Jacob S. from Link-Cable writes: "To think that one of this holiday’s marquee titles is none other than The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, a game originally released way back in 2011. Many other companies would have moved on and potentially started work on its follow-up years ago, but Bethesda is content in re-releasing this major hit year in and year out without much issue. The game has been featured on many platforms, and will soon add both VR and Nintendo Switch to the mix more than six years later. There was no denying the game’s popularity when it first released, but what makes The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim so popular with players years after its release? That’s what I aim to find out."
As The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered takes up 125GB, original designer Bruce Nesmith recalls fitting Skyrim into a tiny file size.
Skyrim is still my favorite ES game. I’m playing through it again right now since I never finished it.
That judicious lack of oversight permeated everything in Bethesda's RPGs, in a positive fashion.
I much prefer a left alone Obsidian and Larian Studios. Bethesda's formula has grown old for me.
Skyrim blew my mind when it released. That game took me to the gaming, promisedland. Going back to it when it was updated for the PS5, it felt slightly rough around the edges, but great for its time
We should leave Obsidian alone. Bethesda on the other hand should be kept under constant psychiatric observation.
Big Bethesda Nintendo Switch eShop sale now live with lowest prices ever for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Doom (2016), and more.
On PC, it's the mod community.
The mods, and it was pretty accessible for such a big, complex game.
Probably the mods, but being powerful enough to OUT-ROAR A DRAGON AND TEAR IT FROM THE SKY probably has something to do with it, too.
Well, that and horses that are secretly gravity-challenged mountain goats.XD
to me it isn't. i was around when the first elder scrolls was released. there was a time when elder scrolls titles were benchmarks of what your computer could do. since skyrim they dropped this high quality approach and what remained was a dull, ugly 0815 western rpg. i think i quit skyrim after around 20% of the trophies. such a shame.
