I don't think Team Ninja expected this game to be as popular as it is. They didn't ship nearly enough to meet demand. My friend got lucky and picked up an unclaimed pre order copy at launch

game4funz2609d ago

That doesn't make sense. I see nioh copies everywhere and of course there's digital. Supply is no longer an issue with games.

Majin-vegeta2609d ago

This is "FIRST WEEK RETAIL SALES"
When supply was constrained

Paytaa2609d ago (Edited 2609d ago )

Took me Amazon (sold out), 4 Gamestops (sold out), Best Buy (sold out) and then Target saved the day with 1 copy left out back. That was week 2 of being at retail.

Best game this year by a country mile in my opinion. Went in blind practically and have over 80hrs clocked in. Not since Bloodborne and The Witcher 3 have I felt this way about a single player game this generation.

Liqu1d2608d ago

Because everyone is able to go digital right? Besides some prefer physical because it's cheaper and they have the ability to trade it in.

AntiZeal0t2609d ago

Unclaimed pre-order is how I got mine as well. No one else within 30 miles of me had it, and this was about 2 weeks ago.

CP_Company2609d ago

they had no plans to sell this game outside of japan.this happened because of Sony, they risked with this game and it paid off, game is simple amazing.

Paytaa2609d ago

Is that true? Sounds a lot like the situation with Sony getting Demon's Souls localized in the US all those years ago. If so, bravo Sony and thank you because Nioh is a masterpiece.

YEP4142609d ago

You can find this game anywhere

MRMagoo1232609d ago

sure ya can buddy 🖒 if we are gonna be a douche about it , "You can find this game anywhere" I checked my kitchen draw and my bedroom cupboard and I can't find a copy in there so that's already a false statement.

We all know that this game sold over a million in under 2 weeks. Excellent effort.
I played the absolute shit out of this game. Over 100 hours.
Badly wanted to continue the NewGame+... but I had to stop because... HorizonZeroDawn. Then back to Yakuza Zero, then to Nier, then back to Nioh, Gravity Rush 2 I really want to finish. Then to Persona 5, then Far Point PSVR, then...... please help me. Please, I beg of you. Give me another TV, another head and another set of arms.

ninsigma2609d ago

Just a thought, maybe you should finish what you have before buying more :p
Don't worry though I've done that so many times and it seems to be a pervasive attribute associated with gamers xD
This is the first year I've actually shown some restrain and horizon is actually my first 2017 game and zelda my 2nd. I missed a fair few games but now that were past the launch hype (which is always tough to not cave in for) I can happily wait for sales later on. Me and my wallet have a much better relationship now :p

Muzikguy2609d ago

And another PS4! Longer days would definitely help. You're definitely not alone in all that. I've got 5 games I haven't touched yet because games keep coming out that I want. Just bought Horizon ZD which I plan on playing this weekend. Good thing is I don't have the money to buy Nier, Nioh, Persona 5 or pretty much any game coming out during this year. I've got a long list of games that by the time this generation is over, it'll be the most games I've ever had for any system. Definitely a nice problem to have!

MasterCornholio2609d ago

I'm really having a hard time choosing between NiOh and HZD.

SirBradders2609d ago

Platinumed hzd in 41 hours which I finished today, already had the plan for nioh now I'm back on it with a biddy clearing ng+

Both stellar games imo.

G20WLY2609d ago

You're playing it again with an old person?! 😉

DarXyde2609d ago

I'm having more fun with Horizon, but Ni Oh is not at all a miss.

MasterCornholio2609d ago

Dang it.

I meant which one should I get first?

It's not like I'm going to play both at once.

UCForce2609d ago

I think you play should play HZD first then Nioh. Just enjoy yourself. You don't need to rush. Trust me, my friend.

MRMagoo1232609d ago

horizon definelty horizon , but both is the ultimate goal. Horizon is the most fun I've had in a game for about 10 years.

Chevalier2608d ago

Another vote for Horizon first then Nioh. I ended up getting both, but, started Horizon and it's fantastic. Was in the Nioh beta so I will jump back at some point.

Liqu1d2608d ago

Horizon first then. Nioh should be cheaper and some DLC should be out by the time you get it.

King_Lothric2609d ago

I bought Nioh, HZD and Nier. Amazing exclusive games.

MRMagoo1232609d ago

well technically nier isn't exclusive because it's on pc too but I get what you mean and it seems the ps4 line up of amazing games just keeps coming

jznrpg2609d ago

Cant go wrong , get both eventually , and dont forget Nier and Persona 5

MasterCornholio2609d ago

I'll never forget about Persona 5. Persona 4 Golden is my favorite game on Vita. There's no way that I'll miss out on that game.

