Horizon Zero Dawn does not have Denuvo, constant 70fps at Ultimate Ultra/1440p on NVIDIA RTX2080Ti

DSOGaming writes: "While the game is quite demanding, it can run smoothly on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX2080Ti GPU at 1440p and on Ultimate Ultra settings."

This game isn't demanding, it's unoptimized.

MadLad1357d ago

Yup.

Guerrilla is a good developer, but they did a pretty poor job porting it.
There's no reason you should need a 2080ti to hit above 60 at 4k, let alone 1440p.

King_Noctis1356d ago

Guerilla did not port it. Virtuous was behind this mess. Had Guerilla done the port in-house, I think that they would have done a much, much better job.

MadLad1356d ago

@noctis

Ah. Wasn't aware. Just assumed it was done in house.

GunHoCharlieA11356d ago

Doesn't matter whether your good or not, it needs capital to achieve a complete port.

Tech51357d ago (Edited 1357d ago )

the game will receive a patch fixing it's major bugs and performance dips.
https://wccftech.com/first-...
i'm guessing the Decima engine was built for 30 fps. or at least the earliest revisions of it. i can also recall Until Dawn having performance dips from the first time i played it. it's nothing that a patch couldn't fix though. so we'll just have to wait and see about the patch for this game.

DevilOgreFish1357d ago (Edited 1357d ago )

the only reason Decima based games have such visuals are for their budgets. beyond that the engine is really not that optimized. as you can tell not even a 14 tflops PC could fix it's internal issues.

CaptainHenry9161356d ago

Hmm Death Stranding is amazing on PC and it's using the Decima Engine

ocelot071356d ago

@CaptainHenry916

Death Stranding has dlss 2.0 support. I'm surprised this does not support it. But I'm sure they will implant it at some point.

Rachel_Alucard1356d ago

That patch already released. The article is from 4 days ago. I just tried to play it and the ram useage shoots up to 14 gb in the beginning. Cutscenes lag and the stutter is out of this world.

Abracadabra1356d ago

The game is one big pile of crap. Doesn't even start... crashes after crashes. I doubt they even tested the game before releasing.

Sophisticated_Chap1356d ago

Perhaps you shouldn't be using an AMD GPU.

1356d ago
ForwardDude1356d ago

The guy that spam n4g with 90$ per hour job make more sens than you

ApocalypseShadow1357d ago (Edited 1357d ago )

Nope. 70fps just won't do.

PC gamers demand 60fps on your first PC release. Because 60fps is where the fun is and what makes games fun. That extra 10fps is ruining the game Guerilla. You need to patch it down and lock it at 60 where it's much smoother /S

Tekken666341357d ago (Edited 1357d ago )

1440p 70 fps on a $2,000 gaming rig with stuttering. and many of it's assets are still hard coded to 30fps. plus Aloy's hair is missing physics. https://youtu.be/5-Saz29hTj...
PC version needs fixing for sure.

MadLad1356d ago

Console gamers need everything hard locked at 30fps to make it as cinematic as possible.

DarkZane1356d ago

Or you know, make it so reaching 120fps is possible (because at 1440p, it should be with less than a 2080 ti).

LightofDarkness1356d ago

Quiet now, the adults are talking.

ApocalypseShadow1356d ago (Edited 1356d ago )

Some gamers, it runs fine. Maybe upgrade your system just to play a PS4 game. Which is funny. You need more power to play a game that runs on a $200 console just fine.

Also a problem with ports and PCs. Console users don't have this problem our version is optimized. Enjoy the inferior running version there buddy.

MadLad1355d ago (Edited 1355d ago )

@apocalypse

"Enjoy the inferior running version there, buddy"

Funny. The same can be said for 99% of releases had on console. Keep in mind that as PC hardware continues to improve, so does older releases via the hardware. Many of your old PS3 games still run as they did when you bought them over a decade ago. The same will be said about current gen games. Unless you pay again for the countless remasters, of course. But revel in the odd, poor PC port all the same. If anything, I'll blame Sony for overlooking obvious quality issues on a major release of theirs.

