a hell of a scene and acting, you should get an oscar for that, amazing

Nyxus1916d ago

No kidding, it really was superb acting.

sampsonon1916d ago

Oscar? lol he didn't get a nom for the game awards.
man, what up with that?

UltraNova1915d ago

Mads and Reedus overshadowed his performance due to their celebrity status and constant exposure prior to the game's release.

Not only that but I feel Jeoff's involvement with both tGAs and Kojima affected everyone when it came to award noms and ultimately wins so Jenkins no-show is not strange to me at all.

sampsonon1915d ago

@UltraNova:

with all due respect, Mads and Reedus's performances were mediocre. I like both actors, but this wasn't their best performances.
Jenkins stole the show for me. especially that end scene, just wow!

I am not saying he should have won because i didn't play the other nominees game to judge. But to not be nominated is utterly ridiculous IMO.

UltraNova1915d ago

@sampsonon

Wasn't referring on Mads/Reedus performance but on their far bigger popularity as stars...and yes Jenkins performance (even Heartman's) was better.

mkis0071915d ago (Edited 1915d ago )

Not only that but it was the most realistic looking scene focusing on a person in a video game

babadivad1915d ago

This game was SOOOOOOO boring to me but I keep hearing about how the game opens up and how great the story is.

May have to suffer through and plow through this.

The_Sage1915d ago

I never found it boring but I will say that it really does change around Chapter 5. Once you have floating carriers, bikes, trucks, guns, and grenades the way you play can change. Not only that but connecting to the network allows other players structures to be used which makes traversal easier. I know I've left ladders, ropes, roads, and rooms for other players, and I place helpful things in the shared locker as well.

sampsonon1916d ago

he wasn't even nominated, unbelievable.

Traecy1916d ago

Oh it's believable but it's a shame.

Juusterey1916d ago

I really hate titles like this
"he reacts to THAT scene" "they wore THAT outfit" "She said THIS"

goldwyncq1916d ago

Say what you will about its story, but the performances were incredible — easily the best in any Kojima game.

AK911916d ago

I honestly think alot of people overrate the story complexity its surprisingly simple (especially considering who the game director is). Once you finish the game then rewatch all the cutscenes it all pretty much makes sense.

Chumdiddy1916d ago

It made sense and was fairly straightforward but still the weakest part of the game, IMO, and I like the game a lot.

It's just full of a lot of concepts and terminology that he clearly thought of over a long period of time and then shoehorned in.

People disagree but I think it's obvious that Kojima took many ideas and terms from music he liked (so much that he used the songs in the game). For instance, to call an affliction "DOOMS" when that makes no real sense outside of it being a lyric in "Asylums For The Feeling". That may be the most blatant use but there are more when you go through the lyrics of the soundtrack.
I was a big fan of Low Roar before the game/trailers so I heard "Zero" about a thousand times and there are specific moments in the cutscenes where Kojima has a character speak a line of a song almost verbatim. Still, most here disagree so whatever lol

Also, there are a few classical storytelling mistakes (ala Chekhov's Gun). You don't have to obey them all but some are hard to cheat and keep a cohesive story going. I'd say that the story needed the logs and emails to patch things together that the scenes poorly convey or don't really try to convey at all.

But the story absolutely makes sense. Those saying it doesn't didn't play the game for more than a few hours, if at all.

AK911916d ago

@Chumdiddy I kind of both agree and disagree with you there whilst the overarching story didn't mean much to me it was the individual character arcs that spoke to me profoundly (Particularly with Cliff and his BB).

That's been the story with me in all Kojima games I never cared about the political commentary or technical mumbo jumbo its the personal character stories and relationships between characters that always get me invested. So I agree the story aspect is not perfect and has faults but I also disagree that the story is the weakest aspect of the game due to my love at how Kojima tells the stories of each of his characters starting from MGS1.

Muzikguy1916d ago

@Chumdiddy

I get what you're saying but honestly I never over analyze games like that. For me it ruins them. Who cares where he got his ideas from. People can have their imagination sparked from anything.

Chumdiddy1915d ago (Edited 1915d ago )

@AK91
@Muzikguy

Solid replies and don't disagree with much of anything.

Muzikguy, I actually pay attention as much as I do *because* of how much I love Kojima. Otherwise I just enjoy a game for what it is but his stuff has always blown me away so I like to dive in a bit more.
MGS1 literally changed my life.

AK91, oddly enough I get into the political intrigue and alternate history stuff of MGS. I don't mind convoluted at all if it makes sense and/or is enjoyable.

All that said (here and my first reply), I REALLY like Death Stranding. I don't believe in perfect scores (no 10/10) and my score for DS is a. 8.5/10
For me that's very high. The gameplay was terrific and I really enjoyed the idea of the terrain itself being your opponent, at all times.

The story itself isn't bad but the worst part about the game, IMO. That's rare for a Kojima game as his stories may be convoluted but they're usually still terrific. The story of DS is fine but a bit disjointed and feels a bit crammed together. HOW he got his ideas doesn't matter to me but realizing many of them came from the songs in the game distracted me a bit. Both impressive and a bit lazy feeling as, again, he didn't even change the wording in some spots. But design? Maybe. Likely even. Just not his best work in a lifetime full of absolute gems.

Still great! Just below the level he's set for himself with past work...if anyone can call a 8.5/10 "not as good as my usual work" haha

Bungie at that time became the most wonderful bunch of hypocrites in the gaming industry. Knowing this now, gosh the entitlement they felt was out of this world.

Nothing like buying yourself from Microsoft because you don't want to be the Halo Studio anymore, and the FIRST THING you do is sign your next IP over to Activision, for a DECADE, while they are in the middle of ousting the heads of Infinity Ward so they can exert even more control over COD while screwing out the devs at IW...

Should've come as no surprise then that Activision gutted the content of Destiny 1 before launch and was a horrible partner through Destiny 2, until history repeated itself and Bungie had to split from Activision only to wind up in the arms of another major conglomerate that also doesn't know how to handle these unmanageable devs.

Profchaos6d ago

Tti their credit they praised the technical abilities of 343 and I remember at the time thinking halo 4 was a huge graphical leap above reach everything else was rubbish when I actually got to play it but there was no doubt it looked good for the 360 and is probably the best looking game on the system.

But ultimately I think bungie has always had a leadership problem and going independent ultimately proved this it's only getting worse with studio heads being outed by Sony for abuse allegations seems like all bungies past success has been in spite of management not because of it.

But really I think the bungie we have today is not the same one we had in that Xbox era of Bungie

PhillyDonJawn6d ago

I liked the artstyle change. For the most part. Something looked worse but most of everything else looked better. Weapons and vehicles for sure. The wraith come to my mind instantly.
And how can they get mad when the bungie changed it with Halo Reach?

Sciurus_vulgaris5d ago

I know a lot of people dislike Halo 4’s arts style, but there’s thing about it I like and dislike. Personally, the Halo 4 design of Master Chief’s armour is my favourite depiction of the character’s armour.

Dying Light: The Beast – interview with Tymon Smektala (‘Dying Light’ Franchise Director)

An interview with Tymon Smektala (Franchise Director, Dying Light) where I get to ask him as to how Techland was impacted by its DLC story leaks, how the studio has changed after being acquired by Tencent, where he sees the Dying Light franchise going in future, and how he's been able to maintain enthusiasm for the Dying Light franchise since he joined Techland 10-odd years ago. Enjoy!
