Kinect ideas. Which inevitably lead up to XBox One having heavy kinect focus and less core gamer focus just like the later 360 years he was in charge of.

thesoftware7301533d ago

You guys take any opportunities to jump down MS ass huh?

You based all this off of units sold and exclusives. We get it it didnt launch with any exclusives, but we know they are positioned to have a lot of exclusive in the pipe..same as Sony, it's not like they blew the doors down with launch exclusives.

But is you look at GP subs between xbox and PC and the amount of Fanfare around the console its 100% a turn around from the terrible press and noise surrounding xbox one. So it really depends on the context of "Turnaround"

MS has 23 studios ready to drop exclusives..that was considered one of their biggest flaws and he made sure this was corrected, they have done an amazing job with their Eco system as well..seamlessly trasition of newer games and backwards compatibility games. So yeah, he has made the Turnaround.

343_Guilty_Spark1533d ago (Edited 1533d ago )

Your metric of success is consoles sales - normally sold at a loss?

What does it matter if you can "rent" games? .

Many of these games are on the service either permanently or for months at a time. You use the word rent as if it's some sort of negative.

If you buy a game and the same game is available on GP and we both complete it - was our experience any different?

However if we both hate it...at least I can just uninstall it whereas you paid for it up front.

My metric of success is whether I feel like the Xbox Brand has given me something to keep coming back for more. Yes they have.

GamePass day 1 exclusives and a catalog of great games old and new

Bethesda and Tangoworks purchase by MSFT confirms they are committed to Xbox and gaming in general.

Xbox Series X/S are very good consoles.

EA play/ MLB the Show/Outriders/2K day one on GP - great deals

Continuing commitment to BC, and improving old games I enjoy.

I am a satisfied customer.

IamTylerDurden11532d ago

Remember last gen when Microsoft told us that the Xbox one was outpacing the Xbox 360?

People actually believed it and years in to the generation fans were still pointing at that statement as a measure of success for Xbox One.

Well, how did that actually end up? 360 did 85 million and XB1 ended the generation under 50 units million (estimated). At this moment the number is at 50m even. What that means is XB1 will hit 55m at best considering XB1 has been almost completely replaced with Series S and averages under 80k units per month and shrinking.

So, assuming XB1 even reaches 55 million, it will have fallen approximately 30 million units short of Xbox 360. It didn't even come close let alone outpace/outsell it's predecessor.

So as great as the PR is and as spectacular as uncle Phil is at using buzzwords and generating hype, he did not ultimately increase the popularity of the brand and he continues to use the same manipulation to appear as though Xbox is doing better than ever.

As a preemptive comment, I'll say that Xbox revenue is dwarfed by PlayStation revenue. So don't attempt to use that as a metric of success. Look at 2021, PlayStation is more than doubling Xbox in gross revenue.

And you can point to studio acquisitions, but where was this the past seven years? Xbox has invested in old games because they hardly have any new games worth mentioning. The pace at which quality exclusives release from Xbox Studios is staggeringly slow.

As great as hype for the future is, he launched two brand new consoles with an all-time pathetic launch window. Six months in and the biggest "exclusive" is a timed AA game with a 71 Metacritic (The Medium).

Ppl heap praise and hype the man for what he has done well, but we also must acknowledge the things he has not. The brand was at its peak during 360 with huge new IP like Gears of War and boastful sales numbers as well as the best controller in the business. Now, Xbox lags way behind PlayStation in terms of popularity, it hasn't had a huge new IP in ages, and they are being outpaced on tech. I would argue Xbox mhas been worse the past seven years. Worse with Phil Spencer.

After 7 years Phil are making things more complicated

LegoIsAwesome1533d ago

Care to explain how did Phil helped Xbox? Because in my opinion he only helped PC to be a better platform to invest in instead of Xbox consoles. Jim Ryan of Sony is also slowly doing that.

RazzerRedux1534d ago

I don't always agree with Phil Spencer. Often times, he gets on a soapbox and preaches too much and can be hypocritical occasionally. And his commitment to first party games came about 4 years too late. Those are my main gripes.

