I wonder when Project X Cloud will be ready for the masses. 'm ready to stream my Xbox Games on my phone when I'm traveling.

Eonjay2290d ago

There is a beta later this year.

bouzebbal2290d ago

Just release it on PS consoles already..
Maybe that can give vita a second life

81BX2290d ago

@bouzebbal
That would be awesome for gamers

Kingthrash3602290d ago

If ps now couldn't do it.....

luckytrouble2290d ago

I hope you don't expect anything even remotely functional. Game streaming requires a stable, high speed connection. Variable 4G speeds will not be even remotely fast or stable enough for a passable experience.

NarutoFox2290d ago

Facts. Gotta wait for 5G speeds

Sophisticated_Chap2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

We have to wait for millimeter wave, cancer causing, mind control 5G internet tech, which will give the masses latency free internet connectivity. Self driving cars will also require 5G.

luckytrouble2290d ago

Honestly, even with 5G, you might get high enough speeds to get decent streaming when close enough to a tower, but the big problem of speed consistency will never go away. Coverage nets for every major provider basically the world over has massive holes, and even when an area is actually covered, I'm sure everyone with a smartphone has experienced a time where within half a block they went from seemingly a full strength connection to speeds that make 3G seem fast. It's an inherent problem with cell phone service in that unless you are basically sitting on a tower, your speeds could dip and rise standing in the same spot due to carriers pulling all kinds of bs with peak usage time throttling and other crap.

Mobile game streaming will never be good, at least not with current or even next generation wireless technology. Passable in some places, but hardly desired. It will be a long time before I can recommend streaming on anything that doesn't have an Ethernet cable hooked into it with a connection that can maintain at least 40Mb/s (note that is megabits, not megabytes).

akbennyewu2290d ago

Ok you know best, got it.

Ratchet752290d ago

Especially if you re not 1m away from your modem.
Lol😂

frostypants2289d ago (Edited 2289d ago )

What do you mean? MS would NEVER overestimate the capabilities of the cloud............. /s

Streaming in the home on the same network would work though.

You can remote play from PS4 on iOS, Sony Android devices, and Vita, but PSNow is still limited to PC outside of PS4 ( https://www.playstation.com... ). I don't think you can remote play the PSNow games streamed to your PS4, even doing so would be one of the worst playing scenarios I can think of.

Will MS make a MFi compatible controller for iOS

SkippyPaccino2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

Microsoft: "you might not want to buy our subpar games or our console, but we don't care! We will muscle our way in and you will learn to love us, because we are the all mighty Microsoft!!"

Gamers: "Why don't you start by making great games for a few years before shoving your subpar brand down our throat?"

I've never seen a company achieve so little, yet feel like they're the best to lead the industry forward. That's some high level arrogance on Microsoft part.

optimus2290d ago

yes of course, not unlike sony saying our console is for the upper class, if you want it and can't afford it "then get a 2nd job.".... "we could put out a console with 0 games and it will still sell millions."... that's not high level arrogance at all, right?🙄

Urzusix2290d ago

Like saying if you don't have the internet they buy a 360? lol Both company's said some stupid stuff

kneon2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

Here's the real quote

"for consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one'. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else."

It's not what people commonly portray it to be.

The Wood2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

Misquoted but when you just need a retort. . . Regurgitate anything that can be spun into a negative for . . . . . .reasons

I think MS is doing their own thing. Nothing wrong with that. They've tried in the past to fly too close to the sun but they seem persistent in their efforts to leverage live onto as many devices as possible. It's no guarantee for success but what's wrong with them trying something different. If they quell the delusions of grandeur and arrogance they showed at the start of this gen, they may actually meet one of their goals.

2pacalypsenow2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

Sony never said that tho...

Dragonscale2290d ago

@optimus, they never said that fgs.

yomfweeee2290d ago

Gwiz2290d ago

The console sure, but they still had to keep going while MS obviously doesn't.

optimus2290d ago

"but he didn't say that, stop it! he didn't say that!" good lord. 🙄.... let's take a stroll through memory lane shall we?... I'll just leave this here .... https://kotaku.com/thanks-f...

rainslacker2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

Yeah, just like those things that Sony never said.

