Metro Exodus Will Be Exclusive to Epic Games Store

One problem with the EPIC store is there are no reviews. I think publishers have grown weary of the review bombing on Steam even though I think the reviews are generally very beneficial to the consumer. When a publisher screws up people let them hear about it. I like the idea of competition but frankly, exclusivity is not really competition.

This is Steam's fault so blame them. Visibility on Steam is terrible, and Valve takes a ridiculous 30% cut. Paying a higher cut than anywhere else just to be buried on the platform doesn't make sense.

Devs have been complaining about the issues on Steam for years and Valve has done nothing about it. They're the biggest distributor in the market so they don't care. It's about time they get a good kick in the ass.

The Epic Games Store offers far better visibility currently while only taking a 12% cut. That's a better deal any way you look at it.

Also i wouldnt be sp quick to praise the EPIC store because there was an article a few weeks back that said one of the reasons devs are liking it was the lack of community features and review system. Steam is a community first, devs second platform. Epic is Devs first, community 2nd. Why would the community want to use Epic's store? Epic is not adding reviews or forums so any complaints and crap the dev has done don't get publicly displayed. Even the most well positive reviewed games, if you go to the negative reviews they tend to be more critical so you can see if there's something you care about it in it. Apparently, Epic thinks the community discussing issues and solutions about games and reviewing a game negatively is "toxic." I'm not supporting them for this reason

I understand where you're coming from, and I don't disagree. But there are multiple other ways to read user reviews for games. Having it built-in would certainly be better, but this doesn't really prevent anyone from reading user reviews if they want to.

Oh I have no problem with those things, however having it right there on the store page allows the user to see any issues with the game advertised as well. They don't like this sign and want to take away the community's voice. The only you can do is bombard the dev with messages but lol they can just ignore that. Another peeve I have with multiple stores is that they all want to load at boot and don't coordinate updates. So here I am pushing my rig as far as I can playing a game and Epic decides to install another Fortnite patch. Steam will install when you're not playing unless you choose to override. People can complain but compare the features, it's the best the PC has right now ..

You know you can stop the programs from opening at boot, right? You can also turn off automatic updates if you don't want them. Unless you're actually using the specific program you can just close them and than none of this is even an issue.

Those are compromises. I want the functionality steam provides. One download manager that waits until I'm not playing a game to install updates. If I do choose to dl while playing, cap the rate. I also want one friends list one set of achievements, etc. If Epic wants to compete with that I support competition but not some half assed lackluster attempt like what the Epic store is...

I'd think it depends on how these exclusives sell. The devs or pubs might get a bigger cut of the sales but if the game doesn't sell well it'll be hard to justify limiting your own games exposure.

Most people don't know this but Valve gives out free steam keys to its partners so they can sell games on their storefront, like Gmg or GoG. Valve doesn't see a cent of that sale. I see a lot of people say "it's just a launcher, you can still play the game on pc so it doesn't matter", but those people fail to see the bigger picture. Where does it end? Has nothing to do with one more account. I actually already have the Epic client installed and running (For Humble Bundles and giveaways). The issues are the fragmentation of my game library, i have 369 games on Steam right now, imagine if that or more was spread across 10 different clients (Currently already have 6 installed and it is likely to get worse as more companies want to make their own), obviously people cannot have every game they own installed at the same time, so the argument of "you can run it from your desktop without the client" doesn't really work. You still need to remember what game is where, before you can install it. Also the fact that all my friends are currently on Steam, and the lack of features like acheivements, trading cards, workshop, etc. There is alot more to it than just having more clients installed. The workshop is a big one. What if TES6 launches only on the Bethesda client? That is one less entire community of mod support, and $20 says Bethesda would be back to charging real money for all mods.

About as much as only having a licence to a car. You cannot make a 1:1 copy of a car and then go sell it as the original. Pantents and Copywrites exist on everything. Games may only be "licenced" from a legal standpoint, but from a technical and practical one, they function as owned. You can freely sell or trade it for whatever you choose, and without any 3rd party taking an automatic cut. You are legally allowed to make a single copy for backup purposes (atleast in the USA) and keep it whereever you want. You do not need to worry about servers going offline in 20 years and then loosing access to all the games you purchased because "oh, the TOS says we can revoke the key whenever we want, so screw you". Nobody can show up at your door and demand that you give them back all the disks you purchased. You do not have to worry about music getting deleted from the disk because 3rd party licencing has expired.

Haven't had a decent PC since the noughties but I bought a new laptop last year and wanted to get Gears 4. The MS store wouldn't let me use my Gmail to setup an account and then wanted me to add my card details to my Hotmail account which I haven't used in more than a decade and is constantly getting hacked so said f*ck that. Main use of my laptop is for music production so want to keep the OS as clean as possible and not have to install unnecessary crap just to play a game.
