“Assassin’s Creed Odyssey doesn’t reach the heights of Origins and is marred by several optimization issues.“

Glad someone had the nerve to come out and say it. The Animations are subpar and it’s not as poslihed as Origins.

Kribwalker2411d ago

Origins got an extra year of Dev time compared to typical AC releases. They probably should have given this one more time too

TheColbertinator2411d ago

@Krib
Ubisoft wanted the quick easy $$$

BenRC012410d ago

They were developed simultaneously according to ign so odyssey actual had an extra year.

Blackbird22852410d ago

So did Odyssey. Since the release date for Origins was pushed back a year, technically so was that of AC Odyssey.

foster4262411d ago

Origins had insane pop in and the combat was glitchy

ziggurcat2411d ago

I've never considered AC games to be any kind of bastion of performance.

porkChop2411d ago

Origins is incredibly well optimized considering the scope of the game and how good it looks.

oasdada2411d ago

Scope and gfx? Lol runs like shit on k y 1070? Wonder what would happen if something as good as spiderman was on pc from ubisoft? A consistent 20 fps is my guess lol

playnice2411d ago (Edited 2411d ago )

you should see how well optimized the Switch version is !! ( :P )

Lynx02072410d ago

@oasdada
It would run great, pobably. Just compare the scope of Spiderman and AC:O. In Spiderman they had to use many (amazing) tricks to make it look like the living city. In AC:O there is very diverse world with hundreds real time generated things happening on every scene.
Does it run like s*? Sure, sometimes it does, I had some drops below 60 fps in the cities but there is no way you could even compare AC:O world to Spiderman. If you really have to, compare it to Horizon: Zero Dawn - there you can see real magic (in 30 fps, but it is amazing nontheless).

Dani_i892410d ago

I haven't been a fan of AC since the 360 however Origins played superbly on the X. Thoroughly enjoyed that game despite its average story

TheOptimist2411d ago (Edited 2411d ago )

The combat looks crap wew.... What is this? And the world feels dead really, like static. Can't really pin it down.

Larrysweet2411d ago

No have u played or seen reviews world compared to witcher 3s

smolinsk2411d ago

Its in the detail, look at how more alive Red dead 2 looks compare to this, its all in the details

DrumBeat2411d ago

That's true, but Red Dead 2 has been in development how long compared to this?

rdgneoz32411d ago

@drum. They're not starting over from scratch. No new engine. They're building off previous games that gave been pumped out every couple of years. They could have polished the animations and made it feel more alive. If they care about quality, they'd take their time releasing a polished product.

Movefasta19932410d ago

i haven't played odyssey, but origins had amazing attention to detail.

kevnb2411d ago (Edited 2411d ago )

Funny thing is reviews are high, but it seems like there is barely any hype for this game. It’s like reviewers gave it the score origins should have got.

Dani_i892410d ago

I don't trust reviews anymore. My bet is that the reviews surrounding this game are high because of the politics. Ubisoft cucked out and denounced the fact that they've never offered female characters before (other tha Liberty). Ironic considering the best AC character was a womanising white male. Playing as a Spartan female in ancient Greece just seems more like a political plot as opposed to an innovative feature

annoyedgamer2410d ago

Reviewers get goodies as a form of bribery. Ubisoft and EA do this alot.

Dani_i892410d ago

If there were only 2 AC games a generation then the series would probably be amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed Origins however have zero interest in Odyssey. It's too much too often

KickSpinFilter2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

Has nothing to do with a female character, but it is It's too much too often.
Didn't the last AC come out just 6 months ago LOL

Digital Foundry praised this title

orbital712411d ago

will wait for a torrent to see how it fares on my pc before i buy

Gaming4Life19812411d ago

Lol long live torrents.

I want this as I loved orgins but everyone I know who has this game says it's not better than orgins. Orgins also runs great on my xbox one x. I have a gaming PC but I hate having to fix most games I have on PC before i can play. My rig is outdated though.

