Assassin's Creed Odyssey Review - IGN

Assassin's Creed Odyssey's open-world adventure through ancient Greece is a gorgeous thrill, and the best the series has ever been.

CarlDechance2406d ago (Edited 2406d ago )

Wow.....impressive score. Time to preorder.

elazz2406d ago

You can pre order if you want but looking at the track record it's best to read if there are not any game breaking bugs. Sometimes these things are barely mentioned

CarlDechance2406d ago

I’ve already talked directly to a reviewer of the game. He would tell me if the game had major issues. Feel pretty confident that is not the case based on his feedback. And his score is in line with IGN’s.

TheKingKratos2406d ago

Had no bugs or glitchs in Origins on ps4 pro

2406d ago
CarlDechance2406d ago

"Reviewers reported that the game keeps crashing on PC."

What reviewers?

antz11042406d ago

Really? Origins didn't have any bugs and it was amazing.

UltraNova2405d ago

All this positive buzz about Assassin's Creed and I'm still torn...I haven't been able to get excited by another AC game in years(black flag was my last one)...even aftet the last two are seemingly great games...

Even the must play RDR 2 doesn't excite me that much simply because I'm fed up with huge open worlds filled to the brim with mundane chores...

Maybe I'll pick up Odyssey down the line simply because it actually sounds like a pretty good game this time.

IGN are the same people who gave Spider-Man 8.7, while giving Shadow of Tomb Radar a 9 while other outlets gave Tome radar much lower scores(Gamespot 6). I don’t take there reviews seriously any more. But still I will be purchasing this game.

CarlDechance2406d ago

Three different games. Three different reviewers. IGN is not one person.

Jrios3552406d ago (Edited 2406d ago )

Different reviewers with different opinions at IGN. Why is that so hard to understand?

Poopmist2406d ago

I wouldn't use Gamespot as an example. They did fire someone for that Kane&Lynch thing.

RookieMonsterLives2406d ago

IGN gave God of War a perfect 10 while other outlets like Gamespot gave it a 9. Different reviewers and different opinions. Why is people so upset that one reviewer gave a game higher or lower than another game on a certain site?

Kribwalker2406d ago (Edited 2406d ago )

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a fantastic game. i’m 68% complete at about 30hrs in it. The only thing i don’t like is the lame repeat death animations.

Ac Creed looks great. i usually get it for christmas from the mrs so i can wait to play it, but i will be playing this one for sure

SegaGamer2406d ago

So what you are saying is that we all have to have the same opinions?

starchild2406d ago

You're assuming everyone is going to agree that one game is better than another, but that isn't the case. We all have our own opinions. Dozens of reviewers gave Shadow of the Tomb Raider high scores. I happen to think it's a really great game too.

chiefJohn1172406d ago (Edited 2406d ago )

Donkey of the day goes to WANNA GET HIGH he believes all opinions are shared, he thinks because someone rated a game lower then another game mean anyone rating that lower game higher must be invalid but some reason don't think the opposite way???? Maybe the other reviews are wrong or maybe? Just maybe it's their personal opinion and taste. OMG 🤯 shocker huh?

Hehonheon (donkey noise lol)

UNCHARTED2FANATIC2406d ago

GameSpot reviews are definitely more reliable. I got burned on tomb raider 2016 because of ign praising it. My fault for taking IGN seriously

jagermaster6192406d ago

Just because you thought Spiderman was the best game ever made doesn't mean everyone else does!

alb18992406d ago

Get over it! Everyone has different opinions and there are more than one reviewer on IGN

AngainorG7X2405d ago (Edited 2405d ago )

You don't take them seriously because they gave Spiderman 8.7??? Seriously??? They gave God of War 10. It's their opinion dude. Plus we all know gamespot is trash.

Seraphim2405d ago (Edited 2405d ago )

this is where you guys fail. Gaming journalists should not be basing reviews on their opinions. They should be writing quality pieces about the games merit. Not their own interests and opinions. By your logic allowing anyone with an opinion to be a gaming journalist any ole fanboy who can score a gig writing for a website can rate bad games 10 and good games 7 because it's their opinion? Or you get a reviewer who doesn't even like, for instance, RPGs and writes a scathing review about a fantastic game. I understand opinion far too often is the case in reviews. But as journalists they should set their opinion aside and write/review games based off the merits of said game.

Ubisoft employee? I am interested in this game but scores won’t make me play it any sooner especially preorder, and definitely not IGNs opinion. It has been getting good scores overall and that’s great. But playing DQ 11 right now (turn on draconian features especially harder enemies it’s a great game) still need to play SpiderMan ,Red Dead is out soon just started Xenoblade expansion and that’s not including my backlog . Assasins Creed Games always drop in price so quickly and If they didn’t put out so many games maybe I would play it sooner but it’s another AC game that can be put behind some other games regardless of how good it is. Only way I’d pick this up before end of year is if it was a bad year of games but it isn’t.

CarlDechance2406d ago

"Ubisoft employee?"

Because only Ubisoft employees preorder Ubisoft games? sigh....come on. I do like Ubisoft games. I too am playing DQ XI and loving it. Already got the platinum for Spider-man. Waiting on the DLC. I'm not expecting a major price drop anytime soon for Odyssey. The review scores are too good. And am somewhere along the way, I'm going to have to fit some Forza Horizon racing into my schedule. Busy time of year for a gamer!

