5 Reasons Why You Should Go Back And Play The Criminally Underrated Quantum Break

KeenGamer: ''Quantum Break was not all that well received at launch. Collateral damage from the Xbox One's reveal and the game's TV tie-in proved to be detrimental. However, revisiting the game years after the fact shows a game that you should not miss this current generation.''

Freeze dirtbag!! You're under arrest, for under estimating Quantum Break!!

starchild1797d ago

I still think Quantum Break was great. I had a lot of fun with it. I really didn't understand the criticisms it got for the optional TV show segments. I thought the idea was neat. My friend and I had always talked about how it would be cool to be able to enjoy the same fictional world through different media. I found Quantum Break refreshing and original compared to the same old approach we usually get in games.

Quantum Break didn't quite live up to level of Alan Wake, which was one of my favorite games of last generation, but it was unique and still very enjoyable.

Flewid6381796d ago (Edited 1796d ago )

I would agree that PC players were more akin to it than the Xbox crowd (I played it on PC), but as someone games 99.9% on PS, I still feel like it would've been better received as a PS4 game.

The negative comments were probably from fanboys, but as a PS loyalist myself, I can say many PS games feel like Quantum Break. I'm glad I played it fully maxed on PC, but its a shame that it doesnt get the attention it deserves. I still think it was on the wrong platform...at least console wise.

Kornholic1796d ago

The gameplay aspect of Quantum Break was too generic and simply not fun.

ThaGreatOakley1797d ago

Quantum Break didn't ever really get a chance but it's a good game

rainslacker1797d ago

It released. It had all the exclusive hype that fan boys give these things. MS gave it a huge marketing budget, and it was front and center of all it's ad campaigns for the year. It sold well enough.

What more chance does it need?

The reviews were generally saying it was a good game. Not great, but good. It was rated pretty much what I'd say the game was, and that rating is far from "criminally underrated". Game is 77 on meta. Just a few shy of 80. 7.5-8 is what I'd rate the game at myself.

Mystogan1797d ago

If this was a Sony game it would have been the best thing since sliced bread.

Al_Simmons1796d ago

That's because had sony did it. The turnout would've been better

gangsta_red1797d ago

Well it is a 77 on metacritic....that has to count for something as I'm told.

AspiringProGenji1797d ago

It should, but the game was not supported enough by xbox fans to show is the game has any legs. Devs should have invested more in gameplay than some awkward unnecessary TV show

ThaGreatOakley1797d ago

What was wrong with the gameplay that it required more investment? The TV show was actually very well produced too and tied in to the game nicely

AspiringProGenji1797d ago (Edited 1797d ago )

The gameplay was fine but there was still untapped potential. I even remember the devs hyping up “dinosaurs’” on Twitter, but I guess they were just hyping up the time travel mechanic. And about that, I believe they shoehorned that mechanic too much at times for the simplest task during gameplay (go to the past to climb over a dumbster instead of just pulling it out?), and imo that takes away from the uniqueness of that mechanic

The show had good production but it was boring. Being pulled out of the game to watch Iceman was unnecessary. Should have better kept that in the game. That novelty wore off fast

And, in game adds was a big No No.

gangsta_red1797d ago

The gameplay was fine and the it got a lot more good reviews then negative.

The game was definitely supported enough by Xbox fans.

Not to mention it's a 77 on metacritic

RememberThe3571797d ago

I hated the TV show parts. I HATED them. Wouldn't put myself through the third one and stopped playing. Sold my Xbone soon after too. I really think Control is taking what QB was trying to do and doing it better. Really looking forward to Control.

@blackfalcon If the game was supported enough why wasn't there another? MS doesn't want successful franchises?

Dragonscale1796d ago

The tv show part was cringe worthy, 30 mins long episodes and unskippable.

Kribwalker1797d ago

72% were positive reviews as well. Seems like a few troll reviews dropped it down, or so i’m told

Razzer1797d ago (Edited 1797d ago )

It received a good metacritic score overall and it seems a lot Xbox fans enjoyed the game despite a handfull of extreme lowball reviews. That means a lot more than finding all the commonalities in those negative reviews and promoting them above the positives. Don't you agree?

King_Noctis1796d ago

Anything from 70% to 80% is “underrated” in this part and is caused by “troll and sjw reviewers”.

Razzer1796d ago

You said 70-80 meant a bad game before.

"I think we should call it what it is. A bad game. "

MadLad1797d ago

I thought it was great. Was as good as their Alan Wake or Max Payne offerings, but still a fantastic game with strong story and writing.

mcstorm1797d ago

Yeah I agree. Not quite an Alan wake or Max Payne but a very good game with some nice tec and story telling. It was also nice for them to to try something different to all other games. It also sounds like it's set them up nicely for the new IP we have coming soon.

On a side note don't microsoft own the AW rights and if so I do wonder if we will ever see another one as I think it could work as an open world game on next gen.

