PSP World writes: "The new PSP firmware version 5.0 is out, and if brings a number of improvements. If you are lucky enough to be using it on a brand new PSP-3000 system, the results are even better. We got our hands on the new firmware for our PSP 2000 Slim, and took it for a spin. Here are our thoughts on each of the newly added features:
This was perhaps the biggest change that fans were looking forward to. Not only is PSN access a convenient feature, it changes the entire strategy and usefulness of the PSP system. Sony is planning to release all first-party games directly on the store as digital downloads from day one. That means that for many people, UMD is a thing of the past. We couldn't be happier. In terms of functionality, the PSP Store looks exactly like its big brother on the PS3 customers can browse through tabs on the left, while larger icons and prices are displayed on the right. The interface also loads quickly, which is a nice surprise. Downloading is not so speedy: it can take up to 20 minutes to download and install a 100 MB file."

This will be the first time the original 1993 arcade Ridge Racer has appeared on home consoles.
I hear rumors that Evercade may also be getting a Namco Arcade cart with RR and Tekken on it. That would be sweet as their previous Namco Console carts have also recently been updated to work on the VS. Previously, they only had the license to the handheld. so the OG Evercade and the EXP and even the Alpha were supported, but not the VS.
Firmware 5.0 for some reason broke the TV out function for PSP games on my PSP 2000. Instead of seeing the game screen on my HDTV with the HDTV cable as I did before the update, I see a black screen (yes, I am using the progressive cable on a progressive capable HDTV). Disconnecting and reconnecting the cable and futzing with the settings had no effect.
This is pissing me right off because I can watch videos and see the XMB interface screen, so I don't understand what in the hell is wrong.
I don't think you are the first person to have that problem. The TV out features of firmware 5.0 are causing more problems than they are fixing.
Also, the PSP 2000 can still only output to HD, except when playing PSX games, which can be output to interlaced screens. Kind of weird.
