Poor Days Gone. The creators have said over and over again that they aren't zombies, but the media seems to want to force it on them.
Every gamer and media outlet is going to refer to the Freakers as zombies, though. It's only natural. Superficially, there's not much difference between the Freakers and the zombies in World War Z.
Didn't the media do the same with zombies and clickers? If memory serves me, Naughty Dog kind of said the same thing about the clickers and people still classed them as zombies.
So funny, an official expert on zombies. :) How can you be an expert on something which does not exist. I'd surely say Sony Bend are the foremost experts on freakers.

Even I Am Legends "infected" were referred to as zombies when if anything they're more vampiric. One of the traits mentally for a zombie tends to be a disregard for personal saftey in most situations and when you see a horde in Days gone running without consideration into automatic machine gun fire it makes them looks like zombies.
It makes them look like zombies because they are. Simple as that. Hell even RE games had zombie hordes that were controlled and functioned very similar to how they claim the freakers make themselves different from zombies.
Because they are zombies. Absolutely nothing about the so called freakers that are different then many titles that have zombies in them. They have done nothing new with freakers that we haven't already seen with zombies in movies or games.
I like how people imagine it is some kind of slight to call frekaers by what they are which is zombies.
They're not zombies though. Zombies are the reanimate dead. These things never died, they're feral mutants, living creatures. They need a water source, they have scouts and lookouts, they nest and reproduce.
I'm not too familiar with many zombie stories that incorporate all of the above.
@ShadowWolf712 - this is not John Romero lore here. Zombies do NOT need to be reanimated dead. Simply have to view World War Z to see that zombies can simply be zombies by being bitten from a viral host. All the zombies there changed near instantly after being bitten. The problem with people and their idea of what a zombie is completely falls apart when you see that every zombie movie or game has some form of difference from others.
The idea... 'they aren't zombies because they drink water' really? Did you see the zombie shows where zombies actually had sex and do every thing that other people do? Have you even seen iZombie? The idea of adding unique (or less seen) traits to your zombies does not mean they now can simply be considered non-zombies.
i hear you!......i have a vision of a group of pimple-faced adults sitting in one of their grandmas basement all day. they're doing nothing but talking zombies and watching free porn.
Huh? But zombies aren’t realistic...and Days Gone doesn’t even have zombies in it. Is there a magic research society that can examine magic depicted in games? I’d love to read the comments on that article, especially if it mistakenly includes games where what the characters can do isn’t technically magic. Oh, I still wouldn’t read it but I’m sure the headline and sample paragraph would be fun.
Jesus "Zombie Reserch Society"! I love Night, Dawn, Day of the Dead, Train to Busen, Return and all the others but how pray tell does one determine how something fictitious is ranked from most to least accurate?!?!
You must be on some very strong medacation to put the awful Dead Rising 4 on the list over any previous entry's. Also where is the first 2 Resident Evil's the daddy's of the zomibe genre. Also Undead Nightmare was a great zombie game also. I know it's opinions and all, but most of them don't deserve to be called best zombie game's ever.
