PS4 Beta Update 8.50 Rolling Out for Testers, Removes PSN Communities

Sony has started rolling out the PS4 beta update 8.5 for those invited to test the new firmware out! Here's what we can expect once it rolls out.

RIP community, I only used it for a little bit but I do know some people still use it. I can see why they removing it but still its something small that still should stay.

I mostly get spam invites for it. LOL! I just stopped caring since I get invited to games I don't even play.

I used them a lot for finding lobbies in games. Used them to help people in Nioh, found opponents in Driveclub. They were an excellent feature and I miss them on the PS5

Maybe it was because the ps4s navigation was so near-perfect that I still haven’t shaken the habit, but I totally agree. Simply closing out of a game on ps5 is a learning process each time. Similar situation with powering down the console: why does holding down the PlayStation button no longer bring up power-down options? In fact, why does holding down the home button on the menu do nothing at all? Every system I can think of with a home button brings up power-down options with a long press. Also, why does the ability to edit your game base come up when you press the option button on an item? The ability to switch out available icons is almost never useful after you tailor it to your liking for the first time. There is no point to keeping that as a quick toggle option above other functions that are missing.

Navigation on the ps5 seems like a really convoluted experience.

Yeah Ps5 ui was a huge step back. Spotify worked so much better on ps4 also. It wasd so easy to pause or skip a song, but now you have to go into the card to do anything and go even further into the card to even do something simple like put shuffle on.

I know this isn't an optimal solution for your problem, but I got the PS5 remote for Christmas and it is very handy when listening to Spotify while gaming. You can pause and skip songs with it. So, use the PS5 remote if you happen to have it.

Shame that they are removing communities. I belong to two in game photographic communities and always liked to see the photos others posted.

Sony some times make the dumbest decisions in my opinion, Evolution Studio, Zipper Interactive, should have locked down Demons Souls back on the PS3 and invest more into making it an exclusive series. Shutting down Home, changing the messaging app, you cant even zoom in on pictures any more like wtf. Now the remove communities. They stopped that magazine they use to put out digitally, I forgot the name. I still miss the show to train people to become real race car drivers. Free movies.

As far as the photo mode communities, I was in a few and would be active in a couple of them. So now the only way to see photos is through Shares of the Week, I dont even think you can share them in the Whats New section of the XMB any more.

Thats a huge L... There is a LOT of people in the Rocket League communities on PS4 who use them for trading.

I joined one community but never really used it or looked at it after the first couple times . I know that there are people that use them but I’m sure the majority of gamers don’t and that’s why they are getting rid of them . It’s unfortunate but understandable

I agree, but you can start a party chat. One of the Communities I'm in did that just before the launch of the PS5 because we had anticipated this happening.

I apologize. I’m part of the reason it’s canceled. I started like 3 communities for games I was anticipating and very shortly after release stopped updating them. Maybe kids were getting more use from them, but I’m grown with a full time job, mortgage, wife, and a big kid. When I have free time I want to play games or watch anime. Stuff to take my mind off work. Managing a community is like a battle pass to me. It feels like an obligation and therefor resembles work too much so I can’t engage in either. I don’t come home from work to clock in if that makes sense.

I was about to join via the email I received, until I saw that new "feature", the removal of communities from the PS4... Something that was advertised to sell the product, they just remove it altogether. Just like the "Other OS" a few years ago on the PS3, or "Home"... Sony don't see the point anymore, or they deem it dangerous for their business, like the internet browser was suddenly deemed persona non grata on the PS5, pfuiiit, they remove it.
That company can suck an acorn, I'm not even bothering to play the beta tester and tell them where they can stick their f*cking firmware update...
