Kinda casts doubt on the all digital future. Anyone with datacaps is screwed.

Godmars2902918d ago

"I am good fortunately."

Which doesn't mean much to the general argument.

Jmanzare2918d ago

Even with physical media you have to download the game the disc is basically just a license to play the game. And then there's day one patches.

bouzebbal2918d ago

Long live physical support

2pacalypsenow2918d ago

@Jmanzare

Pretty sure the game gets installed from the Blu ray.

Xb1ps42918d ago

@godmars

And what's the general argument? That ppl like him and I are not caped so we should be held back?

Jmanzare2918d ago (Edited 2918d ago )

@2pacalypsenow
I think so too.I was only bringing it up because of the storage. By buying a physical copy you're not saving any space on your hdd just data if that's an issue. And the ability to sell your game I that's something you like to do.

Godmars2902918d ago

@Xb1ps4:
The general argument is that it doesn't apply to you, until it applies to you. Meaning that if things continue as they are, internet use costs and restrictions will only continue to grow until fewer and fewer people can afford them.

Mr Pumblechook2918d ago

Xbox One X is a premium console in which you pay over double the price of the Xbox One for the sole purpose of 4K. It also requires (if you want to experience it at its best) a premium 4K tv. If you can afford these I'm sure you can afford a superior internet service.

@bigpappy Just wait till congress and the FCC kills net neutrality, then you won't be good.

Army_of_Darkness2917d ago

First thing on my mind was.. "next gen consoles better come standard with at least 2tb hdd... At least 2tb! Is that so much to ask?!

Allsystemgamer2917d ago

Yup. All 4k on pc goes from 25gb to 50gb (at launch).

That's why I got 8 tb of storage lol.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ2918d ago

Any game with 4k textures is going to take up a lot of space lol. Does Pro have any games that use 4k textures, or is every game that runs native 4k uses the 1080p assets?

XanderZane2918d ago (Edited 2918d ago )

Glad I have a 4TB HDD for my XB1. I'll have to get at least an 8TB for my XBox One X.

Most of the game is down loaded from the disk, but update patches are then downloaded from the servers.

oSHINSAo2918d ago

Bandwidth too, so no problem, and thanks for the Preload option

subtenko2918d ago

and most ISP's are getting more ridiculous. At least upgrade the standard speeds....I've seen the cell phone industry move faster from 1g to 4,5,6 whatever g we at G. The prices are alright...well...better than the broadband comparison. 100mbps should be the default mid tier for everyone by now for a lower price.

This is why bigger, non proprietary HDD support and large disc media like Bluray were necessary to push as standard. Games are just getting bigger and bigger in file sizes.

That's a lot of gigs.

Yet physical media is purposely being ignored and not accounted for as internet providers want to throttle every penny out of their customers.
=======================

It isn't being ignored by Sony. The PS 4 has tons of storage space awa [checkerboard] compression / decompression modules

https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

============================= =======
Hardware modules[edit]
Module Name Purpose/capability Ref.

AMD TrueAudio This package of user-programmable audio DSPs offloads audio processing from the CPU. Possible effects include 3D audio effects, audio compression and decompression, reverberation, and voice stream processing. [66]

Upload/download Capable of uploading and downloading data to the hard disk

Video compression/decompression Capa ble of encoding/decoding video formats on-the-fly. These modules are AMD's UVD for hardware video decoding and AMD's VCE for hardware video encoding, used for recording SharePlay videos in the background.[examples needed]

Zlib decoder Decoding of compressed data from the Blu-ray optical drive

WiFi module Marvell Wireless Avastar 88W8797 Wireless communication : IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 (EDR).
Skyworks 2614B 315BB
[67]

HDMI module HDMI output [57]

Ethernet controller Marvell Alaska 88EC060-NNB2 Ethernet 10/100/1000 support [58]

USB controller USB 3.0 support
=============================

Storage[edit]
Blu-ray disc[edit]

The read-only optical drive reads Blu-ray discs at 6× constant angular velocity for a maximum read speed of 27 MB/s – a significant upgrade from the PS3's 2× speeds that were capped at 9 MB/s.[50][52]

