Spencer: We Have Just Signed Exclusives That Won't Be Ready for 2-3 Years, No Point in Showing Them

Phil Spencer said that Microsoft have just signed exclusives that could have been showcased at E3 2017 in a trailer, but he didn't want to do that since they won't be ready for years anyway.

makes sense, people watch a trailer and start ranting "when is coming out, come on guys hurry up release it yesterday so i can go buy it 3 months ago, come on!"

Gazondaily2920d ago

Yeah makes sense and I much prefer this than eagerly waiting for a game and then the buzz dies out

-Foxtrot2920d ago

Oh please he did this shit in 2013/2014

By the time they are "ready" people will have forgotten he said this and he can easily just say something like "Well we were going to announce them but production has been moved to our next gen consoles"

All Phil does is lies out his ass to give people hope to hold onto so they'll hang in their and continue to support them.

Yep, makes sense. Microsoft won't have anything for the rest of the generation. They did it with the 360 as well. They're just going to bank everything for the beginning of the next round of consoles and hope they can get market share back.

darthv722920d ago

@fox, do you think that's what happened to Deep Down? It's getting moved to the PS5....?

jonh682920d ago (Edited 2920d ago )

Man this guy is so bad at his job... These games should have been started 2 or 3 years ago. I mean geez they have stated they were making a new console over a year ago, there must have been internal discussion about it for 6 months too a year before E3 2016.

If I was an Xbox fan i would be hugely disappointed, he is basically telling you flat out after Sea of Thieves Crackdown Ori and State of Decay there is nothing coming for 2 to 3 years.

And either way it's almost unfathomable to think that in 3 years PS5 won't have come out. Microsoft is constantly playing catch-up this gen looks like that will continue into the next gen.

bluefox7552920d ago

You'll have to forgive me if I'm suspicious of "promises" coming from Microsoft. Show, don't tell.

morganfell2920d ago

So they are going to show these exclusives right as the PS5 launches. That sounds like a good move...

S2Killinit2920d ago (Edited 2920d ago )

Oh god MS is so full of crap. False promises, deception, excuses, its never ending with them. Everytime they open their mouth its a new form of insult to intelligence.

Wallstreet372920d ago (Edited 2920d ago )

Yeah makes sense to a fanatic lol

Yeah Phil like you didn't show Crackdown, Sea of Thieves, etc for the last two to three E3s lol because they were too far out now you mysteriously show them third year in a row but it's only bcus their close to release.
You guys are hypocrites, fanatics lol it's sad

Hey Phil where's the "High Fidelity" VR you mentioned lol hahaha or the True 4K machine? Oh wait you still will use checkerboarding on most of your titles? Gotchaaaaaa

Bigpappy2920d ago

Looks like we found ourselves an honest fox. Fox only tells the true, just like Sony

morganfell2920d ago

No darth, your deflector shields have failed and your comment looks like a joke. You do not understand the vast chasm that lies between MS and Sony, do you. Is it really so difficult? Sony has a boatload of other exclusives and you want to throw one game out there to try and hold back the wall of rightful indignation over what MS is doing? Even Moldy, judas priest, even Moldy was admitting MS dropped the ball on games. But you go ahead. You go. Fight on faithful soldier. Your credibility is right down there with mikes lemonade. Well, after this remark he actually pulled ahead.

2920d ago
fenome2920d ago (Edited 2920d ago )

He said Microsoft was investing one billion dollars into games back in 2013, did it really take this long for them to "sign" some?

https://www.google.com/amp/...

Actually wait... isn't that how much they spent on Minecraft? So they spent it all on one game they could milk, that's really looking out for their fans right?

That could've gone a long way into buying actual studios that make games for you so that you don't have to sign deals. That's the only real way they won't have to rely on Gears, Halo and Forza like he claims they don't.

We've been screaming this for years, the only way they'll actually pull me over to their console as a secondary unit is if their in house studios can keep can keep giving me experiences that I can only find there. It sounds like we're just talking crap, but at the end of the day it's actually constructive criticism. I just don't see any incentives in getting one of their consoles. Im just fine with the games I'm playing right now.

_-EDMIX-_2920d ago

Sure bud.

We don't even know what he means by "exclusives". He came out with "oh we have 42 exclusives" at E3...

For all we know he is talking about some DLC for the next AC or some indie. We just don't know.

