Remember When... Dragon Quest IX Shocked the World?

Robust multiplayer options and a brief affair with action-based gameplay made Dragon Quest IX the Shockmaster of the Dragon Quest series.

Never forget the Shockmaster. A wrestler dressed like a barbarian with a glittery Stormtrooper helmet. lmao Anyway I'm a big fan of DQ 9. Being a fan of the Dragon Ball universe I made a team of characters from that franchise. Future Trunks the Warrior. Bulma the Sage and Uub the Martial Artist. DQ 11 and 8 are my top DQ games but 9 is high on the list as well if only because I'm a sucker for being able to create characters.

Great game on 3ds, actually in 3d, unlike dragon Quest 8

The article creator knew what he was doing capitalizing Shockmaster :)

Dq 9 definitely needs a full blown remake. Not sure why it was on the DS after the greatness of 8 on Ps2. I still enjoyed it just never finished it.

ZeekQuattro1395d ago

Because Japan favors handheld consoles over home consoles. It's the same reason why DQ11 was also on the 3DS in Japan.

Outlawzz1395d ago

Very true I forgot about that fact lol it just feels like such a down grade compared to dq8 as successive numbers in a series tend to improve compared to their predecessors. So it's kind of the oddball of the dq series. Just my opinion of course

....suuuuuuuuuupaaaaa draaaaaaaaaagonnn!

SouljAx3601395d ago

I didn't know DQ9 existed until after hearing about DQ10.

After loving DQ8 so much. The completely different style of storytelling and making your entire team before you enter the game was a huge turn off. Meeting characters that become a part of your party along the way is one of the best parts of the RPG journey. I know its not an uncommon thing in many of the CRPGs to just make your party and go. Even the first final fantasy had that but imo the game lost a great opportunity for telling a great story like 8 for an outdated mechanic. You did meet npcs along the way in different towns but the entire story felt light.

Dragon Quest IX's Heavenly Adventure Is Stuck In Purgatory

Dragon Quest IX was a quality JRPG, but it is only available on the DS, when every other game in the series has been ported to other platforms.

I'd love to play this. Couple things keep that from happening. I don't like portable gaming. I don't think my hands are huge but I bought a 3ds for braverly default and my fingers would cramp up after 20 30 minutes. Kinda killed it for me.

I hope they do port it but port it to everything. Not just the switch or whatever. I'm still salty about dragon quest treasure hunters being switch only. I really wanted that. I loved dq11. I know it's a different type of game but I like those types to

phoenixwing527d ago

Dragon quest treasures is also coming to pc

ZeekQuattro527d ago

He only cares about Sony products at the end of the day so he gets bitter when not everything comes to the platform. Doesn't matter what the game is at this point. Its the idea that non PS platforms also get exclusives timed or otherwise that rubs him the wrong way. 🤣

phoenixwing527d ago (Edited 527d ago )

@zeek I root for playstation but that shouldn't stop you from getting a pc or switch. Heck some ppl buy Xbox series and claim they want to play legacy titles that aren't on pc. I find that a little ridiculous but whatever floats your boat.

Zeek

I prefer to game on my ps your right. Bitter idk u might be stretching it. I'm bitter cause Nintendo released and continues to sell broke a joycons. I'm mainly on the point of dq11 released on ps4 I bought it day one and re bought it on ps4 when the definitive edition came out. They decide to release this on only the switch while I've invested major time into 11 and would like more in it.

Say what you want this is a video game website where we can type messages so I'm just saying how I feel.

Also don't tell me how I feel. If a game comes to another and I'm interesting I have a right to say damn I'd like to play that on ps. I've been gaming for 30 years I know how going works not every game will come to my preferred platform. That's why I have all three. Just that I prefer again to play games on my Playstation. Tell Nintendo to come with some correct controllers next time and people wouldn't have an issue.
I have a ps switch Xbox and laptop with steam on it. I go by the same name on all of them

So in the end don't put words in my mouth ja

gold_drake527d ago

its the same with dragon quest 8 on the 3ds
i wanted the remaster for consoles too.

Melankolis527d ago

That's right. 3DS's DQ8 was not the port i wanted with all the jaggies and deforestation. I was really disappointed so i'm not finished with this issue, i want a proper port/remaster without graphical downgrade.

gold_drake527d ago

right?
like why did square even consider it? i mean, money yes. but damn. DQ8 is not a game you make for a handheld. ever.

Dragon Quest XI is Engineered to Try and Woo a Western Audience (Again)

The stage is once again set for Dragon Quest to make a big impression on a fresh Western audience. Will this be the series' breakout moment? Will Square Enix see a massive adoption movement akin to Capcom's recent Western success with Monster Hunter: World? Dragon Quest XI looks great, it sounds good, it's getting a Steam release alongside its console release, and the success of another turn-based RPG—Persona 5—proves North America isn't as allergic to "old fashioned" JRPG systems as some people initially thought. If Dragon Quest is going to shine on these shores, it's now or never.

This is gonna be amazing, i love DQ, i wish Sony would allow DQ8 on PS2 classics.

It’s hard for this series to catch on big in western markets because of its various very traditional mechanics.

I’m not even talking about it being turn based. Dragon Quest does many things cuz of tradition that wouldn’t set well with any other franchise

PhoenixUp2239d ago

There’s been so many attempts to make Dragon Quest a big name in western markets, I’d be amazed if this game somehow pulled it off

thorstein2238d ago

It's too bad it doesn't because it is such an amazing series. Only half a million people bought DQ VIII on PS2 in NA. I was one of them. Great game even today.

Oh no, Not another Top Ten: RPG & Platformers

Dorit Vaknine remembers RPG's on the small (and sometimes dual) screen but this didn;t mean a small story, the worlds were expansive, the plotlines creative and the graphics? well, sometimes they could be a bit blocky we guess.

Here Dorit Presents her personal selection, the top ten, the grand reserve of "retroish" RPG.

Interesting top ten but....Phantom Hourglass was a medium game in my opinion. At least I see Goldn Sun, maybe the best jrpg of the past 15 years.

3-4-53501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

Doing a Top 10 is beyond lazy.

* Do a top 100 minimum.

At least then we won't think your lazy and just browsed a random list of games for 2 minutes and copied down the names.

* It Takes NO SKILL whatsoever to make a top 10 list.

NO SKILL....NO TALENT......

Anyone of us could do this.

If you want to be above a HOBBY SITE, then DO MORE.

* This isn't JUST towards this list, but all of these that are on this site Daily...

It's pathetic at best.

Spyro- "It’s a Platform game with RPG elements such as attacking bosses to save the world."

...attacking bosses to save the world=rpg elements? I haven't played the game but that doesn't make any sense to me.

But wait... DOES THIS MEAN HIS FAVORITE PLATFORMERS OF ALL TIME WERE THE GBA SPYRO AND CRASH GAMES???

I mean, its just an opinion I guess, but it seems wierd as hell to me. Doubt you would meet many gamers who would choose those games as the top 2 platformers. Their ps1 iterations of those series crush those imo.
