'Tomb Raider' Cosplayer Nails the Classic Lara Croft Look

CB writes: "With Shadow of the Tomb Raider out now for players to enjoy, and the official end of Lara Croft's origins arc, it's time for a Croft-y blast from the past with a more classic style. And now, it's not Polygon Lara either.

The cosplayer in question goes by the name 'CutiePieSensei' and she is no stranger to amazing work!"

She looks nothing like Lara in any way. Wearing a blue tank top with booty shorts doesn't make the outfit.

ninsigma2397d ago

umm, yes it does...
Those are the clothes classic lara wears and it's plain to see that's what she's going for. What else are you looking for??

ninsigma2397d ago

Lmao
Well there are cosplay ears out there (at least 1 anyway) who do include the triangle boobs if you're looking for THAT level of authenticity xD

https://i.redd.it/nkaz45b37...

There ya go :p

Critic4l_Strik32397d ago

Short shorts, blue tank top, strap gun holsters, gloves...that's an instant Lara Croft resemblance right there

ninsigma2396d ago

@skull
Yes and if this were a casting call for a movie then I'd agree but it's cosplay, which is open for anyone to cosplay any character they like, skin color be damned.

bouzebbal2396d ago

Wouldn't say it's her with some other clothing

Skull5212396d ago

Yeah well I could do a spot on Obama cosplay and you just look at me like I was just a white guy in a suit. No one would be praising me for nailing it.

2396d ago
mikeslemonade2396d ago

Lara is white, not black. So it's not nailed. You wouldn't say a white woman trying to cosplay as Michelle Obama as nailing it. Double standards these days.

ninsigma2395d ago

If you were to dress up as the Obamas you would just look like people wearing clothes. There's nothing distinguishing about the clothes they wear that would tell people that's who you were trying to be. But if you were get the same haircut and do a killer impersonation then yes you would have nailed it. Like, a black man dressing up as Obama would just look like a black man in a suit. There's nothing to say they're specifically trying to be Obama. So the skin color is irrelevant.

This cosplayer has put together an out fit that is fairly recognisable as being lara croft. It's plain to see who this girl is trying to be so the differing skin color to the original makes no difference. Seriously guys, we're talking about someone who's dressing up to celebrate a character they like, making a big deal out of having different skin color is a bit ridiculous. Cosplay is for everyone to be dress up as whoever they want.

mikeslemonade2391d ago

^
Yea there is apart from clothes for Obama. For Michelle obama you wear like red dress shoe hells, a purple medium dress, add hip enhancer, and wear a more thick or fro style hair wig.

Skin color has something to do with it.

Zeref2396d ago

that literally makes the outfit. IT IS THE LITERALL DEFINITION of an outfit.

I agree she doesn't LOOK like lara as in her appearance but who has triangle boobs? she definitely nailed the outfit. It kind of even looks like it's that classic simple colored 3D look.

MasterCornholio2396d ago

And who has a face made out of polygons?

medman2396d ago

Huh...certain folks don't seem to be bothered that the image of Jesus in the western world is a white washed version of a man who the vast preponderance of biblical historians say looked a lot more like Nelson Mandela or Osama Bin Laden in complexion than Jim Caviezel. Typical.

milohighclub2395d ago (Edited 2395d ago )

Y'all a bit fucking racist ain't ya!? 😲

Heads up guys.. she's a fictional character, Santa ain't real, your dads the tooth fairy, Jesus was black and your mum regrets having you.

Also to you guys saying lara is white, she was the daughter of a British aristocrat, they used to have relations with black slaves and also used to own and rape them. saying she must be white because she's the daughter of a British aristocrat holds no merit...

It's like a whole period of history has been lost to you.
There's nothing in the more that says she must be white.

-Foxtrot2397d ago

Outfit sure but overall looks...no

It’s like if you had a white guy dressing up as Blade, he’d look just like a white guy in a trench coat with shades.

For fun cosplay is cosplay. Doesn’t matter who you are or what race but when someone tries to make out how true or accurate someone is, hell even if it was a cosplay competition then it’s different.

Godmars2902397d ago

Wouldn't make him any less of a Blade fan though.

The issue, or non issue, at hand is if its between someone who put in any amount of effort into dressing like a character while someone else just says or hold up a sign saying they're the character, will the race of the person be a factor.

-Foxtrot2397d ago

I didn’t even comment about questioning the persons commitment of being a fan...that has nothing to do with what I’m saying

For fun or going to cons it’s fair enough but for people to push this like the article that it’s a complete 100% look as the character when it’s not...sorry.

Imagine a competition where you’ve dressed as Lara with the exact same outfit along with the same standard of quality as her in the article, yet you loose to her in the end despite you looking more like her...I mean I’d be p*****

ameliabaz2397d ago

I agree. People who cosplay do it because they love a certain game or character. It's awesome seeing that sort of dedication to games when there are usually so many negative news pieces about gaming in general. So it sucks that there are people in the gaming community who will criticize a cosplayer for being inaccurate because they just so happen to be born a different race than the character they might love. This girl has a spot-on Lara Croft cosplay and being black doesn't make it any less accurate than if a white girl cosplayed her. People say race shouldn't matter when it comes to what characters you connect with, yet we see time and time again that there are people who DO think race matters and who DO think people should stick to cosplaying characters from their own race.

