Can Mass Effect: Andromeda Be Saved?

Mass Effect: Andromeda felt like a game that stumbled and fell. BioWare is trying to lift it up, and the early changes seem to suggest this game can be saved.

Yeah its over for Andromeda for what it is today. They need to work all flaws out and to do a soft relaunch plus a hige price cut. All future dlc givem for free would be a good start.

That said it will never be the 10million + sold success EA/Bioware hoped it would be. They'd be lucky if they sell 3million copies.

Artemidorus2954d ago

There's always COD, they been making that deadbeat for the likes of you for years.

Sam Fisher2953d ago

As a person that despises cod, only played the single player of modern Warefare.

I simply will disagree with you. There are far better choices then cod, but if i had to waste my money on either this or cod. Id choose cod at least its not bug ridden to the point of a mess

Artemidorus2953d ago

Then dissappear into the deadbeat series that is COD and don't look back.

SaveFerris2954d ago

The people who purchased the game and enjoyed it or are enjoying it, probably don't think it needs to be saved. For other gamers, they will either wait until patches fix what they feel needs fixing and then buy the game on sale, or when the complete edition is released.

_-EDMIX-_2954d ago

Agreed

I have a lot of people on my friends list that are enjoying that game.

Gaming_Cousin2953d ago

Have they personally told you they are enjoying it?

_-EDMIX-_2953d ago

@Gam- yes,, I've personally private message to some of them and some of those users have streamed the game.

I was curious if I should purchase it or not and a lot of them seem to tell me they were having a pretty good time.

Ultimately decided to not purchase it because of some of the performance issues and that I was already just stocked with other games that were clearly performing better and I would just wait until I'm complete with other titles and the game is in a better state.

Tross2954d ago

Indeed. Great games don't need to be "saved". It is kind of a disappointment when compared to its predecessors, but a slightly subpar Mass Effect game is still better than the best games in some franchises IMHO, though that could just be because I hold Mass Effect in such high regard.

bloop2954d ago

That's why I haven't gotten it yet. ME is one of my favourite franchises and I was really hoping Andromeda would be on par with the original trilogy and don't want to go into it knowing and anticipating all the problems with it. I'm waiting it out until it's properly polished up.

_-EDMIX-_2953d ago

@bloo-same.

I really wanted to get a day one but ultimately had to just cancel my pre-order because I already had so many other games that I was playing in it just made no sense to purchase something that was still being patched.

I'll probably end up playing at later in the summer.

It's just really hard for me to play a game that I know has a series of issues as opposed to something like Persona 5 that has no technical issues whatsoever.

It just made no sense.

Allsystemgamer2953d ago

I feel it was a great game it wouldn't be doing so poorly now would it.

joab7772954d ago (Edited 2954d ago )

This game is amazing! I don't care what people say, as most have not played it or played EA access and didn't even get into it at all. It's huge and the story is good. You actually feel like an explorer that actually alters the galaxy you have arrived in.

I wish I could control characters more and some human faces could be better but overall it's damn good.

JeffGUNZ2953d ago

I agree Joab777. I am 54 hours in and only 40% completion. So much to do and exploring the galaxy is great. You hit the nail right on the head when you said you feel like you're an explorer and changing the galaxy. Humankind is leaving its footprint in Andromeda. Some minor animation issues here and there but this game is great. It's feels like a ME game but with a whole new purpose and character set, well pulled off to keep ME fans with that passion. I see a lot of hate for this game on this site for such minor issues.

Allsystemgamer2953d ago

So what you're saying is someone has to play for more than 10 hours to get into something?

Sorry but that's called being an apologist. I played my 10 hours and t was all bugs, bad voice acting, terrible script, average story, boring characters and decent combat.

In no way shape or form is this game worth $90 (canada).

It released a broken mess and the entire game is uninspired and lacks key features from the previous trilogy.