Having said all that, gaming at Microsoft is undoubtedly in a better position with Phil Spencer than without him. And most of that has nothing to do with Xbox consoles. Xbox Series X|S is definitely better now than the shitshow called "Xbox One", but Spencer has done more to push PC gaming to the forefront at Microsoft than he what he has done for Xbox consoles. You could barely find a Microsoft game on Steam before Phil Spencer and now every single new game coming from XGS will be on PC and Steam day one and PC has its own version of Game Pass. Spencer made good moves for Xbox consoles, but he made giant strides for Microsoft games on PC. The omnipresent selection of Microsoft games on the Steam top sellers list is proof of that.

ApocalypseShadow1533d ago (Edited 1533d ago )

Yeah. Microsoft abandoning PC for console because it wasn't enough profits. Then, runs back to PC because Valve was making money hand over fist with Steam. A little late don't you think?

Then releases tons of partner VR headsets and made no games for any of them as they were being dumped into the bargain bin because of no games. Trying to ride off of Valve's success. A garbage Halo demo But no Halo, Gears or Forza VR to push those headsets. Sure buddy.

And the only reason they diversified their games to other platforms is because Sony was whooping Microsoft's ass in so many areas, that they shut their stupid mouths about sales and just made shit up with bullet counts and miles driven to give themselves a win in a single man race.

Who you kidding? The lier in chief lied about exclusives, lied about high fidelity VR to sell the one x and mislead gamers on their success. Ridiculous. You blame Jim on closures or slimming down a developer but say nothing about the closures of developers under Sean or Jack. Don't kid us with this fake Jim rage.

RazzerRedux1533d ago

Why are you talking as if Microsoft, Sony, or whoever do any of these things for altruistic reasons. Let's be clear. They don't. So everything these guys do is to make money for their company. Yeah, no shit. Phil Spencer did what he did because Xbox was in a massive hole. Again, no shit. You think anything Sony did with PS4 wasn't because of nearly being beaten by Xbox 360? These are mega-corporations trying to get our money. So who cares? What point do you think you are making?

"Yeah. Microsoft abandoning PC for console because it wasn't enough profits. Then, runs back to PC because Valve was making money hand over fist with Steam. A little late don't you think?"

lol...you think Sony is putting their games on PC for the shits and giggles? Please.

"You blame Jim on closures or slimming down a developer but say nothing about the closures of developers under Sean or Jack. Don't kid us with this fake Jim rage."

Bullshit. Saishi brought up the Japan Studio closure from another article where it was discussed. I wasn't enumerating the ills of anyone here. I wasn't talking about Jim Ryan at all here. I was giving credit to Phil Spencer where I believe credit is due. If that pisses you off, which it obviously does, then be pissed off.

Atom6661533d ago

Looking from a business perspective here: what's better:

MAYBE selling an underpowered VR unit to a few million Xbox consumers. Or...

Allowing VR gaming time to mature while your AR team inks a $20 Billion government contract?

I'm sure Forza VR would be cool, though.

Obscure_Observer1533d ago (Edited 1533d ago )

"Xbox Series X|S is definitely better now than the shitshow called "Xbox One", but Spencer has done more to push PC gaming to the forefront at Microsoft than he what he has done for Xbox consoles."

Lol. And where´s the PC versions of MLB and Outriders? Expect more third party AAA games Day One on Xbox Gamepass that will not make it to PC day and date with Xbox.

I told you that Crossfire X as Xbox exclusive was just the beginning.

Remember: You heard it from me first. ;)

RazzerRedux1533d ago

You are confused. We are talking about Phil Spencer. MLB 21 on PC isn't Phil Spencer's call whatsoever. Outriders is on PC but that wasn't Phil Spencer's decision either. So how does any of that change what I said in complimenting what Phil Spencer has brought to PC gaming? Nothing at all.

How about we talk about things Phil Spencer has direct control over. How about that first party, huh? How about Flight Simulator? Still waiting, aren't you? Where was Gears Tactics on day one? PC, yes. Xbox, no. Expect the same for Age of Empires 4.

