Original Final Fantasy 7 - Is it Worth Playing in 2024?

Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?

Got to Zacks part in 7 Rebirth. Said f it. Finishing my game in 7 og. Just got to part 2 yesterday. I also got Crisis Core... So it'll be a while before I'm back to Rebirth. I just keep thinking about it too smh, want to get back to playing it. Not till I know Zacks story though. I beat 7 og sooooooo long ago, it's crazy going through it again and remembering things.

Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

It always takes me back to Christmas 1997, I got it as a gift and I was blown away when I played it. I couldn't believe games could look that good. The combination of pre rendered backgrounds and FMV really made it stand out. It definitely still has a certain charm that modern games can't replicate.

I can't imagine people will still be talking about Remake and Rebirth in 27 years.

Fully agreed. To me the atmosphere, pacing, gameplay and music are all better than in the remake.

Yes, personally I prefer og FF7, remake and rebirth add unnecessary formula to the story, like whisper...etc.

Yes! I replayed the game back in 2020 on PS4 and got the Platinum Trophy.

For old folks we don't care that they graphics are outdated, but younger people may have an adjustment period. However I believe the art design, music, and overall enjoyment of the game will eventually hook in younger gamers if they stick with it.

I don't know, young people seem to make games that look like stuff from the 90s themselves, so I don't really think a lot of them need to adjust that much. Atleast not the type of people that would play a jrpg.

Yeah, but that's usually pixel stuff. The OG is still stuck with low res pre-rendered backgrounds and low poly character models. It actually got me thinking earlier if the retro pixel based graphics stuff will move on and we'd start getting games with pre-rendered backgrounds and polygonal characters again, just in higher quality.

Yes FF7 was one of the games that help put Playstation on the map. I still play the old FF7, FF8, Xenogears, Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis. Just because they are old games doesn't mean a person can't still have fun with them.

It most certainly is. One of the best game. Idda recommended it before playing remake personally. So you know what actually going on and can see certain things.