"You need more power to play a game that runs on a $200 console just fine"

Nobody is ever going to argue that a console is going to be a cheaper *ahem* initial investment. Though I find it funny that you find 1080p at 30fps proper in 2020. That said, I own a Pro, and I'm sometimes still dissatisfied with performance on titles that actually have a Pro patch in place. You also overlook that part of that cheap buy in cost is subsidized by paying for online, and having only one, internal, storefront, thus locked in to whatever Sony decides games are worth. I mean, if you're on a budget, stick with just a console. If you actually know how to manage your money, well, if you're on this site then this is probably a major hobby for you, so why limit yourself? A Ferrari may not be 100x more useful than a Civic, but it sure as hell is fun if you can afford it.

Toiletsteak1356d ago

I watched the DF video on this and its just an unoptimized mess at the moment, hopefully they fix it soon because I was looking forward to playing it again.

nowitzki20041356d ago

You should try it, I have been playing and its really not as bad as people make it out to be. Completely playable in its current state.. And I have 970.

Father__Merrin1356d ago (Edited 1356d ago )

So you need a £1400 gpu to get best out of it. What about gpu that most people have. This port is problematic stutter on a 2080ti lol I thought every game runs at 144 fps silky smooth like butter

Xristo1356d ago

It honestly runs smooth (no stuttering/crashes) on my 2080ti rig @ 3440x1440 (average around 60fps). BUT... I think I may just be one of the lucky ones atm. There's definitely enough proof out there that it's an unoptimized mess for many.

Xristo1355d ago

It may be. I'm using an AMD 3800x.

Bladesfist1356d ago

I too can make up random prices for things, the PS5 is £700.

MadLad1356d ago

Merrin enjoys talking out of his a** like he knows anything about PC gaming, as he lowkey trashes it every chance he gets.

ChristopherJack1355d ago

No & that's why people shouldn't expect any major graphical upgrades this gen- the PS5 is at best, three quarters the performance of a 2080ti & even that struggles at Ultra to achieve 60fps in 4k for many games.

The upgrades will mostly go towards reaching those high fame rates & resolutions. Other graphical improvements over current gen PC won't come from raw power, rather individual engine upgrades, development techniques, etc.

DF Weekly: Do we actually need The Last of Us Part 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn remasters?

With the details we now have in terms of features and pricing, I don't think there are any significant concerns remaining - just that perhaps that the term 'remastered' in the title is a little misplaced. Essentially, what we're dealing with here is broadly equivalent to a release along the lines of Death Stranding: Director's Cut. It's the original game with a dash of extra content and additional visual modes that tap into the power of PlayStation 5.

Bloodborne, Infamous, Killzone, Resistance, Puppeteer, Jak and Daxter etc are all better choices

Even a full on remake of Drakes Fortune I’d take

PrinceOfAnger147d ago

killzone 2/3 definitely a better choice, i have recently finished the games on pc and thought about that, a full remake like demon souls is even better

darthv72147d ago

2&3 are still fine... I'd take the first one as a full remake before the others. They could flesh out more of the backstory that the sequels touch on. Even go deeper into the lore of Helgan.

specialguest147d ago

KZ 2/3 would be amazing. KZ 2 was a graphical masterpiece back then. With today's modern tech, all of those tricks Guerilla Games did to create the effects like the lighting, storm effects, etc, they could now be done in real-time and more realistic

Cacabunga146d ago

Killzone 2-3
Golden Abyss remake
Infamous 2

RaidenBlack147d ago

Uncharted 1 still got a decent remaster for 8th gen ... a remake is not that much of a requirement ...
instead remake candidates should be from 5th or 6th gen
and as for proper remasters (not just lazy res upscale): Killzone 2 & 3 obviously and also Resistance/inFamous (as well as MGS4 :P)

-Foxtrot147d ago

My point with the list is that I’d rather see those titles than what we are getting…titles which are only 3-5 years old and still hold up today

CrashMania147d ago

Sony own the Demons Souls and Bloodborne IP, I wish they'd do something with Bloodborne at the very least.

vfl523147d ago

The way you worded that makes me think you don't realize they already remade demon souls

147d ago
GamingSinceForever147d ago

Not one of those will sell more copies than TLOU2 Remaster. The sooner we realize that these gaming sites and their followers are less than 1% of the buying public the better off we’ll be.

