Rocket League will get cross-platform party support later this year

Since cross-platform play was enabled, Rocket League players have been able to play with each other, but there hasn’t been an established form of voice communication. Psyonix is looking to fix that in 2018.

I'll buy it for XB1 for sure and most likely Switch as well, because then I can play with my brothers as well.

Having bought the game on PS4 first then PC afterwards just to play with friends of another platform, Cross-Platform invites would be freaking awesome!!!!

I don't see any reasons why Sony wouldn't let this one go.

I'm just hoping they don't remove the cross-play with PC since "Technically" they couldn't control the exposure that children would have through the In-game chat box. Maybe Jim Ryan wasn't all that serious about what he said back then and just said it as a good excuse, but if he was serious, maybe we'll lose that privilege when this comes in motion.

Again FFXIV offers PC/PS4 text chat, so maybe it's a question of what the online age rating of a game is?

Yeah I dont imagine Sony have an issue with cross-platform on PC. Sony only really doesn't want to play ball with Xbox. I imagine the feature will be enabled to allow people to form parties as follows:

PC/PS4

PC/Xbox/Switch

You're probably right on that one, and that's too bad. Would love to be able to play with my friend via my PS4 and his switch!
But still, would be better than nothing. Lots of the competitive RL community plays on PC, so having full cross-play with PC would be just good enough for me. Not the best scenario, but good enough.

I think it's sad that Sony won't allow crossplay with other consoles. They say they're 4 the players, but think of the children!!! Lamest excuse ever. It's 4 the control, not the players or the children.

I don't play on the PS4, but if Sony cares this much about controlling the online experience for the sake of the children then I can only imagine that PSN must feel like the Disney channel! No swearing, no violence... just sunshine and rainbows and unicorns!

Last I checked, PS4 had crossplay with PC, Krib. It seems the author has also forgotten that fact.

it's called business. why would the leader of the console market (sony) make it easier for people to not have to buy their console in order to play with friends that own other competitors consoles? lol

Why wouldn't Sony allow this for a third party dev? This would benefit them and Sony would still not lose any sales dlc, mt or anything else since they would still be purchased on PSN.

And Sony is allowing it for PC and I don't see any PC sales skyrocketing because people are choosing the PC over PS4.

PS4 sales are going to stagnate because a game that came out years ago is going to allow crossplay? That is a huge stretch to say the least.

It's too late this generation to have any impact on hardware sales to matter either way for such a small feature that will likely be used seldomly.

that's one of the many reasons why I love PC gaming. Everyone is welcome, I'm not like "Oh so you're running an AMD processor and not Intel?!?!?! Screw you!!!!!!".

But again, I can totally understand that sales is the main factor of consoles cross-play rejections by Sony. And no, Sony is NEVER going to say directly "It's to make sure we make more sales than the competition by forcing you guys to buy our hardware to play with others on our hardware only". This is what's happening, but it would be BAD PR if they ever said this in an interview.

I find it funny that all PS4 owners here are mono-console owners and ALL doesn't have any friends whatsoever that has another gaming platform. I guess I'm one of the rare multi hardware owners on this site.

question, if someone wants to play a third party game, or any game for that matter, with friends that play Destiny on their ps4's what is the only way they can do that? $$$ that's right they need to buy a ps4 which in turn means sony gets another console sold and that gives them even more momentum which means the friend of the friend that had to buy a ps4 in order to play with other friends needs to also buy a ps4. more consoles sold means more chances of their games selling, like Spider man.

I'm surprised i have to answer to this comment but... pc's aren't in direct competition with consoles. there isn't a pc company that makes their own games that are only playable on their pc.

Rocket league is crossplatform with the ps4 because, like i said above, pc's aren't in direct competition with the ps4.

sony has made all the rght moves that's why they are leading by so much. you want them to allow other consoles to connect to their console so people won't have to buy a ps4 in order to play with their friends right?
please do yourself a favor and never run your own business.

and if we all owned all consoles then this wouldn't be a topic of discussion would it?

I own a pc for games can't play on my ps4. i don't own an xbox because of this reason, i can play all their games on my pc so why the hell would i waste my money on their console? i don't own a nintendo system because I'm an adult.

people want to buy a console for their exclusives. it just so happens that sony has the biggest veriety of console exclusives and some of the best third party deals. this is why i choose to be a ps4 owner and it's not my fault people chose to buy other consoles when their friends chose the ps4.

people want to play with their friends on the leading console then they have to buy that console which means $$$ for sony. why would you expect anything less from a "COMPANY"?

i have no control over what Sony says as to why they don't want crossplay.

first of all "Sir", telling you that Sony doesn't want crossplay because of "business" decisions has nothing to do with defending them blindly it has to do with reading comments you and others have made thinking Sony should take a loss in revenue because people, like you, who decided to buy an xbox/switch somehow feel "ENTITLED" to play games with friends that own a ps4.
