Shame they are still calling this Beyond Good and Evil

TFJWM2378d ago

I don't mind them using the Good and Evil name/universe for it but it should not have 2 on it.

PhantomS422378d ago

-Cries for years for GBE2
- Get GBE2
-Cries about it being in the same universe with returning characters

Is there anything that makes you happy or does just live your life to be as miserable as possible?

LucasRuinedChildhood2378d ago (Edited 2378d ago )

It's not really the sequel that most people wanted.

I understand his issues with this game. There's some stuff that I like here. The vehicles, space exploration and the look of the world are nice but ..... seeing the tropes of Ubisoft open-world games find their way into this franchise is kind of disheartening. Zooming in to spot locations is in so many Ubisoft games (works exactly the same as Steep) .The focus on online is also really off-putting.

SegaGamer2378d ago (Edited 2378d ago )

But it has almost nothing in common with Beyond Good and Evil.

The whole feel, look, style and tone of Beyond Good and Evil doesn't exist at all in this game from what I can see. Beyond Good and Evil was a family friendly game with a cartoonish look and feel to it and was focused on single player. This game is more aimed at adults, with the annoying swearing monkey (who isn't at all as funny as they think by the way), more serious tone, more bloody and with a more realistic look to it. It's also an online focused game. You can play single player, but it's looking like it is being designed around online co-op.

If Nintendo were to take Mario's tone, cartoon style graphics, gameplay and turn it into a more realistic looking world with characters that look realistic, platforming that involved killing enemies in a bloody way and swearing all of the place, would you think that is good for Mario? No, it would be stupid, because that is not what Mario is. This is the same thing for a lot of Beyond Good and Evil fans. The biggest fans of Beyond Good and Evil must surely hate the way this is looking. After waiting so long, Beyond Good and Evil 2 is getting made, but it's far away from anything they wanted.

-Foxtrot2378d ago

Yeah I cried for years for Beyond Good and Evil 2...BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL 2, a sequel to a single play, story driven platforming game rather then asking for an online open world space game that's more about creating a character then continiuing Jade's story from the first game. I cried for THAT....instead I got nearly the exactly opposite.

It's like waiting in line for something you really like and enjoy only to get served and they give you something completely different, you'd be p****** off even if the othe item is pretty good.

People were fans of Beyond Good and Evil, if you didn't give a shit about the game or whatever then fair enough but saying people are miserable and the like for not getting what they asked for is just being ridiculous.

Oh and "returning characters"...IT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE. How can they say it's a prequel then have Pey'j in it looking at an evil looking grown up Jade, looking the same age as she was in the first game. They never said anything about her being taken or being evil...she grew up as an orphan in a lighthouse with Pey'j.

Lets be honest they only revealed them both in a video year and a half later to try and please the complaints of Jade being missing and it not being a sequel. "Bu bu but how do you know they just added it in and it wasn't planned?" Because there's no f***** way they'd reveal the game and get complaints about Jade being missing or it being a prequel...they'd have revealed it with Jade and Pey'j first time round. When you do something like this it shows there's not much of a story set it stone.

They need to delay the game and rebrand it into a new IP...even a spin off Beyond Good and Evil dropping the number 2.

The problem with the name is that it is stupid and won't sell. It's a "try hard" name....it's cringey and sounds like it's trying to be edgy....it's generic and lame though.

Why have the words "good" & "evil" in your games name?

Does it get any more basic and generic than that?

Want to know why most people have never heard of this series going into this game? It's difficult to market such a dumb name.

That being said....game looks like a ton of fun......there marketing sucks though.

Omnislashver362377d ago (Edited 2377d ago )

Wtf. Just stop. Kids who claim media is too edgy end up being the edgiest ones out there. This game isn't called sexhavin69core420, it's called Beyond Good and Evil so quit blowing things out of proportion.

I mean "Doom" and "Resident Evil" are the exact same way so it's hard not to give you an eyeroll.

rokkbrin2378d ago

Another game that's been ubified.

