The map is enormous, Origins was half of the size of Odyssey, so they filled traversal between islands with naval combat.

Marcus Fenix2439d ago

"Origins was half of the size of Odyssey", really?, did they announce that?, coz origins was huuuuuuuuuuge, I've 100% almost everything in that game and it really took a lot of time & effort, planning to do the same with Odyssey.

Smokehouse2439d ago

“The map will cover 130km² which is 62% bigger than AC Origin’s 80km². However, the land mass will be less than Origins as the majority of the map is sea.”

From the article. I like the look of the map. I’m actually pretty hyped about this one even though it has nothing to do with assassins.

starchild2439d ago

@Smokehouse

Well the conflict over First Civilization artifacts predates either the Templars or Brotherhood, as any fan of the series should well know. Why do I really care if I'm playing a proto-assassin and doing all the same kinds of things I've always done in these games? Especially since it still takes place in the same universe and fleshes out more of the story of how things got to be how they are. It seems like such an insignificant thing to care about. Clearly the game offers the kind of world and gameplay that Assassin's Creed is known for. I think there's room to explore this aspect of Assassin's Creed lore and this time period. There will certainly be future Assassin's Creed games where you are back to playing an assassin from the Brotherhood.

I know you're still excited to play it so I guess on some level you agree with me.

Sono4212438d ago

The same people who complain about yearly releases also get Assassin's creed and act like it is some golden exception from being a cash grab, sorry but no. Same game every year and you still buy it, congrats.

Origins was huge. I never finished the game but I was half like on lvl 30 and hadn't gone to half the places and hadn't finished more than half the activities and already played what was = to 4-5 AC games within just 50% of Origins.

And this is bigger? Origins was almost too big.

KillZallthebeast2439d ago

Origins was huge and I never finished it. Spent like 60 hours dicking around though. Pretty good game.

VenomUK2438d ago

‘Mostly water’ is said like a negative but that is what the Greek islands are! It’s also necessary for the seafaring element.

ramiuk12438d ago

origins was awesome,i loved it but yeah it was too big imo

joab7772439d ago

God of War meets Origins meets Black Flag. That not so bad!!!! And after this they are taking two years for the next iteration. Ubi listened!!!

Too bad I’ll have no time. Loved Origins, though a bit hallow as far as rpgs go.

bigmalky2438d ago (Edited 2438d ago )

Hopefully a UK setting for the next. Would love to see Scotland in AC, but it's sadly overlooked in most games.

wwinterj2438d ago (Edited 2438d ago )

@bigmalky we have already had London with Syndicate.
@CyrusLemont Can't say I'm a big fan of the naval combat but I'm not worried about the land mass size either.

Only thing lacking is pirate settings 😉

Crazyglues2439d ago

I'm still playing Origins... I'm no where near ready for this, but I like that it's a huge map, should make for a really good game hopefully... I will have to wait and see what the reviews are saying... Sorry but I don't trust Ubisoft much these days..

LucasRuinedChildhood2439d ago

There's no Assassin's Creed next year so you'll have a lot of time to play Odyssey or you could just wait a while and pick it up at a discounted price. As you said, you're still playing Origins.

Crazyglues2439d ago

Yeah I think that's what I'm going to do pick it up later... if Reviews are real good...

Yeah maybe it's just me but I feel like I should finish this one first... even though they don't tie into each other, like you don't really need to finish this story to play that one...

SamPao2438d ago

Well you should finish Origins.
And based on that experience you decide on Odyssey.

DaFeelz2439d ago

They’ll just copy and paste their hate from another site.

ziggurcat2439d ago

the site, as a whole, isn't to blame for that - it was one individual, and they fired him for it.

MadLad2439d ago

Is IGN actually still even relevant today? What with all of the varying, strong personalities to be found on Youtube and elsewhere?

Pretty sure individuals such as ACG have a stronger voice nowadays than IGN as a whole.

IGN: 5/10 - Too much water

The Open-World Genre In Gaming Has A Quantity Over Quality Problem

More developers need to focus on what makes open-world games like Elden Ring and RDR2 pop, instead of focusing on needless map expansions.

KyRo242d ago

Open world games need a overhaul in general.

Go here - kill this target
Go here - fetch this
Clear this camp
Add dozens of filler side quests
Tack on a RPG skill tree
Finish up with a couple of hundred collectables

98 percent of open world games follow this game design and it's boring now after nearly a decade of following this same design.

anast242d ago

Maybe they know what it takes to make an engaging open-world, but they won't. For most publishers, managers probably get bonuses for finding ways to cut corners.

IAMRealHooman242d ago

yes. Every ubisoft like is overly large map. just to say it's huge with nothing in it.
Love'em or hate'em a yakuza game is a significantly smaller map, with a lot of side activities and absurd quest lines.trying the different restaurants in game can be enjoyable as they offer different buffs, do that or make traversal so good you wouldn't dare fast travel ie Spiderman

YourMommySpoils242d ago (Edited 242d ago )

Stellar Blade says hello.

The only quality game to come out this year.

exputers242d ago

While true, that one's not a full open-world. Pretty much like God of War Ragnarok.

YourMommySpoils242d ago

Not sure how everyone judges this. If that's the case, that would mean even The Witcher 3 isn't open world and just semi maps slowly unlocked.

Ubisoft blames “technical error” for showing pop-up ads in Assassin’s Creed

A fullscreen pop-up ad appeared in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for some players this week.

Technically, we wanted more money.

bradfh522d ago

Call of Duty already does this; Ubisoft and other game companies will follow suit and explore similar approaches.

Kaii522d ago

Congratulations, A technical error In displaying ads while playing.
EU consumer law needs to chew these assholes a new one.

TheColbertinator522d ago

At this point the entire EU commission must be bribed

Christopher522d ago

The big note here is the built in ad-displays during gameplay and not that they happened. Start screen, cool. Gameplay? That shouldn't ever happen.

Yi-Long521d ago (Edited 521d ago )

"Start screen, cool."

Uhm, no. Start screen very much NOT cool either. There really need to be new laws implemented banning these companies from shoving ads down out throats at every opportunity they see fit.

Crows90521d ago

For free to play which is a market of games needing monetization through different venues. In those games this stuff is fine by me. But when you pay ..20, 40 ,60, or $70 that's when it is not okay to any degree.

jznrpg521d ago

Start screen not cool either

walken7522d ago

They're testing the waters, vote with your wallets.

porkChop522d ago

That's not a technical error. An ad can't be displayed mid-game without you creating the code/tech to make that possible first.