Godmars2902397d ago

What if she *does* something to be distinguished as Croft? Pulls off some acrobatic trick that other contestants can't.

Or imagine losing out to someone who's put no effort in whatsoever. Getting dismissed out of hand from any kind of competition or any other kind of event that recognizes you as a fan only because of the color of your skin.

Pozzle2397d ago

I remember that happened with a Final Fantasy cosplay contest once. A Tifa cosplayer won because she looked the most like Tifa, even though her cosplay was just a t-shirt, black skirt and a pair of Nikes. She didn't even have proper suspenders, it was a belt she'd just thrown around her shoulders (it wasn't even connected to her skirt iirc). Meanwhile there were plenty of cosplayers who'd made Sephiroth, Cloud and Vincent outfits from scratch...but they didn't win because they weren't 'hot' .

KaaF2397d ago (Edited 2397d ago )

I'm sorry, you want a human being with the overall looks of classic Lara? Is this a joke?

https://archaeologyoftombra...

FYI, the original Lara was supposed to be a Latina. The cosplay itself is not well done, almost no detail whatsoever.

Cobra9512397d ago

Since when is a member of the British aristocracy a latina?

BVFTW2396d ago (Edited 2396d ago )

I don't know why the SJWs always have to tantrum about race. Yeah, an early version of Lara was supposed to be a Latina named Laura Cruz, but even before that character they had a red head, green eyed girl in mind and she was illustrated in promotional material as well. They also used an Indiana Jones lookalike in early development before switching to a girl, none of that came to be and the original Lara of today is what she is. Do you want to keep whining about imaginary things? Gosh, I'm Latin and I'm fed up with P.C. culture and "its" loonies.

Eidolon2396d ago (Edited 2396d ago )

I agree, she's prettied up. fit, but really just modeling the clothes, any of thousands of similar figured models can put on the same costume and call it cosplay. Nothing special, and at this point, it's just gawking at a pretty girl.

2396d ago
medman2396d ago

Huh...ignorant folks don't seem to be bothered that the image of Jesus in the western world is a white washed version of a man who the vast preponderance of biblical historians say looked a lot more like Nelson Mandela or Osama Bin Laden in complexion than Jim Caviezel. Typical.

rainslacker2396d ago

"It’s like if you had a white guy dressing up as Blade, he’d look just like a white guy in a trench coat with shades."

So....then wouldn't people just assume he's cosplaying as Neo from The Matrix then?

isarai197d ago

That's not even a good template 😞 ugh this is gonna suck

Killer2020UK195d ago

What's gonna suck?

This is an opinion piece that has zero bearing on production of the hypothetical 12th installment of Tomb Raider.

Sciurus_vulgaris197d ago

The animated Netflix series is a sequel to Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Also, Netflix distributed this show, the company uses external production companies for most of its content. The show doesn’t provide a template for Crystal Dynamics [who was credited in production of the show], the Lara in the show is the one from the 2013 reboot series, and wasn’t reimagined for the show.

mastershredder196d ago (Edited 196d ago )

A perfect buleprint to be considered for awards you mean. Yeah, this will pander perfectly.

SimpleDad196d ago

If they want to lose money... sure, the blueprint is perfect.

live-action Atwell? ... during early 2010s she would've nailed it ... but now ... dunno man

Nacho_Z196d ago

I know what you mean, but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing her play a slightly more mature version of the character. She's only 42 so still fine for all the action scenes.

Elantregaless196d ago

Get Brie Larsen to play new 'Lara Croft'

Elantregaless195d ago (Edited 195d ago )

Shh. Play along. Trust the plan.

aaronaton196d ago

The series is an abomination, and if she had anything about her, having read the script..... she should of declined.

cloganart196d ago

It sounds like you are just mad the show Lara's bosom is not as big as your triangle titty delusions.

Michiel1989196d ago

Lara is a fullblown lesbian crybaby in the anime, another character that was completely a ladies man has been made gay and is now her bff moral support, surely we only care about her tits instead of character development.

cloganart196d ago (Edited 196d ago )

@Michiel1989

All you chuds care about is sexuality and gender, it's hilarious. You've turned into the SJWs you've targeted and hated, getting triggered by anything and everything 🤣 https://i.imgur.com/dMBfwtF...

Michiel1989196d ago (Edited 196d ago )

Okay I didn't know that but what about the rest I said?....Lara was one of the strongest most badass protagonist in gaming and now she just cries half of the show. If that's a version of Lara that you want, more power to you, it's not for me.

and you care only about others caring about boobies. The only one who is talking about her tits is you my man. He said something about script and you started talking about her boobs.

The classical "you're just triggered" argument so you don't have to reply anything substantial and just say that, that's the sign of someone losing a discussion and not knowing what to say.

mastershredder196d ago

The most sickening part of all of this is not even that the IP is getting gutted not to be inclusive, it’s ONLY done so to be considered for awards and a funding for the next project. That’s it. It’s as pointless as a fortune 500 company virtue signaling during pride month. The bottom line is they will do the compliance dance and shell out anything to continue the cash flow, Just like the willing this VO actress people are fanning up to ^.

Also, who give a 7uck what the voice actress thinks or what she’s doing? This site is about games., not voice actors day dreams.