And yet we know every single future MS first party game that is coming will be on PC day one. Fact of the matter is that going forward with games coming out of Microsoft, PC is the best place to play.

"I told you that Crossfire X as Xbox exclusive was just the beginning."

Beginning of what? You've been hanging your hat on Crossfire x for almost two years for some silly reason, pretending it will be some monumental event without really saying anything at all.

"Remember: You heard it from me first. ;)"

lo....heard what? You didn't say anything worth remembering.

Obscure_Observer1532d ago (Edited 1532d ago )

@RazzerRedux

"You are confused. We are talking about Phil Spencer. MLB 21 on PC isn't Phil Spencer's call whatsoever. Outriders is on PC but that wasn't Phil Spencer's decision either."

Lol. What? Everything Gamepass related has Phil's finger prints all over It. It's HIS project! What? Did you thought Japanese games like FF, Dragon Quest, Streets of Rage, Kingdom Hearts, Yakuza, Octopath Traveller, Astria Ascending... among others just pop up on Gamepass? Now we're getting AAA third party games on Gamepass thanks to the kindness of those developers hearts? XD.

"How about Flight Simulator? Still waiting, aren't you? Where was Gears Tactics on day one? PC, yes. Xbox, no. Expect the same for Age of Empires 4."

Those are and always has been Native PC games. We already got Gears Tactics. FS in on the Way and we certainly don't mind Wait a little bit for AoE 4. We still getting which is more than any executive has done for Xbox owners in all of Xbox history! Now, are you gonna play Outriders, Crossfire X and MLB on your PC via Gamepass in the future? Hmm...

"And yet we know every single future MS first party game that is coming will be on PC day one. "

Read my previous reply again. I said third party AAA games.

"Beginning of what? You've been hanging your hat on Crossfire x for almost two years for some silly reason, pretending it will be some monumental event without really saying anything at all"

The beggining of many third party AAA games been availiable on Xbox Gamepass Day One, but not on PC. Outriders and MLB are clear exemples in case you didn't notice.

"lo....heard what? You didn't say anything worth remembering."

Lol. Don't worry. Everytime time a AAA third party game hits Xbox Gamepass and not PC Gamepass. You'll remember me. ;)

RazzerRedux1532d ago (Edited 1532d ago )

I was answering this question:

"Lol. What? Everything Gamepass related has Phil's finger prints all over It."

You continue to be confused. MLB isn't on PC at all so why are you pretending Phil Spencer had a say in that? He didn't. And I'm damn sure Phil Spencer would love for Outriders to be on Game Pass for PC. Guess what, that isn't Phil Spencer's decision either. He can only make the offer. Ultimately, the decision lies solely with People Can fly. And considering Outriders is number one on the Steam Top Sellers list, it is easy to see why People Can fly opted not to put the game on Game Pass for PC.

"Those are and always has been Native PC games. "

Exactly my point. Xbox versions were put on the backburner.

"Now, are you gonna play Outriders, Crossfire X and MLB on your PC via Gamepass in the future? Hmm..."

That depends on the publishers/developers of those games. You really think Phil Spencer would say no to any/all of those games being on Game Pass for PC given the opportunity? lol

"Read my previous reply again. I said third party AAA games."

Read my first post again. My entire premise was first party games as that is what Phil Spencer has direct control over. You are yapping about games Phil Spencer doesn't control at all.

"The beggining of many third party AAA games been availiable on Xbox Gamepass Day One, but not on PC. Outriders and MLB are clear exemples in case you didn't notice."

And Flight Simulator, Gears Tactics, and Age of Empires are clear examples of games being on or coming to Game Pass for PC day one, but not on Xbox. Hilarious that you think third party somehow trumps Microsoft first party.

So we have established that both versions of Game Pass have and will have games that are not on the other. Is this what I'm supposed to "remembering" that you I "heard" from you first?

That's really it? Uh....ok. No shit.

Obscure_Observer1532d ago (Edited 1532d ago )

@RazzerRedux

"You continue to be confused."