"signed" oh so they are not making them? So these are deals and not actually made from MS but just timed deals?

smh

He is just confirming how irrelevant this company as a publisher is becoming. He is not saying "we have teams owned making some games right now" he is saying "signed exclusives"

GtR35olution2920d ago

I'll wait for those exclusives like I waited for the cloud tech, and dx12,lol. By 2 to 3 years time we will be able to buy a ps5 which will have more exclusive at launch than Xbox one this whole generation.

PlayStation is the future and the future is PlayStation

freshslicepizza2920d ago

Sure it makes sense but this is also the problem Nintendo faced until now which is a huge gap in games people are looking forward to. I'm sorry but Phil is basically saying we are now ready to release these games we've been showing for years so now wait a couple more years before the next stage of games come?

Microsoft needs to get a steady stream of games and they haven't been able to. They focused on getting back the power advantage but the software is still lacking.

yomfweeee2920d ago

So you know nothing is coming in 2018 or 2019, and you don't know to know what is coming in 2020.

How does that make sense? You're buying a $500 system and have no clue what games Microsoft is going to have.

A console is a long term investment, I want to know what is coming as soon as possible.

Darth
Deep down aint developed by first party studio and its not canceled yet.. Recently the trademark licensed got renewed..

2920d ago
darthv722920d ago (Edited 2920d ago )

@above, sorry guys, just asking a question. Deep down is an exclusive and was shown near the release of the PS4 and then it went silent. If what Fox eludes to is possible for xb1 games then it may also be possible for PS4 games. Didnt know this was strictly reserved for 1st / 2nd party, thought it was about exclusives in general.

I have a genuine interest in that game and if it has gotten to the point where it may have been moved to the PS5 well... it is what it is. Dont think that my question is deflecting from anything. It's just curiosity.

@arijit... thanks for reminding me about the license being renewed. Although that usually could mean it is done so nobody else could use the name / trademark (like MS recently did with scalebound). I am hopeful we hear more about it at some point before the PS5 but, again, if it is moved to the PS5 then so be it.

Why o why2920d ago (Edited 2920d ago )

Errr....so what have you been doing for the last 2, 3 years prior to this one Phill....

Phil is waaaay slick at finessing his loyal fanbase to the point they will make excuses for the dire output under his tenure for him. I mean, why not, he's such a nice guy.

@new darth
Nothing to say on the matter or is it all about defense now. Why aren't you guys as vociferous about this, arguably a much bigger issue, than you are about bc or cross play with the same people you chastise. Priorities bros

TKCMuzzer2920d ago (Edited 2920d ago )

It doesn't make sense in MS predicament at all, they need to show why gamers should invest in their hardware. The truth is, they have only just 'signed' them becasue maybe the penny has dropped. The trouble is where will they be in three years time? In the midst of Sony announcing a next gen console with even more exclusives. Phil needs to realise that this 'exclusive' wheel is a wheel that turns all the time. By Phils thought process and your agreement you should now be playing a slew of new exclusives they announced 3 years ago.
In any media industry you need to be pro active, not reactive.

morganfell2919d ago (Edited 2919d ago )

"@above, sorry guys, just asking a question."

"I have a genuine interest in that game"

So right in the middle of this discussion about MS signing titles that are over 2 years away, BOOM you just happened to think of a 3rd party title, not made by Sony but slated for the PS4, that has dropped off the radar and you were itching to talk about it despite the subject having nothing to do with this thread. Do you realize how preposterous your deflection of the facts sounds? Do you think for a second anyone in their right mind believes you? No. They do not.

GTgamer2919d ago

Damn so Ms has no exclusives for 2-3 years 😂😂😂

bouzebbal2919d ago

Fanboys being themselves as always.
Everything spencer says makes sense obviously.
In 2-3 they will be taken by the storm of next gen. No idea what those exclusives are for by that time.

ArmrdChaos2919d ago

Just another instance of a Microsoft article turning into ANOTHER Sony circle jerk. Don't you have all of these great games you can be playing right now??? Make sure to hurry up and mark this post as unappropriate....I see how you all hate being called out. lol

Shadowlee2919d ago (Edited 2919d ago )

@john I think you have problems comprehending. Phil basically confirmed they have games after ori, sea of thieves etc within a year and later. Do the math sir

MS e3 shows games releasing 2017 and 2018 (1 year from now you following?) Phil just confirms games coming 2-3 years from now 2017 + 2(and 3)=2019 and 2020. Lol so this means game for 2017 18 19 and 20 do you understand?

