Having spent enough time around people from various countries and cultures, I think it's ignorant to dismiss the comeuppance of others just because you're not a part of that group. In case you forgot about things in American history like Tulsa, Oklahoma and the civil rights movement, there are discriminatory barriers to African American success, including but not limited to education, gentrification, and people just plain old avoidance of supporting their businesses. They're not the only group affected, but it is certainly disproportionate.

Color doesn't need to be the most important aspect of this news, but it's an accomplishment worth celebrating because, if we're being honest, the American black community's success and entrepreneurship isn't exactly something that sits well with everyone.

You don't have to care, but you don't have to be a detractor either.

Lower quality is generally a strong indication of limited resources. One can make the argument that they can crowdsource more, but even that's far less likely because the communities in which they operate are likely to have less ability to contribute due to constraints around socioeconomic status. It's better than it was in the past, but there are definitely still problems that people like to pretend don't exist.

As for price competitiveness, in my experience, when black owned businesses operate in affluent neighborhoods and do things like sell organic produce, people would rather shop at Whole Foods than support local business. Harlem has similar problems where mom and pop shops are fairly priced and are still unsustainable due to gentrification creating demand for franchises like Starbucks, McDonald's, and KFC.

So again, when I see entrepreneurship like this from African Americans, it makes me happy. I look forward to a day when it is no longer a big deal and is a typical occurrence. But for now, it is commendable. And if you don't care, I am cool with that.

I'm not telling anyone that they need to care, but likewise, those who don't care don't need to belittle this kind of progress by complaining that EvErYtHiNg Is AbOuT rAcE. Skip the piece and move on if it doesn't matter to you. Simple as that.
