Interesting lists. I have only played a couple of these games.

Wasn't there also an X-Files game or two?

I really don't understand how Life is Strange has a Twin Peak likeness

gamer78042894d ago

there is a mystery and some of the characters are awkward, but yah its not completely like twin peaks but some of it reminds me a bit. Its a fantastic game if you haven't played it though, one of my favorites this gen.

how old are you? i am curious, couse i have a feeling that game made mostly for teens 12-16 ? and for people 30+ it might not be that good?
or i am wrong?

well my first gaming system was the coleco and atari 2600, 40 years old :) It does follow young kids, but I always look back with fond memories of my childhood, thats why i like movies like goonies, stranger things, earth to echo, super eight and stuff like that.

I wish it had been more influential within it's own franchise, other than the first game it's been one terrible game after another, at this point it looks like they had a stroke of luck and nothing else. Also, most of what LiS does had already been done on Telltale games about your actions having consequences in the development of the story, the best part was the time manipulation gameplay, that was fantastic, but again it's not too dissimilar of Prince of Persia time manipulation on the original trilogy.

anast81d ago

It was, but walking sims aren't as big now.

porkChop81d ago

Is this a joke? LiS wasn't a bad game but it didn't really do anything that Telltale hadn't already done before it. And to insinuate that without LiS we wouldn't have gotten Disco Elysium, Baldur's Gate 3, etc, is just ridiculous. I get it, you love the game and that's fine, but don't make it out to be more important than it is. I'm not saying it didn't influence anything at all, it just wasn't remotely to the degree the author is insinuating.

No one at Larian played LIS, they're too busy playing DnD and dueling with fake swords in their sparetime

the og ?

maybe for the time when it came out. but not cause of the possible lesbian romance.

Um, what did it influence exactly?

Video Games Proud To Not Be For Everyone

Plenty of games have made a name for themselves as being proud of the fact they’re not to everyone’s taste over the years.

If you make something for everyone, you please no one.

I mean I can do without nintendo games if given the choice. They are not nearly as mature rated as the average.

Yui_Suzumiya82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

Yeah but I use my Switch OLED primarily for anime booba style games (visual novels and JRPG's) and ultra violent FPS's. Far from kid friendly, lol

The problem with that line of though is that games have never been as much "for everyone" as in 2025.
The only thing that's not for everyone in gaming lately is the gatekeeping. Devs will try to appeal to as many people as they can, but if you dare have your own tastes and prefer something a bit more obscure, then you have "L takes" because at the moment, popular opinion equals right opinion.
So devs should simply own the fact they water down their games and go Hollywood to please everybody. Then indies will go back to being trendsetters that are different from AAAs, instead of being roguelike and gacha copycats.

Okay, but "games I'm not meant to love" means I won't play them.
Games are for fun. They're their own art, it's a disservice to reduce them to interactive stories. You can focus on making your audience entertained on a positive way and still stand out.

No game is for everyone. Some games are more mainstream or casual friendly but there is always someone who won’t like it. Same with anything else