@ fox he wasnt even in power 3-4 years ago lol so wtf are you talking about?

rainslacker2919d ago

Dude, Spencer just confirmed that they are just now getting games going for their system. He explicitely stated that they won't be ready until this gen is almost over.

How can any Xbox fan be cool with that?

Oh...because of the Beast right? You'll get to play the best versions of multi-plats? What about those of us who aren't interested in the beast MS has to offer. We get what for the next 2-3 years? Another Halo, Gears, 2-3 forza's, the two games that were announced years ago, and Ori.

Is that support? Do xbox gamers have such low expectations from MS that they deem this acceptable? I have an Xbox, and this pisses me off even more that I spent my money to support MS. I spent it at a time when they were looking good....and now that support I gave them lets them ride out this generation, barely delivering anything to date, and looking as if they aren't going to be delivering anything for the remaining of the gen.

This is worse than the last half of the 360, where at least MS had some content to show and release, and didn't have to keep making promises about waiting it out a couple years and they'd make it right.

Absolutely rediculous. Sony had one "sparse" holiday season and they got ripped to shreds by you and other Xbox fan boys. MS has practically nothing this year, and even less going forward to look forward to.....but youre excited at the announcement of an announceent which may or may not come in the next 1-3 years up to an vague and undefined time frame?

MagicBeanz2919d ago

How is it Septic that you get away with posting links to images of a guy holding a gun to his head? Just curious cause you seem a master at dodging the banned hammer around here, one day I'll have to have you teach me your voodoo.

mark_parch2919d ago

a agree it's best to show games just before release. but it seems a strange comment by phil, does this mean we aren't getting many exclusives for the next 2-3 years?

Gazondaily2919d ago

@rainslacker

"MS has practically nothing this year, and even less going forward to look forward to.....but youre excited at the announcement of an announceent "

You want to make up more BS whilst you're at it as you high five your cronies with their forced concern? Where am I excited?

How many articles do you want me to write where I rip them into shreds for their lack of first parties? All I said was it made sense for them not to show off a trailer until something more concrete is there and you lot jump down my throats?

"Absolutely rediculous. "

It is ridiculous that people don't command the basic ability to read.

christocolus2919d ago

@Septic

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2919d ago (Edited 2919d ago )

If he was so worried about announcing games too early he wouldn't have said anything at all. Don't you find it strange that he hasn't mentioned any details about who is actually making these games or what genre they will be?

Just to show another example how Phil Spencer is out of touch

"investing in first-party, you’ll see more of that at Gamescom next week, is really core to our strategy.”

August 2015

http://xboxenthusiast.com/n...

......

"I see what the other first-party is doing – Uncharted was an amazing game. I think Naughty Dog did a great job. I’m sure Last Guardian, when it ships this year, will be great, but I just look at the lineup and the quantity and the quality that our team’s been shipping and I feel really good about that.”

June 2016

http://www.playstationlifes...

......

"We expand when we have a great idea to build. We've been doing this with a few things lately."

2014, full twitter convo here, mentions Lift London

https://mobile.twitter.com/...

And in the end, nothing happened! People will constantly say : "good to hear, Phil", "awesome, Phil" and so on.
I'm sure people finally understands that Phil says anything you want to hear, because he is a PR dude.

Salooh2919d ago

@Septic i agree with -Foxtrot. I don't trust MS words and promises. When they actually release something i am gonna praise that thing if it is truly a good achievement. But i have to be fair also, i am glad that we know their intention toward the future releases and i hope they deliver. I believe one of the console Exclusives will be a new Age of empires and that's a huge thing , hopefully :D. But i am also hoping that the development of age of empires isn't effected by xbox since it's a console.

AmUnRa2919d ago

Are you for real??
Microsoft did the same thing in 2013 and 2014. And how long have we seen the same xbox excl. games year after year?

Let me educate you, CupHead, Sea of Thieves Crackdown 3 etc etc.
Showing your colors again, thats why you get so much disagrees.

And you know what all the negatiefs are almost always right.

fiveby92919d ago

By exclusives does this mean timed exclusives which were already in development by 3rd parties? I'll have to assume that is the case. 2-3 years (or perhaps more) is a ways off. Actions speak louder than words. We'll have to see what is really delivered. I have to wonder if MS business decisions back 3-5 years ago show they thought gaming was going mobile / casual and thus they spent less effort on cultivating various console AAA games. Whatever the case, it will take time for MS to realize any results from their pivot back to console.