DarXyde2608d ago

Definitely.

This year has been incredibly sweet for me and I love Sony because of it. If it isn't obvious, I bloody love Persona. My two favorite Vita games (and favorite games in the last many years) got sequels this year: Persona 5 and Gravity Rush 2. Definitely, Persona 5 is a super priority.

The Nioh franchise has sold over 6 million copies worldwide

Team Ninja: "The Nioh franchise has sold over 6 million copies worldwide now!"

FallenAngel1984965d ago

At 6 million NiOh is on the cusp of nearly outselling Ninja Gaiden’s 6.8 million with just only 2 titles under its belt

This could mean Team Ninja may see no reason to return to producing new NG games

CaptainHenry916964d ago

But what if a new Ninja Gaiden sells well?

FallenAngel1984964d ago (Edited 964d ago )

The latest Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection had sold 240,000 units worldwide at last count

Unfortunately that may not be as high enough a number to convince Team Ninja to also commit to continuing Ninja Gaiden alongside Dead or Alive and NiOh.

And when they aren’t working on those they’re focused on licensed properties like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin.

I wish I were wrong but that may be how Tecmo Koei sees it. Hopefully they prove me wrong and produce Ninja Gaiden 4 at some point

Yi-Long964d ago

To be fair, does anyone still trust Team Ninja with Ninja Gaiden*?

Let’s be honest here, it was Itagaki who created Ninja Gaiden greatness, with NG1, NG Black (improved version of NG1), and Ninja Gaiden 2.

The Sigma versions of 1 & 2, done without Itagaki, while decent/good, never lived up to the originals, and NG3 was a mess.

And they half-assed the collection, so many huge fans of the series never bothered picking that up.

I’d be excited if Itagaki would announce a return to the action ninja genre. If Team Ninja would announce a NG4, I’d be skeptical.

To be fair, Team Ninja DID show they’re still capable of releasing greatness with the Nioh games, but with Ninja Gaiden, without Itagaki, they have never been able to reach the quality of NG Black again.

(* … does anyone still trust them with the DOA games, for that matter … !? )

deadfrag964d ago (Edited 964d ago )

Things are not seen from that stand point.Ninja Gaiden Never had a game produced for PS4 or Xbox One from the ground up.Nioh sold 6 milion because exposure and Marketing are way bigger this days than they were on PS3 and Xbox 360 generation. The Ninja Gaiden collection was never going to sell much since theres nothing new on them, this collection is actually worse to what was already available on Xbox 360 and can be play by BC on any Xbox One console.Ninja Gaiden needs a new game that shows new stuff and that gets backed in the marketing like Nioh. This collection games have already been played by anyone that likes Ninja Gaiden years ago it didnt bring nothing new to the table it was obvious that it would not sell very well.

ocelot07964d ago

That's great and it's now free on the epic game store.

FinalFantasyFanatic964d ago

I just picked it up a couple of hours ago, it was a nice surprise to see it there.

jznrpg964d ago

Well made games glad they did well .

Brazz964d ago

they deserve this, Nioh is a amazing game. Hopefully they will expand and make a more ambitious game and have even more sales.

northpaws1095d ago

Talking about Goku, I used to like him a lot, but he just became a selfish jerk that only want to fight and left his family behind to rot lol, at least we see Vegeta spent some time with family here and there lol

Teflon021094d ago

Goku's far from selfish. He's just an idiot with an addition.
Also Dragon Ball Z starts with Piccolo basically being Gohan's dad. Not sure how these things became a realization in 2021 lmao

Germaximus1095d ago

PS Now additions have been rocking for quite awhile now.

iwin861095d ago

Street Of Rage 4 is awesome. Big recommendation.

RosweeSon1094d ago

Just bought physical 😏🤷🏻‍♂️ 🤣 does look great tho.

1095d ago
LucasRuinedChildhood1095d ago

Nioh was given out on PS Plus around a year ago (most people who have PS Now also have PS Plus) and Jump Force is not particularly good. There's a big gap in quality between PS Plus and PS Now.

Teflon021094d ago

Streets of Rage is a fantastic game. Didn't know about Nioh though. I don't think I have it. Though I'd rather play the ps5 version in the future

Petebloodyonion1094d ago

Streets of Rage 4 is a must-play title if you like beat em up.
Also, not everyone has PS+ so Nioh is still a good game.

I'm so happy to hear that because that means they will continue developing amazing games like that.

Nioh is such a great game. I love the series.
