Phantasy Star Online 2 is a game that many in the west are only just getting introduced to. While the game has been released in Japan for nearly 8 years, this SEGA institution still garners a substantial amount of fanfare from its admirers around the globe. Now with a PC launch looming, and years-worth of content to explore, is Phantasy Star Online 2 worth the wait, or is it too little too late?
Some WoW-like MMORPGs are better than others. Here's a curated list that offers a wide variety of games that let you play with other people but have something unique to offer.
WoW is a mess and it will continue to be a mess. Still, the less-developed MMOs are going to have trouble gaining a fan base because they lack content right now. Even if people do flock to FF14 or BDO, they'll go back to WoW if they fix enough features or give players a shred of hope.
Blizzard is going through some stuff right now, and people are seeing the writing on the wall— World of Warcraft might not be the best game in which to invest your time at the moment.
Nah, I'll keep playing the game with the millions of other people. The writing on the wall says "game is not dead" even though people have claimed it is for 15 years.
With the release of a global server, this MMORPG is available on PC and Xbox. However, does Phantasy Star Online 2 have cross-platform play?
Here, let me save you the click: "Yes, Phantasy Star Online 2 does support cross-platform play between Xbox One and PC"
"this SEGA institution still garners a substantial amount of fanfare from its admirers around the globe"
Yeah, and they release it to one region, North America.
I know I can still play it because it has no region block, but if I want to purchase any premium items, I will have to jump through hoops to do it.
I just don't understand why Sega have messed up this games release so much. It took them 8 years to release it outside of Asia, then when it does leave Asia, they release it to North America only. It's the kind of backwards marketing you would see from some games companies in the 90's.
Surely they knew about the fanbase outside of Asia right? The fans have created English translations for Phantasy Star games never released outside of Asia, they are so dedicated to the series that they use an emulator to play Phantasy Star Portable 2 online. Because it took so long for Sega to release PSO2 outside of Asia, you have fans translating a huge portion of the game so people from other countries could play on the Japanese server. Then you have fans so dedictated to the series that they create private servers for PSO and PSU.
If you couldn't already tell, I get annoyed any time I think about PSO2 these days. PSU was shut down worldwide in 2012 because of this game, and we were left in the dark for 8 years. Those of us that loved PSU was expecting to jump into this game not long after PSU's official servers were shut down for good, and Sega just distanced the series from us for 8 years. Sega has treated foreign fans of the series appallingly, and they still do it today. I wish the gaming media would mention some of this instead of kissing Sega's ass when it comes to this game. It's not a success that another part of the world gets to fully experience this game, it's a joke that Sega took so long and still can't give it a worldwide release.
Sega never fully got there act together after the bomb that was sega hardware. Genesis nomad sega cd 32x and game gear all on the market at once , so no focus. Then they kill all systems when they release the enhanced 32x known as the Saturn , and still put out terrible games, God did you ever play NFL 97 on Saturn its horrific, especially compared to playstations game day series.hell even the genesis version of NFL 97 is 50x more fun and fast.I could go all day but after I got a saturn and realized it was just not getting the games I want I got a Sony playstation and eventually a n64, if only the dreamcast worked out ,that machine had killer games and graphics especially through VGA hooked to a decent monitor