THE-JAGON2378d ago

It says pre-alpha on the lower right corner easily a ps5/xbox two game

rdgneoz32378d ago

Judging by the video, there have been some PS4 / xbone games this year that easily beat it in term graphics and gameplay. Hell, look at RDR2 with it's huge open world, beautiful graphics, and combat / animations.

opc2377d ago

@rdgneoz3

Ubisoft's own AC: Odyssey looks better too. but again this is apparently pre-alpha

Blu3_Berry2378d ago

I dunno why but I feel that this game is still a ways off, at least 3 years. Just a weird gut feeling I'm getting.

THE-JAGON2378d ago

it says pre-alpha on the lower right corner

porkChop2378d ago

It's a next gen game and is super early in development. Probably releasing in 3-5 years.

Five Big Games Still Lingering Somewhere in Development Hell

This year promises to be a big year for gaming, and it will definitely be one of the greatest if any of these big MIA projects finally made it into gamers' hands.

Pretty sure Silk Song and Dragon Age are going smoothly. The other 2 can be assumed to be quietly cancelled knowing their publishers and Metroid will most likely be shown off this year.

Michiel1989518d ago

Dragon Age going smoothly??? Directors leaving, people leaving in general, terrible working conditions....not sure how you define smoothly.

VincentVanBro420d ago

lol Dragon Age development has been anything but smooth

Chocoburger518d ago

I remember in 2017 when Nintendo showed off the Metroid Prime 4 logo, and some Nintendo defenders claimed "Just because they only showed a logo, doesn't mean that's all they've worked on for the game."

As history has proven, they were wrong. Nintendo showed off a logo back in 2017 because that's literally all they had.

-Foxtrot518d ago

I think Beyond Good and Evil 2 can stay there unless they are going to just rename it to a new IP

DOMination-518d ago

Pretty sure BG&E2 is dead at this point - along with the other game Ancel was working on before he left - I think it was called WILD. Anyone remember that from a PS conference years ago?

Dreadwolf isn't in development hell anymore and is finally getting its reveal in the summer - since 2016 the game has been scrapped and restarted three times but its been going pretty well since the last reboot when EA finally allowed BioWare to just get on with making a single player game.

I'm not sure Perfect Dark is in development hell either - like it could be but we haven't really heard much to suggest either way - imo they just showed the trailer off when the game was still in pre-production. Xbox were desperate for anything and this is all they had at the time. And the reason we haven't heard anything since is just because it's in normal development and games take 5 years to make. The help from a support studio was typically overblown on N4G because nearly every game has this.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 Is Now the Most Delayed AAA Game Ever

Ubisoft's action-adventure even beats Duke Nukem Forever which previously was the title with the longest wait between a game being first announced and it actually being released.

x_xavier_x987d ago

I understand that the original game is held in high esteem by some passionate fans. I tried to get into it on several occasions and I just lost interest after a few hours of gameplay.

Abracadabra987d ago

Beyond Good & Evil was a great game at the time... but, like most older games, it didn't age well. Gameplay and graphics are subpar by today's standards.

Wouldn't mind if they made a Remake with updated gameplay and graphics. Game turns 20 next year...

x_xavier_x987d ago (Edited 987d ago )

I feel the same way about the original Psychonauts. I gave it a shot every few years, and it just wasn't for me.

MadLad987d ago

I find it still very playable by today's standards, honestly.

But opinions are opinions.
I just feel it actually aged well.

Godmars290986d ago

Its was great middleware that someone thought would make for an even greater AAAA title.

For some reason...

0hMyGandhi986d ago

Beyond Good and Evil aged just fine, as did the original Psychonauts. Visually, sure, a bit rough (though both have a wonderfully refreshing art style that more than makes up for actual "visual fidelity".)

