Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Is the Most Satisfying Call of Duty In Years

Gadgets 360: "Labelling it a grittier, calculated take on Overwatch and Rainbow Six Siege with its Specialists and slower pace of play is awfully reductive thanks to the stellar gunplay. Pulling off a headshot has been more satisfying than its ever been in a Call of Duty game in recent years while the additions of special abilities, while derivative, layer it well enough to warrant checking it out.

The gameplay mechanics of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 seem to be in the right place. How Treyarch and Activision support this at launch and beyond will be a point of interest. Right now though, we're cautiously optimistic of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4."

We hear the same shit every year for cod.

Cod is literally the definition of same shit different day.

twiggytree122473d ago

Came here to say that, the "best call of duty in years" statement hasn't fooled me in nearly half a decade.

Eonjay2473d ago

Its actually really good. To be honest.

zackeroniii2473d ago (Edited 2473d ago )

So can you tell me what shooter is actually different shit different day? I'm actually curious.

People complain about COD being the same shit every year, but when they do actually change up the gameplay, they still get hate from entitled spoiled brats who complain regardless of what they do.

Yes the game looks like Black ops 3 but it plays COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from any other COD game. And I had very low expectations for BO4, I also said it looks exactly like BO3 and it does, but it's one thing to look at a game and one thing to actually PLAY it for yourself. Games are MEANT to be PLAYED.

I am enjoying the game and this is coming from someone who hated the past 3 or 4 CODS, with the exception of MWR because that's just a remake of an already great COD.

If you guys gave up on COD after their previous 3 or 4 lackluster entries then that's understandable and I can see where the skepticism comes from. But when it comes down to the actual game...how about you guys give it a try before you automatically say it is trash because that is one of the most closeminded arguments that can be made...hating on BO4 or anything, without experiencing it, gives your opinions no merit or validation.

And don't say you can have a valid opinion because you've played other CODS because like I said...this is a completely different game, gameplay and mechanic wise, one you would need to play to actually know.

You LOOK at movies to see if they're good or wack. You PLAY games to see if they are good or wack.

annoyedgamer2473d ago

Looks like the check from Activision cleared.

letsa_go2473d ago (Edited 2473d ago )

Played the beta last night. Felt like Call of Duty alright! No wall running, no double jumping. Looks to be set only on earth. Boots on the ground gameplay. Sliding is in there. Headshots sounded nice. Sucks about the single player but I honestly haven't even played those on the past few games. Those are my impressions so far. Ghosts was the last game that played like this. I will probably wait until the game is in the $20-30 range.

Muzikguy2473d ago

I might check it out but still not sure. I haven't paid for Plus in over a year and haven't bought a single COD game all generation. Some of this sounds like I should give it a shot but I've also heard it all before.

As for the same shit different day comments, honestly, COD has to be that way to some extent. If they change too much people won't like it. That and then they shouldn't be changing things all the time IMO. They need to update their engines and some other things that's for sure. The idea of it being "same shit different day" isn't why I feel people have such an issue with COD. It's some of the other stupid things they do like fish AI, continue to have tiny maps, jetpacks, things like that. I also haven't been a fan of Overwatch so if it really is like that then I'd probably pass anyway (along with not having Plus)

playnice2473d ago

I hear ya but scrapping a campaign less than a year until release is no small change... charging full price for a product that only has online modes...

Ever played Titanfal? I bet that IP would be doing a lot better if the second game's amazing campaign (one of the best FPS campaign of this generation) had been included with the first game. Now it feels like it's fading in oblivion... I wish Activision good luck next year when the next Call of Duty comes out and their fanbase will have adjusted to their half-( )rsed product.

Gamers will have the last word. Let's wait and see. Personally my money is on Battlefield V this year. I don't mind the creative liberties with a more colourful palette, women soldiers etc. I am very optimistic they may deliver a complete package after the excellent Battlefield 1.

Muzikguy2473d ago (Edited 2473d ago )

I've not been staying in the loop with these games and had forgotten about the campaign. It's a definite no for me checking this game out. I'm not about to let companies think that giving people half of something (or even less than that) is ok while still charging full price. That can't become the norm. Too many games are trying it and it's not looking good for the future of gaming.