To further enhance optical drive performance, the PS4 features a hardware on-the-fly zlib decompression module (a special piece of hardware used to quickly decompress the data on the Blu-ray disc, which has been compressed to save space and bandwidth), allowing for greater effective bandwidth, whilst at the same time, the console continuously caches data onto its hard disk, even buffering unread data when a game is not actively accessing the optical drive, forming part of Sony's PlayGo strategy.
==========================

AWA

========================
Auxiliary processor[edit]
PS4 includes a secondary ARM processor (with separate 256 MiB of RAM) to assist with background functions and OS features.[51]
===========================

A separate ARM processor + 256MB RAM, to do it all in the background, leaving the full 8GB GDDR 5 for the games.

frostypants2918d ago

Something will give...either physical media will return to total dominance, or ISPs will cave.

Godmars2902917d ago

This isn't so much about the technical side, but rather business. While the initial intentions may have been good, online is becoming more and more about retaining control. Turning games from a product to a service where publishers and IP holders hold more rights than consumers. The whole thing regarding Internet providers and throttling is just a bonus of sorts.

freshslicepizza2918d ago

It's a good thing it comes equipped with a 4k drive so that people watching movies don't have to worry about all those big files being streamed if they are worried about data caps and good connections.

MegamanXXX2918d ago (Edited 2918d ago )

The Xbox one S also has a 4K drive in it so would that make any difference?
Do people still buy blu-ray movies disc btw? Yet alone do people buy 4K blu-ray movies? PC gamers don't need 4K drives I don't even think they have the option to install a 4K drive in their PC. Makes me think do you really need a 4K drive if you're a PC gamer.

This drive is only in Japan and it's not out yet

https://www.google.com/amp/...

freshslicepizza2918d ago

yes it does make a difference with Xbox One S having it too, its another selling point. And yes people do buy 4K movies

https://www.amazon.com/Sony...

Maybe you should ask Sony why they make standalone players?

r2oB2918d ago

@ moldy

They probably make a standalone player for people that want to watch movies. Just like they probably left it out of the PS4 PRO so they didn't have to pass that cost to the majority of people that don't want to pay extra for something they don't need.

Why should every PS4 gamer pay for something that probably less than 10% would actually use on a consistent basis.

freshslicepizza2918d ago

So it was good for Sony to use the PS1 to play music CD's, which was $100 more than the current competition, good for Sony to use PS2 for watching DVD's and good for Sony to have an even more expensive option ($599 over 10 years ago) for bluray, but its too much of an additional cost now even though the system is also quite a bit more powerful than the PS4 Pro and comes with 12GB of DDR4 Ram?

GTgamer2918d ago (Edited 2918d ago )

@moldy
Welllllllll have you noticed that 4k games don't need a 4k blu ray driver :) so of course Sony didn't need to put a 4k blu ray drive because unlike the ps1 ps2 and ps3 it doesn't Need it for the games but then again comments sense and you once again are strangers.
When you can give the stats of how many people actually buy 4k blu ray movies then you'll have an argument because everyone I meet seems to All be using streaming services and I get the stats for that.

r2oB2918d ago

@ moldy

PS1 games are CD, a CD drive is necessary.
PS2 games are DVDs, a DVD drive is necessary.
PS3 games are blu rays, a blu ray drive is necessary.
PS4 games are not 4k blu rays, a 4k blu ray drive is not necessary. They are installed from standard blu ray discs, a standard blu ray drive is necessary.

It just so happened that last generations the games media and movie media matched. It currently doesnt match because 4k games are on standard blu rays while 4k movies are on 4k blu rays. Im pretty sure if 4k games required 4k discs, it would have a 4k drive. But it doesnt. PS4 and Pro are gaming consoles so they focus on games. Having a 4k drive is a bullet point, it doesnt enhance games in any way at all.

letsa_go2918d ago

On an article about forza 7's install size, you talk about the benefit of 4k bluray drives. Are you mental? Were you dropped on your head as a baby?

freshslicepizza2918d ago

I never said it was needed but Forza 7 is 100GB, I think the PS4 allows 4 layer up to 128GB? I'm not sure. The point is many bought those past machines for dual purpose, not just to play games. So why is this not also a selling feature on Xbox One S and X?

