Nah, sure it's a meaty RPG, but it's arguably one of the worst in the series, and honestly from day 1 ive hated how little creativity and variety the world really has. Made even worse by others making better examples of open world map design on similar and inferior hardware. There's no excuse for how bland that map is, and for all the features stripped from previous entries to the series.

Segata2027d ago

It's not a meaty RPG. It's pretty basic and streamlined for a series that used to be a meaty RPG series.

isarai2027d ago

I mean meaty in the sense that there are a ton of quests

Gaming1012027d ago

So what's a better RPG done on similar or inferior hardware? I mean Witcher 3 is better but of course it is, it came out many years after on way better hardware.

isarai2027d ago

Never said "better RPG" i said "better examples of open world map design" and examples some being GTA V, RDR, Xenoblade Chronicles X, And Zelda BotW. All have a ton more character, variety, and are littered with more interesting landmarks and horizons. It's damn easy in any of those to know EXACTLY where you are at any given time by simply looking around, whereas in Skyrim 90% of everything looks the same and lacks any real extravagance, ironic given its supposed to be a fantasy game.

GTA5 is likely the Game Of The Decade.

Mr Marvel2027d ago

If you take sales into account maybe, but the actual game is pretty boring after a while (not as boring as RDR2 though).
GTAs have just never really hit the mark since Vice City imo, while IV & V take themselves waaaay too seriously.

on_line_forever2027d ago

I can't play this game it has the worse gameplay

Always thought elder scrolls games as the fast food franchise of RPGs just like how call of duty is the fast food franchise of FPS

I mean, if sales are any indication then McDonald's really has been the food of...a number of decades.

Standards of what GOTD have really fallen if Skyrim is even considered for the award. I'm surprised it took until Fallout 76 for people to wake up and realise how bad Bethesda are at making games when the problems were there the whole time before F76 was even a thing.

MS could compress their games on disc

raWfodog46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

Skyrim is still my favorite ES game. I’m playing through it again right now since I never finished it.

jznrpg36d ago

Morrowind is by far my favorite. But I’m getting old and played Daggerfall Morrowind and Oblivion before Skyrim

ActualWhiteMan46d ago

Yeah totally. Definitely won’t be hacking it Nintendo 🤞🏻

Fallout and Skyrim show us that talented developers make great games when you leave them alone

That judicious lack of oversight permeated everything in Bethesda's RPGs, in a positive fashion.

I much prefer a left alone Obsidian and Larian Studios. Bethesda's formula has grown old for me.

anast73d ago

Larian hit another level with DOS:2 and then took it even further with BG3. They do high quality work.

Skyrim was a letdown compared to previous games and so was Fallout 4

Kosic73d ago

I agree, I found it an interesting game. But nowhere near worth the hype (unless you include mods)

dmonee74d ago

Skyrim blew my mind when it released. That game took me to the gaming, promisedland. Going back to it when it was updated for the PS5, it felt slightly rough around the edges, but great for its time

TheColbertinator73d ago

We should leave Obsidian alone. Bethesda on the other hand should be kept under constant psychiatric observation.

anast73d ago

Skyrim feels like the game was made in a hurry with a disorganized team.