Especially that 2nd quote. Where did that come from? never once Sony imply that, or suggest they weren't going to put out games. They're always about how they're going to support and release games. Sony execs have said some strange things over the years, but never seen them say something so cynical towards the gamers. I couldn't find reference to that 2nd quote in the memes you posted. You also change the context of the 2nd job quote, which is nothing new, and strange that after all this time, Xbox fan boys still show their ignorance because they've certainly been corrected on the meaning of the quote enough times. Even if you read it with trying to spin it, he doesn't actually tell people to get a 2nd job...so, double fail there I guess.

I guess if we're going to make up quotes, I'll go next.

Remember that time that Spencer said he'd give a free Xbox to anyone who sacrificed a white bunny rabbit in the name of Greenburg because he knew that people were so desperate for one, they'd do anything to get one? Man, those were the days. Strange it didn't get any media attention. I remember it clearly.

TacoTaco2290d ago

That's some high level reaching. Tell me: since 2013, which of the big three has received the harshest criticism and which has done the most to address it in a way that most benefits the users?

Can't be Nintendo. You can't even copy a game save onto an SD Card.
Can't be Sony. They are censoring major releases now (DMC5), have successfully adopted Microsoft's awful 360 marketing strategy of securing 3rd party timed DLC exclusives, and their Cross-Play stance isn't the friendliest. It's absurd that iOS and Android have been together since their very first mobile multiplayer games but just *talking* about PSN-XBL Cross-Play is pure tabboo.

Microsoft leads the charge on backwards compatibility. Microsoft leads the charge on wanting you to play with who you want wherever they could be. They certainly don't lead the charge on quality games, but that shouldn't discredit them from all the good they are now preaching, especially since they threw out the window the *entire* original Xbox One Vision precisely because they chose to listen - and respond to - criticism.

Shikoku2290d ago

If you mean MS then you haven't been paying attention. They backtracked on the policies on xbone but are marshaling ahead with their plan anyway now its just hidden better. They are still pushing an all digital controlled by them market place, killing used games and using a cloud streaming device to push games a s a service that gamers told them loudly and clearly 6yrs ago we don't want and what have they done? Pushed head anyway.

TacoTaco2290d ago

I'm still able to put my Ninja Gaiden disc from the OG Xbox in and it works better than ever on my One X. Not that I need the disc, since it's on Game Pass.

On PSN I purchased God of War for cheaper than it was at retail that week. I own the original trilogy on disc but I can't play any of them on my PS4... Every single purchase I've ever made on Steam on PC has been cheaper than those games ever were at retail too (and hey, they all work on my PC!). In a few months, I'll finally be able to play Halo Reach on PC, purchased through Steam. Digital isn't evil when it's convenient and can be more affordable...

You're free to complain but I'm quite enjoying the multiple ways to buy and enjoy the games I want to play.

Do not use game streaming as an example of a bad Microsoft action. Sony spent several hundred million dollars to purchase a company and has had their PSNow service running for years already...

kingcorey2290d ago

Sony led the industry and microsoft back tracked and followed, sony leads the industry with high quality and high quanity exclusives.. Games... This is all about games. sony and nintendo have the best developers and are the best at making games.. No question or arguement can be made about that.

2290d ago
Rhythmattic2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

taco,
you do realise PS2 was backwards compatible with PS1 o launch.. The launch PS3 was backwards compatible with hardware, not software emulation...Theres a reason the emotion chip was dropped from the P3, and the following sku's had software emulation, in which not all titles were particularly solid...... This was to reduce cost.... Now everyPS up to PS3 had BC on Launch... ON LAUNCH.
Theres a reason with the PS4 there was no BC... The Cell cannot be emulated buy even a decent PC, Little lone a console... Sure, theres a emulator out there, but still it only runs a few games.. Even with PSnow, Sony use PS3 a proprietary rack that has equivalent of 8 Cell PS3 machines... Its Not X86 Architecture..... If X86 could run the Equivalent of 8 PS3's in a rack, dont you think sony would be running them???
And to use your own statement, say modified..
"specially since they threw out the window the *entire* proprietary architecture model, precisely because they chose to listen to Developers/Programmers - and respond to - criticism.
by Getting Mark Cerny involved, and listing, really listening to people in the industry, sony now have a platform that can develop through time, instead of taking steps back due to new unknown architecture even new gen....