Sony opted to not have one to keep costs down, that's fine but when people ask why one cost more than the other there are multiple reasons why.

Now to get back on topic here, streaming 4K videos will also eat up a lot of data. Which is why I brought up the 4K drive which could help those with data caps.

rainslacker2918d ago

What do 4K movies have to do with 4K gaming?

TheUndertaker852917d ago (Edited 2917d ago )

@r2oB The Xbox One S gained a 4K drive and it did not increase the price over the original Xbox One at the same time

@GTgamer: Welllllllll have you noticed that 4K patches or updates are then always required for that content and doesn't come on disc? As the PS4 & PS4 Pro use a similar Blu-Ray drive to the PS3 capped at 50GB disc capacities? 4K drives support over double that.

INMATEofARKHAM2918d ago (Edited 2918d ago )

neoandrew2918d ago

Funny thing is that downloading is way faster than it would be installed from bluray.

chrisoadamson2918d ago

aren't all internet packages unlimited these days ?! I'm in little old Ireland . 320mb fibre with unlimited. will download that in no time

Neonridr2918d ago

yeah, I have unlimited as well (although only 60mb). Not everyone has those packages yet though.

INMATEofARKHAM2918d ago

Not in the states... Comcast is notorious for have caps as are a few other ISPs. Sadly, there basically a monopoly in their area as you have few choices or none at all. So you pretty much have to take your ISP's shit and just deal with it.

TheUndertaker852918d ago (Edited 2918d ago )

Look at Satellite and Radio Internet providers. They all have caps still and low ones.

I live in a rural area in Colorado in the US and have a 350GB cap. They charge for every 10GB after.

Stating Comcast. They at least don't enforce their cap policy unless you go massively over which last I knew was 500GB a month then capping already high speeds. Up to 1GB in households now.

Rise Broadband
Exede Wireless
HughesNet

Centurylink is getting better but they have a 350GB cap they also enforce

dcbronco2918d ago

It's a shame people in the U.S. don't hold their congressmen responsible for the state of broadband in some areas. Lack of competition isn't a accident, it was codified into law for most areas. But never for themselves. In the D.C. area you get 940mb download and 880 upload along with phone and an extensive HD cable package including HBO for a year for $80. With a terabyte limit. This is on Verizon. Comcast has 250 down for $49 in the same package.

People sit quietly and let them cheat them or are stupid enough to vote against their entrust in elections. And they're in the process of making it worse by killing net neutrality. Wait till they kill that. You'll really have something to complain about.

2pacalypsenow2918d ago

I get 300mbps from Comcast capped at 1tb a month,

UnHoly_One2918d ago

I have Charter Spectrum at 100Mbps and I'm so glad I don't have a data limit.

I look at the usage history on my Xbox One, keep in mind that this is JUST for the Xbox one, and I've seen it higher than a TB in a single month.

That is not including my girlfriend using her Xbox, or all the Netflix she watches, or all the UFC Fight Pass that I stream. Plus general internet browsing, etc...

I would probably break a TB limit every single month if I didn't change my habits.

Not in capitalist U.S.A. where nickle & dimeing citizens is a sport. Unlimited bandwidth would be considered as crazy as free health care. Communism!

bluefox7552918d ago (Edited 2918d ago )

If you think capitalism is to blame, you don't know anything about economics. It's cronyism. Big corporations lobby the government to enact "regulations" (ya know, to protect the people), but reality it means squeezing out smaller competition that can't afford them so the big corporations have no one to compete with. That ain't capitalism.

dcbronco2918d ago

BlueFox actually capitalism is exactly what it is. This is an example of what really happens as opposed to the nonsense they keep telling people it is. When it comes to the "free market" it is a lie. If this wasn't how capitalism truly worked the vast majority of the huge corporations we have would have gone out of business decades ago. The CEOs aren't creative, they pay off congressmen and exploit the general population. And they use the stupidity of the people and the media to get the general public to volunteer to get screwed over. Anyone can read about how they pitted slaves against each other based on skin tone, age and work assignments. But the American public hasn't caught on to the same method being used to divide and conquer the whole country. Pffft, Merica. Good luck with that.

