Six musicians make up Select Start, a videogame arrangement band. The group, based in Gainesville, Florida, performs classic game themes in the style of chamber music for two violins, a cello, guitar, piano, and flute. Elaine, Austin, David, John, Tine and Kiki met up in September of 2002, and since then their repertoire has grown to well over sixty songs, which they have brought to assorted venues -- from libraries, to bars, to anime and video game conventions. In January of this year, they performed Frog's Theme from Chrono Trigger as guest musicians at the Video Games Live concert in Orlando, Florida.
Recently, Select Start provided two renditions of tracks from Nobuo Uematsu's score to Final Fantasy VI for the music compilation entitled Welcome to World 2. The album marks the second anniversary of the site Game Music 4 All, a source of news and information regarding game cover bands, chiptune and nerdcore music from around the world. To learn more about the group and their songs, Forever Fantasy had the chance to hear from Select Start on their favorites from Final Fantasy and the experience of interpreting these memorable pieces through their own unique style.