As just ignore remote play, and Share play... Something the PS4's been doing for years... Oh , and streaming PSnow, oh, and as of today i noticed iOS is supported......Interesting....
To Add, The PSVR Rocks..... Go on, Hate on it.

Dragonscale2290d ago

@taco, pure desperation. Ms know they can't compete directly with Sony or Nintendo so have to use subterfuge, all that stuff you quote is pure virtue signalling. The only thing they listened to was the sound of crickets at the start of this gen.

2290d ago
darthv722290d ago

@rhythm... and the 7800 was bc with 2600. So Sony copied Atari.

rainslacker2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

Sony hasn't had much criticism aimed at them because they haven't done as much wrong. Cross play and censorship are about the only two things that have really had any traction, and the "no games" argument died much quicker than I would have thought, which is probably good for the Xbox fans because of how MS is releasing games now. Cross play is a business decision which wasn't that big of a deal in the bigger picture. Censorship may be an issue going forward, but it's fairly new, and Sony isn't usually quick to react to anything. BC may be a thing, but Sony has extensive data on how many people use it, and what it's worth to try...so again, a business decision. What it ultimately comes down to though is that none of those criticisms are having an effect on PS, they are on Xbox. hence, MS has to react.

MS has had to do the most change because they've done the most wrong, and if you really look at it, MS is moving more towards services which require a connection, so they're just taking smaller steps towards the same goal.

In any case, MS is more trying to remedy its criticisms to be in a stronger position next gen. They've all but given up on this gen, so is it really answering the call to consumers that they are pretty much not even bothering to try with the X1 anymore. It's mostly just saving face. I don't see how that's in any way commendable. We don't know what Sony will do next gen, because they're providing for their players this gen. They have from the start, they will probably do so next gen. If they need to react or adjust due to market forces, they will. But this gen, they started off right, and have continued to do so.

The director of the original Silent Hill: “I look forward to seeing bold interpretations.”

Keiichiro Toyama—the creator and original director of the 1999 Silent Hill—shared his personal thoughts on the recently announced remake by Konami, reflecting on what the project means to him after more than two decades:
“I felt something similar when the game was adapted into a movie. It deeply moved me to see the names of the characters and locations I had created come to life visually, even though I wasn’t directly involved. That wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support of the fans and the dedication of the developers who’ve kept the series alive.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the remake evolves this time. With the advanced technology we now have, I’m sure I’ll be surprised by how the game is reimagined. Since the original was built for the first PlayStation, there will naturally be challenges—like the camera and controls—but I’m eager to see bold and creative solutions to those elements.”

it was not. it greatly expanded the areas and puzzles to the point where it felt like an entirely new game. the enemies and boss fights were given a MASSIVE upgrade. the abstract daddy fight in particular was incredible. and the team added two new endings.

AMD is really building hype around their unique partnership with Microsoft to help and build an advanced and seamless Xbox ecosystem across all Xbox consoles and devices.

I wonder what she meant by "full roadmap of gaming optimized chips" though? Seems ambitious.

Next year´s Xbox Showcase already looks promising and exciting. Here´s hoping they deliver.

InUrFoxHole1d 10h ago

They had best show 3yrs in a row. Heading for another

VenomUK1d 3h ago

Obscure_Observer said “I wonder what she meant by "full roadmap of gaming optimised chips" though? Seems ambitious.” To me, I interpret this to mean rather than having a couple of X/S products for launch and a handheld there is a longer term plan to release new products with higher specs at timed intervals. I’m speculating of course, but this could mean a spec bump every year or two, so that even if the PS6 or Steam Deck Home is released a year after ‘Xbox’ Microsoft can release an updated model that has a higher spec.