JackStraw2918d ago

@bluefox He didn't say capitalism, he said capitalist USA. And he's right. If people are going to point fingers at Soviet Russia as how communism is the devil then we need to do the same for capitalism in America. Cronyism is just what happens when you let capitalism run rampant.

Fortunately storage devices are cheap as chips these days although it's somewhat of a double edge sword (less compression by devs) but with uncompressed audio, higher resolution textures etc things will only get bigger.

Well XBOS and XBOX support 4K Bluray which supports 100GB storage. But games that are on 4K Bluray would have to abandon the OG Xbox One. Which will probably happen anyway. I think every 6 years the oldest model will be phased out. Because it simply wouldn't be able to handle the new games. So in 3 years when the Xbox One XL comes out. The OG Xbox will be phased out, maybe sooner because MS already doesn't even mention the OG XBO. It will probably still play most games but not the newest AAA ones. I imagine you wouldn't be able to see the games that it doesn't support in the store.

As I said in another post, I'm sure Forza will look, play, and be consistently amazing across all platforms like it generally is. But MS knows better than showing off the PC version of content at their Xbox events. They've been bashed for doing this before, and if I'm not mistaken Forza Motorsport was one of the main ones getting bashed for it back at the XBO launch.

SullysCigar1095d ago

We get it, MS: As PCs get better, so do the textures and grass density.

z2g1094d ago (Edited 1094d ago )

Funny everyone gushed about gran turismo 7 being gorgeous and it’s running on less power than Xbox…

Forza Horizon 5 looks absolutely fantastic on Series X. Looks better than gt7 by a fair amount. If that’s indication about Forza Motorsport then it’s gonna be even better cuz it’s not open world like Horizon. No matter what it’s going to look significantly better on much more powerful hardware. Series x is twice the power of the one X. Your comment feels like solid troll.

SullysCigar1094d ago (Edited 1094d ago )

^ GT7 is running on a PS5, right? MS show their games on top end PCs that their consoles can't match. Have done for years.

ABizzel11092d ago

@z2g

Well, Digital Foundry confirmed that it was running on PC, as I said, so.....

https://youtu.be/IAScjCswzi...

porkChop1094d ago (Edited 1094d ago )

Who said it was running on PC?

ABizzel11094d ago

Apparently, it's being said it was running on PC with Series X targeted performance after one of the devs said the trailer was running on Series X, but didn't confirm if the gameplay demo was. But it's looking more like they meant both were running on devkits, and people are running with it because the devkits have more VRAM, even though everything the CPU and GPU are the same as the Series X.

RaidenBlack1094d ago

TopGear article states it was running on Series X

https://www.topgear.com/car...

ABizzel11092d ago

To follow up, Digital Foundry also stated it was the PC version as well.

So....Yeah shame on MS.

https://youtu.be/IAScjCswzi...

porkChop1091d ago

Interesting. That's a shame. Hopefully the Series X version looks roughly the same. I'd prefer they be a bit more transparent. If it's PC, SX, cutscene, etc., just say that.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Better luck next time.

ABizzel11094d ago

That's what I meant, I hope it's not true it seems like they meant it was running on devkits still and not PC which is better, considering the devkits are literally the same CPU and GPU as the Series X although allegedly with higher clocks, and confirmed 40GB of VRAM.

And considering it's still more than half a year away that's fine. But we'll see I guess Spring 2023.

ABizzel11091d ago

I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt but it's been confirmed to be running on PC, so yep this is the second time they're done this.

Now all the disagree's and hidden outrage are saying does it matter 😂😂😂

Obscure_Observer1091d ago

"Now all the disagree's and hidden outrage are saying does it matter"

Like I said before, they first presented Forza Motorsport running on PC. People were skeptical on how well the Xbox One X would run that game, let alone the One and One S. Turn out that FM7 run amazing across all Xbox platforms.