Not will I be standing in line to get a game that needs a subscription. I can see them trying that next and I won't be part of that either

Battlefield I've had lots of fun with until it went to consoles. It seems like after that the game started going downhill. I think that was more to do with servers and all. PC always seemed to have games available. Could be a sign of the times too. There are more games now to play. I have fond memories of BF. Not so much of COD

playnice2473d ago

@Muzikguy

If you didn't know about the absence of a campaign I'm afraid lots of people will be in the same situation and buying BO4 expecting another normal COD and getting burned in the process... If I could bet on this I'd wager COD 2019 is gonna have some of the worst sales number of any recent COD game after burning a significant part of their fanbase the yr before.

Sorry about Battlefield... I only enjoyed 2 of their campaigns to be fair Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1 (the war stories were a smart way of varying gameplay without a convoluted overarching story).

ActualWhiteMan2472d ago

Ive been a loyal COD player since 2 on XBOX 360. To me the BO4 beta feels too much like DLC for BO3, and I hate it. Modern Warfare Remastered will just have to hold me over until MW4 if that ever comes.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Is the Most Satisfying Call of Duty In Years"

Yep, they say the same thing every year...

DrumBeat2473d ago

You don't have to be skeptical anymore, just take my advice and avoid this soulless, uninspired pile of garbage. I played through the Xfinity promo, and experienced exactly what I expected. Nothing. The game was like nothing. Black Ops 3 assets + graphics, and a syringe are all that's on offer in this pitiful and tasteless rendition of this years Call of Duty.

IM a few hours in, and it’s a different cod. So far, I’m feeling good about my $100 game + season pass purchase

PUBG2474d ago

Yes, let that price tag sink in for a minute...

Jinger2473d ago

Everyone views value differently. If he gets enough fun hours out of it that justifies the price for himself then who cares?

PlayableGamez-2474d ago

Have fun with those Microtransactions on top of your 100 dollar purchase.

cooperdnizzle2474d ago

Hey guys he is a serious gamer gosh. Let’s do this bro.

Brave_Losers_Unite2473d ago

Using the with gosh and bro in two sentences? Smh

bradfh2473d ago (Edited 2473d ago )

"I’m feeling good about my $100 game + season pass",

I feel like Brian on Family Guy my mouth is on the table. wow

Thunder_G0d_Bane2473d ago

I certainly wouldn’t take the opinion of an obvious cod fanboy seriously lool

2473d ago
DrumBeat2473d ago

Most of the people who played CoD at the beginning are appalled by this...game. If you're a kid, you could be excited, but people who were there at the beginning, like myself, know better.

I'm sure that lack of campaign is making you feel wonderful.

Overwatch and Rainbow Six Seige really? So basically nothing that old school fans want.

Skankinruby2474d ago (Edited 2474d ago )

If it's multiplayer only then hell no

playnice2473d ago

It's a shame, COD has some pretty sweet albeit short campaigns (MW1, BO1... hell even Infinite Warfare apparently? (haven't played it yet though I picked it up for cheap) )

ActualWhiteMan2472d ago

Infinite warfare had the best campaign of the series. I LOVED it. Too bad the multiplayer was trash.

PUBG2474d ago

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Is the Most Satisfying Call of Duty In Years"

Compared to what? Mass Effect Andromeda? Call of duty is a dead franchise walking. Only 6 maps, no single player campaign(which is what made the series great to begin with) and an afterthought Battle Royale mode? Next time the author is playing Left 4 Dead, and he hears one of his co-op partners say "pills here!" I's recommend that he skip the pills....

FRUTZK2474d ago

yesssss, yessssssss let your hate guide you

Eonjay2473d ago

This. Can we stop acting like this game is bad lol. Its really solid.

ThatOneRiggaNob2473d ago

How do you know the Battle Royale mode was an afterthought?

Rachel_Alucard2473d ago

Leaks that came true said it was only put in months ago since campaign got scrapped.

PhantomS422473d ago

Because BR became popular only a year ago, it's pretty obvious they didn't have it planned from the start.