Casepb2411d ago

You will be waiting a month before it gets cracked.

playnice2411d ago

https://store.steampowered.... There, saved you the wait. You get 2 hours to try it out before you ask for a credit back... not bad?

Psychotica2410d ago

Is it ok if I "borrow" your PC just to make sure I like the game?

Assassin’s Creed Is Coming To Reverse: 1999

In an unusual pairing, Assassin’s Creed Is Coming To Reverse: 1999.

Seth_hun7d ago

What the hell is Reverse 1999? :)

goken7d ago

Apparently it’s some Gacha thingy…

Kekewei7d ago

Why is it listed as today's hottest, nobody cares about it here...

Servbot417d ago

Ubisoft buying their way to the top. They always have the shittiest advertisement ideas, like flooding videos and comment sections with obvious bots.

Garethvk7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

I think it is more of a global appeal versus a U.S. market.

Garethvk7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Obviously they do or there would not be the hits on it. Even Google picked it up for their news feed.

The Open-World Genre In Gaming Has A Quantity Over Quality Problem

More developers need to focus on what makes open-world games like Elden Ring and RDR2 pop, instead of focusing on needless map expansions.

KyRo254d ago

Open world games need a overhaul in general.

Go here - kill this target
Go here - fetch this
Clear this camp
Add dozens of filler side quests
Tack on a RPG skill tree
Finish up with a couple of hundred collectables

98 percent of open world games follow this game design and it's boring now after nearly a decade of following this same design.

anast254d ago

Maybe they know what it takes to make an engaging open-world, but they won't. For most publishers, managers probably get bonuses for finding ways to cut corners.

IAMRealHooman254d ago

yes. Every ubisoft like is overly large map. just to say it's huge with nothing in it.
Love'em or hate'em a yakuza game is a significantly smaller map, with a lot of side activities and absurd quest lines.trying the different restaurants in game can be enjoyable as they offer different buffs, do that or make traversal so good you wouldn't dare fast travel ie Spiderman

YourMommySpoils254d ago (Edited 254d ago )

Stellar Blade says hello.

The only quality game to come out this year.

exputers254d ago

While true, that one's not a full open-world. Pretty much like God of War Ragnarok.

YourMommySpoils254d ago

Not sure how everyone judges this. If that's the case, that would mean even The Witcher 3 isn't open world and just semi maps slowly unlocked.

jznrpg8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Was with you until the only quality game part. Plenty of great games this year. It also came out last year

jznrpg8d ago

Some are great some are not. That’s the same for any genre. There are tons of Metroidvania’s, some are great some are not, souls games etc etc

Ubisoft blames “technical error” for showing pop-up ads in Assassin’s Creed

A fullscreen pop-up ad appeared in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for some players this week.

Einhander1972534d ago

Technically, we wanted more money.

bradfh534d ago

Call of Duty already does this; Ubisoft and other game companies will follow suit and explore similar approaches.

Kaii534d ago

Congratulations, A technical error In displaying ads while playing.
EU consumer law needs to chew these assholes a new one.

TheColbertinator534d ago

At this point the entire EU commission must be bribed

Christopher534d ago

The big note here is the built in ad-displays during gameplay and not that they happened. Start screen, cool. Gameplay? That shouldn't ever happen.

Yi-Long533d ago (Edited 533d ago )

"Start screen, cool."

Uhm, no. Start screen very much NOT cool either. There really need to be new laws implemented banning these companies from shoving ads down out throats at every opportunity they see fit.

Crows90533d ago

For free to play which is a market of games needing monetization through different venues. In those games this stuff is fine by me. But when you pay ..20, 40 ,60, or $70 that's when it is not okay to any degree.

jznrpg533d ago

Start screen not cool either

walken7534d ago

They're testing the waters, vote with your wallets.

porkChop534d ago

That's not a technical error. An ad can't be displayed mid-game without you creating the code/tech to make that possible first.
