Review - Shantae and the Seven Sirens (Xbox One) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "Shantae and the Seven Sirens is an excellent return to form for the belly-dancing indie heroine. It’s a game that looked back to its previous iterations, took notes of what people liked the most about each one of them, and added everything to a blender together with some new gameplay features and quality of life improvements. There might be a ton of indie metroidvanias out there, but this one is absolutely worth checking out."

I certainly love me some Shantae, and this one is definitely one of my favourites in the series. It still falls a bit short of the Shantae I'm really wanting, but it's a lot closer than previous entries. For starters, I hope later entries ditch mobile so we can have full VA. I'm not counting on it, but screw mobile for that. Secondly, as much as I enjoyed the new forms here, I miss the originals, so I kind of want a return to Sequin Land.

If Shantae is to embrace a Metroidvania future, which is one I wholeheartedly support, I hope for there to be an increase and improvement in map icons so it's clear where key areas are, making it much easier to find them after backtracking, and especially after setting the game aside for a bit and coming back to it.

Otherwise though, Seven Sirens is a step in the right direction, especially after the more disjointed experience that is Half Genie Hero.
