It'd be really pathetic if this were the case

ARESWARLORD3026d ago

I don't know how pathetic it would be you have to remember that you're taking this thing with you as a portable and there's never been a game like Skyrim that you could take with you portable I love my PS Vita but I don't have Skyrim on it

Nitrowolf23026d ago (Edited 3026d ago )

It may say something going forward for Bethesda. Their games are only getting a lot more demanding so itll be interesting to see if they support the switch going forward, especially since theyve talked about power when it came to running their games previous gen with the wii u, which it lacked.

If it cant run the remaster version that says a lot, and if that is the case I really dont see bethesda supporting the system much. I know skyrim is huge, but i do wonder why not fallout 4 port.

It is still a great feat. IMO to get this run though on a device thats mostly portable

yeahokwhatever3026d ago

You can play MUCH better looking games on the shield. Witcher 3 comes to mind..

BVFTW3025d ago

Skyrim was already portable, every tablet or laptop capable of running the game makes it portable, heres a $300 one year old tablet running the game at 720p at 40+ fps:

Technically what you're talking about it's a moot point because inevitably there would be a handheld with that would be able to do that.

Did the Gameboy Advance not have The link to the past remake? Did the DS not have Mario 64? Did the PSP not have Metal Gear Solid 1 Resident Evil 2 along with numerous PlayStation 1 games along with a God of War Kingdom Hearts, Persona 3 and even GTA games?

So why is that shocking a handheld has Skyrim?

This is actually not a surprise ,this is not impossible , this is technically an inevitability.

Are you seriously going at look at me with a straight face and tell me if a portable released in 10 years it wouldn't be able to play Playstation 4 games?

What you need to remember is that the 3DS even supported the Resident Evil 5 Engine with Revelations.....

So technically what you're talking about it's simply a technical inevitability.

So yes this could play Skyrim just like the PSP could play all the PlayStation 1 games that are on the PlayStation Network.

So is it not just as shocking that in 2004 a handheld have the capability of playing games that released on another platform in 2000? ie Final Fantasy 9

All you actually have to do is look at your history to realize that most handhelds are more powerful than the consoles that released previously.

I agree but you don't have Skyrim on the PlayStation Vita but who is to say that you wanted have it on the next PlayStation Portable? You're technically arguing based on the timeline of specific technical releases you're not really arguing about the concept of something releasing that otherwise never would.

If the next PSP that releases is near the Strait of the PlayStation 4 you might see something like Fallout 4 or even Elder Scrolls 6 on the portable.

that would be no different than saying you don't see anything like Fallout 4 on the Nintendo switch.

LMFAO well no kidding it's releasing later on a more powerful Hardware or is this news to You? Are you seriously telling me this concept is brand new and you have no clue that this is happened before?

Yi-Long3025d ago

Yeah, it's portable, and that's once again the excuse given to be underpowered compared to the competition, when many gamers actually really just wanted Nintendo to release a powerful home-console this generation, so you wouldn't have the exact same problems with 3rd party support we've been seeing with the Nintendo consoles for many many generations now...

Maybe Bethesda should have done a gorgeous cell-shaded version of Skyrim instead, which would have meant they actually put some effort in, would be less heavy to run, and brought something really special and original to Switch, instead of a straight and underwhelming port of a 5 year old game, which pales in comparison to the remasters that were released last fall for XBO and PS4.

Then again, almost every gamer already has Skyrim, so to put that kind of effort into a Switch-release probably wouldn't have worked, unless they would have gone all the way with it.

TheOptimist3025d ago

The thing is, any laptop from the past 2-3 years can run the game, and much better as well. So what's the point of portability?

IamTylerDurden13025d ago

AC3 Liberation was an open world AC game in the early days of the Vita. BL2 was ported to Vita. To be completely fair though, Vita is nearly 6 years old and the Switch is BRAND NEW. However, games like Killzone Mercenary and Uncharted GA were extremely demanding and very impressive for a portable. Even Sly Cooper TiT was a full console game on Vita.

psuedo3025d ago

But you dont need to play Skyrim on the go.

andrewsquall3025d ago

@ARESWARLORD I can play Skyrim Special Edition on Remote Play on my Vita ^_^

Funny how people's tunes have changed regarding Switch since its awkward reveal before Xmas, with statements like "of course its the Special Edition of Skyrim shown here, its clearly more powerful than an Xbone, maybe even a PS4".

mikeslemonade3025d ago

Vanilla Skyrim is a last gen game and doesn't look good. You're fairminded if you think otherwise.

QUIMICOMORTAL3022d ago

Except your Vita is a herdawre from 6 year ago!

I'd take a portable version or the PC version.

BVFTW3025d ago

If you have the PC version, you just need something portable capable enough to run the game. there was no need to pay twice just to take the game with you.

ninsigma3025d ago

You'd take anything with the Nintendo brand on it.

