And now all the incessant bitching and moaning over the limited Pokedex is completely irrelevant. Congrats.

rolando1231593d ago

There is always going to be bitching about that. Game Freak is only adding like 200 more

xHeavYx1593d ago (Edited 1593d ago )

It's a paid expansion to add Pokemon that already exist. Just as many predicted before. Nintendo fans just cover their ears. And it's not even a $15 or maybe $20, you have to pay $30 for each.

-Foxtrot1593d ago

Keep white knighting them

This is why we’ll never get the big Pokemon game we’ve all dreamt of...

Tross1593d ago (Edited 1593d ago )

Yeah...what are the odds we will be seeing more of these expansions? GF clearly knows what they're doing here.

Bruh1593d ago

@xHeavy

You don't need to buy the expansions to get the 200 new Pokemon. You can get them traded to you or imported via Pokemon Home, just not catchable in the game without the pass

xHeavYx1593d ago

@Bruh
Yeah, I'm gonna trade 200 Pokemon, that's not gonna take any time, especially since I don't know anyone else who's getting the expansion and I don't play Pokemon go, and you'll probably have to pay for home.

people spoke what they wanted and they listened.

good call if you ask me. great communication with fans of your game is key and nintendo showed it this time. respect.

rolando1231593d ago

Yeah it was a great move! And you don't need to even buy the expansion to get access to the new Pokemon. You can just trade with others

Sono4211592d ago (Edited 1592d ago )

The apologists are so sad. How is this listening? This was so clearly planned.

It is a PROVEN FACT they are using the EXACT SAME MODELS AND ANIMATIONS for ALL old Pokemon.
So how is them INTENTIONALLY holding back Pokemon to be sold as DLC later a good thing? Not to mention they said they held Pokemon back to create higher quality animations (Didn't happen) AND for balancing.... well now they're coming back, and we can confirm BOTH of those reasons to be lies.... but now that we see this... we know the real reason, to sell them as DLC.

I will say there is a good amount of content in this DLC though... like seriously, it looks like it's going to be over half of what the original game had in it, but that begs the question, if they can make about half of what the original game had to offer in less than a year... WHAT HAVE THEY BEEN DOING?!

Either they CAN make a lot of content in a very short amount of time.... OR they intentionally held back content to sell it as DLC, and based on the 100% proven fact that they withheld old Pokemon to be sold as DLC, I would say that is what's happening here as well. FINALLY I can get everything they put in the new games for the low low price of $180! Wow thank you so much Nintendo/Gamefreak.

Honestly this fanbase just loves to be milked and screwed over.

Steveoreno11593d ago (Edited 1593d ago )

They didn't listen to fans. This was the plan from the get go. Why? $

SpeedDemon1593d ago

How so? The original complaint was that the game didn't support all the Pokemon and people couldn't transfer their unsupported Pokemon from their previous games, this will add 200 more Pokemon to the supported list and I assume allow these Pokemon to be transferred with or without the dlc.

rolando1231593d ago

I'm sure doing an expansion wasn't a plan at first

monkey6021593d ago

Do you really think this is the end of that fiasco? Now theres a whole other can of worms opened because its paid DLC haha

rolando1231593d ago

pokemon fanbase is so terrible

Domestupidname1593d ago

No, there's going to be plenty more incessant bitching and moaning as well as entitled jerks expecting developers to deliver 800+ Pokemon in a game for the same price that a normal game costs to develop. The expansions are $30 for both together, it adds 200 Pokemon to the Pokedex, and you get new areas and new content probably on the level of a new game.

But nobody's happy because "it costs money" while in the same breath they'll preach that devs don't get paid enough. There's no way to win because the entire "fandom" on this site is solely looking to bitch and moan. There's no way to make them happy, and they should just be ignored.

-Foxtrot1593d ago (Edited 1593d ago )

Urm how is this good

It’s basically paid DLC for the packing content in the main game

You can trade new Pokemon sure but if you can’t do that for whatever reason then you’ll need to get the expansions for them to start popping up

It’s like a Ubisoft move

Tross1593d ago

Well...people told a large corporation they want more content in their game. Said large corporation realizes the potential for profit and fulfills the request...with the added caveat that it will be through paid DLC. On the plus side, we may eventually have the full National Dex in the games. On the other hand though, there will probably be a slew of DLC packs, all of which are paid, and which as a whole may end up costing more than the base game when all is said and done.

