Scorpio Has Enough Power In Principle To Deliver 4K/60fps,Our Engine Is Scaleable:Project CARS 2 Dev

Slightly Mad Studios' Andy Tudor already confirmed a few days ago that the studio does not plan on holding back the Xbox Scorpio version of Project CARS 2 because of the comparatively weaker PS4 Pro, and that they will instead look into leveraging the Scorpio the best that they can. Apparently, the reason they can do so is because of their PC development spec, which allows them to detect different hardware configurations already, and scale their offering accordingly.

The fact that he said "in principle" is interesting. Maybe a cpu bottleneck is holding the GPU back from being 60 fps?
Edit: nvm they just dont know yet

slavish02948d ago

The game is in early Development

dumahim2948d ago

Wouldn't call it early. It's supposed to be out in a few months.

moegooner882948d ago

No it isn't. It is slated for release this year.

freshslicepizza2948d ago

Every multiplat title should be scalable to the hardware it's on.

butchertroll2948d ago

Game is slated for this year. So, game is not in early development.

TheCommentator2948d ago

Not really. The devs appear to be deciding on if resolution or PQ is more important from what I've read. There's always going to be trade offs no matter how powerful a system is.

343_Guilty_Spark2948d ago (Edited 2948d ago )

You're so salty

All the PS fans hoping there is some secret CPU bottleneck

butchertroll2948d ago (Edited 2948d ago )

Jaguar is a bottleneck in Scorpio ( and in other consoles too ), like it or not. You should go back to reality.

yeahokwhatever2948d ago

Its no secret. The CPU is the bottleneck in both the Scorpio and PS4(and PS4 Pro). The entire xb1 is a bottleneck.

MegamanXXX2948d ago (Edited 2948d ago )

I'm going to do a wait and see approach with the Scorpio. I wanna see if open world games and other genre's like games like Dues EX will be in 4K 60fps

jasonpugh2947d ago

I like all the folks who already talk about the bottleneck like they helped develop the system. Fact is they don't know how much of a true bottleneck it will be and they're just mad that the PS4 Pro has a break neck CPU.

Aenea2947d ago

There's nothing secret about it, it's a known given only some people can't seem to accept that...

bluefox7552947d ago

"secret CPU bottleneck"
Lol, you're not a PC gamer are you? Bottlenecks aren't imaginary, they're very real. Anyone who has ever put a powerful GPU in a PC with an older, slower CPU will tell you the same thing. Even Digital Foundry said that Scorpio will suffer bottlenecking.

From the article.

"In principal because we really don't know until we get things up and running and see what it can do."

bluefox7552947d ago

It's a racing sim, so if any game will be able to do it, it'll be a racing sim. You're right though, that CPU will absolutely be bottlenecking games. There's no way around it.

XiNatsuDragnel2948d ago

Possible bottleneck? But who knows.

stuna12948d ago

You know you can't say that! When someone say "In principal" they are saying it's a unknown!! And that can in fact be viewed as theoretical or a theory. Also of note is that the heavily modified Jaguar CPU that's reported to be in the Scorpio is only .2 gigaflops stronger than the PS4's Jaguar CPU! So more than likely there is some type of bottleneck present somewhere.

Just showing a still shot of Forza with some numbers at the top supposedly confirming CPU and GPU usage and available overhead is in no way truly representative of Scorpio's capabilities considering Forza has never been hard to showcase 1080/60 fps this gen, it simply not as demanding a game as people make it out to be. Surprisingly notice Microsoft has yet to show any other game from just this gen showcasing what Forza supposedly showcases!? And there a many that can be used! Yet they resort to using last gen games to benchmark Scorpio's capabilities!? No one finds that strange?

candystop2948d ago

Relax...just wait until E3 instead of guessing!

stuna12948d ago

So I guess Richard Leadbetter was guessing when he did the video about the difference in power between Scorpio and PS4 CPU and why there was a potential bottleneck in both consoles.

Bigpappy2948d ago

You are guessing until you show this secret comparison between the pro and Scorpio CPU. Richard Leadbetter never compare the CPU. Said it is highly customized

candystop2948d ago

Not worried about Richard or what he said. The problem is you and simply you. Come E3 and after we will see the light and can finally debate what we really have on our hands.

343_Guilty_Spark2948d ago

In principle = In practice = in theory = should be able too.

freshslicepizza2948d ago (Edited 2948d ago )

@stuna1

It also has a much stronger GPU and 4GB of additional RAM. Turn 10 has already demoed Forza at rock solid 60fps, native 4K and ultra settings while only reaching 65-70% of the overhead of Scorpio's power. Also if you knew ANYTHING about the PC and the overhead used on CPU's when playing games in 4K a lot of that is the GPU, not the CPU.

"Just showing a still shot of Forza with some numbers at the top supposedly confirming CPU and GPU usage and available overhead is in no way truly representative of Scorpio's capabilities considering Forza has never been hard to showcase 1080/60 fps this gen"

Turn 10 has already shown a rock solid engine that nobody yet on consoles have seen to been able to match and that was on the Xbox One. So I guess we should just value your opinion over Digital Foundry who were blown away instead of you who shall we say isn't very positive abbout Scorpio to begin with?

"it simply not as demanding a game as people make it out to be. Surprisingly notice Microsoft has yet to show any other game from just this gen showcasing what Forza supposedly showcases!? Who says they didn't? Maybe they are waiting for E3 to do that and just wanted to give Digital Foundry a taste and also show what can be done in 2 days by one person. They already said there were other things they cannot mention that is still under wraps.

http://wccftech.com/forza-p...

