GameOver: Disaster: Day of Crisis Review

GameOver writes: When in 2006 the E3 announced the Disaster: Day of Crisis, had attracted strong interest from the public than the minimum information originally given. Probably, this has to do with the fact that the production company was Monolith Soft, known for its highly successful series Xenosaga and Batten Kaitos, which was now regenerated as Nintendo team. With Nintendo's financial support and talent of Monolith Soft-as well as the promise of a film and interactive advertising experience as a Wii launch title-the title created a special feeling. And then, the absolute silence. Disaster totally disappeared from the limelight despite the constant reference to the Nintendo booklets in each game.

Suddenly, just at the beginning of September, many mini trailers appeared in Japanese television, announcing that the game will be released there in a couple of weeks and a little later in Europe. It is strange that the marketing of the title was so late and so poor, especially when we know that Nintendo had given a high budget for its production. Nevertheless, Disaster: Day of Crisis is finally here and we can see for ourselves this new adventure.

I can't wait to buy this, it looks awesome.

JonahNL5667d ago

I'm not sure about picking this one up. From the images and videos I've seen lately it looks like they gave the game a casual twist. Too bad. Too many AAA titles anyway, I'll see...

TheFreak5666d ago

the game is good but not great 6/10

BrotherNick5666d ago

Have you played it yet? I can't grade it till I play it :>

TheFreak5666d ago

yep I have played it came out today :)

ChickeyCantor5666d ago

isn't good in most cases an 8, and great a 9+?
6 = decent?

Mahr5666d ago

Different people have different definitions on how to quantify videogame quality.

For example, here's Gamespot's system.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

A 6 is "Fair" and an 8 is "Great" with "Good" lying in between at 7.

Personally, I'm more interested in the words people have to say about games than I am in the score at the end.

ChickeyCantor5666d ago

I hate ratings to be honest, because people go apesh/t when something is a 6.

so yeah i agreei rather hear words.

6-7=good 8-9=great 10=fantastic.

reviewers are giving out perfect scores way to often these days.

I purchased this game yesterday, and like most others was a little worried over the fact that it has taken so long and obviously the hype surrounding it.

This is without a doubt one of the Wii's better titles, graphically superior to most. Although there are some considerations with the character models of the non main characters. However you will see that although lower in detail these have been a given a sort of anime twist which kind of blends two styles and works.

You may heave read about the AI of the enemy and think this game will be a breeze, not so!. Although the enemy may randomly stop shooting and stand there, there are simply so many just keep coming. In fact this could one of the downsides as you find yourself thinking just what the game keeps saying "when is it gonna end".

The immersion into the game is paramount and you can clearly see this has paid off, not too much waggle, plenty of exploration along with high adrenalin action sequences.

One negative i have, would be the stamina system. The analogue stick used for walk and run movements is far to sensitive, which results in you running by mistake and using your stamina up, which depletes very quickly.

Finish it and you will find a wealth of unlockables as well as the hundred+ rescues throughout the game, oh and customizable weapons galore!.

The gave gives very generous checkpoints throughout so even non hard core gamers can enjoy this, as when dead can restart from several checkpoints that are automatically saved.

Disaster is certainly a worth-while purchase and one that you must have in your games collection, Monolith have done a great job not only in pushing the wii but showing that the Wii should have more Hardcore games.

I am pretty sure the sales from this title could start making developers think twice against minigame collections.

Graphics 8/10 (couldn't give anymore due to forest level detail and enemy characters.

Sound 7/10 ( Music and most sounds very atmospheric, just footsteps let this down)

Replay value 10/10 You will come back and back again, loads to unlock and the points system works great.

Gameplay 9/10 So many ways to play, all done very well. Admittedly several elements borrowed from other games, but as these are the best parts of them rolled into one we wont complain.

Overall review

This game gets a 90% from me, The other ten would have required slightly improved graphics to characters, the sound of footsteps altered, and i would have liked to have seen scenes where the gamer during gunfights can move around to other hiding locations.

Exceptional game for the Wii and a must for your game collection.