Notellin2406d ago

You could wait until Black Friday and get this game 35$ or less (most likely 29.99 which was the price of Origins or 24.99 if a retailer decides to get crazy).

One month roughly 50% savings. I've done this with Unity, Syndicate, Origins and will do the same in this case.

Definitely no reason to pre-order or get day one for this series.

Unless you're a die hard fan just wait a month.

Relientk772406d ago

Nice, can't wait to play it. I loved Origins.

lelo2play2406d ago

Yep, looks good to me. Probable get it on release...

jznrpg2406d ago

I like the rpg elements they speak of but I won’t grab it until it drops 20$ or so.

Silly Mammo2406d ago (Edited 2406d ago )

AC games usually get a nice discount during the Black Friday Sales. I usually wait until then to pick it up. Got to finish Spider-man and then on to RDR2.

cfc832406d ago (Edited 2406d ago )

IGN get nice gifts from ubi. Best check sites who don't get bribes. It would appear to be getting 8's and 9's so......

-Foxtrot2406d ago

I remember them showing off their AC goodies and amazingly press kits years ago but they don’t do it anymore...obvious why.

Neonridr2406d ago

that would ring true if IGN's score was way above everyone else, but it seems to be in line with plenty of other reviews..

CarlDechance2406d ago

Exactly. Metacritic is currently 86. It isn't like IGN is way off here. Seems like some folks here are wanting this game to be bad or something. I don't get it.

RookieMonsterLives2406d ago (Edited 2406d ago )

It is currently scoring about the same as Spider-Man on Metacritic and I absolutely love that game as do many on here as well. The only reason I can think of the hate for the score is IGN scoring this game higher than Spider-Man and it isn't sitting well with some people here. At the end of the day, just enjoy the games and leave the politics behind.

cfc832406d ago

True. I did point out it's getting 8's and 9's elsewhere. AC isn't really a franchise i've cared about since the Ezio days.

nix2405d ago

Some of the perfect 10, I agree with but after giving 10 for GTA IV I finally stopped believing on reviews. Nowadays I'm too wise to make my own decision.

The Open-World Genre In Gaming Has A Quantity Over Quality Problem

More developers need to focus on what makes open-world games like Elden Ring and RDR2 pop, instead of focusing on needless map expansions.

KyRo246d ago

Open world games need a overhaul in general.

Go here - kill this target
Go here - fetch this
Clear this camp
Add dozens of filler side quests
Tack on a RPG skill tree
Finish up with a couple of hundred collectables

98 percent of open world games follow this game design and it's boring now after nearly a decade of following this same design.

anast246d ago

Maybe they know what it takes to make an engaging open-world, but they won't. For most publishers, managers probably get bonuses for finding ways to cut corners.

IAMRealHooman246d ago

yes. Every ubisoft like is overly large map. just to say it's huge with nothing in it.
Love'em or hate'em a yakuza game is a significantly smaller map, with a lot of side activities and absurd quest lines.trying the different restaurants in game can be enjoyable as they offer different buffs, do that or make traversal so good you wouldn't dare fast travel ie Spiderman

YourMommySpoils246d ago (Edited 246d ago )

Stellar Blade says hello.

The only quality game to come out this year.

exputers246d ago

While true, that one's not a full open-world. Pretty much like God of War Ragnarok.

YourMommySpoils246d ago

Not sure how everyone judges this. If that's the case, that would mean even The Witcher 3 isn't open world and just semi maps slowly unlocked.

jznrpg12h ago(Edited 12h ago)

Was with you until the only quality game part. Plenty of great games this year. It also came out last year

jznrpg12h ago

Some are great some are not. That’s the same for any genre. There are tons of Metroidvania’s, some are great some are not, souls games etc etc

Ubisoft blames “technical error” for showing pop-up ads in Assassin’s Creed

A fullscreen pop-up ad appeared in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for some players this week.

Einhander1972526d ago

Technically, we wanted more money.

bradfh526d ago

Call of Duty already does this; Ubisoft and other game companies will follow suit and explore similar approaches.

Kaii526d ago

Congratulations, A technical error In displaying ads while playing.
EU consumer law needs to chew these assholes a new one.

TheColbertinator526d ago

At this point the entire EU commission must be bribed

Christopher526d ago

The big note here is the built in ad-displays during gameplay and not that they happened. Start screen, cool. Gameplay? That shouldn't ever happen.

Yi-Long525d ago (Edited 525d ago )

"Start screen, cool."

Uhm, no. Start screen very much NOT cool either. There really need to be new laws implemented banning these companies from shoving ads down out throats at every opportunity they see fit.

Crows90525d ago

For free to play which is a market of games needing monetization through different venues. In those games this stuff is fine by me. But when you pay ..20, 40 ,60, or $70 that's when it is not okay to any degree.

jznrpg525d ago

Start screen not cool either

walken7526d ago

They're testing the waters, vote with your wallets.

porkChop526d ago

That's not a technical error. An ad can't be displayed mid-game without you creating the code/tech to make that possible first.