Bruh1593d ago

Or you can idk like every other generation, import them from a previous game, which Pokemon Home is going to allow you to do even with games dating back to X and Y

SpeedDemon1593d ago (Edited 1593d ago )

It comes out in June, thats 7 months after the games released... how is that packing content from the main game?

BrainSyphoned1593d ago

“New” well new to the game at least just like a used vehicle is new to me.

Xaevi1593d ago

"it's a game made for kids" is usually the excuse given. I guess kids are gonna pay 30 bucks for DLC. I think it's a pass from me. Also what a bunch of hypocrites. They said no Pokemon will be added in afterwards and now they're charging 30 for added Pokemon, ridiculous. That ontop of Pokemon Home still possibly being a PAID service. This series is officially dead for me

Tross1593d ago

Well, maybe we will bump into each other while playing Temtem.

AirJohnston1593d ago

I swear Pokémon fans are just as bad as Star Wars fans

Bruh1593d ago

So much misinformation....jeez N4G

1. You DO NOT need to buy the DLC to use the 200 new Pokemon being added, these can be traded to you or you can import them from saves that support Pokemon Home

2. The DLC is primarily for being able to catch the new Pokemon in the wild and also for new areas and stories

3. New legendaries, yes are linked to the DLC, however, this isn't anything new in Pokemon

AnotherGamer1593d ago

You still need to pay for Home subscription though.

Y_51501593d ago

They did not discuss the pricing as of yet. Just a February release date.

same
sword and violet just made me tired of the current format.

they rly traded a cohesive story and Lore for open region.

ZeekQuattro329d ago

As much as a fan of Pokemon I never was one to buy every new gen or spin off or remake. I bought Red & Blue. Played Ruby for a few gyms on PC. Played a bit of Fire Red again on PC but didn't buy a new entry until Black. After that I bought X and Moon. Then Let's Go Evee and Sword. Lastly I bought Violet. So it's hard for me to burned out on Pokemon.

franwex329d ago

Stopped caring after Gen 3 to be honest.

Dudeson329d ago

Same here, simply grew up and lost interest, but the nostalgia filter still hits for things like the old pokemon crystal.

FinalFantasyFanatic328d ago

It was Gen 2 for me, I just can't keep up with all the new generations of Pokemon they add in, I'm keen to jump into Violet/Scarlett though to see what's new.

got_dam329d ago

I always enjoyed these game until the newest ones. The open world is sooooo bland. I missed walking into some random house and getting a cool trade opportunity. Hell, I miss jut walking into buildings. There are not a lot of interior spaces in violet. And a motorcycle is not a pokemon. I don't care how mythic or whatever it is.

Because it’s an actual good game, gameplay wise. If we could get these mechanics on an actual updated Nintendo machine then it would’ve done even better.

-Foxtrot492d ago

Not really

It’s buggy, shallow compared to what we could have had in a logical generation jump and just doesn’t seem to hit what this franchise could do if it was made by a competent developer

It sold on the name because suckers eat that shit up

Inverno492d ago

Didn't take me long to realize that if you strip the open world it's pretty short. I will say that they definitely had better ideas this time around, but this is what we should've gotten at the start of the gen. If they were instead given the chance to skip a yearly release or two and work off what they made here they'd have something really good. Hopefully that Feb update fixes the performance issues so I can finish it.

gold_drake492d ago

i agree.

the game is rly bland and i had so many bugs it was crazy, like how does that even happen with a franchise like this ha.

Chard491d ago

So you played it after all? Does that make you a sucker?

Rutaprkl491d ago (Edited 491d ago )

I personally liked Sword/Shield more on launch compared to SV

gleepot491d ago

I love pokemon, but the games are starting to feel like they were made by an indie team in 1 year with no money and no QA

For being the most financially successful franchise ever, you'd think they could spend time and resources making an extremely polished experience.

Making Pokémon 3D Was A Mistake

Pokémon’s shift to 3D was a big mistake, as the series’ roots in 2D design make it difficult to transfer important game mechanics into a 3D overworld.

why do other games pull off 3D monster collecting JRPG games just fine? Look at Jade Cocoon and Shin Megami Tensei for examples.

FallenAngel1984522d ago

Answer should be obvious.

No other videogame franchise is as merchandise driven as Pokémon