Sure we prefer newer titles but this is business and a business is what Sony is running.

JackBNimble146d ago

Don't you think they could be doing something better with their time and money, like maybe making something new? Or have they become lazy and just reliving the past with the same old games over and over.

Gez ... do something fresh and new already .

notachance147d ago

I'd rather for them to go Square Enix route and remake/remaster their PS1 libraries instead of these unnecessary remaster

come on, legend of dragoon..

Gamingsince1981147d ago

What's with the "need" anyway ? This is video games, no one needs them at all, we need water , we need air, we don't need games.

Barlos146d ago

I would love a remake/remaster of KZ1. For its time it really pushed the PS2 hard and because of that it had a few issues. This is begging to be given the Bluepoint touch and brought up to date. I'd love to see an updated Killzone trilogy collection for sure.

Yi-Long146d ago

Sony killed the game and the studio behind it, but a Remaster of the excellent Driveclub would absolutely be my favorite release if it happened. Just a delicious racing game.

FinalFantasyFanatic146d ago (Edited 146d ago )

So many better choices, I can't fathom why reasonably recent games are getting picked over Classics that are more deserving.

Duke19147d ago

Nope. But HD remasters are an easy cash grab that the masses shovel cash for because while they complain about remakes, they still buy them

PRIMORDUS147d ago

Not if they release on a platform that never received the original in the first place like PC.

46player146d ago

No complaint here, I want the updated graphics.

Ra3030147d ago

My thoughts on this is do we need Richard Leadbetter's or Digital Foundry's opinion on anything........ever? I know I don't they do nothing for me and never have.

specialguest147d ago

You may not, but tons of people do since the video has 4,700 Likes to 112 Dislikes

Chocoburger147d ago

That guy is a buffoon, DF Direct is the best gaming podcast around. I look forward to it every week.

BehindTheRows146d ago

By that same token, some may not NEED remasters, while others may/do.

Amplitude147d ago (Edited 147d ago )

DF videos are typically absolutely amazing game reviews first and foremost. They have great intros, explain the mechanics well, tell you if they enjoyed it or not (I usually vibe well with John's games personally), and then they have the best tech breakdowns of a game's performance which is very very important to me. I want to know what settings to run at on PC, and on PS5 I wanna know if the 60fps mode runs well or not because if it doesn't... well I'll just get it on PC (If it isn't completely broken there too). DF Retro is also always unbelievably interesting and super well edited and inspired my YouTube channel which just crossed 1200 subs (wooo!). They helped me a lot with understanding game development and got me interested in goofing around with game engines and PC building in general back in the day.

I don't mean any offence by this but you sound like somebody who skims their analysis videos, selectively scrolls to the stats, says "who cares?", and then closes it. Or possibly somebody who watches (stolen) cut clips on TikTok? Even if you are somehow unaffected by blurry images and fluctuating frame rates (some people are and I envy you) I recommend watching a full DF episode one day. They're extremely interesting and I watch literally all of them even if I have no interest in the game.

Joris de Man on composing music for the Horizon series

In the video game industry, where visual design and game mechanics typically grab the limelight, the significance of music in enhancing the overall gaming experience is often underestimated. Music can be a key component in the player’s emotional connection with a game. It amplifies emotional impact, heightens tension, and can be a powerful driver of narrative. We’ve had the chance to speak to Joris de Man, a renowned Dutch composer best known for his work on the Killzone series, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and its sequel Horizon: Forbidden West. During the Game Access conference in Brno, we talked about the process of composing music for video games and how he created the harmonies that have shaped some of our most beloved gaming experiences.

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor352d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar352d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg352d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz149352d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138352d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim352d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC352d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138352d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle352d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76352d ago

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger352d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca352d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy352d ago (Edited 352d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

potatoseal352d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright352d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