"It's X3D chips for console. Everyone knows this. And it's been rumored in the PS6 forever."

I doubt that AMD´s CEO would waste her time making this huge and important partnership announcement over a tech that will be 7 years old by the those next gen consoles will be released.

Notellin17h ago

You should have just lead this comment with the fact that you have zero understanding of technology in the consoles and instead have a Toms Hardware online forum level of education.

Some odd, deliberate wording, no branding, not 'Xbox consoles, Xbox handhelds' specifically, feels and sounds like they're building towards hardware that anyone can be used or licensed to/by themselves and other manufacturers.

Multiplatform software and hardware 'Xbox/AMD APU'.

The marketing and rumors seem to be heavy out of no where. The rumor was a 27 release but it maybe it could be 26 new console launch instead.

There PR is alrways super heavy handed. No one is acutally buying an Xbox as is.
Also it is very early to be talking so much about a next gen console.

Obscure_Observer17h ago

There´s a lot of people interested on Xbox Next and its ability to run games from major stores like Steam.

We know that the PS6 is just around the corner as well, but so far, no news on what it might improve over the PS5 or PS5 Pro.

However, Sony already made public that their priority and actual focus is the PS6. So its not "very early" to talk about next gen when the very console manufactures are talking about it.

Their recent Playstation revenue is also more than Xbox and Switch combined, obviously in large part due to 3rd party sales.

Christopher2d ago

I mean, if Sony is keeping third parties happy, kind of feels like a winning method.

GamingExplained1011d 9h ago

I mean they have to, since they have 2 exclusives anyone cared about this generation, and those are now on PC. The rest is this creatively bankrupt string of remakes and remasters, taking advantage of the creativity of developers past efforts, and laying off teams creative side since all that work has been done already by previous teams.

By far the least creative generation ever.

lukasmain1d 7h ago

@ Gaming-NEW-Troll account

"those are now on PC"

In that case. Xbox is Playstation's competition. MS have ZERO exclusives. ZERO. Nothing. Nada. Not a single exclusive.

Playstation has Astrobot. Demon's Souls, Astrobot Playroom, Gran Turismo 7, still not going to PC. They got Death Stranding 2 coming out in 3 days, NOT ON PC. Ghost of Yotei, not on PC.

That is 6 real exclusives MORE than Microsoft. Microsoft's Xbox is Playstation's competition. So lets compare.

I mean you brought it up.

Or does being "creatively bankrupt" not count when you have certain console exclusives going to PC years after they were released? In that case Returnal. Ratchet And Clank. Spiderman. Miles Morales. Silent Hill 2. And the list goes on

IRetrouk2d ago

Kinda always been that way if you look at previous gens, exclusives are important but they aint the main revenue generator.

Reaper22_2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

People are generally paid for the work they are doing. Layoffs generally occur when there is no work for them to do (project cancelled, business slowing down, etc). I’ve been laid off from two jobs during my 40+ years of working so I know about these things. A company is not going to just keep paying people if there is no work for them to do, no matter how much profits they made.

And this is why the game output for ps5 has been a tad slower…

1) they needed to be… games take longer to develop, and they’d burn out their teams trying to maintain the same pace as ps3.

2) they can afford to… games cost more than ever to push boundaries, so Sony had to figure out a way to match Xbox’s clever profit strategies in order to afford to continue to innovate and take risks.

lukasmain1d 22h ago

Reaper22_1d 20h ago

Nah, reaper's not hiding behind anything. I'm just pointing out some facts. At first the narrative was Microsoft isn't going to make the money back from the ABK deal to now their profits wouldn't be as high if they didn't get the deal. This very topic is part of the reason why the deal was secured. Sony's dishonesty and reluctance to tell the truth about how much money they're making and lying about how much this deal would hurt their business. That strategy failed. They're are making a lot of money. No doubt about it and its good for the industry but don't get butthurt when Microsoft post their profits and you guys see they are also making a lot of money as well.