MadLad1797d ago

If Control does well, I expect to see MS come back to them and offer a sequel to either Alan Wake or QB.

Hell, seeing their latest buyouts, they may make another attempt at bringing in Remedy as a 1st party.

Kavorklestein1797d ago (Edited 1797d ago )

Can't help but agree with this article. I personally love Quantum Break, and never understood how it was so poorly received by some.
I think most people have/had their own ideas or expectations for how time travel would work in their minds and didn't delve into the lore of the actual game enough. I guess because some aspects of the sci-fi lore weren't as in your face, I guess some people didn't like it.
Yet other parts were an actual CHOICE where you choose how the characters react or what they decide. Pretty unique game to this day, and still can't manage to beat the final boss on hard.

The game is definitely better than the Anti-MS/Xbox smearing this game seems to have received.
The saddest part is people listened to mixed reviews instead of giving it a shot. Hardly anyone bought the game. I knew after playing Alan Wake this game would already be a bit different than the typical: *brutally slaughter enemies/zombies/aliens and kill the evil old man/mad scientist/nazi/aliens/zombies*
game formula that would have helped Alan Wake (and Quantum Break) sell more copies, or better fit modern gaming cliché/stereotypes.
But I'm actually glad the game does it's own thing instead. And IMO, the TV parts are actually good enough to warrant it being in the game.
I bought this on Launch Day at full price, and still like going back to it. It is DEFINTELY worth trying for cheap/free on gamepass, or buying cheap during the xbox sales going on thru the year.

Flewid6381797d ago

It was delivered to the wrong audience. Quantum Break is more of a PlayStation experience. Xbox and PC players generally don't like those type of games.

I thought it was masterclass, but I understand why it didn't do well. Wrong platform at the end of the day.

starchild1797d ago

I'm a PC gamer and I played the game on PC and I loved it. It seems to have been received pretty well on PC aside from first being restricted to the Windows store. The reviews on Steam are 'Very Positive'. From what I remember it was mostly Playstation fans that were being overly negative about it.

Single A games and live service games. Those make sense

S2Killinit53d ago

None of it makes sense. But its happening.

Ps5conehead53d ago

That’s up to Microsoft they want return on there investment. From buying up those publishers. That’s what there in business for. And they made a mistake putting day one exclusive on game pass. So now Microsoft wants to profit any way they can.its called buisness . Just like Sony putting games on pc a year are two after ps5 launch.
So if they can make money off PlayStation and Nintendo. They will do that. And I bet soon real soon they will release some aaa exclusives .and I bet one day it will be same day release

TheEroica52d ago

Sony gamers begging for Xbox games.... Who would've thunk it?

BISHOP-BRASIL52d ago

Yeah, because random site off the internet represents all Sony gamers, they have the letter of attorney and all...

S2Killinit52d ago

Lol what a spin. You dizzy?

AsunaYuukiTheFlash52d ago (Edited 52d ago )

We don’t care about shovelwares. Get that junk out of PS5

StormSnooper52d ago

More like MS begging to put their games on PlayStation.

TheEroica51d ago

Keep begging Sony gamers!

Friendlygamer53d ago

Some of these seem to be exclusive for lack of enthusiasm of the publisher rather than because of deals. A lot of cool indies skip ps for some reason like katana zero, el paso, elsewhere and gunbrela

S2Killinit53d ago

Even more indies skip xbox. We know that right?

Friendlygamer53d ago

Quality over quantity, Microsoft got some really interesting and curated niche games on their machines, maybe in part because of gamepass

S2Killinit52d ago

Quality and MS are not things you bring up in same sentence.

shinoff218352d ago (Edited 52d ago )

Alot of indies skip xbox to. It goes round and round. Personally I think your off base on that but no need to have the argument.

Friendlygamer52d ago

Between katana zero, valheim, Battletech, el passo... I don't feel off base. maybe ps got a million of light novel games that will never release on Xbox but like I've said, I'm talking about niche games highlights, the 10%.

Heck, it's probably thanks to Microsoft that the s.t.a.l.k.e.r games came to console ps included, meanwhile Sony backwards compatibility continues to be extremely anemic.

And I'm sure most ps5 users are happy to ignore these games and just play wathever new 3rd person action game is trending but it's cool that Microsoft gives some love to smaller audiences and software preservation

shinoff218352d ago

Again your off base just to be snide. All it's showing though is your ignorance.

One light novels wtf is that even. Ps has plenty of pretty damn good indies.

Speaking of indies and ms being responsible. You know F.I.S.T. of course you do alot of you guys just support gamepass. Well here's a history of Sony being responsible for helping indies. Look up the China project from Sony.

