From IGN: "Rather than setting the world alight like the fireworks above the Mushroom Kingdom, Nintendo’s underperforming Wii U console ultimately went up in the smoke of a Mushroom cloud. However, it at least attempted to get off on the right foot by launching in 2012 with a high quality 2D Mario game, New Super Mario Bros. U. Here’s what we thought at the time:"
The Super Mario franchise has spent a shockingly long time without any new 2D platformers, and it's high time for that to change.
From old favorites like Mario and Sonic to new blood like Hollow Knight, SPC takes a look at the best 2D platformers released in the past ten years!
Daily Video Game writes: "If you've got a Nintendo Switch and are on the hunt for cheap game deals, Amazon is running a game sale on a wide variety of popular games for Nintendo Switch right now, including many first-party and AAA titles."
The New Super Mario series was already stale by the time this game came out originally. Giving it a new lease on life doesn’t suddenly make it any less average and disappointing of a Mario experience. This review at least proves to me why scores are largely useless though. A lot of places will feel obligated to dole out somewhere between an 8 and a 9 because Mario, but any review that doesn’t read like a 7 will just mean the reviewer is lying to themselves. Without the need to score it hanging over heads, I feel reviews have much more opportunity to embrace absolute honesty.