SCW19822954d ago (Edited 2954d ago )

You can't change an uninspired mess with horrible dialogue and horrible quest design. So sad that people try to defend this game, how the mighty have fallen.

_-EDMIX-_2954d ago

Defend? Is there a reason why somebody needs to fight you to convince you that they like something that is of a subjective nature? Lol

You're free to not like Mass Effect to just as much as someone is free to like it. All the things you stated are of your own opinion.... So let me guess? I was supposed to spend my hard-earned money based on what you like? 😂😂😂 28514;

Relax bud, not that serious. Worry about you, like what you like.

Games are not objective , they are subjective, they're based on personal opinions of what people like.

Segata2954d ago

No it's just a fact this game is poorly written and acted. That is not subjective at all. You may as well say Battlefield Earth is subjective to being garbage.

SCW19822953d ago

Can I ask what the hell are you talking about?

_-EDMIX-_2953d ago

@seg- "No it's just a fact this game is poorly written and acted. That is not subjective at all. "

😂😂😂&# 128514;

Comment of the year, I seriously need somewhere to frame this.

do you honestly not know what subjective means?

I don't care that you guys disagree with me that's completely Fair everyone could have their own opinions, but to be upset that somebody likes this game just seems nonsensical, I don't even understand the point , are you guys at this desperate to bend your will to everyone on this site?

😂😂😂

What are you guys going to have a nervous breakdown because someone likes something that you don't?

@sc-anyone is free to not like this game that is completely Fair it is their opinion in their View but people seriously need to stop attacking other consumers on making their decision to purchase this game if you don't like it that's completely fine but stop attacking people for having a different view than you it's extremely immature if you don't like BioWare that's fine if you don't like Electronic Arts by all means help yourself but stop attacking consumers for sharing different opinions.

I mean have you considered that no one's actually bothering you for attacking the game itself? The problem I have is the outright start abusing an attacking other users on this site for their choice to enjoy the game.

This is where I believe things get extremely disrespectful and uncalled for as it seems many users on here don't really fully understand but you can have an opinion without trying to force it upon other users.

I mean for god sakes even I chose to not purchase Mass Effect Andromeda because of its numerous performance issues but you've yet to see me attack other users for choosing to purchase it that's their choice and their opinion if they want play that game in its current state you're not going to find me attacking them.

Smh.

I mean do you go on your friends list and start messaging every last one of your friends that purchases Mass Effect an extremely long lecture on why they're going to game or hell for purchasing the game? So everyone must share your view or be damned?

Ohhh man, you live in a pretty small world buddy.

lots of games that I don't like or that I don't share the opinion of many users with what you're not going to catch me attacking and demonizing users for their choice to like something.

Allsystemgamer2953d ago

You can OBJECTIVELY say writing is bad EDMIX. Easily.

You're apologist ways are going to tank franchises.

The game is MISSING key features previous games had. It's story is bland and predictable with a villains whose motivations are just the same as any other mass villain. The animations were shoddy and the character models scared the hell out of people.

You can't just keep throwing the "it's subjective" card because the game has OBJECTIVELY BAD writing, acting, glitching etc.

Unless somehow you're dumb enough to think having bad glitches and bugs is somehow subjective.

DragonKnight2953d ago

"Is there a reason why somebody needs to fight you to convince you that they like something that is of a subjective nature?"

This is why you need to STFU EDMIX because you never even know the basics of any topic you discuss.

No one is saying a person has to defend liking something, what is being said is you can't defend the problems of the game itself but people are trying. There are objective flaws with the game that are being given passes on subjective "enjoyment" grounds.

If you enjoy a bad game, good for you. Doesn't mean that your subjective enjoyment makes an objectively good game.

OB1Biker2953d ago (Edited 2953d ago )

Maybe I can help explaining?
It's not new sometimes people don't like a game while other like it, or people hate a game while others love it. It's a passive state and people just express themselves as they r entitled to. Nobody 'attacks' or 'defends' a game

Seafort2953d ago

Have you actually played the game from beginning to end like I and many others have?