Lol. No dude, you´re the one confused. First: People Can Fly has no say in that matter. They´re developers. SQUARE/ENIX is the IP owner AND the publisher. Second: If Outriders is not on PC, it´s simple because Phil didn´t wanted to pay Square enough money for Outriders to be there. And that´s has nothing to do with lack of love for the PC gamers either. I mean; what? Did you REALLY thought Phil would invest and release 2 next gen consoles just for you and the PC community continue to say that Xbox is irrelevant? That all a gamer need is a decent PC and a PS5? Seriously dude, with all due respect, if you still don´t get it WHY those AAA games are only availiable on Xbox Gamepass, you´re pretty naive.

"Exactly my point. Xbox versions were put on the backburner."

Obviously. As it should be. But we still getting, which means that games that used to be PC only is now thanks to Phil Spencer, coming to Xbox as well.

"Read my first post again. My entire premise was first party games as that is what Phil Spencer has direct control over. You are yapping about games Phil Spencer doesn't control at all."

Phil Spencer has to pay BIG MONEY for those games to be on Xbox Gamepass. Specially a AAA third party game to be there Day One. Square is making no charity here. It´s business as usual. There´s a CLEAR initiative to promote and sell the new Xbox consoles here that you simple continue and fail to see. Smh.

"So we have established that both versions of Game Pass have and will have games that are not on the other. Is this what I'm supposed to "remembering" that you I "heard" from you first?"

No. What you heard from me first is that you if you think that Spencer will continue to allow that every single game that hit Xbox Gamepass will be availiable day and date with PC, while in the process making Xbox consoles a far less attractive, irrelevant, redundant and useless piece of plastic in comparison with PCs that can offer better performance for all of it´s games, you´re in for some shock and disappointment.

Mark my words.

RazzerRedux1532d ago (Edited 1532d ago )

"Lol. No dude, you´re the one confused. First: People Can Fly has no say in that matter. They´re developers. SQUARE/ENIX is the IP owner AND the publisher. Second: If Outriders is not on PC, it´s simple because Phil didn´t wanted to pay Square enough money for Outriders to be there."

Correct. SE rather than People Can Fly make the decisions. Point remains. The Game Pass negotiation works both ways. It is NOT entirely up to Phil Spencer if it is a matter of how much money is in question. SE and MS have to come to terms on how much it will cost. And yeah, considering Outrider's sales on Steam, seems obvious SE wanted more than Phil was willing to give. As far as we know, SE decided against GP for PC for the game from the beginning. No telling how that went down.

"Did you REALLY thought Phil would invest and release 2 next gen consoles just for you and the PC community continue to say that Xbox is irrelevant? That all a gamer need is a decent PC and a PS5? Seriously dude, with all due respect, if you still don´t get it WHY those AAA games are only availiable on Xbox Gamepass, you´re pretty naive."

You really think Phil Spencer cares about PC vs console chatter? Come on, dude. That's ridiculous. He is there to make money for Microsoft, not provide insecure Xbox fanboys leverage. If Phil Spencer really cared about that nonsense then he would not have committed all first party to PC and Steam. But he doesn't care about it all. As you and others have pointed out plenty of times, he will take my money whether it is on console or PC. Oh....he will also take it from mobile gamers via xCloud. lol

"Phil Spencer has to pay..."

Yeah yeah. Been covered.

"No. What you heard from me first is that you if you think that Spencer will continue to allow that every single game that hit Xbox Gamepass will be availiable day and date with PC, while in the process making Xbox consoles a far less attractive, irrelevant, redundant and useless piece of plastic in comparison with PCs that can offer better performance for all of it´s games, you´re in for some shock and disappointment."

Then I'm not going to be disappointed whatsoever since I never said any of that about Xbox consoles in a general sense at all. My own preferences and views are purely anecdotal. That should be obvious. Even if every game on Game Pass was day and date on PC that doesn't mean a damn thing to the people who prefer consoles. So yeah, what I "heard from you first" is shit I already know. We've seen it work both ways.

Again, my post wasn't concerned with third party games on Game Pass or Game Pass at all. My post was about Microsoft games that were non-existent on PC before Phil Spencer that are now day one on PC. I've done nothing but praise that just as I have PS games on PC. Have a problem with that....well, that's too damn bad, now isn't it?