That´s their latest track record, so I´m not sure what exactly you´re trying to achieve or what point your trying to make.

darkrider1095d ago

Much better lighting, but I think the big jump was to f7. The locked 60 frames and they reached 4k. I think maybe when they are able to do 120 frames. That could be the next big jump. Beside the fact that racing games are meant to play inside cockpit not 3rd person. Anyone that races knows this

darthv721094d ago

Someone who never grew up playing pole position or outrun I see...
Its perfectly fine to race in whatever view a person chooses. It's not real life, no matter how detailed the car models, interior or track design may be. Just have fun with it and remember... go fast.

darkrider1094d ago

No. Simulators go for inside cockpit. That like all that compete play it. Arcade is 3rd view. Thats why when people talk about the track and trees and people we can know they aren't racers. But casuals that play sometimes.

Orchard1094d ago

The new Forza looks miles ahead of any other racing game on console today, including FH5 and GT7.

Simply looks spectacular.

Obscure_Observer1094d ago

Simply looks spectacular.

Indeed. The more I look at this game, the more hyped I become.

Man... I believe Fable will be simple out of this world.

RaidenBlack1094d ago

ForzaTech for Fable was a really interesting decision. And its commendable that they chose the sprawling ForzaTech over the common UE for their Fable.(the easy route)
But the conversion will take time. The engine's proprietary and was modified only for Horizon series.
Implementing it for an RPG like Fable will take substantial amount of time. Scripting, dialogue tree, inventory system etc.
And this was leaked recently too, that PGgames was having trouble with the development. (the job's not easy)
The situation is quite similar to Bioware's DA Inquisition development. Their first implementation of Frostbite.
They had loads of trouble. They had to write a lot of code/scripts from scratch.
But PGgames has the reputation, they'll eventually pull through. Its just that they initial dev phase will take a bit more time. Once done, the Fable sequel wont be that big of a hurdle. Because the framework will be there.

darkrider1094d ago

No it doesnt. You were already warned about that kind of talk. Play games and not corporations. Again the big jump was the last one that went for the first time to 4k and 60frames. This seems cool, but the jump in rez and frames isn't. It got Higher setting. This games isn't running at 8k at 120 frames. And if you play Gt7 on ps5 you would understand that the dualsense make a huge difference in driving. From acceleration to braking, to feeeling the track and curves. Now thats miles away of what the game pad of the Xbox is able to do.

Orchard1094d ago (Edited 1094d ago )

Warned about saying Forza Motorsport looks better than Forza Horizon 5 & GT7? What? It's not illegal to compare games across one genre, lol.

"Play games and not corporation"
Is Forza not a game?

No one is expecting this game to run at 8k120hz lol, but the graphics look great, and in-race raytracing is huge. Also, the damage & dirt model looks great, as well as the changes in handling caused by temperature etc.

No one is denying that the DualSense adds to games, but it's not make or break. Plenty of great games are on other platforms or even PS5 games that feature minimal DS support.

The visuals here are breathtaking though, and the tracks & environment are so detailed. If you can't see how good this looks, it might be time to visit the optician.

Forza Motorsport 8 is going to look amazing. Especially considering it’s a next gen only game.

darthv721186d ago

7 is such a highly polished game on the One X that to imagine what a Series only version of 8 would be is mind blowing.

fr0sty1185d ago

Visually, GT7 is a strange one... Some tracks look jaw-dropping, others look like they came out of GT Sport, low res track textures (that seem to lack any bump mapping, etc. to help add depth) and all. It's like they filled in incomplete areas with GTSport assets.

However, when it comes to weather simulation, physics, control (the dualsense really adds a lot to this one), etc... GT7 is unmatched.

FinalFantasyFanatic1185d ago (Edited 1185d ago )

There were alot of times there where a thought Forza looked better, but there were a few times there where I vastly prefer GT's look, other time there it was a tossup. Like the crowds, at a distance, GT's look better, close up, I think I prefer Forza's aesthetics, overall, I think I prefer Forza's visuals (although GT's Ray Tracing elements look amazing compared to Forza).

@fr0sty,

I couldn't agree more, GT7 really does look strange, sometimes it looks fantastic, and other times Forza just looks vastly better.

Obscure_Observer1186d ago

Yeah. Hilarious how Xbox that would be held back by the Xbox One, will be the first platform to release a true next gen racing game in contrast with Sony´s GT7 that was promised to be a true next gen PS5 game.

