So every ign gave it a 9 but the USA one

Neonridr2005d ago

maybe the person who actually played the game didn't enjoy it as much. I mean do we honestly expect everyone to feel the same way? We saw the odd bad review for Breath of the Wild, The Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc.

I just don't worry about a score anyways, I mean I could care less what someone else thinks of a game, only whether or not I enjoyed it.

Brave_Losers_Unite2005d ago

Sony fans on here think that everyone has to have the same mindset as them.

Neonridr2005d ago (Edited 2005d ago )

@Brave_Losers_Unite - I just don't understand how if someone has a differing opinion they must automatically be trolling or it be wrong. I mean I am sure there is a game that OP really likes that I might think is shit. Does that mean either of us are wrong? No, certainly not.

I don't get the reasons to automatically defend this game. Reviews are always subjective to the person reviewing the game and don't automatically mean they will fall in line with your own personal views or beliefs. Besides, most gaming sites have given very favorable scores for this game. So just enjoy it and move on.

2pacalypsenow2005d ago (Edited 2005d ago )

@Brave_Losers_Unite

Please, people get sacrificed here for saying they find Breath of the Wild or the Witcher 3 boring games.

Ratchet752005d ago

And yet here you are commenting on an article about the game score.
Lol

EmperorDalek2005d ago

@2pacalypsenow - Witcher 3 maybe, but I have no idea where you get that impression with Zelda, it seems like plenty of people take the time to bash it whenever an opportunity arises.

Try saying anything negative about something like God of War, and you can almost hear someone sharpening their pitchfork collection.

Neonridr2005d ago

@Ratchet75 - I was replying to someone who was worried about one person's review score.

-Foxtrot2005d ago

@Brave_Losers_Unite

Oh get off it

It’s not a Sony fans thing, after MGSV where the reviews didn’t really reflect the game everyone was skeptical

It’s more die hard Kojima fans of anything

Kosic2005d ago

Tbh I agree, I usually keep an eye on review scores for games I want, if the average is 7+ it'll be a worth while game, 5 could be decent but wait for a price drop and an 8.5/9+ is go buy it.

S2Killinit2005d ago (Edited 2005d ago )

IGN has been anti sony since i can remember. Check out their video section under PlayStation, then Xbox, and compare the tone of the videos. You will see what im talking about.

2005d ago
yoshatabi2005d ago

Well breath of the wild was trash soooo

SyntheticForm2005d ago

Imagine a person actually not being able to understand that people are different, enjoy different things, and react differently to experiences. I'll never believe some people can't grasp this. I think everyone understands this.

They get it - they just don't care. They're so attached to a brand, developer, or an idea that even though they get the concept of 'different strokes' they simply don't care. Disagreement or dissent actually hurts their feelings and I mean that literally. Their feelings are hurt when you disagree, so they become defensive, aggressive, agitated, etc when there's a disagreement.

I don't know quite how people come to be this way, but I think it builds over time. People aren't like this from birth. Not most people anyway.

Neonridr2005d ago

@Ciporta1985 - it's ok to not like BOTW. I really liked the game, but there were things I didn't like and certainly areas I would love them to improve on for the sequel.

rainslacker2005d ago (Edited 2005d ago )

It's not uncommon to see this between IGN main site, and their sister sites in other countries. In fact, it's usually the case that games that rate lower on their main site tend to get decent reviews on their international sites.

@Emporer

I've said bad stuff about God of War in a discussion about what critiques I had about it. But that discussion also discussed what I liked about it at the same time.

There are ways to discuss the good and the bad without having people pull out their pitchforks.

When people get mad is when people only focus on the negative, and then relentlessly convey that opinion at every opportunity. It's exacerbated when it comes from those who always have negative things to say about a console makers games. Something that's just as bad as those who can't talk about the criticisms a game may have, and use that as a means to bring down other games....which is why I have spent more time saying what I found wrong with BOTW, despite the fact I think it's a good game. that contention was mostly brought on by a single user, who used it as a way to attack H:ZD when they obviously were being a fan boy.

