Metro Exodus Will Be Exclusive to Epic Games Store

From GameWatcher: "Metro Exodus will not be coming out on Steam, according to the latest press release from Deep Silver, who have now decided to forego Steam altogether in favour of the Epic Games Store. A continuation of the exodus of AAA developers and publishers from Valve's digital marketplace, really.

With Metro Exodus now an Epic Games Store exclusive, Deep Silver has also disclosed their reasoning for making the switch, thus making it crystally clear that the bottom line is - money."

That's pretty big. Epic Store is getting some pretty good exclusives.

DaDrunkenJester2312d ago

Too bad the store itself is very barren still and has a horrible layout and missing a ton of key features.

CaptainCook2312d ago

What Epic store? Epic hasn't released a store yet. Epic Games store will release this year

Kados2312d ago

@CaptainCook:

It released a month ago. I have it installed and running right now.

DaDrunkenJester2312d ago

@captaincook

Huh? the Epic Game store has been around for a while now.

Double_O_Revan2312d ago

I mean, so was Steam once upon a time. Give it a little time. Also, remember how much gamers hated Steam when it launched?

DaDrunkenJester2312d ago

@Agent

Oh totally, but Steam was kinda the first of its kind. Epic has had years of observing how Steam is going so they should have had a bunch of things already ready to go.

Skuletor2312d ago

@CaptainCook
I've already got Subnautica, Super Meat Boy and some stupid party game Jackbox or something free from there, they're giving away a free game every two weeks, so they've been out over a month and a half now.

abstractel2312d ago

This is annoying. Like Origin/Ubisoft I'll have to point a custom shortcut in steam to have all my games in the same place.

CaptainCook2312d ago

Open Epic games launcher, it says Epic Store will be released this year 2019.

Screw you Epic. I don't want this exclusive crap infesting the PC market. We shouldn't need to create yet another account, with another password to remember, with another place to store our payment details and another launcher just to play the odd game here and there. I hate the way this is going, I don't see how it will benefit us gamers.

I'm fine with multiple stores, but I'm not okay with stores having games exclusively on their store.

DaDrunkenJester2312d ago

It doesn't benefit gamers. It benefits devs/publishers because the Epic store has way better sales cuts.

fiveby92312d ago

One problem with the EPIC store is there are no reviews. I think publishers have grown weary of the review bombing on Steam even though I think the reviews are generally very beneficial to the consumer. When a publisher screws up people let them hear about it. I like the idea of competition but frankly, exclusivity is not really competition.

TK-552312d ago

"It doesn't benefit gamers. It benefits devs/publishers because the Epic store has way better sales cuts."

And Steam has a userbase that guarantees sales and marketing that her platforms do not. Right now EPIC store doesn't offer much outside of "buy the game here because the developers get a better cut" while offering less social features, No user reviews and no community workshop.

agent45322311d ago

Can Valve just give more to say game developers. Is time for Valve to start competing or else there will be too many digital storefronts with exclusive games utterly lame

Twinblade2311d ago

What games are on epic store? Basically epic owned games?

Asuka2312d ago

I mean that isn't Epic's fault. publishers decide where to distribute their products, and Epic is going to allow them to keep most of their profit compared to other stores. If you need to blame someone blame steam for taking bigger cuts from publishers, or DRM in general but that argument is essentially a dead horse in 2019.

badz1492311d ago

If you think Epic has NOTHING to do with this, you're terribly naive

porkChop2312d ago (Edited 2312d ago )

This is Steam's fault so blame them. Visibility on Steam is terrible, and Valve takes a ridiculous 30% cut. Paying a higher cut than anywhere else just to be buried on the platform doesn't make sense.

Devs have been complaining about the issues on Steam for years and Valve has done nothing about it. They're the biggest distributor in the market so they don't care. It's about time they get a good kick in the ass.

The Epic Games Store offers far better visibility currently while only taking a 12% cut. That's a better deal any way you look at it.

porkChop2312d ago

Nah, they have their in-house 4A Engine. But yeah any dev using UE4 gets a really great deal.

TK-552312d ago (Edited 2312d ago )

"Devs have been complaining about the issues on Steam for years and Valve has done nothing about it."