If FM7 is this close to GT7 (superior in some visual and gameplay departments), I can´t even imagine how Sony´s flagship racing game will fair against the next Forza Motorsport.

1186d ago
Chris121186d ago

GT6 - 81

Now you look a fool.

@HenryFF - a 2 point better score over a 5 year old game that looks almost as good visually.

I guess if you're desperate for a win and you can get over the stupidity of your argument then go for it. Lets hope GT7's actual competitor, FM8, doesn't score better otherwise you'll have to change your user name again to hide the shame.

Do pc games have generations🤔
Gt 7 is a cross gen game, its not gen 8 or 9, it's in between.
We are talking about a maxed pc game vs a cross gen game.

frostypants1185d ago (Edited 1185d ago )

They still have to target the Series S though. "Next gen only" with a caveat. If we're going to acknowledge that having to target lesser hardware holds some stuff back, that scenario is absolutely at play here. Obviously not as much as it could, but to an extent.

If only I could buy Forza 7 on my xbox series S.....

dumahim1186d ago

Guessing the downvotes are from people not understanding that you can't purchase the game from the stores anymore since it was delisted.

lodossrage1186d ago

can't they just buy a used physical copy from gamestop, or best buy?

CML21186d ago

^^
Series S is digital only.

FyBy1185d ago

Wow thats a bummer. 8 is not even out. I read its only after 4 years because licences for cars and tracks expired. Really? Thats really strange. Its huge game to have a lifespan only 4 years and without succesor.

darthv721186d ago

before it was removed, I was playing it on gamepass and it was excellent on the SS. It ran as if it was one x enhanced with 60fps and everything. Thankfully I also have it on disc so I can pop it into my SX to keep playing it.

metalgod881186d ago (Edited 1186d ago )

Just FYI, the Xbox Series S is digital only. I don't have a disc drive, and the game was delisted as Dumahim said.

It looks awesome, but sadly, I may never get a chance to play it.

MadLad1186d ago

Just grab it when the series X is more available.
With the console shortage, the series s won't be dropping in value anytime soon.
Used ones basically sell for new. So you can upgrade for just a couple hundred bucks if you're diligent and look around.

darthv721186d ago

Id say if you really want to play it, get a cheap One X, it looks and plays great on that as you can get the disc version also for cheap. I still use a one X even though I have both Series S and X. My Series S i am going to turn into a portable unit with its own screen attached to take on trips. I love how small that system is and how it compares to the one X in terms of performance (and then some).

Orchard1186d ago

Or it shows how dated GT7 really is. The tracks in particular are so lifeless, dated and bare.

Nostalgia is what is delivering the game good reviews.

EvertonFC1186d ago

Yet sells 10million plus compared to motorsports 2 million.

Orchard1186d ago

I can’t play sales numbers though, can I?

Nor does it make any difference to me since I’m not an investor in either company.

Visuals on the other hand, I experience as a player and are core to my experience.

1186d ago
King Nezz1186d ago

Every time someone uses sales I just use the Toyota vs Ferrari example. Toyota always will sell more. Both are great. But we know which of the two is better.

Imortus_san1186d ago

LOL, sure it does, GT 6 and GT Sport fiasco send regards, after beeing 19.99 in less them 6 months and beeing bundled with every possible PS for more them a year.

RauLeCreuset1186d ago

@Orchard

You had no problem playing sales numbers and lecturing about how corporations with shareholders function when you needed an excuse to crap on PSVR2 and excuse make for why the attach rate argument you were trying to use against it didn't apply to Game Pass:

"1. How many units? They just say it sold more than the past models combined, but we don't actually have numbers to work out if that's 10 mil or 100 mil.

"2. How many of those purchases are mainstream gamers? It could be companies or people buying for other VR formats."

"PS4 has a huge install base, but only a small percentage bought a PSVR. I don't see this changing massively with PSVR2."

"Spoken like a true business expert. The idea/business plan for a business/product is to grow its base beyond those who already own the device. Shocker."

"I'm not the only one ignoring it/thinking it is a gimmick, the overwhelming majority of PS4 owners are also ignoring it and considering it a gimmick alongside me."

