I highly doubt Square Enix would go through all the trouble (and cost) to have these characters modeled and voice acted only to make them optional like the original.

RpgSama1817d ago

Specially with how popular someone like Vincent is.

Pozzle1817d ago (Edited 1817d ago )

And especially since Vincent's backstory is related to Hojo's past and the events leading up to Sephiroth's creation/birth. His story was already tragic in the original game, but I'm betting the remake will really flesh out all the details and emphasize the tragedy and guilt he feels. There's no way he'll only be an optional character. It was always kinda silly he was optional in the original game, anyway.

As for Yuffie...In the remake there were a lot more references to ShinRa's war with Wutai, and we saw a lot of animosity towards Wutai among Midgar's citizens (and ShinRa's staff too), so it seems like Wutai will be more than just a bunch of optional side-quests this time around. So it's unlikely Yuffie will be an optional character either. It will be interesting to see where they go with her character, since I imagine a lot of people won't be too pleased to see the 'princess' of the enemy nation wandering around their towns.

lellkay1817d ago

@Pozzle no idea why you have a downvote, what you have said is pretty spot on.

RpgSama1817d ago (Edited 1817d ago )

@lellkay

No idea neither, what he said is 100% gospel, maybe from someone who played the game for the first time with the remake, I guess you could consider the things he said spoilers.

The original Is so far out that sometimes we forget not all of us are in their 30's/40's.

Name Last Name1817d ago

The fact that some people thought they were going to be optional is the real news here.

I'm fine with them being added officially to the story. All the additional stuff that happened after the game includes them as if the person was familiar with them.

At the very least have them as guest characters you dont directly control.

lex-10201817d ago

If we're supposed to accept that FFVII Advent Children is cannon (which is what the developers of the FFVII Remake said) then their inclusion is considered cannon

solideagle1817d ago

I wonder if they will have new playable characters to flesh out the story or they couldn't add in original?

SPOILER ALERT FOR THE ENDING!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED THE GAME! Anyway they have pretty much told fans they will be doing whatever they want after that ending. Almost feels like they don't want to be making a FF7 remake and would prefer to tell their own story. Which in my opinion is not going to work out. Multiple timelines? Reviving dead characters? Kingdom hearts bosses? I hope I'm wrong but I'm worried for the rest of the games.

RpgSama1817d ago (Edited 1817d ago )

I loved the game, and I loved the ending even more, It made me very excited to take the next part of this "new" adventure with new eyes, but with the same characters, I actually think it was perfect and very emotional.

InKnight7s1817d ago

Exactly, maybe there are two parties when it come to VIIR with a one saying "no we want exact remake" and the the other "we are good as far as not too complicated like KH or another meh spin off style", but at least the majority is agreeing that the remake is reviving FF as great and impactful RPG. It is literally there with Horizon, The Witcher 3 and Persona 5.

rainslacker1817d ago

It's their game. If they can make the story as good as they did in the first, I'm fine with them making changes to the story. Nothing from the first was so outlandishly different that I felt it would change the core of the story that much.

Nerdmaster1817d ago

[SPOILERS!!]
The problem is not them changing the story. It's them creating all that convoluted and unnecessary ending about timelines, destinies, whispers and whatnot to justify it.
Barret being killed by Sephiroth? I thought "Wow, that's awesome! They are being really bold!".
Whispers save Barret because "it's his destiny to not die now"? That's just cheap.

rainslacker1816d ago

Spoilers

And ultimately, nothing changes to the story because of it. So far, the whispers change nothing about people's fate, except to say that the characters are part of the destiny of the planet, without any indication about who the whispers actually serve.

If that's what people are all upset about with the changes, then I feel it's just trying to hard to find something to fault. I didn't feel the ending, or the changes were convoluted. Things weren't that clear about what was happening at the end, but at this point in the story in the original game, we didn't really know as much as they went over in the first part of the remake.

Nerdmaster1814d ago

[SPOILERS!!]