TheDivine3025d ago

Just buy a GPD WIN and take all your Steam games with you. Or maybe a laptop. I paid under 600 for my laptop with a 1050 that can run any game I want. I do still prefer the WIN since its a handheld that's 3ds sized but both work. Playing Dark Souls 2 and New Vegas anywhere is flipping amazing. Best handheld ever hands down.

Vegamyster3025d ago

It doesn't come out til the fall, it's probably just place holder information. If it isn't then that's pretty dumb, the remaster is not demanding and should easily be able to 720p 30 fps at the very least.

BVFTW3025d ago

I believe it will be a bespoke version of skyrim, first and foremost is the ram issue, the remastered version had a change in the renderer, it supports volumetric light and god rays, improved textures, lod, depth of field and mod support for consoles, not all of this is going to come intact, Zelda runs at 30 fps with drops at 900p while docked, it cannot pull all the special edition features, most of them, yes, but not all of them.

_-EDMIX-_3025d ago

I agree the reality is this wouldn't even be seen as pathetic if Nintendo wasn't trying to Market and masquerade this as a regular Home console equivalent to the Xbox one and PlayStation 4.

Nintendo is a reason why people are seeing the glass half empty.

Perception.

I said this month's ago and got completely blasted for it the keynote never said ultimate edition just skyrim

Broomfondle3025d ago

Won't be buying it if this is the case.

BVFTW3025d ago

That's shame, if you don't have a way to play the PC version on the go but you're planning on having a switch, why give it the cold shoulder because it's not the last console remaster?

Broomfondle3025d ago

I never played the original. If I'm going to play it I would like the most recent version.

BVFTW3025d ago

The remastered version doesn't have aditional content, its only a remaster, not a remake, this means it just have nicer graphics and it isn't a night to day change if you compare it to the PC version, the graphical upgrade was more significant if you came from the console version and the real deal was that the console version was now moddable to some extend. If switch version is vanilla Skyrim it's the same game as the remaster. In reality, it will be an optimized version for the switch so technically it would be "the most recent version", that isn't what you're looking for? If you mean that you want "the best version of Skyrim" then buy the PC version.

ocelot073025d ago

@BVFTW I think you should check your facts before you type. The special edition that was recently released on PS4/Xbox One and PC not only includes better graphics ect but comes with all the DLC released for it.

BVFTW3025d ago (Edited 3025d ago )

I already know ocelot07, I thought that was obvious as the legendary edition was released 3 years before the special edition . My point was that it didn't have any "new content" for the special edition, should've been more specific, didn't think that I needed to point that out, I'll keep that in mind for the next time. Maybe I should also point out that the sound was downgraded and that the PS4 version modding feature is gimped, right?

*I never played the original. If I'm going to play it I would like the most recent version.

Don't blame Bethesda cuz Ninty wanted to go cheap on the hardware.

3025d ago
Ninte3025d ago

Why should it surprised any one. It's Nintendo.

superchiller3025d ago

But it's Nintendo's hardware, which was his point. You can't make cutting edge games on mediocre home console hardware.

ChickeyCantor3025d ago

@SuperChiller

It's Bathesda that put it on the console. They could have chosen not to.
Besides what features are missing?

MRMagoo1233024d ago

@steven

what's Zeldas meta critic score have to do with cutting edge ? high score doesn't mean cutting edge.

MS could compress their games on disc

raWfodog30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

Skyrim is still my favorite ES game. I’m playing through it again right now since I never finished it.

jznrpg20d ago

Morrowind is by far my favorite. But I’m getting old and played Daggerfall Morrowind and Oblivion before Skyrim

ActualWhiteMan29d ago

Yeah totally. Definitely won’t be hacking it Nintendo 🤞🏻

Fallout and Skyrim show us that talented developers make great games when you leave them alone

That judicious lack of oversight permeated everything in Bethesda's RPGs, in a positive fashion.

Christopher59d ago

I much prefer a left alone Obsidian and Larian Studios. Bethesda's formula has grown old for me.

anast57d ago

Larian hit another level with DOS:2 and then took it even further with BG3. They do high quality work.

jznrpg58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

Skyrim was a letdown compared to previous games and so was Fallout 4

Kosic57d ago

I agree, I found it an interesting game. But nowhere near worth the hype (unless you include mods)

dmonee58d ago

Skyrim blew my mind when it released. That game took me to the gaming, promisedland. Going back to it when it was updated for the PS5, it felt slightly rough around the edges, but great for its time

TheColbertinator57d ago

We should leave Obsidian alone. Bethesda on the other hand should be kept under constant psychiatric observation.

anast57d ago

Skyrim feels like the game was made in a hurry with a disorganized team.