TheCommentator2919d ago

MS also said they'd been burned by showing games too early in the past which is why they focused on games due out in the next 12 months this year. Several 1st party studios will be ready to bring games out next year too, like 343, Coalition, and Playground.

QUIMICOMORTAL2919d ago

Riight! cause they didnt show sea of thieves, crackdown 3 or cuphead two years ago...

gangsta_red2919d ago

Too funny...

It's as if people are new to this site.

We all know that every year after E3 we get the same;

"We've seen this already"

"We knew about this game"

"Why are they showing things from 2/3 years ago"

And now here we are and Phil in order to combat this *concern* he is now saying he would like to announce games closer to their release, now que the NEW concern from the same folks;

"Xbox won't have any games for 2 to 3 years"

"There's nothing to look forward to on Xbox"

Most of you were complaining about games being shown off too early or how they are always delayed or pushed back. Here is something that can actually stop the long wait and instead we get more people crying.

@Rainslacker

"Dude, Spencer just confirmed that they are just now getting games going for their system. He explicitely stated that they won't be ready until this gen is almost over."

Which interview did you read, because no where did he explicitly state that games would be ready at the end of this gen. Exactly how do you know that he doesn't have anything else in the pipeline?

You are beyond obvious at this point.

RommyReigns2919d ago

What is the highest number of disagrees Septic has ever had?

Skull5212919d ago

It makes perfect sense. I think everyone still recalls the BS that happened with The Last Guardian. Showed that game off almost a decade ago and it just came out, but that is Sony's style to show you games you'll play next generation, or not at all.

UltraNova2919d ago

There's no way around this anymore, xbox is becoming a joke.

_________

You're completely missing the point. How many games actually came out between when The Last Guardian was revealed and it ended up releasing? A shit ton. You put to too much emphasis on singular experiences. Do you honestly think anybody actually just sat there waiting for like a decade to just play one game? No, but it was pretty cool to be able to play it once it actually came out.

And as he also didn't show anything substantial we could also assume that there will be no major exclusives next year... as they should be "ready" by now?

BlackTar1872920d ago

Anyone who believes what MS says is dumb. Really it's a trend.

Whoever falls for this stuff and can't see the writing on the wall is at fault.
He just said they didn't show anything cause the next stuff they have will be launching at the same time as next generation is. WHO DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THAT?

Cybermario2920d ago

note: that is a 3rd party title not an exclusive.

Anonymous_Gamer2919d ago

Dragon Ball Z isnt an exclusive but enjoy your upvotes

Bluemaster772919d ago

It was in playable condition... terrible comparison

AspiringProGenji2919d ago

Whether it was exclusive or not, the point of showing games too early stands. Hell even showing a 1st party would be better than a 3rd party. He just contradicts himself like the many times he does

DivoJones2919d ago

20% is quite a bit different than "we just signed a deal".. 20% means an engine is in place and development is underway. Whereas an exclusive deal doesn't have a title, engine, release window, etc.

They should be getting rid of Sony's guy for denying EA Access, denying backwards compatibility, Denying Cross platform play with Nintendo and xbox and denying full console mods for Fallout and Skyrim.

XanderZane2920d ago

Pretty much what I was saying. Games are being held back because they aren't anywhere close to being ready to show. 2-3 years is a long time to wait for 1st party exclusives for XBox One X. The Scorpio 2 will be announced by then.

UCForce2920d ago

But it need to convince people to buy Xbox One.

rainslacker2919d ago

Singing implies they are 2nd party, or potentially 3rd party exclusives, or in this case, maybe just timed exclusive or marketing deals.

But I agree, its a long time to wait for Scorpio exclusives, and an even longer time to wait for those that already have an X1 and are wondering what kind of content is worth owning the system for....at least for those that are multi console owners and have no interest in mid-gens, or already have a PS4P(which would be me).

XanderZane2919d ago

@UCForce
I don't need to be convinced. I already own an XBox One. Will glad get an XBox One X when the time is right. In the meantime I have over 185 XB1/XBox 360 games on my XBox One HDD to play. If I get bored with those, I have over 120 PS4 games to play as well. So the wait won't bother me much. I'm sure we'll still see some exclusives every year up to that point.

letsa_go2920d ago

This is the new "Just wait until *certain date or event*" xbox fanboys love to use! Just wait until 2-3 years from now...xbox superiority!!! Ok, I will be waiting.