I'd say that you really need to give both of these games another shot. Psychonauts is one of the most original and utterly creative games I've ever played, and it's also one of the funniest as well. Psychonauts 2 was even better, and basically, a (well made) Pixar movie brought to life.

In all honesty, don't just play games and try to like them if you don't actually like them. It's perfectly fine to have your own tastes! we tend to use a tremendous amount of hyperbole when referring to games that are slightly older, and we speak only from memory, which *can* be deceiving.

I will say that I replayed the first Psychonauts again in the last few months, and still adore it. But like I said, this is all subjective.

986d ago
poppatron986d ago

I gave up on the og psychonauts after about 5 or so hours because like many many people those weird sluggish controls just got the better of me while trying to get through some of the more testing platforming and swinging around parts.

BgaE I got way further in enjoyed, I think I saved it off in the end because something I was more interested in came out. The sequel looks like a completely different type of game in genre and scope, to the point it looked pretty ground breaking I thought. I’m still super low key excited for it, although I wouldn’t be surprised if next time it reared it’s head it looked very very different.

EazyC986d ago

It's an age thing. I'm always reminded of this when I whip out the old PS2, the vast majority of 3D games from the '00s just haven't aged well.

Good-Smurf986d ago

I have same feeling over Code Veronica X fans loved it to bits while I'm came out of it confused and disappointed.
I never played Beyond Good & Evil and I might get give it a try soon.

deleted987d ago

Cancel it or change the name for all I care. This isn't the Beyond Good & Evil I fell in love with.

Si-Fly987d ago

Weird take. Whilst we didn’t get proper gameplay reveals it looked very much how I would want BG&E to look now.

-Foxtrot987d ago (Edited 987d ago )

So you wanted an ambitious open world Beyond Good and Evil sequel that gameplay differs from the original and has no clear vision so far if it's a prequel (which no one wanted) or a sequel (with an evil Jade where she's not the main character, which no one wanted)

All people wanted was a full on sequel that's a platformer and continues Jades story.

-Foxtrot987d ago

Exactly

It's not Beyond Good and Evil

They had an idea for an ambitious new IP and thought it would sell better or had more of a safety net if they slapped on a franchise name.

isarai986d ago

Seriously, has absolutely nothing to do with the original other that a loose cameo.

CrimsonWing69987d ago (Edited 987d ago )

How hard is it to make a game like the original? Nobody wanted anything different and these idiots just insist on trying to make something completely unrelated AND they don’t even know what to make! So, yea, here we go with the delays. Ubisoft can be such an obnoxious publisher/developer.

InklingGirl987d ago

Just leave it alone, the original is a classic lets not ruin it.

Exvalos987d ago

I'm more worried about how fast that time went i still remember it being announced there is no way that was that many years ago NO WAY!

Beyond Good And Evil 2 Starts External Playtesting

Although Beyond Good and Evil 2 has had its problems, it has officially been confirmed by Ubisoft that it is still in active development.

Terry_B1072d ago

It never looked like a Beyond Good and Evil game even.

TheExecutioner1071d ago

Do you know that first game came out 2003 by the time this game released i would be probably 40.
Now majority of gamers who played the first one are not going even bother playing now.

This game is a refreshing and wants to be more appealing to all gamers.

Concertoine1071d ago

I just don’t see a reason why it cant be a new IP in that case.

Terry_B1071d ago

..and? do you think it looks like a game that appears to all gamers? Unlike the first part it gets mostly negative feedback, even from people that never played the first game.

Michiel19891070d ago

@Terry they also didnt play the 2nd.....

maelstromb1070d ago

If the devs were smart, they'd launch a remake of the original a few months before the sequel to get the fans who have loved the original amped again and to also introduce it to a new generation to get them excited for what's to come. Seems like a win-win to me.

isarai1071d ago

Looks like an awesome game, but it has nothing too do with BGE1, or anything to do with what fans wanted.

Yi-Long1071d ago

If it would have been a SP action-adventure game like the first one, I would have been excited.
