Horizon Zero Dawn Rewards Platinum Trophy Achievement With Exclusive PS4 Theme

In all honesty, it makes a lot of sense, to have these things for trophies. The best thing you can do in gaming is give people "something" for when they achieve something. Imagine if all side quests, errands and jobs gave the player something worth while? I think people would stop complaining about fetch side quests and etc. Imagine doing some boring fetch quest but in return you get a pretty cool Modification for your weapon or a new weapon in general? People complain about things because they feel for what they did wasn't returned back to an equal measure.

I've been wanting this for a long time certain trophy accomplishments in games actually reward you with perks other than just the cup. Something in-game that helps boost your abilities.

Uncharted 2 did it the best IMO. They gave you an exclusive skin to use in MP. Was totally worth it.

Correction they did this with Bloodborne only in EU. I have a plat and in NA we got Nada.

This is false. There's reports of US players getting the theme. The thing is, there's no set time frame as to when you'll actually receive any Platinum theme. It can be days or months.

Be sure to check your spam folder. You might also want to allow your account to receive marketing materials from Sony. There's an option for that somewhere in Account Settings. I'm not sure if it actually matters, but better safe than sorry.

Nah, I honestly don't care that much to be PC on a gaming website. I ain't here to hold peoples hands. If they can't figure out what I mean.. and go looking for micro transactions then come back and say "Where do you buy them? I couldn't find them on the store" Then that's really their own issue. Luckily the data points don't count for a trophy so it's only the vantages, metal flowers, banuk statues and ancient vessels that you need to find and you can buy maps the tell you where they are.

SEE. That is my number one argument against certain trophies. There is NO SKILL INVOLVED. I believe that trophies should be about skill and challenge. Running around grabbing flags or some shit is boring and a monkey could do it. There is no skill in looking at a video of someone else's hard work in finding the damned things.

I am not a trophies person. But I love the idea of them. When I try to get certain Platinum's because I like the game, I stop, when it coming to doing mindless crap.

I see your angle... its like you'll get a trophy for finishing level 1 but that's why they're gold silver and bronze to indicate its level of achievability...getting platinums isn't easy for most games. Some require more skill than others but thats also shown by their rarity. Go after the really rare ones if you need a challenge...obviously you'll have to like the game to want to tackle it.

Seems Horizon is one of the easiest plats to get... Nothing too weird or uncanny

Try out the Bloodborne plat trophy. I loved getting that one, mostly because the road to getting it is based on pushing the player through all bosses, all weapons and full upgrade. It really becomes a pursuit to discover the whole game more so than just collecting stuff :)

So, I see two different kinds of approaches to platinums:

-Those that just require you to explore all of the game
-Those that reward high skill level

Examples for the first one are like Bloodborne and HZD, for the second its more like Shovel knight (speedruns, no hit runs etc).

I guess it depends on what you like, personally I like the first one more, since the second ones are generally not less tedious (since it basically has you attempting the same stuff over and over for hours). I usually play mainstream games on the hardest difficulty anyway, so for me that is enough of a skill-based reward. But I can see your point.

Edit: You obviously also have the crappy trophies like "grind easy shit for 20 hours" like final fantasy X that required you to completely fill the sphere grid for all characters, even after you finish all superbosses.

a man avoids multiplayer trophies and never gets the platinum in a game with those. These collectibles require some fun climbing sequences so there's some skill involved plus getting past the machines to get there.

Trophies exist to note achievement, not necessarily skill. The same holds true for achievements, obviously, but it seems really awkward to say trophies and achievements exist to note achievement. Anyway, while finding collectibles and things isn't typically hard, it is an achievement.

Furthermore, a lot of the "difficult" ones are undermined by things that are equally brainless. Many modes/fights have tricks that make them quite easy and it's fairly uncommon for a hard task to require extreme amounts of skill.

Ironically, the rarest trophy is usually the longest/most tedious one, not the hardest. This can be seen with Horizon Zero Dawn and countless other games. Like, I would say Blazing Suns at all Grounds is probably the most skill based trophy in Horizon Zero Dawn. This trophy has a 9 percent obtain rate, which is higher than finding all the vantage points, metal flowers, bank figures and ancient vessels. In fact, you know what the rarest trophy is besides the platinum? Destroying every grazer dummy, which is probably the easiest tasks in the game. It's just a pain in the ass to find some of them without a guide and there is no in-game map to save you the hassle of looking online.

That's a really cool idea, i think stuff like this goes a long way in building a loyal fan base. And stuff like skins and missions that unlock from ingame actions rather than having them as micro transactions.

This was long overdue. Trophy acquisition should've been rewarded a long time ago, at about the same time as trophies were introduced. We should either automatically unlock a wallpaper, exclusive static themes at first (like for a certain number of bronze trophies), an exclusive dynamic theme later (for a certain number of silver trophies), avatars, the OST of the game, and even a voucher code at the end to use to buy whatever we want in the Store; or actually have a Store separated from the real PS Store (or just an "aisle" in the real Store dedicated to that) to unlock extra content based on our trophy collection, i.e. for free.
This is a nice move, but far too limited: to this game only, and there should be more content to unlock than just one theme.