2919d ago
butchertroll2919d ago (Edited 2919d ago )

Phil Spencer 2 years ago :

"My strategy is more around our own first party franchises, and investing in franchises that we own, and probably fewer exclusive deals for third party content. I want to have strong third party relations, but paying for many third party exclusives isn’t our long term strategy. This year, the fact that we’re shipping Halo 5, Gears of War, Forza 6, Fable, we can only do that and build that best line-up we’ve ever seen really on the back of franchises that we own."

http://www.cinemablend.com/...

Hahaha. Now it's other way around. Before i liked 3rd party content deals, now i don't. Investing in 3rd party....if those games ever come out.

ZeroX98762919d ago

After Fable and Scalebound, I say this is the right move from Microsoft.

You can delay a game as much as you want if it's needed for it to be a great game, but don't promise something and not deliver afterwards. Better just not talk about it at all when unsure.

CaptainObvious8782919d ago

My gosh...

All this is almost getting as bad as the utter disaster that was E3 2013 for MS.

Phil, didn't you just say literally 2 days ago you wouldn't hold content back from other platforms? And now you're "signing" games. Not creating them with your first party studios, you're just throwing money at the problem.

And why the hell are you only just now, more than half way through the generation, "signing" games? Surely you've known for at least 2 years now you'd be bringing out the X, and you've only just now made deals, knowing how long it takes to finish building games. I can't even...

And what does "signed exclusives" even mean? Are they "console launch exclusives"? Are they indie? (nothing wrong with indue, but you need AAA as well) Are they just DLC?

And you've lied countless times in the past phil, so how do we even know those monumentally stupid words coming out of your mouth are even true?

I have a theory. Last gen when MS dropped support halfway through the generation, they mostly got a free pass from both the media and their fans. Fast forward to present time, I guess they thought they could get away with doing the same. They weren't expecting to torrent of backlash from both media and fans. Hell, even MOLDY is now constantly criticising MS lackluster software. So now they're panicking, reacting and "singing" deals, but those deals are going to take 3 years to complete so they've screwed themselves and their fans.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. I can not comprehend how ANYONE can support and defend this pathetic company with pathetic, lying, NOT good guy phil at the head of their gaming division. I literally can not comprehend it.

Shadowlee2919d ago (Edited 2919d ago )

Something is wrong with you ppl mentally. So your telling me all exclusive during an entire gen is signed on Day1/year 1? These companies sign off on exclusives every year. The games you see this year was signed off on years ago. The average dev time is 2-3 years so games you see today were started in 2015 or later and game youll see in 2019-2020 are game that was signed on this year 2017 or last. Death stranding is a perfect example. It wont be ready till late 2018-2019 minium and was just recently signed in 2016 yet I dont see you down sonys throat about it (nor should you be)

I dont get you ppl, how is any of this negative? Him "signing" can be also be one 1st party. In house studios still sign contracts you know lol hater gonna hate i supposed

#InPhilWeTrust 😂

Universal 082919d ago

I much prefer the "And everything we showed comes out within the next year" type of show.

I know MS has done plenty of that crap in the past where something is still a LONG ways off, so I hope they are getting away from that.

And I hope they don't cancel all of these games before they are finished.

Ok its great that they have these exclusive, nevermind the fact that they will also be on PC. So... should I buy the Xbox One X in 2 to 3 years as well when these exclusives are actually out.

You are selling me a console now, not 2 to 3 years down the line. It was bad enough that most of the things Sony showed was for 2018. Microsoft knew when the Xbox One X would be out, so how about impressive exclusive games for it now. You know like Scalebound.... oh wait they cancelled that game. How a new remake of an older cult classic like Phantom Dust.... oh wait they cancelled that gamed. Hey its okay right, because Forza 7...

Come on Microsoft, you have the most powerful console on the market coming out. Show me some games that make me go wow. And not some indie game that looks like it could run in ultra on a 3 year old laptop.

conanlifts2920d ago (Edited 2920d ago )

At least 1 or 2 of the games from sony will be delayed to 2019 as well. But even with that, unless MS show games last minute sony will still probably have the best exclusives next year.