I have more posts available, but I'm done here. This is becoming repetitive and boring.

Obscure_Observer1532d ago

This has nothing to do with some childish fanboy bullshi* argument, dude. This is about money and business logic. R&D for consoles costs TONS OF MONEY. There´s thousand of investors who wants to see Xbox consoles flying off the shelves. So your assumption that Phil don´t care whether Xbox consoles will sale or not, is simply not true. Phil Spencer always had an eye for what the community has to say about anything game related. He´s aware of all of you saying: "Thanks Phil, for giving me no reason to ever own an Xbox consoles again!" Heck, even former Xbox executive Mike Ybarra said that in a fashion.

Phil Spencer has Xbox investors to answer for, and doing nothing to change the actual narrative regarding PC vs next gen Xbox consoles, will only show him the fastest way to lose his job.

"I have more posts available, but I'm done here. This is becoming repetitive and boring"

Fair enough.

Meanwhile, there is a petition to fire Jim Ryan, because MLB The Show will be on Game Pass Day One.

generic-user-name1533d ago

Anyone can make a petition.

Jim's console is outselling Phil's.

Jim's console has actual next gen exclusives.

Jim doesn't have Bill Gates' cash as a safety net to buy his way out of trouble. It's 2021 and Xbox is still relying on Halo to do something for them.

King_Noctis1533d ago

“ Jim's console has actual next gen exclusives”

The Medium is available on last gen consoles?

ApocalypseShadow1533d ago

king, I didn't know Microsoft made The Medium?

Can you name any Microsoft current gen made exclusives or are you still waiting for Halo that needed another 500 million to fix the low quality?

King_Noctis1533d ago (Edited 1533d ago )

“ king, I didn't know Microsoft made The Medium?”

So the criteria is the game has to be next gen only, and must solely come from its console maker? So Demon Soul Remake, Returnal, and Deathloop aren’t real next-gen PS5 console exclusives you say?

“ you still waiting for Halo that needed another 500 million to fix the low quality?”

Oh thanks you for worrying, but I’m actually waiting for the new Fable, Starfield, Elder Scroll 6, Awoved, Hellblade 2, new Perfect Dark, and Age of Empire 4. Not a big Halo fan myself.

galmi1533d ago

@KING_NOCTIS

You know the n4g drill already, why do you even bother.

Some how ps has all the games yet their fan ladies spend all their time trolling xbox articles

generic-user-name1533d ago

@King Noctis

The Medium is on PC (and will likely go PS5 too based on hints from the devs)

Demon's Souls, Returnal, R&C and Destruction All-Stars are four PS5-only games that will have all been released by June's end.

Meanwhile Phil is providing another Halo, this one with troubled development, sometime later in 2021, and on top of that, it's going to be held back by being a cross gen title (same as Horizon 2 before you think I'm being biased).

Game Pass is a plaster on a cracked dam.

You got downvotes by pathetic gamers for feeling hopeful about good games coming out next year. Imagine how small your brain must be to downvote someone excited for future gaming joy? It is pretty neat to see people's world view blow up in front of them as they realize Microsoft has put themselves in a driver's seat that Sony hasn't been able to touch all generation.... What's even more pathetic is the same people downvoting you are the same people wishlisting Microsoft games on their ps5s 😂

My dude your post history shits on EVERYTHING. You never have a good thing to say about anything lol! 🤣

“Getting ready for those GaaS reveals! Sony is a shadow of themselves this gen.”

You literally said this a couple of days ago. Start applying the clown make up, you hypocritical jester

derek2d ago

Yep we'll see, they have alot releasing next year.