ThatOneRiggaNob2473d ago

but saying it's an afterhtought gives off the idea that they didn't put much effort into it which is kinda what I got from his comment and I don't think that's true.

m1armor2473d ago

Only 6 maps in the beta lol. Theres gonna be more in the full game. I dont play but I had to log on for that.

kamisama2473d ago

ok good i was like wow only 6 maps

lipton1012473d ago

Wow. Create something yourself instead of dumping all over whatever’s popular. You sound like an angsty 16 year old.

SierraGuy2473d ago

Last time I checked a dead franchise walking wasn't a billion dollar franchise. So try again there.

Comparing COD to Mass Effect are you on glue?

Only 6 maps? What the hell are you talking about? Go back to PUBG with that vast map selection.

Campaign never "made" COD multiplayer did.

Afterthought battle Royale? It's not even necessary to still mop the floor with PUBG this year.

I understand your pill popping ways and comments as the only way to keep your attention vested in a half finished pile of beta crap PUBG.

BadElf2473d ago

6 maps? Link to that info, please....

kamisama2473d ago

you're kidding right? it literally only has 6 maps and they canned the story mode what the hell are they doing with all this "extra development time".

T2X2473d ago (Edited 2473d ago )

Oh skip the pedantic outrage. It's actually very good. Give it a shot before saying it sucks. And if you do think it sucks, tell everyone why using facts and valid arguments.

Cancelled Call of Duty Game "NX1" Gameplay Footage, Black Ops 4 "War" Mode" Surface

A cancelled Call of Duty game titled "NX1" had footage surface online, along with a Black Ops 4 unreleased mode called "War."

RaidenBlack470d ago

looks like the OG Infinite Warfare

Profchaos469d ago

Yeah it does look good wonder why it was canned

EvertonFC469d ago

Probably a proper game with no MT and they didn't see any profits 😂🤣

Name Last Name469d ago

That Neversoft logo took me back to Tony Hawk days. Sad to see this cancellation led to the studio closure.

Juancho51469d ago

It’s always sad to see great concepts destroyed so deep into development. They obviously had a lot of ideas and aren’t happy about it. Now withe layoffs even more videos like this will surface soon.

Xbox Fans Call Out 'Activision's Greed' Over Call Of Duty Digital Prices

This week's Deals with Gold selection on Xbox has rubbed certain Xbox fans the wrong way, as several Call of Duty titles are still ludicrously priced - despite being discounted by up to 67% off over the next few days.

VersusDMC1347d ago

How is 20 dollars for X360 call of duty games "ludicrously" overpriced?

And with Activision's lawer bills skyrocketing at the moment you are not going to be seeing deep discounts for a bit.

Chevalier1347d ago

Pretty sure that's the sale off that's 60% off. After the sale ends that 360 game is still listed at $49.99, right not its $19.99 because the 60% off.

VersusDMC1347d ago

I guess they can wait for the next sale then.

SullysCigar1346d ago

It's nice to see the Xbox community stand up for themselves though. That's been needed for a long time.

InUrFoxHole1346d ago

For a long time? Its the reason xbox is killing it this gen.

senorfartcushion1346d ago

Lawsuits don’t cost billions, they’re ALWAYS going to be fine for money.

They could stack their bills on the ground and fill half the continent of Africa at this point.

RaiderNation1346d ago

Because Xbox fans are so used to playing games on the Xbox EBT subscription service, the idea of paying anything for a game seems ludicrous to them.

MadLad1346d ago (Edited 1346d ago )

You pay for the service.

Do you have Amazon Video?
Hulu?
Netflix?

It's a subscription service. Not a charity. You're literally going at people over the idea of using a pro consumer service, and that's the real joke here.

thorstein1346d ago

When records were sold, they were eventually replaced by tapes, which cost less to manufacture, but more to buy. Then CDs came along and were cheaper to manufacture, but cost more at retail. Digital, of course, is the cheapest yet, but billion dollar corporations want to charge the same.

And no, that money is not going to the person sitting in the chair actually making the game.

It is pure and utter greed from people who don't need any more money.

InUrFoxHole1346d ago

Lol calm down Bobby. You crapped on thus franchise.

"Many have also noted how the multiplayer in several of these titles is either dead or filled with hackers, meaning players are paying a hefty sum for a short campaign and potentially some zombie modes."