"PSVR did have a high price - what makes you think PSVR2 will not? As for Kinect (off-topic, bur whatever) costing the same as a video game... what video games were you buying? My 360 kinect set me back $150... and games were cheaper back then than they are today... but you make a good point - Microsoft discontinued the Kinect due to it being a failure - and it still sold 4x PSVR and in less time... but some how I'm meant to believe people are chomping at the bit to get a VR device..."

"@ApocalypseShadow Ignoring your immature comments about being a kid since I am not, nor do I resort to trying to insult during a discussion. I don't expect anything to go 'viral' overnight. But I do expect a device to sell more when its platform has 115m+ units out there. Kinect even outsold PSVR in numbers, with less Xbox 360's being in the wild than PS4's. And Kinect was a failure."

"You're once again comparing hardware to a subscription service. If you want to compare subscription services, then yes, game pass is beating the equivalent/competing service by around 10x."

"If you genuinely think selling a few million units when your TAM is 115+ million, then I'm sorry but you're out of touch with what success is for a business."

"This statement just shows you have no understanding of how corporations with shareholders function... you're probably one of these people who think the big corporations are your friend. Shareholders, and by extension, corporations, directly determine success as revenue, market share & growth. Lower than expected revenue = failure and the product is more likely to be discontinued at some point in the future if the trend continues (see Vita, Kinect, Dreamcast... etc)"

Many of those comments are collapsed, but they're all (and more) below this comment for this link:

annoyedgamer1186d ago

I dont have either of these games so I dont have a dog in this fight but it must be pointed out that high sales numbers doesn't make a game better. By such a metric, Fortnight is the best game ever made.

fr0sty1185d ago

"who cares if the driving physics are garbage as long as it's pretty!"

*in the same breath*

"Sales don't make a good game!"

@Orchard,

Ok, that nostalgia argument doesn't have weight. It's not like Forza is a new thing. Forza has a bit of nostalgia going for it too.

Theres nothing really visually exciting about race tracks in real life. Driving on them is the thrill and GT7 nails it.

BehindTheRows1186d ago (Edited 1186d ago )

Driving will always be where GT beats Forza. Just so happens that GT7 also looks better than every Forza game released. Yes, Motorsport 7 (on PC, mind you) holds up nicely, but GT7 still tops it visually. Its cars are completely unmatched.

1186d ago
Kraffty231186d ago

They've shown comparison shots between real world tracks and the game and many shots are nearly indistinguishable, circuit tracks aren't meant to look like driving through a muddy overgrown swamp. What's delivering the great reviews is the fact its a great racing sim. The King is back.

Father__Merrin1186d ago

have you an example of making a track more full of life in a sim game? explosions in background or airplanes doing overheads etc is more suited to arcade game like horizons 5

Knushwood Butt1186d ago

GT7 has plent of aircraft, but that's not good enough for some folks.

Knushwood Butt1186d ago

I was racing at Daytona yesterday in a race with a transition from dusk to night and thought the circuit looked amazing. Tons of detail everywhere.

Maybe you could elaborate on how it looks lifeless, dated and bare?

bradleejones1186d ago

GT7 is completely bad ass. The cafe is a little out of place but besides that the physics are spot on. Car models are awesome. Amount of cars, tracks are awesome. I wouldn't call it dated lol it just came out a week ago and I don't see anything outdated about it besides it's GT so there is progression.and license tests which is the way it should be. Makes sure you know what you're doing and have the equipment and skill to move forward.

ScootaKuH1185d ago

Not really. GT7 is a very good game in its own right. Nostalgia has nothing to do with it

Rimeskeem1185d ago

Certainly hope the tracks would be lifeless.

Don't wanna hit a deer on my way to victory.

frostypants1185d ago

The tracks look like their real life counterparts. Real life doesn't always look like a carnival. The "made up" tracks could be amped up a bit though.

What I thought. The article should make ir clear.

Magog1367d ago

Don't worry there will be another 10 Forza games before the decade is over

Bad written article doesn't give reason.

MadLad1368d ago

I hate seeing this happen.

It's a game.
Pay a lump sum and go on about your business.

This is why emulation is almost a necessity in this day and age.