RaidenBlack1d 21h ago

NGL, next year might be one of the best years in gaming ... starting off with RE9 and GTA VI ...
and then all the good games that's been cooking
Pragmata, Sands of Time, Saros, Gears E-Day, 007 First Light, Blood of Dawnwalker,
Mortal Shell II, Onimusha, Marvel1943: Rise of Hydra
current-gen only Infinity Ward's CoD, Duskbloods
+ My guess: Wolverine, Exodus, Mudang, Crimson Desert, Clockwork etc ...
~ seems like it might get too stacked

1Victor1d 19h ago

@rokos:”Hopefully “
I downvoted you not for been hopeful but because I have seen the same “NEXT YEAR WILL BE SPECIAL “ comment for the last 10+ and hasn’t seen anything special from Microsoft.
I hope next year will be the one that everyone been waiting for since the last 3 years of the Xbox 360, it have to be after over $80 billions spent on acquisitions.

Lightning771d 19h ago

So the new excuse is they don't count because it's from the ABK now huh. I guess all those 3rd party games count even less because they don't own them. According to your always crappy logic.

InUrFoxHole1d 10h ago

Lol. You haven't seen anything special? Do you even game?

OtterX2d ago

Always with the "next year..."! 😂

neutralgamer19922d ago

I don't know they have delivered this year and even last year. And they have a lot more content in the pipeline right now than anyone else. We can't just keep hating on MS

Indiana Jones
South of midnight
Avowed
Flight simulator
Hell Blade 2
Minecraft update
Gears of war reloaded
Indian Jones:expansion
Gears E day
Clockwork revolution
Fable
Doom the dark ages
The outer worlds 2
Grounded 2
Call of duty

OtterX2d ago

How many of those titles were just buyouts of companies that were going about making their games anyways? *Throws cash - "Oh look what we made!"

dveio2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

This list, that's been posted again, and again, and again in every single topic like this, contains almost nothing, literally almost nothing from Microsoft's own creational thoughtprocess.

It's a bunch of former 3rd party IPs.

Now even slowly returning to Playstation in some cases like Indiana, Hellblade, probably Starfield soon too, after they were made exclusively to Xbox on purpose.

Due to Microsoft's lack for own IP material except Halo & Forza. Which, the lack of, was the sole reason for all of it to happen in the first place anyway. Please don't pretend it wasn't.

And just look at all the games that come from Obsidian alone.

You really think Obsidian wasn't already working on Avowed and South of Midnight even without Microsoft buying Zenimax?

Microsoft delivered nothing but cheques.

OtterX2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

@dveio THIS. Lol, this dude thinks Call of Duty wouldn't exist without Microsoft! smh 😂

neutralgamer19922d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Common narrative I see often — that Microsoft shouldn’t get credit for the games its studios release because they “just bought them.” But this viewpoint ignores key context and sets a double standard that other platform holders aren’t held to

No one is saying these games wouldn't exist at all without Microsoft. But let’s not pretend that having a trillion-dollar company backing a studio doesn’t make a massive difference. Obsidian never had AAA funding before the Xbox acquisition. Pillars of Eternity was crowdfunded, and their resources were always stretched thin. Now they’re working on Avowed, with proper support behind it.

Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was made by around 20 people, using borrowed equipment and doing mocap in a boardroom. It was a passion project held together by tape and willpower. Today, Hellblade II exists because they were given resources, time, and freedom — something many developers don’t get unless they’re owned by a company that believes in their vision.

ZeniMax (Bethesda’s parent company) was in real financial trouble before the Microsoft acquisition. Reports and insider accounts have pointed out how much they needed a cash infusion. And while some people want to write off Xbox’s ownership of Bethesda titles, they forget the alternative could have meant layoffs or even closures.

The same goes for Activision Blizzard. Would you really prefer the company to stay under Bobby Kotick, after all the documented workplace misconduct and toxic leadership issues? Say what you want about Microsoft, but their acquisition brought accountability and change to a company that desperately needed it.

At the same time, Xbox gets hated on for doing what every major company does. Sony bought Housemarque, Bluepoint, Insomniac — but no one says Spider-Man 2 “doesn’t count” because of that. Why does Xbox get treated differently for acquiring struggling or undervalued developers and giving them a chance to thrive?

