Colin Campbell writes how humor and facial animations make Kassandra a better playable character.
Felt like that was the case from watching the trailers. Kassandra seems to have some character to her while Alexios is very wooden. Likely down to differing voice acting skills. I'll likely play Kassandra when I get it.
Can't say I like any of them, lack charisma or something.
Yeah Kassandra doesn't seem like she's up there in terms of great characters by any stretch of the imagination but certainly is my preference within the game.
IMHO, you get the best of both worlds by playing Kassandra. She's not as good as FemShep or Aloy, but still good for an open world game where she has to repeat thousands of lines that really have no meaning from one moment to another.
What do mean by best of both worlds?
@Dragon I can't really go too much into it without spoiling it, but Kassandra is the better protagonist voice actor.
Maybe he's just supposed to be a hard ass? He comes off that way to me and I dig it.
Yeah she looks better and her voice is leagues better the his! He sounds like an idiot, even goofy at times!
At no point have I ever felt he sounded goofy...
Really, from jump street my wife was laughing at him! He just is too over the top in his delivery. I'm playing as him so it's not like I haven't been listening to him. That said it's not as jarring as it was in the beginning.
Maybe it helps that I was playing Shenmue before I started playing this game
Thats cool, still playing as Alexios though.
Maybe if they focused on just her as a character then the game would have been better done. Least in Syndicate Jacob and Evie felt like two different people.
The problem with that is I hated having to play as one of them because the other made me realize how much I disliked having to play as the other.
Syndicate was boring and both characters were nothing to write home about.
The voice acting and animations for the dude are pretty awful. I can confirm. I haven’t tried her yet.
Yeah, the animations for Alexios looked bizarre in videos I saw before launch. The voice acting is just horrible. Kassandra feels much more natural as a character.
I knew I was going to pick her to play the game before buying it & I like her character so far including the game.
The game would feel really unreal and fake if I play as a woman in this game. Also it would be historically incorrect.
You mean the science fiction elements of the franchise don't already do that? Lol
Women of Sparta had power that was equal to the men, but it was not as a warrior. They do kind of skirt this with the story also Greeks treatment of women was terrible especially compared to the Spartans.
I agree, I haven't played the game yet, but i have a hard time getting behind a women taking on a group of guys in hand to hand combat. As far as science fiction elements, these add to lore and story. I could get behind Kassandra if she is somehow a Demi God type character, or a weapon that gives her unnatural strength, or if she was stealth oriented. As someone who has competed in jiu jitsu for over a decade, I know the physical limitations of a woman fighting a man fairly well (Jiu-Jitsu allows almost 100% live training).
"I could get behind Kassandra if she is somehow a Demi God type character, or a weapon that gives her unnatural strength, or if she was stealth oriented. " You know, all these things are actually true so go ahead, get behind her.
# bjjcna "I agree, I haven't played the game yet, but i have a hard time getting behind a women taking on a group of guys in hand to hand combat." I take it you never heard of Alexander The Great's half sister Cynane who was very skilled in hand to hand combat and fought in battles alongside Alexander. Here is her bio: https://www.ancient.eu/Cyna... I seriously think Xena Warrior Princess was based off of Cynane. So Cassandra character as a female warrior fighting among Greek men, is not far fetched when you think about it. And there are many female warriors in Africa, and all over that will surprise you. Of course, the winners of history choose to never put them in the history books.
@ ashunderfire, Cynane was royalty. I guarantee she never fought hand to hand against anyone. Even from the link you posted her military credentials are more for a commanding role rather than a fighting role.
Speaking of female assassins, I miss Evie Frye!
Alexios is terrible, I choose Alexios and I regret. Terrible narration Russian-like voice, Not happy. Wish I could switch to Kassandra ... she looks hot as villain though
Delet this. Early game spoiler there but I do agree. She looks pretty bad ass when you first see her walk in.
Ridiculous, you know the voice actor for Alexios is from Athens, Greece!
I agree: Delete this. I had no idea because I've been spending all my time roaming around and not doing quests for 10 hours, but now I know exactly what to expect.
the game has really bad voice acting in general, specially the NPCs they have notoriously bad acting, animation, facial expression. it's like they could have had google home narrate most t he NPCs and they would've gotten better acting out of them. One hilarious one is the npc that sends you to help his brother. when you get to the brother and he's supposedly dying the tragic moment suddenly turns hilarious coz his sentence ( which his face and voice acting communicate no pain at all) is abruptly interrupted. and the guy ... dies ? Clipped it here ... https://xboxclips.com/Zaher...
WTF, man? That was terrible, lol.
Blimey, thanks for that, made me chuckle :) Like you said, he doesn't seem to be in too much pain, maybe a case of trapped wind or overeating? Then he looks like he's exhausted and simply decides to have a lie down.
Lol yea i couldnt hrlp but clip is when it happened it was funny as hell ( the few uses for kinect )
So bad, lmfao.
Haha true goty right there!
the game is actually fun, but ubi-soft has a tendacy to throw quantity over quality and you find lots of low quality assets in their games with very obvious lack of quality control just to race towards the release date. the reason why they get away with this when Andromeda gets ridiculed for example along with microtransactions and absurdly high price on season passes is beyond me
Wow,Ubisoft should be ashamed of themselves for this shit..not AAA game should EVER have voice acting this horrible...this might be worse voice acting than in The Technomancer,of course Spider games get a pass for bad voice acting, they are AA developers and made The Technomancer at a fraction of what went into AC:Odyssey's budget
This is from the guy who wrote that bs areanet fires employee article that allowed no comments. Polygon and this guy lost a lot of respect because it didn’t even try to be factual or provide an even argument. This may be the case with this character but after that everything I read from this guy feels like it comes with an agenda.
