Double Dragon IV clings to its retro inspirations just a little too tightly. Fans of the old 8-bit titles will likely enjoy their romp here for what it is, but Arc System Works could have taken some more chances and delivered a brawler that had more to offer. Instead we get a fighting game that is simply average, despite my deep nostalgia for the series.
"It's not often that a game receives online multiplayer years after release, but it does happen. Case in point: Double Dragon IV from Arc System Works. The retro-style beat 'em up came to all major platforms, one system at a time, but initially without an online mode. A few years later, though, the game was updated to add 2-player online co-op! That's quite an addition for a small-scale $7 game, so we had to try it out and share our impressions," says Co-Optimus.
Limited Run Games is preparing physical editions for both Double Dragon Neon and Double Dragon IV for the Switch that include standard and Classic Limited Editions. Pre-orders go live on May 28th, 2021.
The original Double Dragon from the Arcades about 30 odd years ago was amazing at the time, i played Double Dragon Neon not long ago and it had totally lost all of its appeal, its either Double Dragon isnt that good anymore or Neon is a crap representative of the original..
Phil writes, "Sometimes you're waiting years for a video game sequel only for it to finally come out and your excitement and hype end not with a bang but a whimper due to the game's lackluster quality. With how long it takes for sequels to be developed nowadays with longer dev times and bigger budgets, this pain can sting even more.
With that said, some things come in twos, and that's the theme of this installment of The Most Disappointing Video Game Sequels. From Xbox first-party efforts to retro revivals, SuperPhillip Central has several themed pairs of disappointing sequels this time around. After checking out this edition's selection of six disappointing sequels, which would you personally add to a future installment?"
Crackdown 2 is even more disappointing than 3 though that might be because 2 was a direct sequel to the awesome Crackdown 1.
Other on my list include:
God of War 3
Xenosaga 2
Devil May Cry 2
Tekken 6
Spider-man the Movie 3 (thought not as bad as the film)
Duke Nukem Forever
Saints Row: Gat out of Hell
No More Heroes 2
Crysis 2
Walking Dead Season 2
Def Jam Icon (this one hurts my soul)
Street Fighter 5 launch version
Mortal Kombat 10