If not your opinion means fk all to me.

It's a damn good game. Whether you believe that or not that's on you. I just can't be bothered to explain why ME:A is a good game to people that formed their opinion from reading reddit or neogaf, behave like sheep and who have maybe played 2-3 hrs of the EA Access and think they know everything about the game.

It's obvious you know very little about the game as you spout the same crap other people that hate the game for no reason do.

Your loss in the end.

Allsystemgamer2953d ago

Lol please explain how it's good and counter then. Because from what I've played it was boring, poorly written, poorly acted, scary looking models with decent combat (that played EXACTLY like halo 5).

As for you're whole "gotta play it from start to finish" argument, it's stupid. You should know within the first hour otherwise you're wasting your time. No one wants to slag through bad stuff just to find one tiny little nugget.

TheColbertinator2954d ago

Too late now. Another Mass Effect from Bioware Edmonton is the only hope the series has anymore.

Goldby2953d ago

they are working on KOTOR

TheColbertinator2953d ago

And a new IP. So they might not return to Mass Effect in a long time

showtimefolks2954d ago

Side quests and story can't be fixed but they can fix other issues

Jon615862954d ago

Honestly I don't think anything is wrong with the story no more than your typical coming of age I'm the hero type spiel that we have in pretty much all RpGs nowadays. I mean Horizon Zero Dawn all though fun and inspiring doesn't really do anything differently.

Segata2954d ago

It's a even dumber version of Dragon Age Inquisition but in space.

Allsystemgamer2953d ago

It's another typical space hitler story. It's a tired trope. The story is predictable and boring ESPECIALLY when you compare it to its predecessors.

That's basically saying "halo 5 had a good story that terminator and countless others have done". It's not like we've been there done that or anything.

InMyOpinion2954d ago

What's wrong with the side quests? I think they're very enjoyable. And the story and voice acting it good too. Animations suck but the rest of the game is awesome imo. Highly underrated.

OB1Biker2954d ago

Agreed. I'm missing not running around to pick up the ingredients I need to make the potion I need to do something I can't remember or to find a frying pan for someone though. Umm no seriously I feel the quests I ve done so far make sense if you like the setting.

JeffGUNZ2953d ago

The sidequests and priority missions are awesome. People just spew nonsense on this site to fit their agenda. This game has improved on SO many things since the original trilogy yet everyone wants to throw a fit of subpar animations. Unreal lol.

InMyOpinion2953d ago

JeffGUNZ - Couldn't agree more. I bought it solely for the MP since I loved it in ME3 and expected the campaign to be really bad. It was the opposite. Exploring Eos was magical and the boss fight with the sandworm is epic. Only about 15-20 hours in but so far I can't believe how some critics gave this game a 7/10.

showtimefolks2953d ago

Inmyopinion

Did u enjoy the side quests I'm dragon age inquisition? Because the main story in that game was really good but the game required so many fetch quests to open main quests

I feel like bioware did the same with mass effect Andromeda. They do t need to fill the screen with icons to say it has these many quests just give us quality

So many of mass effect Andromeda side quests make u run around the game universe collection 3 of this or 5 of that and on top of that some f them require you to go press one button and come back

It's not hating these are facts about side quests which are in the game

And that's coming from someone who loves mass effect series I'm general but I am being objective

InMyOpinion2953d ago

@showtimefolks - I didn't but I played The Witcher 3, which imo has the best side quests of any game this gen and maybe ever.

ME Andromeda is not on that level but I feel it's unfair to say that the side quests are crap. I've found that the best way to do them is to gather as many as you can then do them when the story takes you to that destination, or do a couple when you need a break from the main story.