Even now, most of the people talking bad about this game are using confirmation bias to say why it's a bad game, but they haven't even played the game yet. It was worse with Days Gone, but the difference there is that there weren't as many good reviews, but it didn't stop people from clinging onto the few low scores that did exist while having blinders to anything else.

So, if people seem antagonized by people constantly bringing a game down, it's probably because there are those who keep bringing games down for ulterior motives.

RedDevils2005d ago

@brave that's why you are a looser.

ianyoung32004d ago (Edited 2004d ago )

@Brave_Losers_Unite One thing the gaming community should work on is not painting all fans as the same. Anecdotal evidence of a small percentage of Sony's player base being unreasonable does not mean that Sony fans in general think everyone has to have the same mindset. Each and every console has fans that can be pretty rigid in their perspective but that does not and should not speak for the general player base.

Zarock2004d ago

The Breath of the Wild “odd” review was the only non paid review.

yeah gamers here see to have ADD.

ilikestuff2005d ago

So just like the people going anywhere to find good scores, we gots people going anywhere to find good scores? I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone bring other ign scores here for any reason, I guess ya gotta find one you agree with? Wait until it comes out, get it, play it and see which ign y’all agree with. That seems like the best bet right? This game might not be the goty y’all were hoping for. Who cares? The world keeps turning

RememberThe3572005d ago

Or it might be the GOTY they were hoping for. Why does a hand full of bad reviews sour an entire game for folks. I've never played a game that didn't have problems. Every one of my favorite games, I could rip apart. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the hell outta them and play them til I burn out. It's all about your taste and it always is. If you love something enjoy it, if not move on.

rainslacker2005d ago (Edited 2005d ago )

IGN's international sites get posted on here along with the main site for every major game. They don't always get as much attention, but often for exclusive titles, they are rated higher than IGN proper rates games at.

IGN's main site I don't really take seriously anymore, because their review standards seem to be all over the place, and there is absolutely no consistency to what they score well, and what they count off for. Since I haven't played the game, I can't say either one is right at the moment, but I know that IGN's international sites seem a lot less jaded when it comes to games, where IGN seems to have this mentality that they need to be harsh on games for the stupidest reasons....except when they overlook those reasons for random purposes.

Even if IGN rated this game highly, I wouldn't really give it much credence. Doesn't really matter the system, as their review scores seem random for all platforms.

The US IGN review came from their Canada studio. Surprised their top reviewers werent on it

"So every ign gave it a 9 but the USA one"

Because it's not a dude bro shooter. :D Probably IGN in other regions have a different taste. :D

SyntheticForm2005d ago

And that's a big deal because?

fonger082005d ago

I think any one honest with themselves knew this was going to be a divisive game. Kojima is an artist, and like many artists the taste is subjective. Judging by many the reviews it would seem that would be the case. Hopefully though it does well, Kojima is a rarity in an industry full of corporate mentality games, and even though this game isn’t for me, I hope it’s successful enough that he is still able to develop his style of games still in the future.

Salooh2005d ago (Edited 2005d ago )

A professional reviewer needs to have some standards that the readers can recognize. Otherwise, why would i trust his opinion ? Opinion without standards, without personality, why would i read his review or accept his feedback or respect his opinion ?

As someone who work in a company, as a journalist and a reviewer, you must build your name, you must show you fairness and your standards alongside your own opinion. If all of that is scratched and all you offer is your opinion than why the hell would i take you seriously.