They actually have with sales, reviews and the curator system. Also i wouldnt be sp quick to praise the EPIC store because there was an article a few weeks back that said one of the reasons devs are liking it was the lack of community features and review system. They like it because the community has no voice to hold people directly accountable.

"Devs have been complaining about the issues on Steam for years and Valve has done nothing about it."

How Many games have released on EGS compared to Steam in the last month?

EDIT: Have a read of this and tell me that EPIC are the ones who should be giving Valve a kick up the ass.

Razzer2312d ago

And Metro Exodus is $50 on Epic. Seems the savings are being passed down to the gamers. Consoles have to pay $60

Rachel_Alucard2311d ago

Steam is a community first, devs second platform. Epic is Devs first, community 2nd. Why would the community want to use Epic's store? Epic is not adding reviews or forums so any complaints and crap the dev has done don't get publicly displayed. Even the most well positive reviewed games, if you go to the negative reviews they tend to be more critical so you can see if there's something you care about it in it. Apparently, Epic thinks the community discussing issues and solutions about games and reviewing a game negatively is "toxic." I'm not supporting them for this reason

porkChop2311d ago

@Rachel

I understand where you're coming from, and I don't disagree. But there are multiple other ways to read user reviews for games. Having it built-in would certainly be better, but this doesn't really prevent anyone from reading user reviews if they want to.

Rachel_Alucard2311d ago (Edited 2311d ago )

@porkchop

Oh I have no problem with those things, however having it right there on the store page allows the user to see any issues with the game advertised as well. They don't like this sign and want to take away the community's voice. The only you can do is bombard the dev with messages but lol they can just ignore that. I also don't recall a site that only lets you leave a review if you own the game too, so theres that.

Movefasta19932312d ago

It's fine until steam reduces the amount they take from devs. Competition is good.

crazyCoconuts2312d ago

I'm with you. I was going to get this as I played the prior Metros ( on Steam) but I won't buy until this is on Steam. I want my controller configs and cloud storage and hate bouncing between apps.

Weeblordbad2312d ago

Oh the humanity.

It's a computer not a phone, since when is "bouncing between apps" a killer? New PC gamers are soft as hell.

Razzer2312d ago (Edited 2312d ago )

Bouncing between apps? Try using the start menu maybe? Or create desktop shortcuts?

crazyCoconuts2312d ago

Another peeve I have with multiple stores is that they all want to load at boot and don't coordinate updates. So here I am pushing my rig as far as I can playing a game and Epic decides to install another Fortnite patch. Steam will install when you're not playing unless you choose to override. People can complain but compare the features, it's the best the PC has right now ..

porkChop2312d ago

You know you can stop the programs from opening at boot, right? You can also turn off automatic updates if you don't want them. Unless you're actually using the specific program you can just close them and than none of this is even an issue.

crazyCoconuts2312d ago

Those are compromises. I want the functionality steam provides. One download manager that waits until I'm not playing a game to install updates. If I do choose to dl while playing, cap the rate. I also want one friends list one set of achievements, etc. If Epic wants to compete with that I support competition but not some half assed lackluster attempt like what the Epic store is...

RainOfTerror2312d ago

This is a timed exclusive, it will be available on Steam on Feb. 14, 2020

TheOptimist2312d ago

Dont play console party here and keep exclusives to a store just by buying out timed exclusives. Never touching the Epic store with the attitude. At least console manufacturers bought the whole development team instead of shelling cash for each game. Make some games of your own smh.

ShadowWolf7122312d ago

... the publishers are making this choice because Valve takes a ridiculously large cut from sales vs Epic. 30% vs only 12%. If you're gonna be mad at anyone, be mad at Valve for not being competitive.

TheOptimist2312d ago

Fortnite money.... All fortnite money. Epic have extrated a lot of cash from dumb people in their flagship game. Now they can afford that 80-20 cut. But hey, let's outweigh the number of sales Epic store will get for the 80-20 profit that Epic.

It'll be interesting to see how much the sales numbers on both platforms for sure. Hey I am all up for competition, just not in this way. I appreciate GoG, but dont appreciate this attitude.

ShadowWolf7122312d ago

Opening up a storefront is an attitude now? Competing is an attitude now?

Dude, grow up. Seriously.
