More Dreamcast Ports of PC Games That Never Happened

Looking back, the Dreamcast’s ambition was nothing short of impressive for its time. It was the only console that strived strongly to port some of the best PC games back then to its dearest fans. Unfortunately, some of those games remained nothing but a possibility.

Sad how it ended for DREAMCAST it was an amazing console with real good games.

FreeckyCake1825d ago

Indeed!
In my opinion, it was also ahead of its time!

Solid_Malone1825d ago

Definitely! Really miss the Powerstone 1 & 2 games from Capcom. Could easily kill so many hours on those games getting all sorts of collectible items.

I am still using my first Dreamcast to this day. I use it for about 2 weeks each year whenever I get a nostalgia bug. If Sega had done better with the Saturn, I think Dreamcast would have been better received and certainly gamers would have had more faith in the console. I keep hoping that Sega will return to hardware and come up with a Dreamcast 2 but I guess Sega is better off financially making games for the three existing console families.

The PS2 killed the DC before the PS2 had even launched.

No it didnt the Ps2 launch wasnt that good the dreamcast one of the greatest launches of all time. Its just sega had pissed people off with all their bad addons over the years plus sega japan wouldnt let the US do anything.

Sega had had issues with both their stockists as well as many of the gaming public with various add-ons to hardware over the years prior to Saturn. With Saturn, they announced the console the weekend before it was available giving themselves no chance to build up hype and a following and they pissed off so many of their potential sellers who then saw Sony as the more viable company and which had made a real entrance with the PS1. That bad taste remained and eventually affected how the Dreamcast was perceived and received. Even though it had much to offer and was a robust system with many original features, there was little faith in Sega and as if to confim that little faith, the company soon announced the ceasing of production about a year after it had launched in the West. That was it. Sega was out and have never really recovered. They have so many fantastic IPs in their vaults but have done little with them. It was as though after giving up on the hardware, it lost its mojo for the software. Yes, there has been an occasional success but when you consider the IPs they have, there are a shadow of what they could be.

Did that guy really just say the PS2 launch wasn't that good? Was he five when it came out?

Sony showed off the PS2 before the DC launched in NA and it basically sucked all the air out of the room. Tekken Tag Tournament, the Gran Turismo 2000 demo and the coming of Madden sealed the fate of the DC. That's before we even get into the lack of dual analog sticks, the GD Rom drive and their reliance on arcade software.

I liked the DC, but it launched poorly and with the PS2 launch looming it had the deck stacked against it. It was the same deal with the Saturn, regardless of how it launched no one wanted it didn't matter how many Ice Cube ads they put into magazines. The Playstation on both counts did more to undermine excitement for Sega consoles than Nintendo ever had, and it had nothing to do with the Sega CD or 32x.

I will take the launch of dreamcast over ps2 any day of the week. Its the only console i bought 10+ games at launch well the 360 i bought like 8 .

Jayszen1823d ago

@Edgelordsupreme

I agree with you. The PS2 launch just was one of the last nails in the coffin of the Dreamcast. However, had Sega not botched the previous generation of hardware there it would have been possible for Dreamcast to survive. But by the launch of PS2 it just did not have the goodwill of developers and major studios. Sega had let them down just too often. I have never understood why Sega has never fully utilized the IPs it owns. It is madness.
