Wait a minute am I missing something here? Arent SP games supposed to be dead? I was sure it was true because MS and EA said so.

Well kind of..
See, single player games have come to rely on great story telling and creating a good atmosphere to draw in the player. This takes time and talent to do at a higher standard.
But most importantly, single player games become harder to do map packs and micro transactions... obviously map packs is a no brainer and needs to explanation, but drawing players together helps boost micro transactions. The new “sneakers” mentality helps drives sales. You see a friend with the new “sneakers”, it helps lower ones guard and make spending money easier.
So it’s all about objectives and who steering the ship.
If company B sees little return in their product, it is pointless to spend money in said area.
Microsoft wants players grouped up. Easier game development due to sandbox style pvp and depending on the “hours” players play together over single player, xbl becomes a necessity, micro transactions get better support with the group theory etc.

Congrats to Santa Monica Studios and Sony for making another mustplay game for the PS4. Never doubted the outcome for one second. Can't wait to get my hands on this Masterpiece.