CrashMania1d 20h ago

@reaper.

Microsoft don't reveal Xbox profits, sales numbers, or gamepass numbers, I wonder why that is?

You call Sony dishonest but at least they don't hide and obfuscate meaningful playstation numbers like MS do with Xbox.

IRetrouk1d 19h ago

Reaper stop lol, only one company hides that info and it ain't sony....

Chevalier1d 23h ago

"All you did was prove that you dont know what revenue is."

Nah all you did was confirm you're an idiot.

Reaper22_1d 21h ago (Edited 1d 21h ago )

You seem to be fluent in idiocy. Not everyone speaks it. So next time speak slowly and clearly so we all can understand. Getting emotional doesn't really make you smarter. Before you post a link with info make sure you know what it says.🫡

Chevalier1d 17h ago

"Nah, reaper's not hiding behind anything. I'm just pointing out some facts"

🤡 What facts? 🤣

Please share with everyone your idiocy

What does Xbox make in revenue and profit? What are their sales? How much money does Gamepass cost them? Oh right you got ZERO numbers to post.

"Before you post a link with info make sure you know what it says."

Says the idiot who can't even tell the difference between Microsoft and Xbox? Lmao. Seriously all you're showing everyone again is how much of an uninformed parroting idiot you are.

But go ahead and post your evidence! Oh right again ZERO from a ZERO. Absolutely 💯 hilarious to see you stumble like the idiot you are.

Only because of games prices otherwise it’s the worst generation in PlayStation history especially for games

Reaper22_2d ago

Thats true. The article did mention game and prices were a reason. Its also shows their greed is no different than Microsoft. Laying off all those people but yet bragging about profits and still tried to stop ABK deal. What the hell!

MatrixxGT2d ago

Closing studios, layoffs, leadership changes, PS plus increases, multiple game cancellations and delays, total flops like concord. Slowest release of first party games of any generation and they just shut down PS stars I guess because it was costing to much.
Yet they announce record profits…..the greed here is insane, MS and Nintendo too. All of them milking gamers and we just keep lapping it up like a blood hound for a meal.
Them tariffs are really hitting them hard I see.

Well a part of running a business is a tight grip on that P&L sheet. In project management. It’s a known fact that the farther into a project you go, the more costly the corrections. Having something reach the definition of done, the end of the road, and it’s hated is a monumental loss of money. As games are usually made iteratively it’s like how was this not caught and course corrected several times before this point. Sony is definitely known as trusting and allows teams to make the games they want to make. They “trust the process”. The caveat to that big budget and freedom is if it bombs, especially if it’s your first game, you’re outta there. They have shareholders/stakeholders to keep happy. Where as normally a done game like Concord would give ROI as it was out in the wild. The cost of the project is recouped and turned into profit or delivered whatever value they wanted. If the game is now NOT coming out, how do they get that money back and stay profitable? By not paying wages for that team over a course of time that would have still been on payroll working on the next potential bomb, DLC for a dead game, and essentially costing more money.
It sadly isn’t greed, it’s business. They release these great profits because 1) it’s enticing for more stakeholders to invest, and 2) Despite failures they are still balancing the books and turning record setting profits.
How many live service games died at various stages of development? They are still this profitable? Imagine if the games came out and were hits to add onto the profits?

Christopher1d 18h ago (Edited 1d 18h ago )

So, you're saying that over $10B of this is from $10 to $20 software price increases? Zero to do with increased market reach? Massive MTX from third-party games?

Vithar2d ago

where are the "Sony is in trouble" sayers? LOL

Chevalier2d ago

They're talking about Microsoft quarterly profits like any true gamer would be doing.

Aloymetal1d 23h ago

Oh, that's coming, it's a mandatory thing just wait for next gen and you'll see infinite articles from the shills and the green fanbase saying ''tHiS GeN WiL Be dIfFerEnT''