And the idea that Xbox locks games away is outdated. They're pushing cross-platform releases, cloud gaming, Game Pass, and backward compatibility more than any other platform holder. They're not forcing all studios into live service. If anything, their upcoming lineup is less GAAS-heavy and more focused on narrative and creativity — Avowed, South of Midnight, Clockwork Revolution, Fable, Perfect Dark, Towerborne, and others show real variety.

Whether people like it or not, Xbox is now the biggest publisher in the industry and owns the most gaming IPs. But what matters more is how they treat their studios. Most of these teams were previously stuck making AA games with limited scope — now they’re getting the tools and support to aim higher.

So when people say “Microsoft didn’t make those games,” they’re missing the point. It’s not about who started the studio — it’s about who enabled them to do their best work. You don’t have to love Xbox to admit they’ve helped a lot of developers and are taking a player-first approach.

Instead of writing off everything they do, maybe try recognizing the good they’re doing for both devs and gamers. At the end of the day, we should want more studios to succeed — no matter who owns them

BeHunted2d ago

I'm surprised Clockwork Revolution (BioShock meets Dishonored) isn't getting more media attention. The game looks interesting and reminds me of the old RPG games.

anast2d ago

The only good game on that list is Flight sim. The rest are either average or will be average. It's not a good look for MS.

TheEroica2d ago

My god.... Look how many comments are upset about microsoft's successes... 😂 This may be my new favorite thread. Not one gamer saying thanks for all the goodness coming their way, just bitter anger and downvoting the very games they themselves will purchase throughout 2026.... Sony really worked you guys over this generation.... Condolences.

DivineHand1252d ago

@neutralgamer1992 You said what needed to be said.

I have heard for years from older gamers that fanboys are the biggest issue with any fanbase. They will defend or gloss over negative news as long as the correct logo is on the box and they bash the competing platform no matter how much good they are trying to bring.

Right now their advocacy for PlayStation is elevating that platform so high that Sony no longer believes they need to do anything to satisfy their loyal fanbase like they did in the PS4 days.

I just hope most of them will eventually start advocating for themselves and encourage others to do the same. No one should blindly support one platform because these companies do not care about anything other than profit.

neutralgamer19922d ago

Hunted

And first proper game done by the studio with proper AAA budget and saying it will be released when ready

Anast

I believe we went through this before that you are objectively wrong. Meta critic, user reviews, game sales. In Playstation top 10 best selling games were 5 from Microsoft studios

Otter

No this dude is saying so many other studios wouldn't be thriving without MS money and people would be getting abused physically and mentally with Bobby kotick and his side kicks

Also maybe look up how the original founder of Bethesda and zenimax was kicked out of his own company by his best friend lawyer. So that was always a shady place and had been struggling financially before MS paid a premium of almost 7 billion

Eroica

I use to be a die hard Playstation fan and now I only have a Pc. I see how these fans are so toxic. They just can't handle any positive news regarding Xbox. When the best selling games on playstation are Xbox titles. Look at Forza horizon being best seller and that's years old game by MS. I guess ms don't deserve credit for that success too since they are the only company in gaming making acquisitions

Forget the fact Sony paid 3.6 billion for bungie and MS 6.9 for zenimax. Which investment has turned out better

Destiny and marathon with a lot of controversy

While zenimax output is nothing short of amazing compared to what bungie has released

crazyCoconuts2d ago

Yeah it's tricky. "Xbox" has morphed to mean different things to different people.
Console, now Windows, GamePass, and the cross platform games. There's a mix of attitudes towards all those things individually, and maybe an overarching attitude towards MS. But can't argue that the game companies MS recently bought continue to flourish, and GamePass PC has been a great value over the last year.

They've had good output so far. So waiting for those games shouldn't be a problem.

Who cares if they're buy outs of companies or whatever excuse you want to make. They're games that are being distributed to other console. Play the games and enjoy it instead of fanboying or complaining.

ocelot072d ago

They going to be a he best and biggest publisher on Xbox, Playstation and PC next year. They not really said anything about Switch 2 though spite claiming to be big supporters.

quenomamen2d ago

If you call making one last Xbox before going full Sega, as Great. Then yea.

TheEroica2d ago

Doesn't feel like you're paying attention to what's happening.
