Battlefield 1 and FIFA 17: Frostbite shines on PS4 Pro

DICE's Frostbite engine now powers a great majority of Electronic Arts' internally developed game - a state-of-the-art piece of technology that has strongly delivered cutting-edge experiences on key franchises including Battlefield, FIFA, Need for Speed and the upcoming Mass Effect. With some of the sharpest rendering engineers in the business working on the technology, we expected big improvements bearing in mind Pro's big GPU boost. By and large, we haven't been left down.

Well, see PS4 Pro still doing good. And whoever posted this article, I'm very thankful.

Edit : @Genuine-User About this article : http://n4g.com/news/1982620... Remember the Pro is still launch console, so it will take time for it to improve. Just like the original PS4 Launch. Agree ?

Genuine-User3135d ago (Edited 3135d ago )

You're welcome :p

Quick notes copied from NeoGAF for Battlefield 1, they are present in the video as well:

- Dynamic resolution ranging from 1440p - 1656p
- Increased alpha effects
- Texture details locked at high, upgrade from base PS4
- Terrain quality gets upgrade from base PS4
- Undergrowth quality, shadow quality and AO unchanged from base PS4 version
- Performance improvements on the campaign (MP test in a future video)

Edit: I have spent over 35 hours on BF1 on the base PS4, and I can confirm the multiplayer on PS4 Pro not only looks much better but it performs fantastic as well. Conquest and Operation mode showcases a substantial difference between base and Pro.

NX Gamer uploaded a video about this. Please check him out.

UCForce3135d ago

There will be negative thing on Pro, but there will be also positive thing on Pro.

Genuine-User3135d ago

I saw it last. He seems really happy about the enhanced version.

UCForce3135d ago

I agree. Have you buy the Pro yet ?

Genuine-User3135d ago

I have and it's amazing. What about you?

UCForce3135d ago

I haven't bought it yet. Because I'm from VietNam and the supply on Pro is very limited so I think it's sold out in my local store. It will be restocked in couple weeks.

MatrixxGT3135d ago

Has BF1 been updated for pro yet?

Genuine-User3135d ago (Edited 3135d ago )

Are you joking? Did you read the article or watch the video?

MatrixxGT3135d ago

Well as of yesterday there was no improvements on the game I put in my PS4 pro that I just set up. I checked for updates and it says there are no updates so yes it's a legitimate question.

Yes I actually read articles here not headlines.

THE-JAGON3135d ago

do you not have automatic update turned on if not press options on the game then not check for updates because the game was pro updated before November 10th

TKCMuzzer3135d ago (Edited 3135d ago )

It had been in there since the game launched. I immediately noticed an improvement to the image on my 1080p TV and also the frame rate (The image has jumped from a max of 900p on PS4 to a fixed 1080p on HDTV's). If you don't notice the difference then my assumptions would be 1: You will never be able to tell the difference between resolutions and framerates or 2: Your 1080p TV does not have the best panel therefore it's not easy to tell (this would be common on some cheaper tv's, on my second TV it's a lot harder to notice the difference because of the panel, on my main TV, it's very obvious and has given my TV a new lease of life).

There are also extra special effects to explosions better texture streaming, hold on here is the link https://www.youtube.com/wat...

UCForce3135d ago

NX Gamer did upload about this and it's very informative.

corroios3135d ago

Amazing stuff and thing will become better with time

angelsx3135d ago

So the patch has been hidden in the game or it's included in the last update and Dice didn't comment about it yet.

MasterCornholio3135d ago (Edited 3135d ago )

A developer from Dice said they couldn't talk about it due to an NDA agreement.

@TKC

Well it does make sense due to the marketing deal. But the good thing is the game still received a Pro patch which is the most important thing.

TKCMuzzer3135d ago (Edited 3135d ago )

Which is a farce to be honest. So now we have hardware companies telling devs not to tell gamers of improvements that may be on other consoles. Good call Microsoft, "we are all about the gamers". Seriously, this better not be the future as it will be pointless having these consoles because no one will be talking about the enhancements.
All I can say is MS must be chucking a crap load of money at EA considering how many more these versions of the games sell on the PS4. It's a sad state if I'm honest with you.

dRanzer3135d ago

Why its so hard to developers to improve shadows quality?
When you have high textures but low shadows imo its arms the game overall visual

Pandamobile3135d ago (Edited 3135d ago )

It's not hard at all actually. You can have crisp, perfect shadows by changing a few variables and settings in the engine. Thing is, shadows are complex things to render and filter at high resolutions. Even on the PS4 Pro, concessions still have to be made to hit performance targets.

