No way black flag was that big, it was the same size as Origins, remember clearly they said that the land mass in Origins was the same size as the whole map of black flag.

Lighter92392d ago

Did you the land/water ratio?

smolinsk2392d ago

Map to map, odysseys map is 60% bigger all in all.

TheGoodestBoi2392d ago

I love exploring Odyssey s map. From finding unique side quests or materials and gear

smolinsk2392d ago

Odysseys map is 250 mile2 so yes this article is way off.

alexgibson2392d ago

My measurement isn't exact, but there is no way on earth Odyssey is 250 miles squared. Perhaps you mean kilometers?

smolinsk2392d ago (Edited 2392d ago )

Not sure the measurements, but look here odysseys map are over double as big as origin not even close. A lot of sites states that.

And again here.

alexgibson2392d ago

Ok, so you're a bit confused here. First, you're actually quoting our website as one of your sources, but not interpreting the data correctly. Second, the other websites are using the measure kilometers squared, not miles -- that's very significant. According to your sources here, my own measurements are basically exactly the same. I'd argue that Gearnuke is wrong because they're not factoring in the corners of the map you can't access. They're just quoting the dimensions and working out the square area -- but you can't actually traverse some of that, hence why my measurement is more conservative.

smolinsk2392d ago

It's very clear that the map of odyssey is very much bigger then origins, by a land slide. Not even sure what the we are talking about here. All other sites states that as well.

If we are talking land mass only then it would still be bigger. But we and you in the article is talking full map to map comparison.

smolinsk2392d ago

So what is it you are saying, in miles or kilometers, same same if both are measured in the same. So Origins is 90miles2 and so is odysseys map, but if you measure in kilometers the the outcome is 250 to 90? Or something?

smolinsk2391d ago

I'm talking of course about black flag being the same size as Origins and odysseys map being way bigger the the two maps, every site on the internet say that, a lot bigger.

alexgibson2391d ago

Origins is not 90. Who said that? You're confused. Origins is 30, Odyssey and Black Flag are nearly identical at 90.

The series died for me with Black Flag, the last Assassinns Creed game you actually were an Assassin and not battling in the open with your identity and exposed

King_Noctis2392d ago

If they want to go the RPG route, they should have named this game something else and leave Assassin’s Creed alone.

Lord_Sloth2392d ago

I still feel like an assassin. I go in all sneaky beaky like, hit my target, then leave. Hell in Unity I did an assassination and absolutely zero guards knew I was there, even after the kill. XXXD

Sam Fisher2392d ago

Im more impressed that you played unity at all. That game was and still is garbage

mogwaii2391d ago (Edited 2391d ago )

I actually liked unity and didn't suffer any of the glitches alot of people were banging on about, I doubt it was as wide spread as they made out.
I play it just how you play it but I realise that if you don't play like that you can still get through especially with origins, it's basically a hack n slash.

Lord_Sloth2391d ago

You can get through MGS just blasting bullets as well but that doesn't take away from the stealth. AC is fun no matter how I play it and my mood changes from mission to mission.

goldwyncq2392d ago

Except you weren't really an assassin in that game.

SilverDemon2391d ago

Dude.... you weren't an assassin in that game, you were a pirate

The brotherhood even asked Edward (the main character) to join them but he refused

AspiringProGenji2391d ago

he was an assassin without even realizing it, then upon learning about the brotherhood he refused but still operated under the mantle of an assassin. Sure you did more pirate stuff than assassination, but he was still an assassin

SilverDemon2391d ago

He had the talent to be an assassin but he wasn't an assassin.

Just because you are good at cooking doesn't mean you are a chef (have you ever heard of someone who is a pilot or a cop without realizing it?)

As I said, he REFUSED to join the brotherhood and decided to remain a pirate over becoming an assassin

The Open-World Genre In Gaming Has A Quantity Over Quality Problem

More developers need to focus on what makes open-world games like Elden Ring and RDR2 pop, instead of focusing on needless map expansions.

KyRo238d ago

Open world games need a overhaul in general.

Go here - kill this target
Go here - fetch this
Clear this camp
Add dozens of filler side quests
Tack on a RPG skill tree
Finish up with a couple of hundred collectables

98 percent of open world games follow this game design and it's boring now after nearly a decade of following this same design.

anast238d ago

Maybe they know what it takes to make an engaging open-world, but they won't. For most publishers, managers probably get bonuses for finding ways to cut corners.

IAMRealHooman238d ago

yes. Every ubisoft like is overly large map. just to say it's huge with nothing in it.
Love'em or hate'em a yakuza game is a significantly smaller map, with a lot of side activities and absurd quest lines.trying the different restaurants in game can be enjoyable as they offer different buffs, do that or make traversal so good you wouldn't dare fast travel ie Spiderman

YourMommySpoils238d ago (Edited 238d ago )

Stellar Blade says hello.

The only quality game to come out this year.

exputers238d ago

While true, that one's not a full open-world. Pretty much like God of War Ragnarok.

YourMommySpoils238d ago

Not sure how everyone judges this. If that's the case, that would mean even The Witcher 3 isn't open world and just semi maps slowly unlocked.

Technically, we wanted more money.

bradfh518d ago

Call of Duty already does this; Ubisoft and other game companies will follow suit and explore similar approaches.

Kaii518d ago

Congratulations, A technical error In displaying ads while playing.
EU consumer law needs to chew these assholes a new one.

TheColbertinator518d ago

At this point the entire EU commission must be bribed

Christopher518d ago

The big note here is the built in ad-displays during gameplay and not that they happened. Start screen, cool. Gameplay? That shouldn't ever happen.

Yi-Long517d ago (Edited 517d ago )

"Start screen, cool."

Uhm, no. Start screen very much NOT cool either. There really need to be new laws implemented banning these companies from shoving ads down out throats at every opportunity they see fit.

Crows90517d ago

For free to play which is a market of games needing monetization through different venues. In those games this stuff is fine by me. But when you pay ..20, 40 ,60, or $70 that's when it is not okay to any degree.

jznrpg517d ago

Start screen not cool either

walken7518d ago

They're testing the waters, vote with your wallets.

porkChop518d ago

That's not a technical error. An ad can't be displayed mid-game without you creating the code/tech to make that possible first.
