Shit, take cover, two screws to take off the back and a ribbon cable to remove and clean the fan, all those that went nuts over the ps5s one screw for the base are going to go mental😏🙃

RazzerRedux1635d ago (Edited 1635d ago )

No, that dude clearly is a professor of Computer Engineering with specializations in Advanced Applications of Screwdrivers.

IRetrouk1635d ago (Edited 1635d ago )

🤣👌👏

Hoover holes FTW🤣🤣

On a serious note, I actually think its a good design to clean that fan, not sure about dust in the stack but atleast they thought about it somewhat.

'Video Reveals How Easy It Is To Clean'

I can't understand Portuguese and there are no subtitles. Obviously his Xbox SX is brand new what makes him think it gets dirty inside? And if there isn't a door or a panel to enable easy access I don't really want to be pulling parts of my new console out!

UnHoly_One1635d ago

Are we seriously comparing a screw for a STAND (which is strangely required even if you lay the console on it's side) to the screws required to open up the console (something that is not intended to be done by anyone at home anyway)???

I get it, you guys love everything Playstation and hate everything Xbox, but you have to be kidding me if you think this is a fair comparison.

You're comparing something that everyone has to do straight out of the box, to something that nobody should ever need to do for any reason.

darthv721635d ago

I will likely clean the SX the same way I clean my other systems... with my air compressor.

RazzerRedux1635d ago (Edited 1635d ago )

Are you seriously going to be one of those guys who are pretending using a screwdriver so incredibly difficult because you need to use it one time to setup the PS5 stand and then never again? lol

And this is about cleaning the thing which I would think some might want to do.

"I get it, you guys love everything Playstation and hate everything Xbox,"

I get it. Your undying love for Xbox turned you against screwdrivers. That's some hardcore dedication there.

See? I can type snarky bullshit too.

NotoriousWhiz1634d ago

You need a screwdriver to put the stand on your TV. Using a simple screwdriver is by no means consumer unfriendly.

dcbronco1634d ago

Microsoft hasn't come out and said it's necessary to clean your Series X. This guy assumed because Sony tells you how and has made it easy for you that the Xbox requires it too. The PS5 runs in boost mode always. That requires consistent temperatures. The Xbox is running at a basic clock speed for RDNA 2. Making sure it stays clean is probably not as important since it likely won't overheat except in worst case scenarios.

IRetrouk1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

Jezzuz guys it was a joke 🤣 I think its actually a good design for cleaning, if you don't mind opening it.

@pumble, agreed, but its still an nice easy way to do it if needed.

@unholy, no you don't, you use the screw for the vertical position only, the ps2, 3 and 4 all did this.... you can even use your thumb, no scary screwdriver needed👌
Also it was a joke, got ya🤣🎣

@darth, not a bad idea at all.

@razzer, dont even need a screwdriver, I watched a dude use his thumb🤣

@notorious, 👌

@dc, 🤔
reread what you wrote,
That really make sense to you?
The xbox is taking in air like every console before it, which means dust, which gets everywhere, it will need cleaned at some point, what temp it runs at will not change that🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

dcbronco1634d ago

@IRetrouk

I've owned several consoles in my lifetime. I've never opened one to clean it. Most weren't designed for you to do that. In fact they voided your warranty for opening it in most cases. So why the sudden change? The change occurred because this time, for that particular console, it will be necessary. That's why it's done in a way that doesn't void your warranty. Microsoft has said nothing about the need to clean the Series X. Just like it was never mentioned with any other console until now. That's because the accumulation of dust has been calculated into the heat produced. But like I said before, the PS5 is running in constant boost mode, that produces more heat. They will be updating and creating heat profiles for each game. That's not registering with you? It's obviously important that it remains clean. The number of failures from people who stuff that VCR into a entertainment system or other unventilated space will prove me right. We'll see soon because sheep do what they do and have always done. Which means neglect to clean their console and they will overheat and drop performance.

IRetrouk1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

Nobodys saying you do have to open it to clean it, some people only hoover out the vents, some use compressed air, but its a fact that the xbox takes in air, like every other console, dust will get into it regardless of fan profile, or clock speeds, you will have to clear dust from it, thats just a fact, so its nice that its so easy to get to the insides, for those that do that, like me.

