Gaming Age: Crash: Mind Over Mutant Review

Gaming Age writes: "Crash: Mind Over Mutant marks the first follow-up to the previous 360 title Crash of the Titans, and incorporates a lot of the same gameplay mechanics introduced with that game, like riding around on giant mutant beasts and swapping them out for various puzzle/areas. In reality it's a surprisingly decent platformer that gets completely marred by the inane backtracking that's forced on you from beginning to end.

When you first start up Mind Over Mutant you'll notice that the game itself looks pretty good, the cutscenes are actually entertaining (and inventive), and the platforming itself is fun and easy to get into. The first couple levels are pretty deceptive really, and it's easy to fool yourself into thinking that you've stumbled onto something great. However, once you get past the first few missions, you'll realize this "open world" style design that's been introduced is more of a pain then a simple level select hub style we've seen in other platformers for a while, since you'll constantly need to backtrack thru entire levels just to reach another level you've been to before but couldn't fully advance thru because you were missing a key mutant or other item. It honestly feels a bit like the "Metroidvania" style, but it absolutely doesn't work here, and even those games will introduce shortcuts or warps to get from one place to another quickly."

Crash 3 Warped, and 2 are my favs for the main games

Crash Team Racing is amazing and Crash Bash is fun

naruga2883d ago (Edited 2883d ago )

the article puts CB1 -4thplace and Crash Lame sanity -2th ...are they totaly fing serious???.....(CB1>CB2> CB3)=CRT>>>>>ev erything else

Lynx02072882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

For me (CB3=CB2> CB1)=CRT>>>>>ev erything else. Imo Crash was terrible in PS2 era.

Twinsanity And Ctr are my favorites (And still playing CTR from time to time). Not the biggest fan of the first 3 games,. Not that they are bad, But I rather play something like rayman legends or mario. They often have better precision to the platforming, and 60 fps has a lot to do with it. Also easier to get a sense of speed with those games while crash is a bit limited with his abilites.

Missed heaps of games including Crash Purple on GBA, Racing titles, Crash Bash and Crash Boom Bang on DS

Last good game for me was Twinsanity

The music and gameplay was fantastic...plus Cortex in that game was hilarious

tigertron3798d ago

The last "good" game was The Wrath of Cortex, but tbh, Crash died as soon as Naughty Dog stopped developing Crash games.

XisThatKid3798d ago

I agree to -Foxtrot and tigertron
I think PlayStation Allstars brought a deluge of awareness to an already known fact that the industry is at a certain kind of loss without (good) Crash games.
Thank you Activision for the F**kery.

breakpad3798d ago (Edited 3798d ago )

last good and a real swan song to the series was Crash Team Racing developed by ND and crushing Mario (the best cart IP)with ease ..filled with nostalgia of the former games and having the quality to surpass any battle cart race game

Sir_Simba3798d ago

For me crash never fell, I only played crash the ones naughty made, when other took the franchise it wasnt the same anymore.

Applejack3798d ago

These are the only Crash games that I've ever played and I plan on keeping it that way to keep my good memories of him.

Crash
Crash 2
Crash 3
Crash Team Racing
Crash Bash
Crash Nitro Kart
Crash The Wrath of Cortex

Ikki_Phoenix3798d ago

as soon activision took over thats when crash became crap

ScorpiusX3798d ago

Didn't Activision Always Own Crash .

Delsin_Rowe3798d ago

negativo, vivenda own crash before fusing with activision and they had a contract with PlayStation and NaughtyDog for 4 games, after that they did some games for crash then they fused with activision which he later pass away shortly when he heard he had to work with nintendo too. Then activision made a clone of crash with his dna and then the franchise died but rumors PlayStation bought him back and are riving the original crash by using Mass Effect 2 technology.

Oh dear these prices are awful, and that on offer?

Steam has the right idea when it comes to sales, these are old games

NonShinyGoose4514d ago

They aren't on offer. These are the usual prices which are vastly cheaper than buying these games at retail.

NonShinyGoose4513d ago

If you can find a copy of Tales of Vesperia for less than £20 or Bully for less than £12 then please enlighten the rest of us.

the_zero4513d ago

I got Tales of Vesperia for £18 from Zavvi about 3 months ago. It's gone back up to £22 - £25 but I'm sure it'll be back down again. You can often get 10% off vouchers from Zavvi too.