RegorL3135d ago

Perfect shadows are not crisp! ;)

Pandamobile3135d ago

I meant 'crisp' as in not blocky and pixellated!

DICE Needs To Recapture The Magic Of Battlefield 1 In The Next Game

For DICE to succeed with its next game, it has to return to the roots of the franchise. Atmospheric map design, clear and defined class-based gameplay, attention to detail, and total chaos. Battlefield 1 feels like every rock, every glint on your sniper rifle, every falling brick from a collapsing church, has been painstakingly considered. So much care went into the design of the game, from its soundtrack to its costume department. To stand a chance alongside the behemoths of Treyarch and Infinity Ward, DICE needs to recapture what made their old games so brilliant, otherwise it’s all over.

"DICE Needs To Recapture The Magic Of Battlefield 3 In The Next Game"

/Fixed

...on a serious note, DICE needs to remove the Battlefield name.

isarai943d ago

Eh, bfbc2 was the peak for me, only ad dogfighting and the accommodations that come with it. Every BF after that was such an unsatisfying progression system for weapons and gear for the classes, 90% of the guns feel exactly the same when you unlock them, just felt boring in comparison. Not to mention the gimped destruction as the series progressed

Sciurus_vulgaris943d ago

I found Battlefield 1 to be overrated. The gameplay was simpler and less strategic than its predecessors. Battlefield 1 did have a woo-factor, but the gameplay got repetitive faster than Battlefield 4 in my opinion.

porkChop942d ago

If DICE needs to return to the roots of the franchise then why would they look at Battlefield 1? BF1 is overly simplified and streamlined. What DICE should focus on is Battlefield 3 and Bad Company 2. Those two games were the pinnacle of the franchise.

TheEnigma313942d ago

BC2 was the best. they need to get back to that.

Battlefield 1, Hardline, BF4 Servers Are Being Taken Offline by Cheaters; EA Silent on Issue

Cheaters & hackers have been causing grief on Battlefield 1, Hardline & BF4 servers, with nonstop DDoS attacks among other things. Unfortunately, EA has remained silent about it.

-Foxtrot1173d ago

Course they are silent, they are hoping people flock to 2042

gamesftw2501172d ago

Maybe it was a inside job then haha.

jeromeface1171d ago

wouldnt be the first time, titanfall 1+2 anyone?

PapaBop1172d ago

Not even if they paid me.. EA always do this with old games with less money potential, if this was Ultimate Team, they'd address and sort it faster than stories could spread. Why invest time in their products when they will just dump it in the following years? Then again EA never could see the forest for the trees.

Inverno1172d ago

I imagine after those games were given out for free a couple months back through Amazon, anything that makes people go to 2042 is a plus for them

XiNatsuDragnel1173d ago

They want people to go on 2042. My theory

excaliburps1172d ago

Nah. I think they can't do anything about it or they want to sink money into fixing it.

Pudge1028881172d ago (Edited 1172d ago )

EA owns all BF servers so yes, they can do something about it but they refuse to because they dont want ppl playing their old games instead of the new one. Its EA we’re talking about here

pr33k331172d ago

if this happened in 2042, they'd have something to say. which is weird, considering battlefield 1 has more players on steam right now.

Pudge1028881172d ago

Its so obvious that EA is doing this or hired ppl to mess up the games so that we’d be forced to have just 1 Battlefield working.

FPS_D3TH1172d ago

Honestly it’s probably the devs themselves. They did an update to bf4 way back that kinda made assault rifles doo doo in hopes that people would flock to BF1 cuz BF4 was too perfect

Grabbed Panzer Dragoon, the Darkness, Conker Reloaded, Burnout Revenge, Time Splitters 2, Fight Night Champions, and Stuntman Ignition.

Essentially some of the classics that I can't get on PC, now that I have a Series S.