The fact that you are trying to turn a good design into something negative just because your fave bit of plastic doesn't have it is funny, but not needed🤣 HOOVER HOLES FTW!! 🤣🤣

"That's because the accumulation of dust has been calculated into the heat produced."

Completely made up statement, how would they get a base level to work off of? Every environment is different🤣

"the PS5 is running in constant boost mode, that produces more heat."

Another false statement, we both know that's not how the ps5 works.....

it is true though, higher clocks means more heat, but that does not mean more dust....

"They will be updating and creating heat profiles for each game. That's not registering with you?"

Changing the speed of the fan in the same environment will not change the amount of dust gathered, not in any meaningful way anyway lol... fast or slow, its still pulling in air....

It seems like my post triggered you and you just threw a load of shite together to be honest🤣

"The number of failures from people who stuff that VCR into a entertainment system or other unventilated space will prove me right."

🤣 says it all really🤦‍♂️

dcbronco1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

Oh, God. Another sheep who thinks everything is a trigger now. Were you triggered when you commented on 5 or 6 people's post?

Dude you don't even know what Cerny said in the Road to the PS5 talk. He even has it as a slide caption. The PS5 runs in continuous boost mode is plastered across the screen. And obviously you don't know this but physics are the reason for the additional heat. It's always been this way. Maybe you've noticed the more powerful a GPU the more exotic the cooling solution. The higher the CPU clocks the more liquid nitrogen gets used. Ever notice the exotic cooling systems when you see record breaking overclocking. It's physics. And higher clocks don't mean more dust😂. But it does mean more heat and dust impedes the flow of cooling air. Again, I've never had to clean a console before and it used to void your warranty to open your console. If that has changed its for a reason. Heat. If dust impedes the flow of air that cools the console the console overheats. So contrary to the norm, Sony has given you a way to clean it without voiding your warranty. In addition it has cooling profiles. The profiles are brilliant. Microsoft should copy that. But there's a reason for that. The system releases a lot of heat and if it doesn't get cleaned it will probably, most likely, fail. That's just physics.

IRetrouk1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

A dude making stuff up calling people sheep, ironic🤣 still triggered though clearly🎣😭

"Were you triggered when you commented on 5 or 6 people's post?"

You mean when I answered the posts under my own🤔 hows that even the same thing as being triggered🤔🤣

"The PS5 runs in continuous boost mode is plastered across the screen."

its not really a boost mode in the normal sense though is it? cerny explained what the boost mode actually was, its so that no matter where the system is placed, hot or cold, they all perform the same, boost up or down, ie not always running hotter, you make too much stuff up man🤷‍♂️(which also invalidates the rest of your post), funny how you remember bits and pieces of his talk but not the whole subject, keep being selective, ill point it out, dont worry about it🤣🤦‍♂️

Regardless of the heat, both consoles will need dust cleared from them, or they will both overheat, its not exclusive to any one console lol, I dont care which one will need cleaned more, the simple fact is dust will get into both systems🤷‍♂️ one gave you an option to get more out of your system than the other, its nothing more than that🤷‍♂️

RazzerRedux1635d ago

Yeah.....it is a good design. Two screws off and there you go. Simple.

ziggurcat1635d ago (Edited 1635d ago )

Will it void the warranty, though? I haven't had a good look at the back of the console yet, but I suspect those stickers will be over the screws you need to remove.

edit: I must have skipped over it the first time, but I can't imagine removing the main label in the centre of the rear panel as well as the smaller one on the bottom side being good in terms of keeping that warranty intact.

Obscure_Observer1635d ago (Edited 1635d ago )

@ziggurcat

"Will it void the warranty, though?"

Yes. At 05:21

"boys don't do it at home, it will automatically void your warranty"

Great "unboxing" btw. Very informative.

IRetrouk1635d ago

Not in the UK it won't, you are legally allowed to open your electronics for cleaning, it was passed a few years ago now.

Bladesfist1635d ago (Edited 1635d ago )

Inside EU and Aus your consumer protection laws likely have a longer guarantee than the warranty. Warranties are just protections on top of your existing statutory rights, they can never remove your rights. In the UK for example, there is a period of time where the company has to prove that the consumer broke the device to refuse a refund or replacement followed by a period where the customer has to prove that a device was defective.

In the UK these rights expire 6 years after purchase or delivery if you got the item after buying it.