Sadly, reviews these days are trash and without any standards. IGN needs to enforce some standards if these reviewers doesn't care about being fair. 3/10 is not acceptable, 6.5 I can understand if the review is fair and the standards of the reviewer is consistent to his other reviews, but if it is just an opinion than it is not acceptable, 3/10 it hint that the game is broken ( story or gameplay wise ) so a score like that is not an opinion, it shows a flaw in the reviewer.

fonger082005d ago

Reviewing games is a different than reviewing just about any other form of entertainment because of it being so interactive. Reviewing the pleasure or discomfort of that interactive piece will always be subjective regardless of the reviewers journalistic capabilities. Now should reviewers who don’t like specific genres of games be reviewing those types of games, probably not as you will have an inherent bias. I personally watched the US IGN review and didn’t find anything “trollish” about it. And the uniqueness of this specific game and how really there wasn’t much information on it going in, it’s hard for me to blame anyone reviewing that may not have liked it with any sort of bias going in... unless they don’t Kojima or something like that. All that being said, it’s fairly easy to me to pick out trollish reviews, specifically where they pick out flaws to a game that shouldn’t have any impact of the core enjoyment of the game.

rainslacker2005d ago

Exactly this. Reviewers nowadays think that people are tuning in solely for their opinion, and their egos take precedence over objective review. The idea that objective analysis based on subjective viewpoints is lost on so many reviewers that it's made the review system completely useless nowadays. Sadly, there are still many who use the reviews to decide if they should buy a game, and while I'm not one to say that Metacritic is the best place to get an idea of the score of a game, it's about the best you can get nowadays to find the base score of most games, because reviews are all over the place, but meta tends to average them out close to reality.

I could count the number of game reviewers I respect on a single hand. The rest are no name people who lack any kind of editorial standard. The one's I respect are those that forage their own way on their own channels, and maybe one on a website. I probably couldn't name half of those people off the top of my head though. But the ones I respect are those that can review objectively, and present the material in a way that's relevant to me, for me to decide what's important to me, and they are consistent in the way they review games.

telekineticmantis2005d ago

I saw footage of the roads/highways, and structures you can build, I don't know what it takes to get enoigh material to build them, but what a payoff.

waverider2005d ago

its really cool. Without spoiling to much your experience. Very easy to do. More, building stuff is one of thing that make us (gamer) all connected to the game. You can build a bridge that i will use in my game and i can put a like for what you did, that will help you!!!!

The connection to other gamers in Death Stranding is just crazy cool.

TheColbertinator2005d ago

What unusual reviews for the game

Father__Merrin2005d ago

It's a strange game and it's clear some ppl love it and some hate it. I hope it does well on ps4 and its likely get a release on ps5

Got the Director's Cut platinum a couple of hours ago.
Ready for DS2 now.

Storm2328d ago

I have been slowly working my way though this game for months. I keep playing other games in between but I want to finish it before DS2.

Knushwood Butt28d ago

I ended up with over 140 hours on it, but I wasn't exactly rushing. Ended up seeing to it that all roads were rebuilt too.
There are still a few Half Life missions left that I think I'll do.

Man I love this game. Platinumed it and played through it a 2nd time just for fun. I'm day 1 with bells on for the sequel

Video Games Proud To Not Be For Everyone

If you make something for everyone, you please no one.

mkis00786d ago

I mean I can do without nintendo games if given the choice. They are not nearly as mature rated as the average.

Yui_Suzumiya86d ago (Edited 86d ago )

Yeah but I use my Switch OLED primarily for anime booba style games (visual novels and JRPG's) and ultra violent FPS's. Far from kid friendly, lol

JohnBLZ85d ago

The problem with that line of though is that games have never been as much "for everyone" as in 2025.
The only thing that's not for everyone in gaming lately is the gatekeeping. Devs will try to appeal to as many people as they can, but if you dare have your own tastes and prefer something a bit more obscure, then you have "L takes" because at the moment, popular opinion equals right opinion.
So devs should simply own the fact they water down their games and go Hollywood to please everybody. Then indies will go back to being trendsetters that are different from AAAs, instead of being roguelike and gacha copycats.

86d ago
JohnBLZ85d ago

Okay, but "games I'm not meant to love" means I won't play them.
Games are for fun. They're their own art, it's a disservice to reduce them to interactive stories. You can focus on making your audience entertained on a positive way and still stand out.

jznrpg85d ago

No game is for everyone. Some games are more mainstream or casual friendly but there is always someone who won’t like it. Same with anything else