MadLad1367d ago

Not really.
Just heard Sony is tying the upcoming Gean Turismo to an always online system. Even for singleplayer.

Diablo and Sim City also tried this in the past. If that's the case your only options is them reversing that choice, or 3rd party servers and emulation.

dumahim1367d ago

@TheRealTedCruz

That's a fair point. Hopefully before the game is shut down they'll provide an update so it can be played offline.

Amplitude1368d ago

Yet another reason why we shouldn't be embracing digital games as the future

MadLad1368d ago

You have Sony putting physical releases on an always online system just to play single player.

Companies like Valve have a system in place to back up your entire catalogue, even if their servers shut down.

The issue isn't digital vs physical; it's which companies are actually respecting your past purchases.

HellspawnPR19811368d ago

Wrong, you can always redownload the game and DLC (if you bought them before they get delisted).

DarkZane1368d ago

@CrimsonIdol PT is not even a game, it's a demo that you actually never paid for. I am pretty sure you never had any ownership on it, so they could revoke it completely.

Teflon021367d ago

I have the OG scott pilgrim game for ps3 I can download at anytime as well as Marvel vs Capcom 2 and a few others. OG Dragon Quest XI etc. A test version of a game is an entirely different situation.

Sunny_D1367d ago

"You have Sony putting physical releases on an always online system just to play single player."

What games are you referring to?

plmkoh1367d ago

Nice gas lighting there, as expected from a cuck like Ted Cruz.

You have Sony putting physical releases on an always online system just to play single player.***

You mean the GAME which hasn't been delisted and has even been re-released under the PS Classics label for both Bluray and PSN, which is £15.99 max??? The same game you can put onto your PS 5 and either move it to SSD, or run it from disk, or better still unplug your PS 4 external drive and plug it into the PS 5... Where it will instantly be added to you PS 5 library, which can be re-downloaded from PSN. Backward compatibilty is only useful if the games are still there. AKA Legacy Software, Once you input the disk in the PS 5, it will give you the option to go ONLINE to update the many Software/game updates awa..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

The game launched with 168 cars and 29 tracks; post-launch game updates have brought the count to 324 cars and 82 track configurations as of December 2019.[2][3][4] The free updates also added a more traditional single-player campaign mode to the game.[5]***

AWA a TRADITIONAL Single Player Campaign mode, plus all the Tracks/ Cars released in the last 4 years.. CLUE: GT 7 has a GT Sport button meaning B/C from WITHIN the game, which is why single player requires ONLINE access.

With GT 6 I had to keep my PS 3 going, even when GT Sport released... Now with GT Sport I can simply use my PS 5 and have the best of both worlds... Oh btw re car licences.. Car manufacturers love having their cars in sims, as exposure means new customers.. The only manufacturer who arrogantly wanted money, was Porsche, so PD gave them the finger and used RUF instead. Porsche announced their partnership with GT Sport
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

at the international Car Motorshow at Frankfurt, where they announced "The Living Legend" awa a Vision car... The Porshe being shown in the GT 7 trailer was the Living Legend... Which means that GT Sport and GT 7 will be supported for long time to come.

***Companies like Valve have a system in place to back up your entire catalogue, even if their servers shut down.***

Valve isn't a charity.. They charge 30% to devs/pubs, which is the same that Sony charges.. Sony however charges that for a SIMULTANEOUS release, on PSN and retail, pressed at their Digital Audio Disk pressing plants across the globe. Epic only charges 15% and has free games, the only reason PC fanboys stick with Steam is because of the legacy software at the Steam store/account.

***The issue isn't digital vs physical; it's which companies are actually respecting your past purchases.***

Rubbish. PC fanboys will be denied the game via Gamepass if it was released there[??] same as newbie Series S/X who are future buyers. Every Forza to date has been delisted apart from Forza Horizon 4... Yet the next out is Horizon 5, not Forza 8.

12 something [= Something is afoot Watson]... When the Brit spinoff is being released before the American ACTUAL game. They are supposed to be doing Fable also.

Forza 7 Oct 2017
GT Sport Oct 2017
Horizon 4 Sept 2018
Horizon 5 Nov 2021
GT 7 March 2022

Looks like someone jumped the gun.. lolol