So in the UK the answer is yes it will void your warranty but you will still have other avenues available to you to get compensation or a replacement if it develops a fault that was not your fault.

StoneyYoshi1635d ago

@Ziggurcat

Warranty sticker means nothing in the USA and a few other countries. They are actually Illegal to enforce in the US.

anubusgold1635d ago

In the US AS well the companies are full of crap just cause a stink about it and they back down.

GamerRN1635d ago

You can't void the warranty in most states by opening a product. You need to look up your state law

ziggurcat1635d ago

@everyone except obscure:

They can probably still deny a warranty repair if those stickers have been removed because they aren't going to cover the cost to repair an issue that they cannot verify was caused by a defect or user error. That's the whole point of those stickers.

DaCajun1634d ago

@zigg and obscure

kneon1635d ago

The difference though is that this wasn't designed to be opened by the consumer, otherwise there wouldn't be screws hidden under stickers.

RaidenBlack1635d ago

Yea ... those are tamper evident seals.

Ashunderfire861635d ago

And that's why PS5 is the only console where you can vacuum without voiding your warranty. Xbox fans make a big deal about a screw from the PS5, when Sony put alot of thought into the console!

Chris121634d ago

@ashunderfire86 - Sony worrying about their console overheating is not putting a lot of effort into their design. Enjoy using your vacuum lol.

SullysCigar1634d ago

^ interesting take @Chris12, but I haven't seen journalists having heating problems with their PS5, so maybe Xbox could learn a thing or two on that front? Always worth keeping an eye on the competitor's products.

Charal1635d ago

Remove the sticker, void the warranty, a good chance that some people will forget about the ribbon cable tear it appart.

Very user friendly indeed.

RaidenBlack1635d ago

https://www.youtube.com/wat...
Check 0:56 of the official PS4 Pro teardown. If you remove the tamper seal (aka what you called sticker), " you no longer receive customer support from SIE."
And people who tend to open these (like the youtuber) are normally tech enthusiasts who are generally careful from the get go.

GamerRN1635d ago

Removing the sticker in the US will NOT void your warranty

DaCajun1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

Granted GamerRN is a crazed xbot fanboy, they are correct warranty stickers in the USA are illegal. Source of proof below.
https://www.ftc.gov/news-ev...

Plus since when is credible proof from a legitimate government agency seen as false or do fanboys just down vote anything that shines any kind of bad light on the companies that they have a cringe worthy blind love for and their bad practices? So many sheep in this world. SMH

Charal1634d ago

For the sticker: maybe FTC sorted this out in the US, but this is not the only country in the world.
In Europe, sticker removal voids the guaranty.

I actually kinda like the modular approach of XSX along with the split motherboard design.
Reminds me a lot of the canister Mac Pro.

IRetrouk1635d ago

I dont mind it at all, it looks easy enough to clean, and its easy to access, nothing worse than dust you cant get at🤬🤣

1634d ago
crazyCoconuts1635d ago

I'm personally not a fan of the look, but aesthetics aside, it's really neat how they stacked the components inside.

Popsicle1635d ago (Edited 1635d ago )

The design is nothing special to the eye, but I like that it is functional and pragmatic. I also like how the designs of the PS5 and Series X vary so significantly.

Duke191635d ago

This reminds me - I should really clean out my PS4Pro. That thing is starting to sound like a jet engine lately.

This upcoming gen I think Im finally going to get off my lazy ass and start cleaning my systems so more

crazyCoconuts1635d ago

mine sounds ok, but i looked into cleaning it -recently not easy. you've got to take the heat sink off and repaste it.

blackblades1635d ago

Mines sounds like a jet, I dont know how to clean it and dont feel like it either.

cooperdnizzle1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

I put the liquid metal seal on both my ps4pros and now they are Quieter than both of my Xbox 1x. Look into it. It is really not hard and you will never ever have to worry about your ps4pro ago again. Just sold one to a buddy, because I have my ps5 and Xbox Sx on the way. And my buddy couldn’t believe how silent it was. Really works. And it’s bad ass lol

UnholyLight1634d ago

My PS4 Pro isn't quite "jet" level, but if I fire up BF1 it sure does get pretty dang noisy. Heats the room up nicely after about only 30 minutes of game time too. Haha

Quite the opposite.

They didn't think about it at all.

This also voids warranty.