Lastly lol your ignorance showing again. Sony has plenty of games. Personally third person is better then first anyway but that's besides the point. Sony gets so many games that xbox doesn't get because yall don't support the games. Jrpgs being a great example. I personally am not into every Sony first party game. Alot of us aren't. On the other side you don't get to eat often so you gobble up everything. Me personally God of War not my cup, etc. For me I'm into jrpgs and ms just can't touch Sony on those. Again because the Xbox base doesn't support it. Devs dont wanna waste their time or money. Hit me up when falcom develops a game over there.

Speaking of third person narrative games. Aren't yall drooling over hellblade 2. The first one was Sony exclusive at one point. Another not my cup game. Showing we don't have to fall in line and agree we love everything Sony puts out. The facts are they sell though unlike elsewhere(not nintendo)

StormSnooper52d ago

You are same person as GamerRN, yes?

Abnor_Mal53d ago

They really think PlayStation fans would want to play Redfall? Pfft.

Personally nothing on that list would be any game I’d want to play.

TwoPicklesGood53d ago

I’d absolutely love Hellblade 2, Palworld, and Quantum Break on ps5 as I’m sure tons of others would too. There’s nothing wrong with wanting games from another console and its sad that people try to act like they aren’t interested in them.

shinoff218352d ago

While indont agree with the games. I agree with the point. Your not wrong.

DarXyde53d ago

Sunset Overdrive makes very good sense. Palworld might.

Don't know about the others. Hellblade II does make sense given the original launched on PS4 first. Quantum Break was a massive letdown for me. I absolutely hated the whole TV show thing and I don't think anyone should have to relive that on modern hardware.

Now that Remedy owns Control, it’s time to reclaim Quantum Break

Alan Wake 2 studio Remedy Entertainment has reclaimed the rights to Control, and now sci-fi hit Quantum Break deserves the same treatment.

Totally agree with that especially when Quantum Break has several references to Alan Wake and Alan Wake make allusions to QB.
I do believe that MS and Remedy can work things out and MS has usually been nice to devs and publishers regarding IP.

Obscure_Observer69d ago

They can't "reclaim" what was never theirs.

Petebloodyonion69d ago

I’m sure we can settle for purchase from MS the IP.

Lightning7769d ago

MS is not doin anything with it. Plus they're doing a multiverse of their own so Remedy needs the IP.

If MS wants to have exclusive let it be timed for 6 months then go to other platforms. MS seems to be, let's say, generous with some if their games as of late.

Or have QB2 be multiplat from the jump, put it on GP. Keeping QB2 as an exclusive is kinda weird these days.

Obscure_Observer68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

@Petebloodyonion

"I’m sure we can settle for purchase from MS the IP."

Good luck

@Lightning77

"MS is not doin anything with it."

Japan Studio is dead nd Sony isn´t doing anything with Bloodborne either! Yet I can 100% guarantee that there´s a far bigger demand for a sequel, remake or even a remaster for that game from both PS5 and PC gamers.

That been said, why don´t you ask Sony tol sell the IP to Fromsoftware now that according to rumors, they bought Elden Ring from Bandai?

ZwVw69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Reclaim? That would mean that they actually owned the ip at one point, which they never did (MS always has). Apples & oranges. Remedy always owned the Control ip (just not the publishing), as they have with Alan Wake.

About as likely as them getting the Max Payne rights from Rockstar.

mastershredder69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Sending you game to a publisher does not mean they get "rights to own it " unless that was part of the contract (monetary/ strategic reasons). 505 was the publisher they worked with to publish and distribute it, it dos not mean that 505 flat out "owned" anything, clearly they did have a special arrangement that made them open to limit their publishing rights. and so here we are and big whoop

Jingsing69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Yeah get Quantum Break PS5, only if you put it on disc with all the associated movie material.

isarai69d ago

I mean they got the Alan Wake IP back from MS, so I feel like they could get QB back as well

15 games on FIFTEEN pages? That's a NO from me.

Superliminal
Antichamber
Manifold Garden
Portal & Portal 2
The Stanley Parable
Monument Valley
Gorogoa
Thumper
Inscryption
Q.U.B.E. 2
Darq
Quantum Break
Perspective
Inside
The Swapper

IamTylerDurden1366d ago (Edited 366d ago )

I think Inscryption is the best game on that list. PT and Returnal i would offer. Returnal deserves a spot over some of the listed games. Especially after chapter 3. Maybe even Alice MR? Death Stranding? Kojima all together. To much smaller degree Dead Space. I'm spitballing.

I didn't play Thumper enough to see beyond the visual spectacle. Curious choice.

SullysCigar365d ago (Edited 365d ago )

I'd add FEAR and RE7 (when Ethan starts getting visions, especially in the boat) to that list.

Edit: and Here They Lie

Petebloodyonion365d ago

What no Eternal Darkness on the list?

BrainSyphoned364d ago

Only makes me think of gatcha loot crate game specifically built to play your mind into becoming an addict.