XiNatsuDragnel2947d ago

I can say because I was asking hypothetical question. Something other than Forza would of been a much stronger demostration of Scorpio.

rainslacker2947d ago (Edited 2947d ago )

In principal means that it is possible, but other factors may hinder it. In this case, it appears they're saying they are unsure that if they will achieve that due to these other factors being undecided or currently unknown.

For instance, in principal, cloud compute can improve the lighting within a game scene in real time without stressing the system itself. however, in practice, the speed and latency of the internet make this impractical on a large scale consumer solution.

Basically he's saying that it's possible, yet that possibility is based on currently unknown factors which means that he may or may not run it at 4K/60. He's committing to nothing, nor actually promoting the possibility as being possible in a working solution. It's just possible in theory. This is kind of true with a lot of high end engineering designs.

EddieT2947d ago

The last game was quite CPU bound, requiring at least a 2500k to hit 60. The AMD FX processors couldn't.

bluefox7552947d ago

*definite bottleneck
Hell, the Pro is even bottlenecked. The gap between the CPU and GPU of the Scorpio will be even larger, so the bottleneck will be an even bigger issue for the Scorpio. It's mind boggling to me all of these Xbox fans who don't understand the concept of a bottleneck. It's not made up, imaginary, or even new, it's a real thing. There are thousands of pages on google one can use to verify this.

KingKionic 2948d ago

Great news. I know Xbox gamers out there are pretty estactic about this. Lots of positivity from devs.

Lead da charge to the scorpio.

I had more fun with Project Cars honestly. Assetto Corsa a close second for me.

Playdead co-founder slammed with lawsuit as bitter row with co-founder escalates

Playdead co-founder Dino Patti is allegedly being sued by his former studio and business partner.
Patti was threatened with a lawsuit earlier this year after he posted a now-deleted LinkedIn post that shared an "unauthorized" picture of co-founder Arnt Jensen and discussed some of Limbo's development. Patti said Jensen demanded a little over $73,000 in "suitable compensation and reimbursement," adding that he had "repeatedly" had such letters over the last nine years.

I love this controller. Feels so nice in the hand. Plus the battery lasts for days, it's crazy.

peppeaccardo2d ago

$100 ?????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????? ???????????????

1nsomniac2d ago

Yea the pricing for Nintendo peripherals is a bigger joke than the game prices. What the hell were they thinking!

peppeaccardo1d 20h ago

i mean for a piece of slightly redesigned plastic with the same take of the last few years this has written GREED all over it ! Shame on Nintendo.

OMNlPOTENT1d 15h ago

It's $85. The standard Dualsense is $75. The Dualsense Edge (Playstation Pro controller) is $200. The Xbox Elite (Xbox Pro controller) is also $200. How exactly is $85 so drastically insane compared to those prices?

Neonridr1d 15h ago

the battery lasts like 10 times as long as a dualsense though.

Stevonidas1d 10h ago

Not true; more like 20.

You may commence with your butthurt, ponies.

fsfsxii1d 8h ago

It doesn't have analogue tho, sooo....

Tacoboto1d 8h ago

$85 USD
or $75 at CostCo (same standard price as a DualSense)

Even at $85, you're getting 3-4x the battery life of a DualSense, and it is (by a HUGE margin) the cheapest first-party console controller with Back Paddles.

Vits2d ago

The thing is, over the past decade, third-party controllers have really stepped up. You can often get better quality, more durability, and stronger performance for half the price of first-party options. Meanwhile, controllers from Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft have become increasingly mediocre, expensive, fragile, and not particularly impressive across the board. What makes this especially noticeable with Nintendo is that they’re surprisingly open to third-party hardware. That openness ends up highlighting just how much better the alternatives are.

Vits2d ago

Pretty much most things by half a dozen of chinese manufactures. Like, 8bitdo, Gamesir, Machenike, Gulikit, Flydigi, Manba, EasySMX, etc.

The exception would be really low tier stuff by those companies... those wouldn't be better, they would be about the same quality. But more durable.

Themba762d ago

Best controller I’ve ever used I even like more than my dual sense edge

UltimateOwnage1d 19h ago (Edited 1d 19h ago )

Having used Dual Sense, Pro Controller 1, and 8BitDo Ultimate extensively, I am pretty much in love with Pro Controller 2. The easy reassignment on the grip buttons is such a big plus, but the soft edge joysticks are the best feeling sticks of any controller I’ve ever used. It’s really an awesome controller. The HD Rumble 2 also finally has some thud and the headphone jack is great with a pair of good phones. It’s worth the slight price increase IMO.

Profchaos1d 13h ago

The pro controller 2 for me has the best weight and size it fits the hand perfect like the duelshock 4 did imo

I actually dislike the duelsense controller because of its size but the features are amazing on it.

Still as for the pro 2 no analog triggers is surprisingly something I dont actually miss

PRIMORDUS2d ago

I have the original pro controller and TBH, I don't use it as much. I'm mostly using the Switch in handheld mode with the Hori Split Pad Compact Controller. I also never use the back buttons to program anything so I will not be buying this one here, so that will be $85.00 in my pocket 😂

Very good dev length for a AAA/AA game I'd say. Companies need to set an aim for this range. 1-2 is too little, I believe 3-4 is perfect. Any more is too much. Games don't need to be these gigantic games full of a crazy amount of content. Just make a good game.

Skate-AK2d ago

Lol. Had no idea who that was, but I will admit they do look quite similar.