The Issue with the statement from MS is that it could mean they have nothing else exclusive to show for 2018 other than 2 games that have been delayed from this year ( sea of thieves and state of decay 2). That would be poor. Though at the least I would expect a Halo 6 or gears 5 next year.

BlackTar1872920d ago (Edited 2920d ago )

With Sea of thieves and State Of Decay pushed back they litterly will have completed a calendar year with some embarrassing # of games on the Xbox one yet they are now selling a new console.

It is so insane XBox fanboys put up with this stuff. I mean from a logical and level-headed viewpoint it's asinine.

Seriously as an XBOX fan how can this be something you put up with?

I actually think all the games sony showed will be 2018 but if i was to have to pick one for 2019 it'd be spiderman but even that i don't think will happen.

butchertroll2919d ago

Quote :

It was bad enough that most of the things Sony showed was for 2018

......

But you have plenty of exclusive games to play on PS4 in 2nd half of the year.

Nex Machina ( June 20th )
Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy (June 30)
Syndrome (PSVR, June 30)
That's You (with PlayLink, July 4)
Pyre (July 25)
Hellblade (Aug 8 )
MatterFall (Aug 15)
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy DLC (Aug 22)
Everybody's Golf (Aug 29)
Yakuza Kiwami ( Aug 29 )
Warriors All-Stars ( August 29 )
Undertale (PS4/Vita, Summer 2017)
Knack 2 (Sept 5)
Danganronpa V3 Killing Harmony ( Sep 29th )
Ni No Kuni II (Nov 10)
Gran Turismo Sport (2017)
Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds DLC (2017)
Hidden Agendas (with PlayLink, 2017)

jokerisalive2920d ago

Great and makes sense. WAit til they are closer to completion and then show them in a more solid state.

BlackTar1872920d ago

right before the next gen starts or has started? It's absolutely laughable

conanlifts2919d ago

The next gen wont start for years. If you think about it logically xbox x is $499 at release. Many consider this too expensive. So PS5 needs to be a lot more powerful and cheaper. Factor that in and it will take least 3 years before you can increase the power to what is required in ps5 and make it at a lower cost.

BlackTar1872919d ago

when do you think next gen starts? I say ps5 October 2019 but it could be 2020 even so 2020 is 3 years that's next gen. That's my point these games are coming out art the start of next gen.

XanderZane2919d ago

Well the 9th generation already started with the Switch, but if they are lining up games for Scorpio 2 9th gen launch, they'll probably launch with about 40 exclusive games. With all the OG XBox, XBox 360 and XBox One games being able to play on it, that will be pretty impressive.

frostypants2919d ago (Edited 2919d ago )

@XanderZane, Switch is Nintendo's do-over for the current gen.

So the X is going to be 2 to 3 years old before we get new games. By that time Sony will surely have something to say about PS5. We've been hearing this since X1 came out. Same song and dance every year. Now we have to wait another 2 or 3?

Give me a break. Notice the difference between what he said and Sony. We know (based on history) that Sony has games coming because WE SEE THEM!!! MS on the other hand has been talking since 2013....

TKCMuzzer2920d ago

Eh, right when Sony are showing the PS5 with it's own exclusives that will be a generation ahead. It makes no sense, MS need to prove they are supporting the hardware they want you to stick $500 down for now, its nonsense, every gamer wants to know what is in store for their console of choice.

DaGR8JIBRALTAR2919d ago

exactly, I'm really thinking about just getting a One S instead because I still need a 4k blu-ray player.

rainslacker2919d ago

It's sound reasoning I agree, but MS should have been on this years ago. There is absolutely no reason they should be stalling this bad less than 4 years into the generation. 1st party demise aside, they should still be trying to get more games on the system by actually financing 2nd party until they can build their first party studios. This is what Sony did during the PS1 days, and into the PS2, and it came to fruition in the PS3 days, and its absolutely one of the reasons they are a market leader now.

You got downvotes by pathetic gamers for feeling hopeful about good games coming out next year. Imagine how small your brain must be to downvote someone excited for future gaming joy? It is pretty neat to see people's world view blow up in front of them as they realize Microsoft has put themselves in a driver's seat that Sony hasn't been able to touch all generation.... What's even more pathetic is the same people downvoting you are the same people wishlisting Microsoft games on their ps5s 😂

P_Bomb1d 5h ago

“Imagine how small your brain must be to downvote someone excited for future gaming joy?”