With these clear truths the decades older COD games should be permanently 19.99 regular price and sale prices 7.99 minimum

autobotdan1346d ago

Typo sale prices 2.99 minimum and 9.99 maximum. Older COD tiles seven years old or older should never be over 20 dollars regular price

senorfartcushion1346d ago

I have paid less than 3 dollars for some AAA PS4 games, old 360 CoD games should not be $20

FanboysKiller1346d ago

Any fps game runs by the quirk engine follows this logic
Eat
Sleep
Die instantly
Repeat
As if the main purpose of the game more of "repeat" than the actual gameplay experience , any noob in this game will tell you his mind stucked in repeating the sequence number of deaths than the gameplay itself , what a complete pile of #.

EvertonFC1346d ago

It's why I don't play cod anymore, my 45yr old hands can't compete with these kids 😂 🤣
1 kill to every 10 deaths is not fun

John_McClane1346d ago

Don't let that stop you if you enjoy the game, it's actually pretty good for hand/eye coordination.

lipton1011346d ago

Try Escape from Tarkov. It forces you to slow down and think. I’m not a fan of the ADD speed of CoD

Father__Merrin1346d ago

All the back compat titles are cheap listing when you scroll through them u till you come to black ops it's a complete rip off

Rhythmattic1346d ago (Edited 1346d ago )

Well... Don't buy it..... Is it really that hard to comprehend?
Everything else you choose to purchase with your hard earned cash , so should games be held to the same reasoning....
Just don't give em the cash....

Entitlement that's bizarre, from the publisher and from the consumer.... Thats pretty fkd up if you think about it...

GhostofHorizon1346d ago

It's hilarious that some people don't see this as an option.

MadLad1346d ago

Bananas now cost $30 a pound. There's no good reason for it, but if you want bananas, there you go.

You don't have to buy them.

It's about their constant greed when handling the franchise. Nobody has to buy anything, but when a company doesn't follow corporate norms when selling their product; overpricing their old wares just because they can, the consumer is allowed to call that out.

GhostofHorizon1346d ago

Consumer can call them out, but I think they are going about it the wrong way.

The reason they get away with everything they do is simply because they can. They can charge $20 for a skin pack because people will gladly buy it. There is plenty of competition for FPS games, it's not like it's a niche market.

I know it's easier to blame and demand better from Activision than people that keep buying these overpriced items. If they weren't being bought, Activision would lower the price though. People like to pretend to take the high road but wouldn't you rather sell the banana for $30 than $3 if people are willing to buy it?

franwex1346d ago

@therealtedcruz

I think there’s a virus destroying the banana and may even go extinct. So maybe that’s why.

I think it’s happen before too.

MadLad1345d ago

A small subset buys those skins and whatnot. Most players don't. The "whale" mindset is pretty accurate across the board, where there's a small handful who buy a lot, and most who don't buy any. Either way, that means they're imposed on the majority either way.

That's different from overpricing your game though. Activision easily makes their money off every release, then milks it until the next release, then throws it away. They never put significant sales on even a release from several cycles ago. Whether it sells or not.

And I mean, yeah; if I were a business, I'd probably want to make as much money as possible.
But I'm not a business; I'm a consumer, thus I find many businesses to be complete assholes.

Rhythmattic1340d ago

And people are still blaming the high prices but suggest they're still wiling to buy it... Not too smart are you peoples....

Its a non regulated pricing structure, sure , many play by the status-quo , but to actually complain by complaining, instead of standing your ground and not buying it, by buying it , you are the reason its happening....

Idiots, Idiots everywhere.... What? So those that are complaining don't want to pay the money, but cant do without it?

FFS. Entitlement level 5000...
Drink some cement and harden the Fk up!

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 1340d ago
Sitdown1346d ago

The article and title isn't saying that people are buying it, its simply saying that they are calling them out for greed. I guess you had a problem with people calling out Microsoft for trying to increase the price of Live, and don't understand how voicing concern led to them backing away from the decision.

Teflon021346d ago

People need to put that energy into Nintendo's Pricing over Activisions tbh. They're focused on the wrong things

Rhythmattic1340d ago (Edited 1340d ago )

Greed? Ok... Dont buy it and prove that by being greedy , they got it wrong... Not that hard to understand is it?
To Add... I haven't bought Cod since MW2.... Because of these exact practices.... Fact.