"I didn't feel the ending, or the changes were convoluted"
Sephiroth opens a dark portal and invites the party to follow him. Aerith turns the portal white. Can you explain what was this change? Or what would've happened if they entered it while it was still black?
Also, why did they have to go through a portal to fight the whispers? And what place was that, since it looked exactly like the normal world?
Aerith goes through the game without demonstrating she knows what the whispers are, even trying to fight them off in the beginning. At the end she suddenly knows about whispers, destiny, that going through the portal would make them "lose themselves", basically showing that she knows everything that's happening. What's the explanation for that?

This is without even considering the theory I've read of there being between 2 to 4 different Sephiroths, that the Sephiroth who opened the portal and knows about destiny is different from the one(s?) that appear throughout the game.

If this all isn't convoluted to you, I wonder what is...

rainslacker1814d ago

Spoilers

The ending portal was a construct of Sepiroth to show what their destiny was. No logical reason why Aerith had to change it white, but it was probably more to show her doing something. Either way, that conclusion didn't change the rest of the story, just added a boss fight, which I will admit was not necessary for the story, and I feel they just wanted you to have to fight Sepiroth.

Aerith's knowledge of the Whispers seem to come from Red XIII, who did know what they were, and he seemed to gain his level of consciousness to the point of being able to communicate when he came in contact with Aerith in Hojo's lab. Although this wasn't explained very well, and perhaps I misinterpreted. Best I may be able to come up with is that she knew what he own destiny was, and didn't understand the Whispers part to play in getting her there.

I won't get into the theories of other Sepiroths, as I haven't read them, nor is there much evidence of multiple universes. It's a plausible one, and certainly not unheard of in anime timelines, but I'd have to think on it more to come to a conclusion.

I do think however that there are multiple vessels that Sepiroth has taken, and his manifestation is his will using the lifestream to take over those guys in tattered robes. The game has already had him referencing reunion, which I don't recall from the original game, but was something from AC which allowed the main bad guy to become Sepiroth.

Razmiran1817d ago

Well, seems to me like your opinion is just plain wrong son

lellkay1817d ago

Of course they will become non optional and that's not a bad thing.

Fraggle19871817d ago

This was always going to be the case. Makes sense.

Kados1817d ago

This was already essentially confirmed a year ago. You can still get them early at the original optional points, but eventually they will forcefully enter the party, if you do not already have them.

Nebaku1817d ago

Absolute BS. Vincent is asleep in a freaking coffin underground. You mean to tell me 75% through the game, he's going to wake up, leave, and go to meet up with people he's never met before?

Kados1817d ago

Not necessarily, there could be some new story point that makes you go search the manor and revive him. I do not know the details of how he joins, just that he does.

Nebaku1816d ago

@Kados I see. How very convenient that you know something so crucial yet actually know nothing about it...

Yeah. That’s the first I’ve seen it anywhere near #1.

Mario 64 is great but I wouldn’t put it over Mario World.

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list is a crime.

CUnit12312367d ago

Sorry lol. I wrote the article but 5 of us voted for many different games and majority went on the list then we worked on the list. If it were just my personal top favorite we'd seen some xenoblade and star ocean as well as some others. Thanks for checking out it!

Chrono Trigger at 31 makes my heart hurt.

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list at all is a crime.

This Guy Rebuilt The Original Final Fantasy 7 In LittleBigPlanet 2, And It's Awesome

Nearly 27 years after the original game's release, Final Fantasy 7 superfan Jamie Colliver has finished his magnum opus: A shot-for-shot remake of the original PlayStation 1 game, created entirely via LittleBigPlanet 2. Colliver's remake reimagines the original game as a platformer, with every scene, every location, every line of dialogue, and every song from the game's OST painstakingly implemented .

The effort here is impressive. Hope it doesn’t get taken down.

fr0sty277d ago

He should have done it in Dreams though, the limitations of having done it in LBP are obvious.

solideagle277d ago

ah Dreams had so much potential, I think they should have released it on PC. one can only dream about dreams sale and popularity on PC. PC has modding/creative crowd and I think it would have been a hit

gleepot277d ago

I love seeing projects like this. So much passion and time.