My sentiments exactly. He might be being honest here but I just don't trust him or the site. They've been awful too many times. He may simply have wanted to promote the character because of gender and then 'disguised it' under the pretext of humor and animation. If he is genuine about those qualities then I have to also wonder, would he have written the same article promoting the male character? Or would he have just kept quiet? Let's not forget that Polygon gave us the article that claimed that Shadow of Mordor taught us that 'killing and kissing women feel the same', or some such crap. People here saying they've played both characters and prefer her voice actor and animations are far more trustworthy.
Polygon lost respect? Surprised they had any.
Oki guys honestly what to choose?? Tomb Raider or assassin creed odyssey??
Haven't played the new TR game but Odyssey is pretty good. Massive map, tons of stuff to do and lots of mechanics at play. Worth a play if you are interested
Haven't played Odyssey but really enjoyed shadow of the tomb raider, it looked amazing on the x.
sjw polygon strikes again.... i dont like kassandra, she looks like chyna the former wwe wrestler
The game is amazing! I think they both a decent enough.
I've been enjoying the game (Kassandra). While I can't comment on Alexios, I find it's less the voice acting and more the dialogue. There's moments where I go "wow, that was good" but there's more where I cringe and sigh. At times I question who/how some dialogue pieces are approved. This is no Mass Effect or Witcher level of quality (lol let's ignore Andromeda for the sake of my argument), but it's an enjoyable game I'm happy I own.
Fallout 4 had a better female VA. She cared more for the loss of Shaun and you could hear the grief of a mother. The male VA sounded much less concerned.
I am sure Polygon is very neutral and not biased at all/S
I havent played the game so i can't comment on who is better (acting, dialog) but i thought it was weird that in their first entry where you can choose to be either Alexios or Kassandra (not counting syndicate as they were separate characters) that only Alexios is in the cover.
Some day all of movies and games will feature only girls Disney, Star Wars, Future Marvel movies, more and more games. Good or bad I don't know yet
I like that they attempted to give player choice in their character, especially since it's becoming more of an RPG at this point. But I think that given the amount of time to develop (came out a year after Origins) and amount of resources needed to create well-fleshed character dialogues and interactions with all NPCs, they should have just stuck with either Kassandra or Alexios from the start. I mean, you can tell by the romances that feel pretty awkwardly done - not the homosexual love as it is well-documented from the poor to the military - but the dialogue and motion captures. I feel like if they focused on delivering it from one character and made the interactions more polished instead, then it would have been a better product in the end. However, I do feel like Kassandra has more character and is better portrayed in this game than Alexios. That's not to say she is amazing though as they both generally don't amaze or even do a great job I feel. They are kind of just "standard" or expected quality, which is unfortunate because they had some potential!
I agree. I get that everybody needs to be inclusive and representative but characters are better when you dump all of your time and money into one character. Unless it’s a largely silent protagonist like Prey then a multiple choice protagonist takes a hit in quality every time. If they want to do a chick then do a chick and make her a good character, nobody cares. Having 2 half baked characters doesn’t do anyone justice.
Not gonna lie I was most likely going to play as Kassandra, I enjoy playing as female characters, and yes I'm a straight as an arrow alpha male.
Dunno bro, sounds pretty soy to me./s
I can smell the sugar in your gas tank from here...
It is just because SJW. Kassandra has no place in a game based in that period of time. Female Spartan warriors were 0.00001%. Most were trained for sports at most, and not as warriors. This is just a case of SJW rotting historical elements just because they feel like it.
Well you need to look at this sir: https://www.ancient.eu/Cyna...
What is the big deal? Nothing wrong with Alexios, plus I don't wanna keep playing as chicks all the time. Tomb raider, horizon, darksiders, etc. Nice they at least give us the option.
I often choose the female side of games if I have a choice, and not just because I'd prefer to look at a woman's rump for dozens of hours. I just generally like to explore the road less traveled in games, and perceive the female route to be that. It's not an SJW thing, I just generally like seeing parts of games fewer players have, much like why I generally prefer magic classics over the classic warrior type in RPGs.
Whenever I'm given the choice of character (assuming same stats), I'll alway pick the female. Games give you the opportunity of different experiences... plus if I'm gonna be looking at their butt for the next 30 hours, I might as well improve the view.
'Woman is better than man.'- Every Polygon/kotaku article.
Good to know. Eventually when I get around to getting this game, I'll play as her for sure. Thanks for the heads up all.
Oh look, its Polygon.
Anything opinion based from Polygon is usually laced with their far left propaganda. This is no different.
Yea I pick Kassandra over Alexios! His acting is bad, and he look like an Ancient Greek Version Of Commander Shepard. Yes same likeness and animation from the 360/PS3 era on to this character.
For anyone in doubt about a female warrior fighting among Greek Men in real life, will be totally shocked that yes there was women who fought too. Women like Cynane Half-sister to Alexander The Great was know for her skills in hand to hand combat, and fought in battles with Alexander himself. https://www.ancient.eu/Cyna... Kassandra character as a female warrior in Greece is very accurate. There is so much history of female warriors everywhere that never made it to the history books. But I digress. Yes Kassandra acting is far better than Alexios acting. Even his facial animation looks strange and out of place too. Alexios look like a ancient Greek version of Commander Shepard from last gen.
Kassandra was my first choice even before getting the game. She is my misthios.
Not really. I played the first couple of hours with both and went with Alexios. Personal choice.