Some are very simple while others have rich backstorys and force you to think. I can live with that for a game of this size.

showtimefolks2952d ago

Inmyopinion

Thank I will make sure to tackle them the way u said instead of going out of my way to do them

For All Its Flaws, Mass Effect: Andromeda's Approach to Romance is Something ME4 Can Learn From

While Mass Effect: Andromeda was let in several key areas, one of its approaches to romances is something Mass Effect 4 should consider revisiting.

I hope Mass Effect 4 ignores the inferior prequels and instead closely follows the far superior Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition.

anast113d ago (Edited 113d ago )

Mass Effect 4 should just make Mass Effect 1 but better with current tech. Fans would be happy. As far as romance, they should take notes from the Witcher and Cyberpunk.

Ristul112d ago

Later Bioware games have to little build up. You can have a normal conversation and all of a sudden BAM! The character you talk to becomes super flirty.

TricksterArrow112d ago

Reminds me of Baldur’s Gate. I wanted to practice some magic and Gale made it super weird. Not even gonna mention Astarion.

gold_drake112d ago (Edited 112d ago )

iii dunno about that.

the only really great and funny dating partner, is that outlaw guy anyways haha he was funny as hell.

other than that, i found every character to be very annoying.

Shout out to Keri the Asari reporter. Current relationship status be damned as she's game either way. Anything for a good story. 🤣

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast154d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine154d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast154d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman154d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast154d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

BioWare Thinks Mass Effect Andromeda Was Better Game Than Reception Suggested

I played it and it wasn't as bad as people said. Is it in the 8-10 range? No.

It's a 6-7, which means it's a solid game.

LordoftheCritics189d ago (Edited 189d ago )

Veilguard and Andromeda are of similar level to me.
6 to 6.5 ish

Though I think i enjoyed Andromeda's combat and sense of scale a little bit more.

XBManiac188d ago

Veilguard has better graphics.

neutralgamer1992189d ago

I agree with you It was a 6.5 type game. Gameplay was solid everything else was lacking. Playing at launch with all the issues was just absurd. EA could have let the developers keep patching and fix the game but they stopped just like they did with anthem. It’s crazy to think multi billion dollar publishers can’t afford to keeping patching their games get medium size developers can support the game for years

But when you have android wilson running the company what else can we expect.

OtterX189d ago

Except 6-7 doesn't translate as solid. 6 means a bit flimsy, but still good/enjoyable if you can look past the flaws. 7, a little less flimsy, and enjoyable. 8-10 would be "solid".

But I get your point. I skipped the game entirely, so I don't have an opinion on it.

H9189d ago

I played this game back when I wanted to give every game I bought a fair chance and finish it, it was the reason why I stopped doing so, god the game was bad

TheNamelessOne189d ago

I actually enjoyed Andromeda. It wasn't a 10/10, by any means, but I played it years after the fact, after a lot of patching, and I had a good time with it.

anast189d ago

Same, I enjoyed it too. I might even replay it soon.

TheNamelessOne189d ago

Might do the same, honestly. Went through the trilogy a couple months back.

raWfodog189d ago

I liked it as well, and also played it for the first time over a year after it was released. The original trilogy was a better story overall IMO but I still enjoyed Andromeda.

lellkay189d ago

The game is so unbelivably bad, it's laughable.

pwnmaster3000189d ago (Edited 189d ago )

It really wasn’t. Well for me nd I’m a big fan of the series.
Was it mass effect standard? No
But overall I thought it was a decent game.
6-7/10.

Armaggedon189d ago

You might want to try playing a truly bad game. Go boot up two worlds or gollum to get the perspective you need

MatrixxGT189d ago

Wow, two worlds…red ringed my 360.

Armaggedon189d ago

Lol. Its one of the only games that I have experienced buyers remorse with. The only one I can think of is riders Republic.

matt139189d ago

So delusional, the title was an embarrassment to the original trilogy. it’s the equivalent of 2042 to the battlefield franchise.

thorstein189d ago

2042 had a redemption arc and what exists now is a pretty good FPS.