My dude your post history shits on EVERYTHING. You never have a good thing to say about anything lol! 🤣

“Getting ready for those GaaS reveals! Sony is a shadow of themselves this gen.”

You literally said this a couple of days ago. Start applying the clown make up, you hypocritical jester

derek1d 5h ago

Yep we'll see, they have alot releasing next year.

RaidenBlack1d 2h ago

NGL, next year might be one of the best years in gaming ... starting off with RE9 and GTA VI ...
and then all the good games that's been cooking
Pragmata, Sands of Time, Saros, Gears E-Day, 007 First Light, Blood of Dawnwalker,
Mortal Shell II, Onimusha, Marvel1943: Rise of Hydra
current-gen only Infinity Ward's CoD, Duskbloods
+ My guess: Wolverine, Exodus, Mudang, Crimson Desert, Clockwork etc ...
~ seems like it might get too stacked

1Victor1d ago

@rokos:”Hopefully “
I downvoted you not for been hopeful but because I have seen the same “NEXT YEAR WILL BE SPECIAL “ comment for the last 10+ and hasn’t seen anything special from Microsoft.
I hope next year will be the one that everyone been waiting for since the last 3 years of the Xbox 360, it have to be after over $80 billions spent on acquisitions.

Lightning771d ago

So the new excuse is they don't count because it's from the ABK now huh. I guess all those 3rd party games count even less because they don't own them. According to your always crappy logic.

InUrFoxHole15h ago

Lol. You haven't seen anything special? Do you even game?

OtterX1d 11h ago

Always with the "next year..."! 😂

neutralgamer19921d 10h ago

I don't know they have delivered this year and even last year. And they have a lot more content in the pipeline right now than anyone else. We can't just keep hating on MS

Indiana Jones
South of midnight
Avowed
Flight simulator
Hell Blade 2
Minecraft update
Gears of war reloaded
Indian Jones:expansion
Gears E day
Clockwork revolution
Fable
Doom the dark ages
The outer worlds 2
Grounded 2
Call of duty

OtterX1d 10h ago

How many of those titles were just buyouts of companies that were going about making their games anyways? *Throws cash - "Oh look what we made!"

dveio1d 10h ago (Edited 1d 10h ago )

This list, that's been posted again, and again, and again in every single topic like this, contains almost nothing, literally almost nothing from Microsoft's own creational thoughtprocess.

It's a bunch of former 3rd party IPs.

Now even slowly returning to Playstation in some cases like Indiana, Hellblade, probably Starfield soon too, after they were made exclusively to Xbox on purpose.

Due to Microsoft's lack for own IP material except Halo & Forza. Which, the lack of, was the sole reason for all of it to happen in the first place anyway. Please don't pretend it wasn't.

And just look at all the games that come from Obsidian alone.

You really think Obsidian wasn't already working on Avowed and South of Midnight even without Microsoft buying Zenimax?

Microsoft delivered nothing but cheques.

OtterX1d 10h ago (Edited 1d 10h ago )

@dveio THIS. Lol, this dude thinks Call of Duty wouldn't exist without Microsoft! smh 😂

neutralgamer19921d 9h ago (Edited 1d 9h ago )

Common narrative I see often — that Microsoft shouldn’t get credit for the games its studios release because they “just bought them.” But this viewpoint ignores key context and sets a double standard that other platform holders aren’t held to

No one is saying these games wouldn't exist at all without Microsoft. But let’s not pretend that having a trillion-dollar company backing a studio doesn’t make a massive difference. Obsidian never had AAA funding before the Xbox acquisition. Pillars of Eternity was crowdfunded, and their resources were always stretched thin. Now they’re working on Avowed, with proper support behind it.

Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was made by around 20 people, using borrowed equipment and doing mocap in a boardroom. It was a passion project held together by tape and willpower. Today, Hellblade II exists because they were given resources, time, and freedom — something many developers don’t get unless they’re owned by a company that believes in their vision.

ZeniMax (Bethesda’s parent company) was in real financial trouble before the Microsoft acquisition. Reports and insider accounts have pointed out how much they needed a cash infusion. And while some people want to write off Xbox’s ownership of Bethesda titles, they forget the alternative could have meant layoffs or even closures.

