Review: The Last of Us Part 2 - Love, Morality And Vengeance | Game Luster

An honest depiction of love, morality and vengeance, The Last Of Us Part II is a Naughty Dog masterclass, and a worthy successor to the first game. If you like post-pandemic titles, it's a must own.

The worst thing about The Last of Us is that it made me realize that the gaming community is still a bunch of crybabies that just can't accept different opinions, and instead of discussing they yell at each other pretending to be right.

I'm ashamed to be a gamer right now.

At least the game was good for me.

I've noticed that the ones who genuinely want to point out what they find flawed about the story are still able to recognize that the game is remarkable technically and the gameplay is better than the first. They can agree that the game is still great.

The other side is not able to accept that real fans have some valid points of where the game should be better. That the game is somehow infallible and above criticism.

Then there's the entitled fools that think the game is somehow politically charged. No one should pay any attention to those fools.

I haven't played the game yet, but I'm even more intrigued after all the controversy. I can't say where I'll stand, but I'm going in with an open mind.

No game or company is above criticism. Absolute perfection doesn't exist, and no one should feel bad about disliking a game no matter how popular it is. Conversely, no one should feel bad about liking a game, no matter how much hate it receives. In short, no one should feel bad about having an opinion, whether that opinion is in line with what the masses think, or not.

I have nothing nice to say to those who make a political issue out of everything. They're the human equivalent of a migraine, and the reason why I've come to despise politics. I miss the days when games were just games, and no one got offended over the dumbest of things.

Agree on the 1st point. Just like any ND game, it's pushing the technical side of things and that's what we've come to love and expect. Anyone denying that it isn't a graphical highlight for this console generation, is delusional.

Indeed, discussion is healthy. A lot of the rage by people who actually played the game is fueled by this aggrandisement of the game by professional reviewers. It's been a long time since there was such a disconnect between what reviewers say and (a big number) of regular players experience. If you're expecting a mind-blowing game in every regard, even smaller issues will stick out harder, because expecations were hyped up too much.

People dismissing the game completely, just because Ellie is gay or there's a pride flag in the game, should indeed not be taken seriously. However, Druckmann has come out multiple times stating that our society is not diverse enough. I, and many others, don't mind diverse characters and storylines, as long as they fit in, and their sexuality isn't a defining/only trait.

Throughout the years, ND have become more "progressive". It's definitely not enough to be that detrimental, but there definitely is a "growth" in that regard. Just compare the original Uncharted games, to having more diverse/empowering elements such as superhuman Nadine in U4, to Nadine taking the typical male role in Lost Legacy, while Sam became the butt of all the game's jokes.

Now, we're at TLOU2, and we have Abby's diverse group, a trans character actually voiced by a trans kid actor (who was hand picked by Druckmann, without having to audition), and more jabs at traditional white males. For example, the already infamous "bigot sandwich" or the erotic fan fiction about how "some girl could get her desires fulfilled at the sorority, unlike what she has experienced with any man". It's just lame little things, that show that ND likes putting their political ideology in their games, and it's only getting more noticeable.

Luckily, it hasn't come to the point where their politics are the driving factor of the game. With the current way things are going, I do think it might in the future though.

@Final_Aeon:: you're right. Thing is, politics in games are going to be less and less inevitabile as time goes by.
I can't deny it's an interesting topic, but the thing that does make me mad is the fact that everyone is using little "lame" details to fuel the game's hate flame. So, I can't do anything but think that a lot of people that hate the game probably just found every little unobserved detail to justify their hate, because they HAD to hate the game.

I don't know, maybe I'm just too attached to this game because I really think it's generational.

Final_Aeon1762d ago

Yeah, and the game wasn't as good for me, and some people hate it. Most people play games for fun. If they're not having fun, of course they'll be pissed.

Also, "just can't accept different opinions", ah your comment is hypocrisy in its purest form.

Obelisk921762d ago (Edited 1762d ago )

How is it hypocrisy? I'm perfectly fine wirh every legit opinion.
The only one that I can't accept are the one thaf don't show arguments at all.
If you're genuinely not having fun with the game it's not my business.

Responding to our discourse above:

I can't agree that ND is putting personal politics in their games. There's REPRESENTATION, but that is not the same at all.

Think of all of the famous personalities who were GLBT. Elton John, Boy George, George Michael, etc. Was there some sort of paranoid takeover of the GLBT on entertainment? OF COURSE NOT. I think you have the same problem as the rest of the people in your camp. That representation equals agenda/takeover. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The Last of Us™ Part II Remastered 2025 PC 4K (No DLSS) Incredible Forest Graphics

CG says: In this video, we take a look at the same forest section on horseback in The Last of Us™ Part II Remastered that we showcased in 2020 on the PS4 Pro. It’s an amazing bit of exposition with not much happening aside from a bit of banter. However, taking it slowly rather than galloping past, the forest graphics are actually pretty detailed. One of the more beautiful moments from the game. PS4 Pro version holds-up pretty well (that output was upscaled 4K and back then, there was no DLSS or AI interventions that we know about).
