Here’s Claire Redfield’s face model

Resident Evil fans have discovered the face model of Claire Redfield.

Jordan Mcewen is the face model of Claire Redfield in the remake of Resident Evil 2, as reported by our partner site REVIL. Mcewen is a Japan-based model who was in Osaka two years ago to work with Capcom. Earlier, rumor had it that British actress Moya Palk would play Claire. However, that turned out to be false.

Absolutely nothing against Moya Palk, but Jorden Mcewen fits the bill more for our new Claire (given that these were the only choices they had that I know of). Moya looks a little too young, in my opinion anyway. Of course, I would rather Capcom not change the character and just simply update the model, but it is what it is, and they chose wisely.

naruga2500d ago

why Capcom keeps 3D modeling real actors/models for their characters in games??? they dont fing look good in digital and most of the time are far from the characters Cacpom created.....the same happens with DMC5 where the actors behind the protagonist look real awful wihtout any resemblence to Nero and Dante ....Capcom go fing back to the drawing board and put some talented artists (which japan has overabundance from them) and redesign the faces to be more fiction and more animesque like RE6/ DMC4 characters

strayanalog2500d ago

Your guess is as good as mine, naruga. The new models don't feel right - definitely - but that's probably because I had a set mind on how Claire looked since she's been a part of our culture for 20 years now. I wish Capcom would have updated the character models, but I suppose face rendering is more the "in" thing now than it ever was since a lot of the community want "realistic" and this industry probably sees it as forward thinking. I don't know.

You do bring up a great point though, about the artists, and now that I think about it: does face rendering take away some of the art of video games? This would be a great article, in my opinion anyway.

naruga2500d ago (Edited 2500d ago )

@stray i fully agree ...an opposite example is the masterfull Hideo Kojima ....they spent hours and hours only developping Snakes face (especially in MGS4) in order to be portrayed exactly as the Shinkawa s artwork o (other examples are Nintnedo -Links face, or various Japanese fight em up Developpers) ...these are real artistique game developers caring for the depiction of unique characters and their game leave a special "feel" ...Capcom the last years is choosing even more the lazy path of 3D modelling/scanning....as they said in a meme "Capcom you used to be cool" (and i will add-- a hive of extremely talented people) what happened to you????

pasta_spice2499d ago

I don't think face scanning is lazy if it's done right. Take Detroit Become Human for example... They use face models in that game and they look stunning, right down to the tiny eye movements and dimples in their cheeks. But it really does need to be done right to avoid that creepy uncanny valley look.

naruga you are targeted by a Capcom freak who have multiple accounts , keep your concerns alive .. don't let these idiots shut you up .. speak your mind

I don't understand what was wrong with the old Claire.

SuperSonic912499d ago

Darkside Chronicles Claire is the best Claire in my opinion;
Dreamcast Code Veronica was fantastic for its time too
RE2 original is still good.

pasta_spice2499d ago

"Moya looks a little too young, in my opinion anyway."

Isn't Claire young in Resident Evil 2 anyway? I think she's only meant to be 18 or 19.

strayanalog2499d ago

Yeah. Moya looks like an early to mid high school student, not a college going student.

As great as Leon looks they really dropped the ball with Claire... looks just a regular npc

PaleMoonDeath2499d ago

Funnily enough, she's just a regular person.

PhoenixUp2500d ago

But who are they going to model for this aspect of Claire?

thekhurg2499d ago

If you look at her instagram .... she could do all of that and then some.

AK912500d ago (Edited 2500d ago )

If they ever do an RE3 Remake I hope they get the model who portrayed Jill in RE1 Remake to mocap the character.

strayanalog2499d ago

Absolutely! Julia Voth was spot on.

mastershredder2500d ago (Edited 2500d ago )

Absolutely zero reason to use actor/model scans these days (use a human foundation a build on it). Plenty of highly talented digital artists that do not require a “model”. Way to go Capcom how very Western of you. Must be picking up in Kijoma’s short cuts.

People truly will complain about anything on the internet.

Aquacure2499d ago

I'm here to complain about your post. xD

Shinox2499d ago

But this is publicly a genuine concern , most people who saw Claire were complaining how weird she looks compared to Leon model and her OG models , if you are so easy to give anything a free pass than you are basic and generic like the rest of people .. oh i forgot YOU REPRESENT GENERIC

Germaximus2499d ago

Totally agree. I'm not sure why any game keeps insisting on using famous actors to model their characters.

I'm not against it. I just don't think games need to get a major actor to sell it.

isarai2499d ago

It's not as easy as just scanning a face, in fact due to current demands using a real world model is even more work. Scanning faces will get you a good place to start from, but it takes hundreds of man hours to clean up the model, bump map, and diffuse map whereas making one from scratch requires no clean up when made by professionals. not only that but when you rig and animate the character not only does it have to look right just like rigging and animating any other model, but now you have this extra layer of complexity cause you have to match their expressions and features or else it just doesn't look right.