The same goes for Activision Blizzard. Would you really prefer the company to stay under Bobby Kotick, after all the documented workplace misconduct and toxic leadership issues? Say what you want about Microsoft, but their acquisition brought accountability and change to a company that desperately needed it.

At the same time, Xbox gets hated on for doing what every major company does. Sony bought Housemarque, Bluepoint, Insomniac — but no one says Spider-Man 2 “doesn’t count” because of that. Why does Xbox get treated differently for acquiring struggling or undervalued developers and giving them a chance to thrive?

And the idea that Xbox locks games away is outdated. They're pushing cross-platform releases, cloud gaming, Game Pass, and backward compatibility more than any other platform holder. They're not forcing all studios into live service. If anything, their upcoming lineup is less GAAS-heavy and more focused on narrative and creativity — Avowed, South of Midnight, Clockwork Revolution, Fable, Perfect Dark, Towerborne, and others show real variety.

Whether people like it or not, Xbox is now the biggest publisher in the industry and owns the most gaming IPs. But what matters more is how they treat their studios. Most of these teams were previously stuck making AA games with limited scope — now they’re getting the tools and support to aim higher.

So when people say “Microsoft didn’t make those games,” they’re missing the point. It’s not about who started the studio — it’s about who enabled them to do their best work. You don’t have to love Xbox to admit they’ve helped a lot of developers and are taking a player-first approach.

Instead of writing off everything they do, maybe try recognizing the good they’re doing for both devs and gamers. At the end of the day, we should want more studios to succeed — no matter who owns them

BeHunted1d 9h ago

I'm surprised Clockwork Revolution (BioShock meets Dishonored) isn't getting more media attention. The game looks interesting and reminds me of the old RPG games.

anast1d 8h ago

The only good game on that list is Flight sim. The rest are either average or will be average. It's not a good look for MS.

TheEroica1d 8h ago

My god.... Look how many comments are upset about microsoft's successes... 😂 This may be my new favorite thread. Not one gamer saying thanks for all the goodness coming their way, just bitter anger and downvoting the very games they themselves will purchase throughout 2026.... Sony really worked you guys over this generation.... Condolences.

DivineHand1251d 7h ago

@neutralgamer1992 You said what needed to be said.

I have heard for years from older gamers that fanboys are the biggest issue with any fanbase. They will defend or gloss over negative news as long as the correct logo is on the box and they bash the competing platform no matter how much good they are trying to bring.

Right now their advocacy for PlayStation is elevating that platform so high that Sony no longer believes they need to do anything to satisfy their loyal fanbase like they did in the PS4 days.

I just hope most of them will eventually start advocating for themselves and encourage others to do the same. No one should blindly support one platform because these companies do not care about anything other than profit.

neutralgamer19921d 7h ago

Hunted

And first proper game done by the studio with proper AAA budget and saying it will be released when ready

Anast

I believe we went through this before that you are objectively wrong. Meta critic, user reviews, game sales. In Playstation top 10 best selling games were 5 from Microsoft studios

Otter

No this dude is saying so many other studios wouldn't be thriving without MS money and people would be getting abused physically and mentally with Bobby kotick and his side kicks

Also maybe look up how the original founder of Bethesda and zenimax was kicked out of his own company by his best friend lawyer. So that was always a shady place and had been struggling financially before MS paid a premium of almost 7 billion

Eroica

I use to be a die hard Playstation fan and now I only have a Pc. I see how these fans are so toxic. They just can't handle any positive news regarding Xbox. When the best selling games on playstation are Xbox titles. Look at Forza horizon being best seller and that's years old game by MS. I guess ms don't deserve credit for that success too since they are the only company in gaming making acquisitions

Forget the fact Sony paid 3.6 billion for bungie and MS 6.9 for zenimax. Which investment has turned out better

Destiny and marathon with a lot of controversy

While zenimax output is nothing short of amazing compared to what bungie has released

crazyCoconuts1d 6h ago

Yeah it's tricky. "Xbox" has morphed to mean different things to different people.
Console, now Windows, GamePass, and the cross platform games. There's a mix of attitudes towards all those things individually, and maybe an overarching attitude towards MS. But can't argue that the game companies MS recently bought continue to flourish, and GamePass PC has been a great value over the last year.

They've had good output so far. So waiting for those games shouldn't be a problem.

Who cares if they're buy outs of companies or whatever excuse you want to make. They're games that are being distributed to other console. Play the games and enjoy it instead of fanboying or complaining.
