This discussion has been beat to death when Achievements came out 2 years ago. Late to the party and since Trophies are so piss poor supported on the ps3 I dont think they make much difference. if you ask the fanboys at turd HQ here they would say achievements are stupid and play games for fun not for worthless points.

times sure do change.

pwnsause5734d ago

Well, they are not piss poor anymore since alot of games have been reported to get trophies now.

ape0075734d ago (Edited 5734d ago )

for me,I think trophies are better than achievements, for many reasons

1- the leveling system, this system is just pure addictive, each level you pass requires you more trophies to pass to another

2- bronze, silver, gold, and platinum seems both fresh and hardcore, cheap a$$ players will get mostly bronze and some silver, while the crazy gamers have lots of bronze, gold, silver and one or two platinum,I know cheap a$$ gamers on live have a lot of games, only finishing half of them and here you go he has like 15000 gs,you see I have like 10000 gs and I beat halo3,gears,cod4,bioshock,tfu on HARDEST DIFFICULTY,just because he have more games he just beat me,on live there's no real qualty achievement like psn, gold and platinum ftw,I hope you get it

3- quality and quantity the games themselves, what's better to have in your collection,gears,cod4,gta 4,halo3,crackdown,saints row and some games are great to have but what about the rest, most games are crappy(sorry 360 fans),so you see it's not cool to collect achievements from bad games, just brows live and look for high achievements,in ps3 your trophy list is full of classics.mgs4,gow3,uncharted,u ncharted2,lbp,r2,killzone 2,warhawk,eden star dust, motor storm:pacific rift and more and they are all different geners,so you truly feel like you are a legend, not 90% of achievements only fps games,I hope you get it.

I wasnt trying to cause a dispute im talking about award systems whether it be trophys or acheivements did you guys even read the article? Its about the way we play games?!? Not Xbox is so l33t oh my god no way ps3 is much l33t3r, get over it. Its non console specific, its about the industry!!

CBaoth5734d ago

I think you hit the nail on the head on a number of points. I have even contended before here that achievements/trophies may even save the single player genre altogether as co-op/multi becomes increasingly more popular. And yes, it's a very fair and unbiased look at an aspect of this gen.

Paddybass5734d ago

I hope you guys understand that this isnt a console specific thing. i mean i focus on ps3 cause thats what my site is about, but its about award systems and the way that they , along with the gaming industry change the way we play. Thanks for reading though and i hope you enjoyed

The Inconsistent Harmony: 5 Examples of Ludonarrative Dissonance in Video Games

VGChartz's Issa Maki: "I finally have a proper designation akin to what I've always referred to internally as 'the line that must be crossed' or 'The Line', for short – ludonarrative dissonance – the separation from a video game's story in relation to its gameplay. Why isn't PETA all up in Mario's grill for jumping on turtles and killing fish, or charging Samus Aran with the extinction of the Metroid species? Ever notice how fire has that habit of making bosses in Resident Evil stronger? Read on my friend, for I endeavor to imbue you with the ability to engage in basic queries concerning the concept."

UC 2, 4, 3 and 1. Great read and article

ABizzel11060d ago

No Golden Abyss -_-, otherwise I agree with the order.

UC2: Best overall
UC4: Best graphics, best gameplay, best locations, best environements
UC3: Best set pieces IMO (the boat and desert fights will always be amazing)
UC1: A rough Draft of what was to come
UCGA: Basically UC1 on Vita

Levii_921060d ago (Edited 1060d ago )

Great list and great article nicely writen and explained. Although for me personaly i would put Drakes Fortune above Drake’s Deception and Uncharted 4 is absolutely my favourite of the franchise and number 1 for me.

Inverno1060d ago

U2 is the only game playable on crushing without causing a great amount of frustration. Not to mention just how much influence it had that they redid some of U2s set pieces like the caravan twice, and armored truck chase in U4.

DFresh1060d ago (Edited 1060d ago )

I'd rate it as the following.

1.) Uncharted 2
(Close to perfection of any game I've played in years. Single Player/Multiplayer/Co Op all amazing.)

2.) Uncharted 3
(On par with UC2 multiplayer/co op wise minus the kickbacks [aka killstreaks]. I really liked the Lawrence of Arabia story.)

3.) Uncharted 4
(Single player is amazing. Multiplayer was meh. Co Op had potential. Absolutely hated the health revive system it slowed down the game way too much. Always preferred the fast pace action of UC2/UC3. Made it way more fun that way. Recoil was too ridiculous that most people in lobbies would only do hip firing, using power weapons and using that OP grappling hook to melee people after dropping them. Nobody wanted to revive anyone.)

4.) Uncharted
(It's the first in the series so it's hard to judge. Though I loved the story.)

NecrumOddBoy1060d ago

I agree here but it’s also a series you can play from front to back and truly enjoy. Story-wise, they are all great and flow so well. I wish they threw both Golden Abyss and Lost Legacy on this list. Lost Legacy is the best mechanically in my opinion. You can see it’s stepping stone framework for TLOUS2.

Michiel19891060d ago

uncharted 2 is one of the few games that actually surpassed its pre-release hype.

medman1059d ago (Edited 1059d ago )

I am a single player gamer...I barely ever touch a multiplayer component. The only exceptions over the years have been the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, TLOU factions, and the Uncharted 2 multiplayer. The Uncharted 2 multiplayer saw me spend more time playing it than all my other multiplayer experiences over the years combined. That game really was a masterpiece all around.

brando0081059d ago

I agree completely, those are all stellar MP experiences, coming from another SP gamer who only occasionally gives MP some time.

Gardenia1060d ago

Come to think of it, the step between Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 2 is huge. It goes from the weakest in the series to one of the best games ever made.
I think I'm going to play all of them again soon.

Ninver1060d ago

Yeah all of a sudden I've got that Uncharted itch.

Michiel19891060d ago

is multiplayer still up for the remastered trilogy? or did it never have UC2 mp?

Ninver1059d ago

@michiel1989

Not sure
